n the other side of town, big chunks of ice float around the arctic sea, turning Glacier Trail into one of the most dangerous yet concurred parts of Polar Point. While paradoxical at first glance, this apparent contradiction can be explained by the nature and cause of these cracks. Fishermen come to Glacier Trail every morning for both meat, grease, and that state of inner peace—the so-called grounding that many spiritual practices boast about—that they can reach by returning to the very roots of self-sustainability.
As part of the spring festivities in Polar Point, the villagers welcome all visitors to join them in one of their main economic activities. To spice it up, they've also offered to whomever catches the biggest, heaviest specimen an entire week of free lodging, as well as a special seat in the grand feast to take place that same night with the fish and meat caught during the day.
Fishing rods and nets full of diveballs have been readied beforehand, and some of the most experienced fishermen in town have each taken a spot all around Glacier Trail, waiting to aid participants in whatever they may need to ensure a fun, enjoyable experience. Who knows? Perhaps one of the younglings that were beginning to arrive would become the new master fisher of their age with the appropiate guidance.
THE CHALLENGE Write a post in which your character attempts to fish. If they're not experienced or don't know how fishing works, feel free to interact with any of the NPC fishermen stationed every three to five metres from each other for help. Characters are limited to 1-2 posts in this thread. One for their initial attempt to fish, and an optional second to react to their catch, which will be RNG'd for them by Nerea Barron or Olivia Mahgaden. If you're looking for further interactions with other characters in this setting or to experiment with fishing, feel free to create an additional thread for you and your partners in crime.
Don't be afraid to let your Pokémon help out at the moment of reeling, in case what you've caught happens to be way heavier than you can pull, but not before. Remember this is a fishing competition, not an underwater hunting one.
Any other questions should be redirected to Quixotic by cbox, PM, or Skype.
[googlefont="Montserrat"]PARTICIPATION PRIZE Contestants will get to keep the Old Rod they were issued to participate, as well as a Diveball for future capture purposes. If a character already owns an Old Rod before this contest, they will be given 2 Diveballs instead.
*Thread will be updated to edit in the links to each event as they are posted up.

It had taken three or four tries for him to get the fishing rod out of the box. To be completely fair he hadn't even been the one to grab it, one of the assistants unwillingly handed it over after untangling the mess that Henri had managed to make out of the box of rods just from trying to grab the one he was renting. It was a mess and the people in line behind him were frustrated with the wait. But it wasn't his fault, the lines were just loose or something and that made them harder to grab. At least that's what he was telling himself. Carrying it was kind of awkward since he was also making sure he had his bag secure and that he wasn't going to accidentally drop if off of the edge of the pier.
If that happened he'd be screwed and have to go swimming in the cold water. He couldn't afford to buy all new gear especially when he'd wasted so much money buying some fail safe items after his first breeding attempt had actually failed. It wasn't their fault that they had failed. Riya had just been a little too eager to pick a fight and Almond wasn't really sure what was going on. But they'd gotten it all sorted out and now there were two eggs in the incubator just waiting for someone to come along and buy them. He really hoped that someone would buy them. Suddenly though a hand on the back of his shirt tugging him back stopped him from walking any further. "Stupid kid! You almost walked right off the edge!"
Blinking in surprise Henri found that it was true. He'd very nearly just walked straight off the edge of the pier. Lucky for him this big guy was here to stop him. With a slightly sheepish grin he let out a laugh and nodded. "Yeah, that would have sucked wouldn't it? Would have walked right off the edge and probably drowned if you hadn't stopped me. Thanks a bunch!" With a scowl and a frown the fisherman shook his head and let out a slightly disgusted grunt. He'd seen beginners before but this kid was just ridiculous. Deciding that this was a good a place as any he started to mess with the rod some in order to get it ready to cast.
He'd never actually been fishing before but he'd seen it on tv. All they did was throw their arms back and then the line flew into the water right? Pulling his arm back and then throwing it forward he was disappointed when the line didn't actually go anywhere. It was still the same length and didn't even reach the water. Maybe his rod was broken? It would make sense. It did come from a giant box full of tangled up rods. Never mind the fact that he was the one that had ended up tangling it to begin with. With a determined look he tried the motion again, expecting the line to go sailing successfully this time and staring blankly whenever it didn't.
"You have to press the button down kid, otherwise you're just going to end up throwing your rod in the water." It was another bout of wisdom from the fisherman who was standing there, ready to help people who obviously had no idea what they were doing. Henri however wasn't really sure how he'd missed the giant button on the side of the reel but he pushed it down and watched with glee as the line dropped onto the planks of wood he was standing on. "It worked!" Reeling it in quickly he was excited to see that he would finally be able to get the bait into the water. Finally he was ready to try and get it into the water again.
For the third time he repeated the motion that was supposed to send the line flying. With a slight plop sound he heard it hit and watched the bobber eagerly. Now he needed to wait for one of the water Pokemon to take the bait and he would be all set... Once the red and white bulb went under the water he'd need to reel it in, right? Soon though his attention was diverted to the fact that someone else had gotten something on their line. He watched them pull it in, only to forget that his own line was in the water and the bobber was beginning to move. "Kid! You need to pay attention!"
Snapped back to reality he looked back to his own and saw that it was completely underwater and that there was a tugging on the line. "Oh oh I got one! I got one!" Bouncing in place a little he remembered that he needed to actually do something to pull it in. Quickly he began to reel it in, wondering what exactly was on the other side of that line.
@idk - 830 - why did someone let him do this - surprisingly high

at most I'm sleeping all these demons away
One of Novel's favorite things to do on his day off was spend it at the pier. It was relaxing to stare down into the water as he had for years in Shui, and Sal enjoyed taking a dip in the cool waters. He had come all the way out here just to spend a nice day to himself, which is why it had surprised him to realize the Fishing Contest was going on. It was a yearly event, but honestly he had forgotten it. Chance must have smiled down on him, though, be soon he was handing in his entry slip and picking out a weathered fishing rod from the collection of them nearby. The old men buzzing around the pier might not be as impressed by the Gym Leader as some others might, but it was important to him to at least attend these things. If he got a nifty prize from it just for entering, who was he to complain?
No mistake should be made that Novel was very good at fishing. He had attended this event in years past but never competed, finding it to be too crowded for his likes. This year, other than the usual fisherman and one fellow he could see in the distance, it looked almost deserted. It was a little sad. Finding a spot and sitting down, he crossed his legs under him and tried to recall the last time he had done this. It had been when he was seven, before he left for Shui. He was sitting by a little pond with his grandfather, who had found some thick sticks and tied strings to the end of them. He can't remember catching anything that day, but a Goldeen had wandered up and nibbled on his toes at one point. He couldn't remember much past that.
It was struggle to bait his line. The squirming worm made his wrinkle his nose as he gutted the poor thing on the hook. Noel was no stranger to worms or dirt or similar, but that didn't make it pleasant. "Little too much for ya', Leader?" A burly man not far away, watching Novel with mirth, grinned and tossed his line again. Simply shaking his head, Novel chose to not answer him. He lacked fans in the strangest of places. After a few more minutes, he managed to toss the line out with the bait intact. The length away wasn't satisfying, so he ended up wasting time reeling it back in and tossing it multiple times before he was satisfied.
Then came waiting, followed by a string of disappointment. I remember why I hate this. Novel thought, irritated. It takes too long. He felt like he had been sitting there for ages before he felt a tug. His butt was numb, and when he sat up and started to excitedly reel in his line, his back popped loudly in protest from having sat for so long.
"Ugh." When Novel found the worm gone but no fish on the line, you could say he was upset. He repeated the process, baiting the hook and tossing it and waiting.... four more times. Whatever was down there was getting a good meal, stealing all his bait like it had been doing. "Sixth times a charm..." Muttering to himself, he stood up before he tossed the line out this time. Almost immediately he felt a tug. He pulled and tugged, dragging whatever was on the other side of the line in.
