fishing time

Kouji then decided to try and reduce his current “stock” of Dive Balls, considering that he had quite a number of them on hand at the moment. Wondering if he could get his Old Rod upgraded to something a bit more…appealing, he then decided to take a little “time out” from Kalos and head on over to the Sevii Islands; which brought him much closer to Kanto than he would have wanted. If he’d decided to go to Kanto, the city he’d definitely visit would be Vermillion and he’d never leave if given the chance, so it was with a heavy heart he decided to steer clear of the Sunset City and instead head on over to one of the seven Sevii Islands, and try his own fishing luck.
He knew that he still had a few unevolved ‘mons, so he saw this as the perfect chance to actually get them moving—in particular, his Ralts that he was pretty sure would run into an identity crisis once it reached the Kirlia stage—he didn’t want a Gardevoir, he wanted a Gallade, and that he was going to get once he actually got Rymista here going and evolving.
“Right, so…” he began, sometime later after arriving on Floe Island and settling himself out on the makeshift dock that he’d found there, dipping his line into the water, his Ralts by his side. “So Rymi… are you up for the challenge? Do you want to get stronger?” he asked the Psychic-type that was staring at him, before it looked out again at the water. He could see a few images flickering in front of his line of vision, and he looked down again at the little Ralts that was watching him as well; waiting for whatever would come out of the water and attack them both! “Ahhh, today I’m taking it easy. You’re the one getting all the attention now,” he said with a grin on his face as he then lowered his feet into the cold, soothing water; watching the sun reflect off its surface. The line was balanced on a peculiar “stand” he’d made out of fallen bamboo; and his camera was there in one of his waterproof bags on his opposite side; he needed to at least snap pictures of whatever he’d fish up!

The line that he’d lazily set into the water started twitching; before becoming an all-out tremble. “Whoa. Don’t tell me something’s on the end of the line?!” he said, looking down at the Ralts, who just stared back at him in confusion—before he made a quick grab for the line and then decided to reel in whatever was tugging at the opposite end of the line that he’d dropped down into the water! After a few moments of struggling and thrashing around, he then came up with what looked like a tadpole—only thing is it had some sort of swirl on its belly—and then knew that this one would be a good addition to the Ranch. “Right, Rymi, let’s get going. Magical Leaf this thing for me now, will you?” he asked the Ralts that was standing beside him, and he was met with silence. A few seconds later, however, there was a sudden assault of crescent-shaped leaf blades that then raced through the sky, smacking and tripping the Poliwag off of its line!
Seeing that it was now going to be attacked, Kouji then yanked his Old Rod backwards and then skidded back a few paces before preparing himself with what would be one crazy battle. The Poliwag, in retaliation for being unceremoniously fished out of the water, then quickly did something strange-as if it was summoning some sort of courage—and then quickly let out a powerful torrent of water aimed right at the Ralts! “Oh crap I know this one… Rymi, Double Team then hit it with Psychic!” he said, bracing himself for the impact of Hydro Pump to go splattering all around the general area; and it did “rain” for a few moments; but thankfully through the wild spray he’d seen the Ralts dodge it before releasing a blob of powerful, materialized energy! The Poliwag was caught unaware of what was about to hit it, and he continued, “Follow that up with Magical Leaf before it decides to do anything crazy!” he continued; and soon after, the blob of Psychic energy smacked the Poliwag—but that wasn’t the end of it, because a few moments later, another torrent of conjured leaves whizzed through the air; and the Poliwag couldn’t dodge this one at least; because Magical Leaf had this funny little quirk of never missing its target.
“Yes! Now, come—wait a second, what?!” he said out of surprise, watching as the Poliwag then fired off another beam made of concentrated bubbles, and he could only sigh, before continuing, “Rymi, Psychic and Magical Leaf again,” while preparing the Dive Ball he was already holding, waiting for capture. The conjured manifestation of psychic energy cut through the Bubblebeam, dispersing it in two directions as it then hit the Poliwag; before another round of conjured leaves came chasing it from behind, whipping around the struggling tadpole. After a few more feeble attempts at struggling, it then flopped over, and he then tossed the Dive Ball towards it; hoping that it would come along!

bad luck Kouji

He waited with apprehension for the Dive Ball to “click”, signifying that the capture had gone through—and since the Poliwag did do a weird move that had caused to eventually get knocked out much earlier than usual, it was a success! He then scooped up the ball and then watched as it was then whisked off to the Ranch; since his own PC had a different bunch of setting placed on it—instead of ending up sitting in cyberspace, they would automatically be teleported to the Ranch and left to go loose within the boundaries. “Well, one down then,” he said with a sheepish grin as he then looked at his Ralts who was now pointing to something that was going on behind him. “Eh? What’s going on?” he continued, seeing that it was pointing at something that only it could see—and he turned around to see that there was another ‘mon that had apparently flopped and pulled itself out of the water due to the ruckus and noise that they’d caused. “Hoo boy. I think I know what to do with this one…” he said with a grin, stepping back as his Ralts then moved forward.
“Prepare the Magical Leaf! Then let it go! You know what, make that three instances of Magical Leaf!” he added, backpedaling and correcting himself; since he just realized how…valuable the move was at the present time. The Ralts nodded, and raised its short appendages before summoning one, two, three waves of razor-sharp leaves borne from its psychic power, and in one gesture, sent the entire horde flying! The Shellder retaliated by quickly clamping its own shell shut; and he could only guess that it was trying to raise its defenses; yet there were three waves of non-missing leaves that were now swirling around the Shellder, attempting to force it out of the defensive maneuver it had taken. A few moments later, it then re-opened its shell… before taking a deep breath and blasting another high-powered volume of water right at Kouji and the Ralts! “Ah, hell no!” he could only shout as the volume of water soaked him from head to toe—thankfully it had missed the bag where the camera was stashed!
Secretly thanking his lucky stars that he’d invested in a waterproof bag, he then pointed the Ralts forward again—because it had missed the Ralts (and ended hitting him instead) he was now, for lack of a better word, incensed. “All my best clothes, ruined! Now I have to let them dry. Rymi, three waves of Magical Leaf again! Send it back into the water!” he shouted, and the Ralts nodded, before summoning up another literal “blizzard” of leaves made of its own psychic power—and then letting it fly, striking the now-exposed Shellder from all directions, knocking it over backwards as it tried to correct itself and ended up splashing again in the water! “Ugh, now that that’s done…” he said with a groan, mopping the wet hair out of his face as he picked up the Old Rod and then let the line fly again, this time gripping the pole with both his hands.
“Let’s hope we get something interesting…” he muttered to himself as the Ralts then proceeded to hide behind his legs.

bad luck kouji, indeed

After sometime had passed (and by then only half of his clothes had dried) Kouji decided to just… strip down. Taking off his shirt while holding the Old Rod was no easy task, but somehow he’d managed it. He also managed to drag the makeshift stand for the Old Rod and draping his sopping-wet shirt atop that instead so that it could at least air out to dry. He didn’t mind going topless every once in a while, that plus he needed a tan too! At the same moment he’d managed to place his shirt to dry out on the makeshift stand, he felt something tugging at the line again—he could only guess what it was. “Drats, Rymi, hang on!” he shouted, digging his feet into the platform, letting his sandals grip as hard as he threw his weight onto his feet as he felt the line suddenly wiggle, then thrash violently. I hope that this is not a Gyarados. Otherwise this is going to be utter hell, he thought to himself as he yanked backwards as hard as he could manage—and then finally managed to get something that suddenly spat out evil, purplish-colored projectiles that fell to the platform!
“Ugh, that smells bad,” he remarked, coughing slightly at the malodorous Toxic Spikes; and hoping that he didn’t have to push his Rats too far forward. “Rymi. Okay, let’s try something else. Psychic Leaf!” he shouted, trying his first combined-attack from a single ‘mon. The Ralts then stepped out from behind his legs, barely stopping before the noxious-looking Spikes coated in some sort of sludge; before flinging its limbs out high and then conjuring up a blob of physically-manifested psychic energy. At the same time, it also conjured the same hailstorm of leaves made from that same energy, and with a single wave, quickly sent it flying towards the Tentacool, which was too busy leering at them for it to notice the incoming attack! Grinning at the success of the attempt, he was about to command the Ralts to engage in another attack—when he suddenly saw another stream of high-pressured water headed their way! “Oh crap, really?!” was all he could shout as the Hydro Pump then proceeded to drench him again from head to toe; Ralts included. Kouji had taken most of the damage; and now shook his now-wet hair (again) out of his face as he then slapped a palm to his forehead.
Was it just not his lucky day? He then blinked and saw that the Tentacool had seemingly extended its…tentacles…and was attempting to draw in the Ralts with another one of its attacks, but he was quick to notice—and then called out the next set of commands. “Rymi! Psychic that again! You know what? Make it a Psychic Leaf!” he shouted, cringing internally at the thought of the tentacles wrapping around any single part of his own body! The Ralts nodded, before first conjuring up one single blob of psychic energy and sending it hurtling towards the Tentacool; before doing the same “combination attack” it had tried out earlier—this time in reverse order. It first summoned the leaves made from its own power before sending the projectiles flying—and then following it up right away with another Psychic attack! The Tentacool wasn’t able to do anything as it was apparently weak to Psychic-type attacks; and quickly folded underneath the might of the combined attacks that were flung its way. “Well, I sure know what to call you…” he muttered as he took out another Dive Ball and tossed it at the inert Tentacool.

Kouji was kind of wishing that he didn’t get drenched; because having to deal with something that could literally make you sick due to overexposure was something he was trying to avoid—he’d been drenched in a torrent of water exactly three times now; and didn’t want to get wet anymore. So when he heard the Dive Ball “click” and shuddered to a halt, he then breathed a sigh of relief—he could now continue going on fishing in peace! Watching as the Dive Ball was whisked away to the Ranch; he then cast his line into the water one more time, secretly hoping that whatever came up next did not have that godforsaken move he was now loving to hate. Mopping some more of his dripping-wet hair out of his face, he then sighed…before feeling a pull on the line. “Oh boy. Let’s hope this one isn’t as nasty as the others…” he muttered to himself, quickly steeling his grip as the twitching became more evident; and then it became a full-on struggle! The Ralts hanging around his legs could only watch in shock as Kouji dug in his heels on the platform, trying to anchor himself down—because whatever was on the other end of the line was putting up a fight!
“Come on, get out of the water already!” he shouted as he threw all his weight into pulling against the powerful force that was on the opposite end of the line—and a few moments later a star-shaped silhouette came flying out of the ocean, and landed with a flopping noise on the small pier. “Oh boy. What is this supposed to be?” he said, carefully walking past the Toxic Spikes and taking a look at the thing—it was a starfish, alright; but this starfish had a gem! “Hmmm,” he began to himself, the Ralts still hanging around his leg, looking at it with some regard. “Should I catch it? Should I skip it? Or…” he continued muttering to himself, watching as it continued to flop all over the small pier; before he picked up the line and let it dangle for a few moments. “You know what, I’ll set you free. Go on now, go swim again,” he continued, dropping the line back into the water—he had a bad feeling that hell would follow if he decided to fight this little thing.
After feeling a few tugging sensations against the line, he then hoisted it back up and saw that there was nothing hooked on the other end; so he was safe… for now. “Come on, Rymi. Let’s go look for something else…” he trailed off, grabbing his still-dripping wet shirt and then moving down the beach area, looking for another place to fish.
