"Flamethrower, Fawkes!"
That was the sound of Josh Dragomir, not exactly happy after just coming out of the city at a run. He'd been on his way out of the city anyway to train Fawkes, who was already out with him, but a flock of Pidove had flown by him and one of them had happened to nab his scarf in it's beak! Josh had given chase, with Fawkes right behind him.
The Charmeleon would let out a "Char!" before unleashing a torrent of flames. The Pidove would dodge it, it's flight being a bit too speedy to be caught like that. Josh gritted his teeth and watched as the Pidove would suddenly send a torrent of feathers back at them as it flew! "Look out, Fawkes! That's Feather Dance!" he called as the Charmeleon would quickly shift to the left to avoid them. Another torrent of Feather Dance would fly back at them, as the Pidove continued to fly as if nothing was happening.
"Right!" Josh called, and on cue Fawkes would slide to the right to avoid it. "Here comes two more!" Josh called out as the Pidove would shoot out two more Feather Dance attacks. "Wait for it... Wait for it!" he commanded, and Fawkes would keep running along with his Trainer, waiting for the right moment...
Just before it could hit, Josh would quickly call out.
"Left!"
Fawkes slid to the left.
"Right!"
Fawkes slid to the right.
"Now use Dragon Rage!" he called as Fawkes stored the energy for a moment, before unleashing the giant burning X that Josh knew so well. Direct hit, it would hit the Pidove and cause it to start careening toward a tree.
Bam.
It would crash and fall to the ground, dropping the scarf. "Alright, Fawkes! You did it!" Josh congratulated with a grin as he picked his scarf up and wrapped it back around. "Gah, would have hated to lose this" he admitted, breathing. He had to admit, he was very impressed with Fawkes lately. The Charmeleon had taken a shaky start, and wasn't very good at following orders before, but Fawkes had become one of Josh's star battlers lately, and his performance had been excellent.
But they had forgotten the Pidove, who would suddenly fly into the air once it had recovered, before u-turning and going straight for Fawkes.
"Look out, Fawkes! Sky Attack!" Josh called too late as Fawkes would get sent flying back, hit by the Sky Attack hard. The Charmeleon would quickly get up now, the temper starting to flare as he watched as the Pidove flew around. It was a tiny bird but it had a lot of spunk! Josh considered catching it after seeing it take a hit like it had and keep fighting... But he had to weaken it first!
"Fawkes, use Flamethrower!" Josh called. "Char!" he would respond as he sent out a jet of flames to try and clip this thing's wings before it could get going!
The Pidove's tail would suddenly glow though, and before Josh knew it, it would jet past the Flamethrower with crazy speed! "Damnit, that thing knows Tailwind!" Josh called, gritting his teeth. "Fawkes, clip it's speed with Scary Face!" he called. "Char Char!" Fawkes would respond as he would begin storing energy to call that giant purple face to slow it down though. Before he could finish, though, the Pidove would suddenly fly down, it's wings glowing as they slammed into Fawkes, knocking him back with Air Slash.
"Gah..." Josh muttered, shaking his head. How was this little Pidove so powerful? Wait a moment... He remembered seeing the shape of it's wings before.... It was a male Pidove, and some of them had the Rivalry ability! That's it! That increased the power of it's attacks, and Tailwind made it's speed temporarily double! Fawkes was in big trouble then...
Alright, new plan. "Fawkes, I need you to relax!" Josh called. "Char?" Fawkes responded, eying him. Relax? Him? He was just getting angry though! He wanted to crush this thing for humiliating him as it did! But... If he insisted.
Fawkes nodded and closed his eyes. "Wait for my signal..." Josh instructed calmly. He watched as the Pidove would fly down toward Fawkes again... It was going for a second Air Slash!
"Wait for it.... Wait for it..." he said calmly. "Now dodge!" he commanded as the Pidove was inches from Fawkes. Fawkes would slide to the left, causing the Air Slash to miss entirely. The speedy Pidove would u-turn and go for another Air Slash, just as Josh predicted. "Right!" Josh called. Fawkes would slide right and away from the wings again. "Left!" he called again, and Fawkes would just barely inch himself as the Pidove tried again. "Duck!" he called, and he did, causing the Air Slashing Pidove's attempted attack from behind to miss. "Just a little longer now!" he promised.
And like that, the Pidove would suddenly slow down. Tailwind had worn off!
"Good, Fawkes!" he said. "It's slowed down now! Flamethrower!" he commanded. "Char!" Fawkes would let out as the jet of flames would emerge from his gaping maw and engulf the Pidove, who would be hit dead on and start to fall again. "Fire Fang!" he called and Fawkes's fangs would emit that flaming aura again before he leaped into the air and slammed the Pidove down to the ground with them. "Pokeball, go!" Josh called as he tossed the Pokeball that would collide with the Pidove, sucking it in...
"Cmon... Cmon..." he mused as Fawkes landed, and they watched carefully... It had to work now...

pesky bird

The next news for swarming ‘mons didn’t have Kouji travelling too far away—in fact it was right there in his home region! Plus the ‘mons that were swarming were also Pidove; something hand he could use as messenger birds whenever he needed to send off a letter while he was on the go. Of course, training the Pidove to actually listen to his voice was going to take a while, so he decided to go and have a quick stopover in Striaton before heading back to Castelia in order to catch the ferry back to Kalos; he’d come home to arrange a few breeding requests before setting out again. I can’t breed when I’m not there. That’s crazy indeed, he thought to himself; he was now thankful that he had gotten the messages just as he’d gotten back to Unova. Now that those arrangements were settled, he then found himself on the way to Striaton; and for the first time he was using Palm; who was only more than happy to oblige flying through the sky with him astride!
That and he also gives me free fruit. Yummy, he thought as he finished munching on the fruit as they made a two-point landing in Striaton City—and upon landing right outside the Pokemon Center, both master and ‘mon looked up to the sky in time to see a huge shadow flying overhead—the shadow was actually consisting of a literal swarm of Pidove, and they were flapping their wings, dropping feathers everywhere—some even landed in his hair! “Oh, shoot, really?” he muttered to himself, quickly returning Palm to his Pokeball and then hastily heading into the Center he’d landed just outside of, swapping out Palm for someone who could actually aim and take out the birds without popping a sweat. And of course I know just which move to use… although I really should switch out the other attacks so that it makes more sense… he thought as he plucked a certain containment unit and then sent out Rymista, his Gallade, who then looked around in confusion—he normally only appeared when it was time to fight!
“Look up, Rymi. That’s our target for today. Look at those little carrier pigeons in the sky. I know you can’t jump high, but…” he trailed off; suddenly noticing that one of them had decided to dive-bomb him! “Ah, crap, he’s on the offensive! Dodge out of that incoming attack, then go on the defensive with your Thunder Punch!” he shouted, diving out of the way as the Gallade then rushed forward; seemingly making multiple copies of itself in order to be able to avoid the incoming Sky Attack from the small but terrible Pidove! Instead of hitting the actual Gallade, the Pidove ended up hitting an after-image; and then let out a chirp of shock—before turning around just in time to see an electrified lib slamming into it head-on! “Alright, follow that up with another one, and then use Charm!” he continued, and the Gallade quickly complied, sending up its other limb which was now crackling with electricity; catching the retreating Pidove before he… “leered” at the bird in such a weird-looking way, he could only smack a palm to his face out of frustration!
Note to self, update Rymi’s movelist, because Charm on a Gallade is tres terrifying, he thought to himself as the little carrier pigeon then righted its course and then quickly released a mass of feathery down! “Dodge!” he shouted, and the Gallade quickly jumped backwards, watching as the Feather Dance attack flitted towards the Blade ‘mon! the down then landed right on the spot where the Gallade stood just moments earlier; before he knew he had to end it quick—“Alright, I know this is not going to go too well, but go ahead and try to exert your Psychic power!” while plucking an empty PokeBall from his pocket; and watched as the Pidove, which was now regally pissed, quickly chained into a Quick Attack, attempting to head off the Blade ‘mon who then stood back, and tried to conjure up all the remaining psychic power he still possessed and then slashing one of his limbs—and releasing a burst of Psychic energy!
The Pidove, which was so busy trying to physically hit the Gallade, then suddenly crashed into the Psychic attack, before sailing down to the pavement, disoriented and definitely dizzy. He then chucked the PokeBall he’d been tossing with his free hand earlier at the fallen carrier bird, hoping that it would stay inside…
It was a rather average day for Doug and his Pichu Oron as they continued with the long journey of traveling throughout the regions and battling Pokemon, trainers, and making friends or rivals. Though what Doug wasn't expecting was a flock of Pidove to fly around from above, one of them coming down and picking at Doug and Oron, much to Doug's chagrin and annoyance. "Ngh... Alright, Oron! It seems this little guy wants to pick a fight. Get ready." Doug said towards his faithful Pichu, who nodded.
The Pidove began to fly away, but Doug wasn't going to let it get away so easily as he needed to gain some more Pokemon and how it was the one starting this little exchange. "Oron! Thunder Shock!" Doug commanded toward Oron, whose cheeks began to emit sparks as he was surrounded by an electrical aura, a bolt shooting out towards the Pidove. The Pidove easily bypassed the bolt with its elegant flight patterns. It turned around and began to fly back towards them. "Brace yourself, Oron, it's coming in for an attack!" Doug shouted out. The Pidove began flapping its wings more violently as a whirlwind began to quickly shoot out towards Oron. Oron tried to get out of the way, but it quickly caught up with him and began to deal razor slashes of damage on him and sent him skidding back. "Chuu!" Oron squeaked in pain. "Damn, Razor Wind..." Doug muttered.
He looked up at the Pidove and back at Oron. "Oron, jump up and try to hit it with Tail Whip! It'll weaken its defenses and give you an opening!" Doug shouted out towards Oron. Oron squatted down and hopped up into the air, he then did a flip and lightly, but nimbly hit his tail against the Pidove's face, who squirmed away a little as Oron landed quickly on the ground. "Now, Nasty Plot." Doug said towards Oron, who nodded and looked at the Pidove with an increasingly devious and nasty expression, the move amplifying the power of the next attack he planned on using. The Pidove looked down at them and then its beak began to glow as it dashed toward Oron quickly. Oron looked up. "Chu?" Oron questioned as the Pidove's beak then smacked into Oron, who was sent to the ground briefly. "Quick Attack too? This little bird is full of surprises." Doug thought to himself. As the Pidove recoiled back a little, a glimmer emerged into Doug's eyes. "Oron! Thunder Shock, now!" Doug commanded. Oron got back to his feet as his cheeks sparked and then he was surrounded by an electrical aura as a quick bolt of lightning shot out towards the Pidove. The Pidove was stricken by the bolt, which was amplified by the use of Nasty Plot, as it chirped out loudly and was sent reeling down a little. "Nice one, Oron!" Doug said, smiling.
The Pidove, undeterred from the bolt attack, flew back up a little more slowly into the air and then its wings beginning to glow. The Pidove then waved his wings forward and back repeatedly and it shot out multiple disc-like energy blades toward Oron. "Run to the side, Oron!" Doug said towards Oron. Oron began running to the side as the discs smacked against the ground repeatedly, shooting up smoke and dirt into the air. Doug shielded his eyes a little and Oron looked around to try and get a sense of his surroundings. As the smoke cleared up, the Pidove was in the air and his beak was glowing, a harsh light aura beginning to emit from him. "Oh no... Brace yourself, Oron! He's charging up a Sky Attack!" Doug shouted out toward Oron as a warning. Oron braced himself as the Pidove then began to fly towards Oron at a very high speed, the aura around it beginning to emit a flame-like effect. Oron quickly managed to jump to the side as the Pidove's beak smacked into the ground, getting jammed in there and shooting up a little more dust into the air.
Oron looked directly at the Pidove. "Now's your chance, Oron! Thunder Wave! Then finish it off with Thunder Shock" Doug shouted out the command as the timing for this strike was strict. The Pidove tried to get its beak out from the ground, but Oron charged up his electrical cheeks and then shot out an electrical shockwave towards the Pidove, which sent the electricity throughout it and paralyzing it in place. Oron's cheeks then emitted more electricity as he then charged up and shot out a powerful electrical bolt towards the Pidove, hitting it dead on and shocking it intensely. Doug then pulled out an empty Pokeball and tossed it out towards the Pidove. The Pokeball hit the Pidove and then opened up, sucking it inside. The ball would then close and land, beginning to wobble a little as the results of the catch would soon be revealed...
"Come on..." Doug muttered to himself, wiping some sweat from his forehead. Oron was breathing heavily as the battle left him a little fatigued.

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
"*So Yumi is seriously letting us do this alone?*"
Walking through a forest near castelia city, a totodile was trying his best convince a clearly worried mudkip that they were okay to be travelling without their trainer. The mudkip was a strong fighter, with a great array of defensive moves despite being so undertrained, but even then, taking a small stroll without Yumi and her belt of stronger pokemon to back them up? To him that was walking on the edge of an active volcano.
"*Well...Yumi never said anything, but Target and Grim seemed to do it last week and they turned out okay!~*"
"*WHAT!?*"
Rodger stopped dead in his tracks and the totodile soon after, blinking a little at the mudkip's sudden outburst. Connor was much more confident when it came to going out on his own...in fact maybe confident wasn't the word. Maybe it was "dumb." He had once been found by Yumi with his head burried in the sand by a mean bunch of Krabby, and all he could say afterwards is that he had one hell of a time and couldn't wait to get back to the beach again, much to the teams mild confusion, as to this day they could swear he was getting sand out his ears.
"*Yumi isn't letting us do this? Oh god I thought this would be bad enough without her backing us up but we're not even supposed to be here! We could get in trouble! Big big big trouble.*" The mudkip was pacing back and forth rapidly before suddenly caming to a halt and tugging on his cheek spikes, gasping loudly. "*She could ban me from beating mars bars!*"
"*Oh come ooooon.*" Connor stood beside the mudkip, patting his back reassuringly and pulling him in close, pointing out into the forest as if he was showing his friend the promised land they had been searching for. "*My friend you need to get out there, show yourself that you really can survive without Ko-ken or that stupid wartortle-*" "*He's a blastoise now.*" "*Blastoise backing you up! You can do this, now say it with me pal.*" Connor turned to grip Rodger by his shoulders, shaking him back and forth. "*Say it Rodger! You can do this!*" "*B-but I-*" "*YOU CAN DO THIS*" "*I-I can do this?*" "You can do thiiiiissss!~*" "*I-I can do this! I can do this!*"
"*Can ya do it?*"
Connor and Rodger immediately froze, looking into eachothers eyes as they suddenly heard a third voice, their eyes slowly going to the trees above as they spotted dozens of pidove surrounding them in the branches above, a look of terror slowly creeping onto the face of the already horrified Mudkip, and a look of absolute joy being brought to the face of the totodile as his eyes locked on a rather large Pidove that clearly seemed to be the leader of this small flock.
"*Look whats we got 'ere boys!~ Some tough wittle water types who think there all that? Yous think we should teach thems a lesson?*" The pidove all nodded quickly, and releasing the mudkip, Connor stepped forward, puffing his chest out much like the Pidove above him was doing, giving a huge grin as he prepared for whatever was about to happen. "* I think we can take whatever less you dish out! We were bred for battles! Isn't that right Rodger?*" Connor turned to display his friend, who was no longer standing behind him. His eyes slowly returned to back to the pidove surrounding him, toying with his fingers and giving a nervous smile. "*Er...let me just fetch him for you...*"
Using a sudden dragon dance to increase his speed, the totodile broke off into a run, leaving a pidove to order his men to "Go get 'em" before they flew of through the trees giving chase. With his speed boost aiding his legs, Connor was quick to catch up with a fleeing rodger, running at top speed along side him, breathing rapidly as the pidove began to gain on them as he slowed down to match Rodger's speed.
"*What are you doing!? With your surf and mirror coat, and my slash and hydro pump, we can take these guys!*"
"*Are you kidding me!?*" The Mudkip ran as best he could, clearly getting out of breath at this point. "* We can't take them on! There are dozens of them!*" "*But they weren't bred for battle! We were!*" "*Yumi just says that to make us little guys feel better!*" "*No she dosn't, she...AGH FORGET IT!*"
Connor screeched to a halt and rodger stopped a few feet ahead. As the totodile stood strong and smiled in the face of his attackers, her knew he had to show the mudkip what they could do, and he refused to go down without a fight. Once the pidove came into sight through the trees, he charged in, slashing left and right after buffing with another dragon dance. His claws struck through the feathers and accross the skin of almost every pidove that came within two feet. Rodger watched in horror, waiting for the moment were the birds of death turned on him. Sadly it came all too quickly. The moment the pidove realized they were going down, their boss called for them to take to the skies, circling the totodile and almost entirely ignoring his mudkip pall. Their wings flapped furiously as they fired out air slash after air slash on the totodile. Connor growled as the attacks struck him, but he still smiled, jumping and running up a tree trunk to try and strike against the nearest pidove, but ever time he tried, another air slash would strike him down.
Rodger watched as Connor just tried to max out his dragon dances and take down the pidove to no avail. no matter how fast he got, the pidove always had enough time to strike him down. Suddenly, a fire lit in his eye, and while the attention was off him and on his friend, something he would never forgive himself for despite his cowardice, he ran up a nearby tree himself, leaping to a brance above all the pidove and shouting out to grab their attention.
"*Hey! Up here you big dummies!*"
As all the Pidove turned their attention on him, he leaped over their heads, an orb of water forming before his maw, and suddenly bursting out into surfe. From above it was like getting his by the heaviest waterfall that had ever existed. With their feathers soaked, and their heads hurting from the sudden crashing waves on their heads, the Pidove fell to the ground, groaning and aching as their boss tried his best to rise to his feet, rodger landing beside connor/
"*You trainer pokemon...think your so tough...walking in here...think you own the joint...heh...*" Not missing a beat, the last standing pidove suddenly let out an air slash towards the totodile with a swipe of his wing. "*YOU AIN'T ALL THAT!*"
Knowing full well his partner was on the brink, Rodger darted infront of the attack, growling as the move struck him hard and glaring out at the pidove, an aura surrounding him as the air slash brought the power from inside him. "We ARE all that!*" Unleashing in the form of spiralling beams of energy, the mirror shot attack was unleashed, hurtling towards the pidove. The look it gave in its last moment could only be described as "Oh shit", the energy blasting it into the nearest tree, and allowing the mudkip and totodile a moment of silence as they stared at eachother.
And then without knowing why, they burst out laughing.
About an hour later Yumi would finally find the two, a worried look on her face and Ko-ken by her side. Her face would slowly turn to one of confusion as she spotted the pokemon lying around them in a pile. "You er...did you guys-?" Before she could finish both pokemon, yes, Rodger too, gave quick, hasty nods, proud of their work. Having been planning to come check out the sudden pidove swarm herself, Yumi brought out some spare pokeballs. "Okay, how about my brave little fighters pick out some pidove for me to catch?"
Their paws instantly turned to the boss of the pidoves.
