Most of the time Zernebog thought of himself as a perfectly sane individual, but sometimes he couldn’t help but wonder if that was really true considering some of the crazier stunts that he had done over the years.
Right now he was thinking the same thing again as he walked down these boggy woods riddled with yellowing leaves, rotting trunks on the wet swampy –and sometimes flooded- ground in order to participate in this Sudowoodo Haunted Wood Walk thing that Laverre had going on for October. Most people wouldn’t have second thoughts about attending a seemingly-innocent event like this but after last year’s mess with the labyrinth he was much more wary about these sorts of things. That was why he had two of his more dependable pokemon with him this time instead of having some of his newer ones accompany him. He couldn’t risk something worse happening this year, after all. He rather liked living.
That was partly why he was leaning against one of the trees at the starting point, waiting for others to appear so that he could go with them. As much as it stung his pride, he knew that there was safety in numbers. Since he was restricted to only two pokemon at most, he really needed some back-up.
Now, all he needed to see was who was going to come by….

What was she thinking, going around Laverre? Well, technically October had already started, and there was a Halloween event going on—there was something like a maze involved; but other than that the ad that she was holding in her hands didn’t say too much. Asides from bring two Pokemon… well; definitely I’m going with my best. Two of my best… she thought, quickly dropping by the Laverre Pokémon Center and swapping out most of whom she was carrying, and then held only two—one was her most trusted (and longest) companion ever since her journey began, Momiji—also known as Momo her Gardevoir, the other one was Arashi, her Typhlosion who was just itching to get out and about again after being on “vacation mode” for so long. Now that she was “armed and ready”, she then went on over to the entrance of where the maze-like structure would be, which was amusingly called the “Sudowoodo Haunted Wood Walk”; and it was apparently the city’s first big attempt to get in on the Halloween festivities.
What Izumi was not expecting, however, was the fact that there was a disturbingly familiar face already waiting by the designated starting point. Normally, she’d have called on Josh and taken the challenge with him, but since it seemed that he was busy (most likely prepping up with Maxine and Doug) she just decided to try the entire area by herself… until seeing the stark poker face that was apparently waiting for someone to appear. “Oh, Ze—I mean, shisho,” she defaulted, quickly going into a bowing pose at the sight of her white-haired, amber-eyed, extremely dead-pan poker-faced master. “Surprise seeing you here,” she continued after recovering from the bow. True, she’d come here little armed with just two Pokémon, but who knew what lay in wait on the other side of the starting point… before taking up a waiting pose on the other side of the entrance. It really did look like he was waiting for something to happen—or someone else to come; who knew what it was?
The crazy things I get into. Oh well, let’s get this show on the road… she thought, watching and waiting—was she hearing things wafting to her from the depths of the maze; as she peered into the blackness on the other side of the starting point? Who knows…

WORDS 395 TAGSShisho and Ms. Jace NOTESHorror on the road
Post by Ricki Jace on Oct 10, 2014 14:15:54 GMT -5
Sanity was a fickle thing. Sometimes you think your ideas are great and make perfect sense, but then when you go through with them, you can typically tell by the gaze of onlookers that what you’ve just done was moronic, insane, or just awesome. Not that the potential of idiocy or insanity had ever stopped Ricki before. She was the kind of woman that would go through with stupid stunts for a good laugh every other day, a living Jack Ass. For the past three years, Halloween had always ended up being the subject of some of the bigger horrific moments in her life. Time travel with Celebi to the Medieval Times, getting pulled into the labyrinth of doom last year, and now this year she tempted fate again by deciding that to celebrate the move from Hoenn to Kalos by dragging Jason with her through the region’s popular Sudowoodo Haunted Wood Walk.
Twirling a flashlight around her fingers, the green haired young woman seemed to be in her own world for the time being, music blasting through a new set of headphones. Stepping along the grassy path to the rhythm of the loud bass pumping through the headphone’s speakers, she almost seemed to be in her own world. Twirling the flashlight and with some pep in her step, the fact she was walking through some scary ass forest didn’t even seem to faze the Ricki. It was a bit strange to seem as Ricki had even decided that today she’d wear her Halloween costume since this was clearly an event to celebrate Halloween. A decked out ninja costume she’d wasted a good portion of one of her last pay checks on because it was too good to pass up on. Her signature green hair was up in a messy bun, part of her face obscured by the big black scarf she wore and the rest was pretty typical. A sleeveless tunic with arm long gloves that had netting over her elbows and guards for her forearms, even a fancy metal plate covered the back of her hands. A white cloth acted as a belt t the dark gray poofy pants that tucked into bandages and sucks around her ankles as she sported a pair of black flip flops. Socks and sandals, a blasphemous combination unless you were a motherfucking ninja, right? So, where were her pokéballs?
Opting to just not carry them since she would only have two anyways, Ricki was followed by Rep and a Crobat that swept pass overhead excitedly. Typically she’d take Spooker with her on a walk like this, but she had a number of Pokémon that needed to stretch their legs and wings. Looking up as Bruce the Crobat swooped by over head, Ricki took that as her cue to pull back her headphones and let them rest around her neck, practically vanishing into the scarf that kept her neck warm. It was a chilly night, but she didn’t seem to mind the cold. It never bothered her anyway. Pulling herself out of her little world, she’d glance back to make sure Rep and Jason were still following behind, before looking back ahead to see the entrance and two other people that lingered there as well. Tilting her head slightly, she hummed softly in thought at the sight of all too familiar white tuft of hair. Was that…?
“Ziggy!” she called out, before running off to practically tackle her old friend from behind. Arms around his neck as she pulled herself pretty much off the ground to force an impromptu piggy back ride on the unfortunate Zernebog Romanov. She was careful to avoid choking him though as she merely grinned at him from over his shoulder before looking at the person she had previously spotted bowing to Zernebog. “Sup?” she greeted oh so casually, before letting herself drop and move to stand next to her old friend ever so amused. “Friend of your’s?” she chimed with a look over to Zernebog as her Lucario finally caught up with her and stood beside her, already pretty much done with this situation.

NO LONGER WILL I HAVE TO REWIND THE PAST
It was odd, now that Jason thought about it - despite everything he had been taught growing up, the last year had done nothing but show him how little he actually knew about the world. He knew enough to get by on his own just fine, no, enough to thrive in just about any environment he was dropped into, but he never really got people until recently. Well, no - to correct that statement, it wasn't until the last few months that he had really started to grasp what he knew and understood about them, and how much more there was to learn. The distance traveled from Kanto and Johto to Sevii alone was more than educational in that regard, and the move to Hoenn for the past few months had only done more to expand on that. Kalos, however, was an entirely different beast, with elements of all three of the other regions present in its people and culture, and it was a strange feeling to be somewhere as alien as Kalos was.
Not entirely a bad sensation, however... from what Jason knew of his own skills, the foundation for most of them had been born in this region, supposedly in Lumiose and the other older cities where the buildings had been packed so close together, and the people were more than friendly enough. That being said, though, there were still some things that Jason took comfort in, admittedly things that most other people found unsettling or unnerving... and night was one of them. He always felt the safest when it was dark outside - for lack of a better word it was his natural environment, and being able to move with such confidence there wasn't something he could always do during the day. It was one of the few things that he felt he truly excelled at, and while Jason had never been one to boast there was still at least some small amount of pride he took out of that fact.
So, when Ricki had suggested the trip to Laverre to participate in a Halloween walk, Jason had agreed to it without even considering reasons why it might've been a bad idea - something he admittedly felt that he did far too often already, so for once he had gone with 'why not' rather than 'why'. What he hadn't expected was the extent to which she planned to prepare for the event, something which had left him feeling slightly out of place with just the usual white shirt and jeans he usually wore, although the addition of his work coat helped with that a little at least. He hoped, anyways - it was his first time taking part in anything like this, but most of those thoughts and the anxiety that went with them would be kept at the back of Jason's head as he followed after Ricki and her two Pokemon, thankful that the coat he had decided to take helped a bit with the night time chill.
Having been taking the time to simply enjoy the fact that he was outside for something other than work for the first time in a while, Jason was caught slightly off guard as Ricki suddenly took off to nearly tackle another person from behind. That was odd - how had she noticed him before he had? Either she was getting a lot better at picking up on her surroundings, or he was getting rusty... admittedly, though, both possibilities were things Jason was fine with. Change like that was good, and it was something of a relief to know that those headphones weren't blocking out the world in a way that might cause problems. Up ahead of the new arrival was another person, both of them trainers from the look of it but neither of them people that he recognized.
"Friends?" Jason asked, mirroring the question that had just been asked of the white haired trainer. Assuming they were, the last thing he really wanted to do was interrupt, especially if they were people Ricki hadn't seen in the last couple of years. Pausing to consider the situation, Jason would glance over to Rep to observe the Pokemon's reaction, hoping to pick up on something that might offer some insight.
Tell me, Creation Trio, was this your idea or is this Giratina’s idea of a funny joke?
When Zernebog came here and waited, he had fully expected to encounter a stranger or maybe even a random wild pokemon roaming about. After all, what were the odds of someone he knew dropping into this event at the same time and the same place that he did?
Honestly he should have known better. Someone up there loved to mock probability when it came to his luck. You’d think that he would learn by now, especially after everything he had experienced last year, but it seemed that there were just some things that a person couldn’t learn or took an extraordinary amount of time to learn.
Though he would never admit it, this was certainly starting to look like one of them.
”Izumi?” Zernebog didn’t bother to hide his surprise from his face. ”What brings you here? I thought you were in another part of Kalos?”
He then closed his mouth and waited for her response, only to be distracted a few moments in by a very loud and familiar voice. “Ziggy!”
Zernebog only had time for his eyes to widen and to begin turning his head around when he felt someone tackle him from the back, causing him to lurch forward and bend his knees a bit as he weathered most of the hit. Feeling hands wrap around his neck and a warm presence on his back, one of his gauntleted and bandage-covered hands went for her legs to prevent her from slipping down and choking him while the other one curled into a fist and went to try and smash into the intruder’s face.
A strand of green hair finally hammered home the fact of who the owner of the voice was, making both of his hands freeze. One was held in a horizontal bar position, straining a bit to hold her weight (later on he would thank Arceus that she was small and more importantly light –not that he would ever admit that sober- or else this would hurt much more than it already was) while the other froze mere inches from her face.
”…Ricki?” Zernebog’s fist slowly lowered, making soft metallic clicks and creaks beneath the bandages that covered them. ”I’d ask you why you were here, but judging by the large sign some ways back I can already guess why you’re here.”
He blinked owlishly as he took a deep breath to calm himself down a little more before continuing. ”Two things, Ricki. One, yes you could say that she’s a friend of mine. Two… why in the hell did you feel like latching onto my back like an Aipom or a Joltik? You couldn’t have walked up to me and greeted me normally, now could you?” He deadpanned as he tried his best to turn and look at her. It was hard considering that she was clinging onto his back, but he managed to see some of her face.
In his head, he was struck by the irony of him commenting about normal behavior. In fact, the realization was so jarring that a chibi version of him from two years ago popped up out of nowhere and laughed up a storm while smoking his kiseru at the audacity of someone like him pointing out weird greeting behavior. Then another chibi version of him -from last year this time- was just shaking his head in exasperation while leaning back on his nice leather chair. Even the peanut gallery in his head had their own two cents to put in about his remarks now. Just great. The jerks.
“Friends?” The addition of a new –and this time entirely unfamiliar- voice was enough to pull him out of his thoughts. After making a mental note to maybe book a shrink to ask about the weird chibi people in his imagination that had been popping up lately –like right now- he turned around with Ricki still on his back and turned to look at the new guy.
This guy had black hair and eyes and looked pretty non-descript… though he had to wonder if he really was if he was with Ricki in one form or another. She tended to attract the weirdoes and the psychos. Considering that Rep was near the guy and looked okay with him, he probably did know Ricki at least.
He greeted Rep with a wave and a nod of his head before addressing the black haired guy. ”Yeah, I’m a friend of this large green Joltik on my back.” Zernebog dryly replied as he pointed a thumb to Ricki. ”I’m guessing you are too?”

Looks like this was the very first time she would see another emotion (asides from the eternally poker face) on her master’s face, and she made no show to hide her surprise—which manifested as her eyebrows shooting up so high, they threatened to vanish into her hairline. In response to his question, she just smirked (as best as she could manage anyway) before answering, “Well… I got tired of training. I wanted to check out what they’re up to for Halloween,” before watching a very unusual spectacle happen—someone else had apparently tackled him from behind, and she watched as Zerne went into a defensive stance—almost ready to clobber the living daylights out of whoever had tackled him from behind—when she saw that it was someone who apparently knew him. Her reaction to this was to quickly raise her left arm up to a point just underneath her chest, and her right hand quickly hid most of her mouth as she bit back a very smug grin that was forming—she was so going to get into trouble for it later, she knew, but for now it was so totally worth seeing him displaying another form of emotion altogether!
The name that the newcomer had addressed him—she suspected it was an old friend, because she knew nobody else that called Zerne here a nickname (because he had a natural resting face that screamed, “call me anything stupid and you’re dead”) and actually get away with it—and was about to turn to address the young woman who had a shock of long green hair, when another individual turned up; and by the looks of things they all knew each other—and she was the only newcomer in the little group. After letting him speak first, she decided to get the ball rolling and introduce herself to the two; but not without going into the same histrionics of bowing to the both of them—at least they were within her field of vision. “Hello there, my name’s Izumi,” she said to the two, while going into the respectful bow that she always reserved for whenever she wanted to introduce herself to anyone—well, it was Josh who didn’t get this honor because they’d met while they were on a mission, but that was for another day—and then straightened up before letting her arms assume the same position that they had earlier; because honestly, seeing her master like this was completely and totally priceless!
She didn’t know the two—not yet anyway—and it helped to get the ball rolling by at least introducing herself to their companions. Now that she’d gotten it over and done with, she then stood back a few paces and watched as the rest of the scenery unfolded…
Legs caught to keep her from falling back, Ricki instantly regretted her decision as she usually did in these rather… Unfortunate moments. Originally she had intended to just tackle him and then hop almost immediately off of him, but his reaction had stalled her own plan and left her wide open for a rather unwelcomed retort flying right towards her. Jerking her head back instinctively when Zernebog’s hand went for the punch to the face, she ducked down slightly, bracing for the impact. Fortunately, just mere inches from impact, it seemed he’d finally register just who she was before the hit could land. Thank Arceus. As he questionably said her name, Ricki peeled open one golden eye to apprehensively watch the metallic creaking fist uncurl and lower away from its offensive position. Her eyes gradually peeled over and part of her expected him to just flat out drop her, but it seemed like Zernebog was in a good mood today. She immediately relaxed as his grip continued to keep her from slipping off, though part of her anticipated some easy fat joke to be in the makings in that mischievous mind of his.
Once he registered who she was, it didn’t take him long to rationalize why she would be here either. She just slumped forward on his back, almost anticipating him to possibly stumble or have to tense up to handle the jerk of the weight on his person. She almost forgot how much fun it was to mess with this guy. “Correcto-mundo, Ziggy” she chimed, patting his chest just before he took a deep breath. She knew what that meant, her mind already going ‘Oh, here we go.’ Staring down at him from behind as he got to his two points, Ricki merely rolled her eyes playfully as he almost got technical about his relationship with the young woman across from them. Her expression change though as he’d clearly get a hint more annoyed, voice going flat, as he demanded answers about her reasons for such a peculiar style of greeting. If anything, she looked admittedly amused and even seemed to be grinning in pride at the misfortune she had caused her old pal. “Because I wanted to, it ain’t rocket science” teased the green haired ninja as she gave a shrug. “Besides, I gotta keep you on your toes, old man, you never know when I’m coming” she tacked on with a laugh. With an arrogant sniff, she even adjusted the scarf around her neck.
As Jason would call out from behind, Ricki would lean to peer back. Rep on the sidelines would continue to watch with a look that may have even matched Zernebog’s own deadpan, amusing the trainer’s whom expression he nearly mimicked with a wave of his paw. When he was looked to him for some sort of sign or guidance on how to approach this situation from Jason, Rep merely gave a shrug and gestured onwards in a silent sign that if he wanted to get involved, that was up to him. However, it would seem as Jason wouldn’t have a choice as Ricki was already shimmying her way out of Zernebog’s grip to head back over to him. “Right, Jason!” Ricki called out to get the confused man’s attention as she grabbed his hand. Leading him closer to Zernebog and Izumi, she was about to do the introductions when it seemed Izumi would beat her to the punch of getting her name out there first. Seeing the bow, part of Ricki warned her that she didn’t have to bow and another part even mentioned that she probably shouldn’t in fear of doing it wrong and possibly insulting some culture. However decked out in ninja gear and in a pretty damn good mood, Ricki would bow right back to Izumi, coming back up with a bright grin.
“Nice to meet cha, Izumi. I’m Ricki and this here is Jason” she explained, gesturing up to him. Turning to Jason, she gave his hand a gentle squeeze to get his focus once more as her other hand would gesture to Zernebog. “Jason, this is a good old friend of mine, Zernebog. Zernebog, this is my boyfriend, Jason” she informed. Hopefully a certain white haired archaeologist wouldn’t jump to conclusions about Jason given Ricki’s previous history when it came to dating and the opposing gender…
Bruce the Crobat now descending to grip the back of Ricki’s clothes and hang from the back of her tunic as he found nothing of interest up ahead quite yet. Paying no mind to Bruce’s actions, Ricki would simply get to walking towards the entrance of the maze. “C’mon let’s get going before the sun comes up and kills the fun” Ricki declared, reaching into the scarf to pull out one of the old flashlights that had been given out by one of the workers wandering by the entrances into the forest’s maze.
#almost hit in the face Sorry for the wait! Figured I'd get the rolls going so we can get this disaster of a night rolling right away with introductions done. Sorry if it was a bit premature to do so though
Also, I am so tempted to have Ricki mention she used to be Zerne's boss just to make Izumi go "wait wat?"

NO LONGER WILL I HAVE TO REWIND THE PAST
Apparently so, at least judging from the white haired one's reaction - even as the hand came up and Jason found himself tensing up in preparation for the coming blow, it never happened, the man having stopped himself mid action, likely on recognizing who Ricki was. Still, what just happened did give Jason something to think about as another realization crossed through his head - the other guy's reaction speed was way too fast for someone who hadn't been trained or conditioned to be able to fight themselves, something that Jason of all people would know. That, in turn, gave rise to a number of other questions, especially considering what Jason knew of Ricki's past - the guy definitely wasn't a normal trainer, but all things considered it really didn't matter either way in the end. Rep and Ricki herself seemed to be fine with him, and considering his own past Jason wasn't about to go poking around in things that really weren't any of his business to begin with. Curiosity aside, though, Rep's own response was telling enough - up to him whether or not to get involved, and given the Fighting type's choice to remain on the sidelines Jason was going to go with the more experienced opinion.
A choice, however, that would be swiftly overridden as Ricki worked her way free of the white haired man's grip to make her way back to Jason, taking hold of his hand and beginning to pull him forward just as the last human in the group began speaking, introducing themselves as Izumi. What followed, though, was something that Jason hadn't seen for a long time outside of Johto, and an action that Jason had typically come to associate with old wealth and high profile business leaders. Not exactly something that Jason would've expected to see out in Kalos, and given his perspective when witnessing most of those kinds of introductions not an act that he would've expected to be on the receiving end of, or vice versa. Given the surrealism of the moment, however, Jason did what he did best, simply going with the flow and awkwardly following Ricki's lead as she returned the gesture and began to formally introduce the one she had attempted to tackle a moment ago.
"A pleasure to meet you-" Jason began, hoping that he was succeeding in keeping the interrogative tone out of his voice and managing to conceal whatever lingering unease he might have been feeling over his earlier observations concerning Zernebog as he squeezed Ricki's hand back in response. Old habits died hard, and as much as Jason might have logically known that he was perfectly safe that didn't stop his mind from piecing together what little he did know of Ricki's past associates to come up with the worst interpretation of that information as possible. Thankfully, though, Jason would be spared of any further attempts at social interaction as Ricki began to move ahead once more, his hand still in hers as the trainer began to do the one thing that seemed to come naturally to her - blaze a path ahead, the young woman making her way into the maze ahead of the other two and taking Jason along with her. Initially stumbling for the first step or two at the pull, Jason would quickly find his balance as he began walking to follow her, increasing his pace to keep up.
The flashlight in Ricki's hand lighting the path ahead as they began the walk through the corridor of densely packed trees and shrubs, Jason quickly found himself settling back into his comfort zone with not much beyond the sounds of the forest and whatever Pokemon that might have been hiding within it providing background noise, aside from the occasional footstep ahead or behind him. Quiet, calm, and safe... or at least Jason would've liked to think that, although he couldn't quite shake the feeling that he was being watched. Something, however, that he was more than willing to simply attribute to the other two people behind himself and Ricki - considering that they both knew each other, it wouldn't have been unusual for them to be paying more attention to their surroundings. At least that was what Jason was thinking until movement made itself known in the darkness ahead, both by sound and by what little Jason could see just outside of the flashlight's beam of light. Just as Zernebog had nearly hit Ricki earlier at the surprise greeting Jason found himself reacting out of muscle memory alone, jerking to a stop with the intent to force Ricki to do so as well before proceeding ahead.
What happened, though, was not at all what Jason had intended or expected. While he managed to stop in place just fine, the hand that Ricki had been holding would suddenly lose all sensation of the trainer's hand, warmth and pressure suddenly disappearing as if it hadn't been there and the flashlight that she had been holding hitting the ground with a dull thud. Okay, not what should have happened, and almost as soon as it did Jason's attention found itself divided between the source of the movement ahead that had disappeared into the darkness almost as quickly as it had shown itself and Ricki herself. While it was too dark to see exactly where she was, additional movement ahead pointed to her still being nearby - exactly why she had dropped the flashlight, though, was still unanswered as Jason carefully took another two steps forward before leaning down to pick up the tool and aim it ahead.
"Ricki..?" Jason started, intending to get her attention before the flash light panned over the trainer's form - or rather, straight through it to illuminated the path beyond her. Ye- no. Noooo. That wasn't right. Expression settling into one of both surprise and confusion, Jason turned the light upwards before flicking it on and off to test and then delivering a soft blow to the side of the tool and turning it back towards Ricki..... only to be met with the same result. Momentarily dumbfounded and not entirely sure how to deal with the sudden change or how it had happened, Jason simply stood in place as his mind began attempting a hard reboot, resisting the very strong urge to step forward and wave his arm through where Ricki appeared to be standing. An urge that eventually won out as Jason took another step forward, reaching out with his empty want to test Ricki's image for any form of physical resistance.
Even if he were a completely ignorant country bumpkin –which he had never been despite constant speculation to the contrary during his early years in that hellhole they called Hoenn- Zernebog could not have misinterpreted his student’s actions as anything other than amusement at his situation.
His eyes narrowed. He may have mellowed out since he had left that region, but that didn’t mean that he was about to tolerate sass and mockery from a student all things. It was one thing to get it from Ricki, who was a close friend and, though he loathed to admit it, his former boss at one point, but it was quite another to get it from someone who was supposed to be learning from him. She was going to regret that when they got to her next session.
Was it petty? Yes. Did he care? No. Not at all.
The weight on his back suddenly slumping forward reminded him that the green ninja Joltik was still on his back and was now calling him old of all things.
”Really? Old man’s the best you’ve got?” Zernebog inhaled slowly before exhaling through the nose. ”You need new better material if you’re resorting to my hair.”
He then blinked as he felt Ricki leaning back and was inclined to turn around to see just what she was looking at, but just as he was beginning to turn around Ricki shimmied from his grip and got off from his back. Thank Arceus. Light or not, it was still a strain on that arm to hold her up in that awkward position. At least he didn’t have to force her off with only an arm, though it would probably be easier to do while wearing his gauntlets if only for the additional pain factor.
Still, he wondered why she just got out like that. As it turned out though he didn’t have to wonder for long as he heard her mention a Jason just as he had finally turned around and saw her dragging along a black haired guy with the familiar form of Rep trailing behind him.
And then there was that unfortunate word. ”Boyfriend…?” Zernebog stared at the both of them with a disbelieving expression, complete with a raised eyebrow underneath his bandana.
If she had introduced this guy as her friend, then he wouldn’t have cared since he couldn’t judge her for her choice of friends. But since she introduced him as her boyfriend fully knowing that he knew about her horrible track record, he was instantly on high alert.
The word boyfriend and Ricki never ever bode good things for her. Or Ricki and romantic relationships, really. The last time she got in a relationship, she got married at nineteen and got divorced in the same year, something which he had known after snooping around records in Sinnoh for mentions of Arcane and its members both past and present when he had come back out of a sense of self-preservation and paranoia. Her relationship before that was with some crazy dude in the organization they were both in that was even worse than her ex-husband.
Needlessly to say, she had horrible taste in guys.
”Boyfriend, huh?” Zernebog eyed the guy suspiciously, but he couldn’t find anything wrong with him other than the fact that he looked like your normal everyday guy. Of course, he really could be just be an average joe but Ricki had never been that lucky, so he was still on edge.
Still that didn’t stop him from cracking a smirk. ”Hopefully it’ll go better for you than the first two tries. Maybe third time’s the charm might actually apply to you this time.” He deadpanned.
He then turned his attention to vic- er, significant other number three. ”I guess it’s nice to meet you though. You look more stable than the other two, you’re ahead of the game already~” He commented as he gave the guy a lazy wave.
Being used to Ricki, he didn’t even blink when a Crobat perched on her shoulder or when she started pulling her boyfriend and demanding that they all move their asses into the path right after that. ”Yeah, yeah… let’s go Izumi. Might as well follow the one with the flashlight.” He muttered as he followed after the two other people and the Lucario, easily keeping up with the pace.
The group quickly settled into a quiet, sedate pace, which was weird considering that both he and Ricki were in the same group and weren’t dealing with anything that was imminently life-threatening. Still, he wasn’t about to look a gift Rapidash in the mouth so he went along with the pace while it still lasted. He didn’t know if they were going to be lucky enough to have this sort of thing for the entire time here –because he knew better with both him and Ricki in this group- so he might as well enjoy it while he can.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to enjoy it for long before something moved in the darkness ahead, just out of reach from the flashlight’s range. He instinctively dashed forward in order to try and chase after it, but it was gone in another instant, forcing him to stop in his tracks. He scowled. He knew that he saw something and that it wasn’t just his imagination. Not if the other guy stopped too.
Something was here. Arceus, this was going to be like the labyrinth from last year wasn’t it?
No… he wasn’t going to get caught off-guard like last year. Still scowling and scanning around the area for any other movement in the area, he took out one of his most trusted and reliable sensors and trackers without his usual fanfare.
”Lu?” Zernebog didn’t need to know that Diomedes was staring at him in curiosity and wondering why he let him out this early into the walk.
”Dio, I want you to keep an eye out for anything suspicious, alright?” Zernebog whispered so that only he and his pokemon could hear. ”I don’t trust this place. Be prepared for the worst because we might need your extra firepower….” He then trailed off, his eyes lingering at the choker on Diomedes’ neck with a special stone with a cat’s eye design set on it for a few moments before looking up to where Ricki and her boytoy were.
He froze.
For the first time in months, Zernebog was both speechless and absolutely stumped at the sight of the light going through Ricki. He was so stunned that took a few moments for him to get his voice working again.
”Ricki….” Zernebog began in a strained voice. ”Why are you… see-through? You look like one of those hologram projections, but in color.”
NOTES

It had been a while since she’d seen her master leer at her so evilly, it made her very own soul shiver within. What was it with him, looking so vindictive all of a sudden? She decided to shelve those thoughts in the meantime, before curiously watching the rest of the introductions take place. It looked as if Ricki and her shisho knew each other from somewhere; the way the older woman had managed to jump up on him and not get chewed out, shot, or otherwise horribly injured in the process. She has guts, I’ll give her that… she thought, making a few mental notes to try and not to get on her bad side. If I’d try doing that to him, he’d add more than just laps to our next training session… or worse, she continued with another shudder; before falling in step with him, following Ricki—since she was the one who had the flashlight anyways. Since the surroundings were definitely starting to creep her out, she decided to bring out a little more extra “light” to this venture, as she played with a Friend Ball that contained Arashi, her Typhlosion—who was now looking up at her quite expectantly.
Alright, come on out, I guess having another light source won’t hurt our chances… she thought as she tossed the Friend Ball skywards, and the flash of red light revealed a Typhlosion who had began to stretch, before letting his mane flash a bright flare. Well, he did try to make his mane of fire burn brightly—but from that point, something…strange was going on. What was causing her Typhlosion’s flames to burn at a dimmer illumination level? She’d heartily wanted to ask him to try to exert a bit more effort in it; but decided not to—instead, she then looked over at where Ricki stood, beside her companion—but there was something definitely wrong with this picture. She heard her master address Ricki, sounding quite surprised; and she then blinked and directed her field of vision to where she stood—but where were her feet? And…why was she so pale? What the hell…? She thought, doing a double-take as her master’s words registered in her head. Don’t tell me… don’t tell me something’s going to happen… she thought, her left hand in her pocket, clenching the Love Ball as tightly as she could.
Even the Typhlosion had looked curiously at what was going on—and almost jumped back a few paces out of surprise—why was one of their companions suddenly more corporeal than solid?! “Ty…typhlosion,” she heard Arashi grunt from somewhere near her—watching as the Fire-type then slowly wandered forward, as if to test the theory that he was most likely thinking of as well. Normally, anything solid would bump into each other, causing the proper reactions—but instead of actually trying to bump himself lightly against what he assumed were the green-haired woman’s legs in reassurance, or curiosity; he instead found himself slipping through her figure. He then ended up bumping into the wall—or what he thought was the wall—and tried the little experiment out once more—and got the same results. There was nothing else to it: one of their companions had seemingly been turned into a spectral entity. Over at where Izumi stood, she could only blink, as her suspicions were confirmed by her Typhlosion—how could someone who was living flesh and blood just mere minutes earlier had become something that resembled the ectoplasmic matter that comprised the Ghost-type population that existed…?

Sorry for the wait guys. If you're ready to march ahead, I can post up the next Mod Summons for the next roll to get us moving again. Also, Ricki does not like being a ghost.

“Boyfriend…?” Ricki could almost hit Zernebog for the very tone he used to say that. Of all of her friends, he was probably the most utterly aware of just whom she had dated in the past because he had had the misfortune of meeting and working with both persons. While she was unaware of the paranoid bastard’s snooping into her files back in Sinnoh, she still knew that he knew just what the word ‘boyfriend’ and Richelle Jace meant. He’d made it rather clear in the past that he had zero faith in her taste in men, but if he dared utter it, she was going to rip him a new one. However as he unleashed his train of sass, Ricki could only allow herself to glare him down as she remembered that it would probably be very frowned upon to start punching Zernebog repeatedly.
Imagining it would have to do for now.
Giving him a flat look and rolling her eyes, she shook her head and turned towards the reason for all of them being there tonight. Charging on ahead into the maze, rearing to go as always, Ricki was the first of the quad to enter the darkness. A woman with her history and luck regarding these kind of scenarios, one might think she’d be a fair bit more cautious upon entering the woods. However, Ricki always liked to try and think she had at least some shreds of good luck and fortune left in her for this time of the year. Flashlight in hand, she was fairly confident that this Halloween certainly wouldn’t live up to the reputation all prior Halloween’s had right? Turning into a deino, getting stuck in the maze of doom… Her luck was bad, but was it really that bad?
…
This was about to become one of those moments where someone jinxes themselves with the stupidity of saying “well, at least it can’t get any worst” because it can and you bet your sorry ass it will.
Holding the flashlight up so proudly to light the path ahead, it didn’t take long for the group to fall into a rather peaceful and comfortable silence. Or well, that’s how the others may have described it, but Ricki wasn’t exactly at ease in this silence out here. She knew this kind of peace all too well, a calm before the storm kind of thing. Or maybe it was just the fact she had felt the eyes on her just as Jason was and the fact no one was saying anything left that sensation to be all the more unnerving. She didn’t let it show, not bothering to glance back over her shoulder, and just focused on walking forward with her grip remaining firmly around Jason’s hand. The eyes slowly dug deeper into her, though, and she was surprised to see her hands weren’t trembling. She kept calm – opting to march forward rather than face the ridicule of turning tail to run courtesy of Zernebog Romanov.
However, her decision to march onwards may have been what led her right into that “at least it can’t get any worst” jinx situation mentioned earlier.
Just a hair out of the range of the flashlight’s beam, something moved and time halted for a second. Ricki stumbled forward, and immediately her whole body went numb and cold. The warmth and assuring comfort of holding onto Jason’s hand was snatched away and the flashlight dropped from her hand even though she was certain had had a tight grip on the old thing. The weight of Bruce hanging from her back was suddenly gone and the bat like Pokémon took flight to the skies with a of cry confusion at suddenly losing his perch. Jason would call out to her worriedly and that’d be Ricki’s cue to finally look back. She whipped around to see what all the fuss was about and everything took a turn for the… weird? Almost turning too far with a swift realization she felt far lighter than before, Ricki would find herself facing the group just as Jason would shine the flashlight on her. Shielding her eyes briefly from the light, by the time her eyes adjusted, Ricki would look back at them to see a crowd of very confused and panicked faces.
No one really said anything for a moment, Ricki could only look at them in confusion as to why they were all just quietly eyeing her. Did they notice her shivering had worsened? The fact she could actually see her breath? It was colder, noticeably so. She had half the mind to try and take Jason’s jacket from him, but now didn’t feel like the right time to ask for permission to hijack his clothing. After what felt like an eternity, finally Zernebog’s voice would be the one to crack out her name. Ricki’s head would slowly turn to look to him as she began to hug herself in a silent search of warmth.
“Why are you… See-through? You look like one of those hologram projections, but in color.”
What the fuck was he talking about? Why was he looking at her like that? Why were they all staring at her like that?
Ricki’s head snapped up right, she leaned back slightly away from the group and opened her mouth to speak when surprisingly Jason’s hand would reach out for her, along with the head of what she assumed to be Izumi’s Typhlosion. “What the fuck are you guys doi—” her voice caught in her throat as Jason’s hand waved right into her gut shortly followed by the Typhlosion passing right through her. Could a ghost feel sick? She felt sick. Ghosts could feel sick. She tried to push Jason’s hand away, startled and unnerved by the contact, but her hand went right through his arm. “Cut it out!” she snapped at the Typhlosion as it’d wander back through her and she immediately scooted back from the group, holding herself tighter and shaking her head.
Shuttering something hard, she slowly pried her hands from her arms to stare down at them and just as Zernebog had said, she was see-through like a colored hologram. “The fuck…?” she softly whimpered to herself, rotating her hands and flexing her fingers. Yeah, everything was connected, but it felt so oddly loose and free? The slightest movement needed no effort. Rep raced up to her when she backed away and she saw the flaps on the back of his head were at full attention but he still looked very alarmed as he gave a try at grabbing her hands. Right through again, no matter how much the Lucario tried, he couldn’t’ grab his trainer’s hands.
“Rep, stop it” Ricki suddenly ordered firmly. Not pushing his luck, the Pokémon relented and obeyed his trainer’s command. Her hands retreated to once more tightly hugging herself with a grip so tight, if she were tangible, it may have bruised, and Ricki was no longer in a cheery mood. “The next person that wants to try to go through me will go through a tree!” she threatened, and started to back up slightly. “I don’t know what happened. One second I’m all nice and warm, and now I’m cold as tits and it feels fucking weird, okay?!” she lashed out, her voice adopting an odd and haunting reverberation that seemed to suit her now ghostly appearance.
Rep’s ears folded back as he couldn’t detect at all where his trainer was moving, but she seemed to be retreating ever so slowly down the path. “C-C’mon, it’s probably just something to do with these woods, that’s it. I’ll be fine, Arceus you people!” she declared, starting to turn away. “The answer to fix this weird situation might be in here, but if you wanna go back, go. Don’t need you all suddenly being unable to hold a fucking flashlight. I’ll do it myself” she stated, continuing onwards and not allowing herself the time to dwell on what she was or what had happened to her.
Despite the anger and fire to move forward, to say she was scared out of her mind may be an understatement, but like Hell Ricki Jace was gonna let death stop her from getting a move on.
