Luella was so close to pairing a few of her water types together as she continued her drive through Nue, somehow getting stuck in the middle of The Wilds on her restless journey to Tynntill Town’s fancy new aquarium. It would’ve been amazingly convenient to set up shop next to the aquarium, so that was her plan. Hopefully the aquarium wasn’t just smack in the center of cement, tar, and even more cement. She highly doubted that any Pokemon would’ve felt comfortable getting acquainted in such a situation. But she’d work out the essential details later, because that was later, and right now, she had an email to address. A formal email was received from someone by the name of ‘Venchurro’. Now that was a name she wasn’t likely to forget, but the following details baffled her completely. She was supposed to breed a rare? Didn’t she need some sort of license to pull that off? Then again, did people honestly check for that kind of thing out here? No, probably not. And as much as she hated sulking in a fit of mindless obedience, getting fined over such a trivial issue was simply not worth her defiance.
She promptly emailed some personal contacts associated in the Pokemon League for assistance. Amber Kazuki wasn’t related to her by blood or bond, but Danny saw her as a sister, so by default, Amber was designated to ‘Niece’ status. That was the rule. Plain and simple. ”Niece, you came. Pardon the mess. Pardon everything.” Luella chuckled after eagerly opening the door at the first knock, totally not spending most of her day keeping an eye out for Amber’s arrival by staring out the window with the vigilant stare of a Hoothoot. Sure, Luella was delighted about everything now, but as soon as Luella noticed the massive stack of paperwork that was meant for her tender hands to sign and caress, her mouth stretched in terror at the sheer terror of paper hell.
”Don’t tell me I have to read all of these.” Rescuing Amber’s hands from the merciless weight of paper and ink, Luella dropped them onto one of the backseats and plucked a teal Crayola crayon straight out of the box. Well, she could try to skim the first two pages at least. Momma always warned her about how those big corporate guys liked to trick the masses by using hefty vocabulary and tiny font. She didn’t see any fine print on the first page at least, and the more she flipped through the pages to sloppily sign everything in a speed run, the more her brow furrowed in concentration to get everything over with. ”Last one. So glad I’m not a lawyer. Paperwork’s such a hassle.” She made her final signature as loopy doopy as possible before handing the stack back to Amber. As soon as this got finalized, she could take care of that all-important Lapras breeding.

The title Niece felt weird. Amber wasn't even sure if that was correct. Yes, this was Danny's mother. But her mom was married to his dad. Legally, she supposed she was allowed to call her Niece. But it just felt weird, especially coming from her. She could so see Danny in Luella, but Danny was a little more... down to earth? Not by much, but there was a difference.
"Yeah, don't worry about it. I'm pretty used to messes." Amber said, letting her arms go into a crossed position as she waited for Luella to finish the forms. To be honest, the mess was way worse than what Danny's room used to be. She's pretty sure that her mom cleaned up his room half of the time, if not more. She could barely make her way through sometimes. But he has gotten better with cleaning after himself, Amber could admit that part.
"Yup, you gotta read all of it." Amber said, smirking ever so slightly. "It's all important stuff you need to know. And whatnot." She actually never even read one line of those forms, but it sounded convincing enough. Once Luella was done with the forms and handed them back to Amber, she looked through them quickly and made sure all the I's were dotted and the T's were crossed. Or some saying like that. She pocketed the papers and pulled out the small card. The license has Luella's full name and a picture from the G.E.S. list on it. "Alright, here you go. Enjoy."

It was a little sad to wave Amber off, but Luella couldn’t deny the sheer joy she felt as she examined the laminated license in her hands. It was so fancy. It even had a decent looking picture of her on it and everything. She made extra careful to put it in one of the sturdier pockets in her wallet, where it’d probably never fall out on accident. Probably. News of her upgraded status must’ve went fast, because soon various breeding requests were tumbling towards her before she could even sort through them all. At least most breeding requests were handled by e-mail, which she could get to any time she pleased, but one of them involved dropping off the remaining eggs she had in stock to some guy named ‘Vogt’. Nice last name. Sounded fancy. Maybe he was rich? Did her last name make her sound rich? She doubted it, but at least his request was easy enough to handle. As for the other requests that were sent her way, one of them gave her the possession of some kind of dinosaur-platypus hybrid. Pretty cool looking. She remembered learning about Lapras as a kid in elementary school, but didn’t know much other than the myths behind them.
Pretty cool to be able to breed one of them now. But finding a proper suitor didn’t sound like an easy task at all. ”Kiddo, can you turn that down? I’m trying to draw—I mean, take notes.” How could she be expected to focus at a time like this when a certain Igglybuff decided to blast Cider’s volume as high as it could go just so she could along to that one Mariah Carey Christmas song. Now she didn’t dislike or intend to discourage the Igglybuff’s creative burst, but this had to happen once she figured out her game plan. When the Igglybuff didn’t hear her the first time, which was made clear as she danced and hopped from seat to seat, Luella had little choice but to walk over to the radio herself and snap it off. ”Sorry, babe. Listen to it later. You can jam out to your little heart’s content once I’m done with work, ‘kay?” Breaking the news to Kiddo was like a stab at Luella’s heart, especially when she caught sight of those itty bitty pouty cheeks and those large, bubbly red eyes. Oh, her poor heart ached.
It ached for like five seconds and she ended up distracting the Igglybuff with crayons in order to cut off the imminent temper tantrum. There. That could pacify the Igglybuff for now, at least. It proved to be a good distraction too, because now that she was able to enjoy some extra spending money, she could look forward to treating her youngest members to a play date in Flash City. Kiddo and Serket could stand to live a little, she reasoned as she scribbled a tiny note of it on the side.
It took some time, but she was eventually able to pinpoint a male suitor in the Aquarium’s storage system. Erin Caufield was kind enough to give her access as long as she continued to donate eggs to the aquarium, and Luella wasn’t about to let her down. Plus, if she understood the breeding regulations correctly, the rare tax wasn’t something that stacked. Unless she was wrong, then that was pretty embarrassing. She was gonna try it anyways though, because she was feeling extra lucky today.
By now, her next pit stop was somewhere on the edge of Tynntill Town. She picked it especially for the massive pond that was occupied by a few Lotad. Not a bad sight at all. With an amused whistle, she called out her next pair of water types and admired them as they began to investigate the area. ”…She’s so large compared to him.” It was almost funny watching the Tirtoruga gape and swim shyly to the side whenever the Lapras tried to approach him, but at the same time, it was pretty gross in the same way that a young child was disturbed at dramatic displays of romantic movie gunk. Not that the pair was anything like that right now, but it was the start of something, she felt.

Awyus. His gift basket of not so amazing Pokemon were finally complete. Ace made sure he had some spare time to pick up the egg. Once he entered the farm, he instantly spotted the egg. Making his way over, he took the rather heavy egg and left a note for Luella to find. It only stated that she was free to keep the other egg, hopefully she could find it a good home or even keep it for herself.

The breeding week was almost over, but Luella managed to squeeze in another request before the holiday rush really started to kick in. Regardless of the physical appearance of her establishment, when people were desperate to get those last second gifts in, consumers were willing to skip the quality ranches that already used their weekly breedings up and resort to whoever was left; Luella being one of them. And she was more than fine with that, because now she had the responsibility of her second rare breeding on her hands. She couldn’t fathom why an Eevee was considered ‘rare’ when so many celebrities seemed to have them, but she was willing to get to work in the little time she had.
The request that was sent in came in roughly 5 days ago, but Luella was a procrastinator, and the request was hidden under a swarm of festering post-it notes that continued to spread across her van like the plague. She promptly threw about 30 of them away after realizing how pointless her little self-reminders were. ”Red-Eyes, those make you look like a douche.” Luella didn’t even waste time in shutting down the Watchog’s attempt to appeal to the ladies, scowling at the sight of him holding up a pair of sunglasses that could barely stay on him without a paw on it for support. ”I don’t think I have anything in your size…but you have natural beauty. I think. I don’t know Pokemon standards.” That was all the verbal comfort Red was going to get as Luella kicked him into the open Tynntill fields to fumble and shyly greet the unfamiliar Eevee that was socializing with Luella’s Igglybuff and Absol.

Odd. How positively odd.
It was like taking a batch of cookies right out of the oven, and the second you put them down, there was a swarm of greedy children trying to get their grubby fingers all over them. As soon as the two Eevee eggs were produced and mama Eevee was sent back to her trainer, both Eevee eggs were in high demand. She barely had time to list the adorable pair on her site to get a flurry of requests from potential buyers. It wasn't easy narrowing down which customer to accept, but she sold them to whoever offered the most. Did she know whether they'd be responsible Pokemon Handlers? Nope. But Mama was getting an RV on Christmas at this rate! No more cramped up spaces. She could get a stove! She could have a porta potty! Luella could have so many things in addition to the glory known as Cider, and life would never feel so good. But the holidays meant buying things for other people. Giving. Gifting. Her wallet was going to cry, but that wasn't going to stop her from giving handmade gifts to her loved ones. And boy, did she have a ton of loved ones.
Her phone started to beep as siblings started to send IMs about their next get-together for the holidays. Most were in Hoenn, but Luella wasn't the only Mynn to scratch that traveling itch. She honestly didn't want to go, but she barely saw these people anyways, and if she didn't go, they'd surely harass her phone in one way or another. "I don't wanna gooooooo..." She groaned, plopping herself in Cider's backseat while her various Pokemon ran in and out of the van, all bored and looking for some sort of entertainment in the fields of Tynntill. They weren't too far from the edge of the town, and while Luella warned them about exploring Tynntill unsupervised, she didn't do too much to enforce that rule. When it came down to stopping nonsense, Luella's Watchog and Absol were the ones maintaining order in an otherwise chaotic business, and they did a damn good job of it too.
<I know this place is...odd, but it's not the worst.> Vice Dragon shook her silky white locks as she turned to the massive Walrein beside her, who scrunched her face up in discomfort until she slid herself into the relief of an icy pond. It could've been colder, but for now, the Walrein was content with where she was. <Just relax. Try not to let the other Pokemon bother you. Or at least Red will make sure of it.> The Absol gestured towards the nearby Watchog, who stood next to Cider's exhaust pipe for any puff of warmth he could get just so he wouldn't freeze his tiny toes off during guard duty. It was unfortunate, but Vice found herself with another suitor. She kind of hated this gig, but getting pampered every now and then wasn't so bad either. Flashing the Walrein a sympathetic smile, she excused herself so Snowball could get herself acquainted with a shrewd Darumaka who was timidly hopping around the edge of the pond, curious about the ice that floated across the water, but cautious so he didn't accidentally slip in.
As for herself, Vice met up with a rugged Seel that stuck his tongue out at whoever walked by, much to the annoyance of the younger Pokemon that wanted to play with him. He looked well-trained, sure, but Vice wasn't immediately attracted to that lack of maturity. Still, she had to play nice and attempt to know her suitors a little better, so she trotted up to him with a pleasant smile. Maybe he wouldn't be so bad once she got to know him. Maybe. Possibly. Who knows anymore.

It was nice travelling back to the Nue region after the holidays; family bonds were strengthened through lively chatter, Luella’s old odd jobs back in Hoenn were officially wrapped up with a fine paycheck, and Luella finally got that precious Christmas gift to herself, which was currently hooked behind Cider like a group of Phanpys linked from tail to trunk. “Mini Cider and Mama Cider. Perfect.” Even days after purchasing the pop-up trailer that included many basic necessities, mainly the godly toilet, Luella still had that tingly sensation in her chest for treating herself to the finer things in life. Mini Cider was a much needed addition to the group that granted Luella’s Pokemon the privacy they needed in the warmth and comfort of the heated indoors, which regular Cider simply couldn’t do by itself. Not with Pokemon running in and out, out and in, and then in and out yet again for a majority of the day. Luella easily worked around the van’s changing temperatures by wrapping herself in several blankets, resembling a Swadloon as she messed around with her chunky, beat up computer to transport a few Pokemon around for her latest breeding attempts.
The first breeding she wanted to work on was met with hostility and immediate rejection when she initially brought it up, but she needed a male Spinda, and having Red pass on Baton Pass would’ve been awfully beneficial to her business. Any egg moves would’ve been good honestly, but after seeing Red use Baton Pass so many times in battle, she deemed the move especially useful and decided to keep up the chain. Baby Dragon and Red-Eyes Black Dragon weren’t having any of it though, and constantly turned their heads away to ignore her whenever she brought it up. It was a two against one battle, but Luella was determined to make this work, and proceeded the hound the two for days and nights. To the Spinda and Watchog, it felt like living in a nightmare, where one second you felt perfectly safe and comfortable talking to your buddies, and the next second you were pounced upon by Luella’s sleep-deprived expression, wielding several blankets in her arms as if she was some kind of unrefined vampire that desperately needed to bathe and groom herself.
Luella’s persistence eventually paid off, and the two ‘lovebirds’ managed to lock themselves into Mini Cider in an attempt to keep Luella at bay. It was like fighting off a zombie invasion for the potential couple, but in Luella’s mind, turning herself into the universal enemy made it all the more easier for the pair to get closer together. And they were locked inside a cozy trailer. All alone. All by themselves. It felt like a plan that was guaranteed to work, but just in case it didn’t, she kept a few romantic shrooms around to ensure that she got her Spinda babies in the end.
Once the first pairing was somewhat settled in, Luella could finally move onto the second pair, and thankfully the two were more accepting about the situation. Not that Luella was forcing her Pokemon to get comfortable with one another for her own sake. Oh no. No no no. She gave them the option to like each other and stuff. Totally. “…I might be a bad person.” Luella muttered as she went to check on her Corsola, who was currently being entertained by the wild stories one of one Danny’s Relicanth. At least these two seemed comfortable with talking to one another and didn’t need much encouragement to stick together. It worked because they were owned by different trainers and had the space they needed. Her Spinda and Watchog? They had to deal with each other and the other Pokemon that knew them. Probably not the best situation for them.
She owed them an apology for sure. But that apology was due after she got her eggs.

It wasn’t common for Luella to skip out on her duties as a Pokemon Breeder, but an unfamiliar situation grasped each of Luella’s shoulders and shoved her into the nearest wall, cornering her with the hope sucking realization that a death sentence was being signed in permanent ink right this second. It was awful. Her throat ached in exhaustion from gasping so much as she ran from job to job, loosely working as a cashier by day and a waitress at a local bar in Tynntill by night just so she could hold off the grim reaper’s overbearing shadow. It took some time to scavenge enough money to make it happen, but by some miracle and a couple of kind bosses, she did it.
Cider could stop looking at her with those dead looking headlights and she could whistle for some tow trucks to carry her baby away to safety, patching the old lady up until her van was back in action. It was one of the worst ways to start out the new year, Luella declared to herself as she stood in front of the reborn Cider in all of her rusted glory, giving the van a couple of approving pats on its metallic hips until she hopped inside and drove straight to the aquarium. There were breedings to be done, and extra pocket change to be earned.
Because Tynntill was awfully cold around this time of year for the Pokemon Luella intended to breed, Luella had to improvise a little for how she intended to divide her two potential couples. Now that she had a male Spinda in her possession, she had no trouble getting the wobbly firecracker acquainted with her newly caught Illumise. A bug and a panda were an odd pair to say the least, but apparently they were both in the ‘human-like’ egg group. If anyone cared to ask for her opinion, there didn’t seem to be anything human-like about either of them. She called bullshit on the experts. But whatever. If it works, it works. Deciding to spare Red-Eyes and Baby Dragon from babysitting their teenage kid in such an awkward situation, Luella assigned her Jigglypuff, Kiddo, to check in on the two every now and then while she focused on reserving one of the Aquarium’s smaller tanks for a breeding of her own. Sure, Tynntill had Lake Luna nearby if she really needed some place to breed her water Pokemon, but that plan was long dried up at the sight of a thick layer of ice that coated the damn thing whole.
Additional measures were taken to get her male Corsola and female Clamperl situated in one of the tanks in the back room, but it worked out just fine.
