you can't sit around and watch
Charlie typically isn't one to complain about her whereabouts, but she begrudgingly admits to Celia that she would rather be anywhere else in Nue than in Iceburgh. The girl prefers her sunlight and warmth. Despite being amphibious in nature, Celia doesn't seem to mind all too much, granted Celia typically doesn't seem to mind about a lot of things.
A few days ago, Charlie had caught word from some passerby trainers that a Venonat swarm was in the forested regions surrounding Iceburgh. Snow drips off of pine needles and Charlie shivers, drawing the collar of her newly bought parka closer to her skin. Celia ambles alongside her and for a few moments Charlie wonders if they're wandering around aimlessly. Again, she's usually up for an adventure, but right now she just wants to get what she came here for and freaking leave.
A twig snaps to their left and Celia leans forward to peer around Charlie. The Croagunk's eyes widen and she sways backward; a large fuzzy creature flies by Charlie and smacks right into Celia's face. Charlie, almost never caught by surprise, screams and jumps back quite a distance. She stumbles backward as Celia wrestles with the Venonat that's suctioned itself to her face. "Mud-slap! Mud-slap!Oof." Charlie trips over an exposed tree root and lands on her ass.
Celia slams her black and orange fingers into the ground and shoots up two rivulets of mud from either side of her. The Venonat emits a high-pitched buzzing noise and topples off of Celia's face. Celia takes a few steps back, looking slightly alarmed, and touches her face. Once the Venonat recovers, it bounces on its feet and charges towards Celia again, this time fangs out and glowing purple with Poison Fang. "Get out of the way. Throw another Mud-Slap at it." Celia lurches forward and executes a neat cartwheel to get out of the way. Upon finding her feet back on the ground, she uses her momentum to swing her hands back down. Another stream of mud flies towards the Venonat and it barely has a chance to turn around before it strikes it again. Its round body tumbles backward from the force of the hit and the buzzing sound coming from its body intensifies.
It shakes off the mud collecting in its velvety purple fur and its red eyes flash white for a brief moment. Celia blinks and shakes her head and waits for Charlie's orders. "Mud-slap again," she says, but Celia just blinks, orange cheeks puffing in and out. The Disable had definitely hit its mark and the Venonat takes no time taking advantage of Charlie's brief confusion.
The Confusion hits Celia hard, but the Croagunk still picks herself up on her feet to face her opponent. In the distance, Charlie hears the sound of more buzzing, of trainers traipsing through the forest and calling orders to their own Pokemon. Charlie's never been in a swarm before and it's madness. She's just glad the other Venonat are leaving her alone.
"Okay, Celia, it's not going to be very effective, but let's get it with Poison Sting." Celia hopes the previous Mud-Slaps that managed to hit have weakened the Venonat enough for the Poison Sting to be somewhat effective. Charlie bites her lip and raises her hand to one of her other Pokeballs, but then she steels herself. She can do this. Celia can do this. The Croagunk is already running towards the Venonat, jumping with her gangly arms swaying from side to side and Charlie realizes she's moving so the Venonat can't focus another Confusion on her. She's even smarter than me, Charlie thinks.
Purple needles expel from Celia's mouth and embed into the Venonat's thick fur. The creature bristles angrily, but she can see its steps faltering. It charges forward with another attempted Poison Fang and Celia winces as it manages to catch one of her hands mid-jump. "Quick, while it's got a hold on you! Poison Sting right into its face!" Celia snickers and opens her mouth. An array of purple needles shoot out yet again, this time from only a few inches away, and they stick themselves right in the Venonat's face. It shrieks and lets go of Celia. While the Croagunk rolls out of harm's way, Charlie unclips an empty Pokeball from her belt and tosses it towards the Venonat.

Why the hell there was a place as cold as this he had no clue. He wished that he was nice and warm at his gym but instead he was stuck in this frozen little ball of hell trying to track down some Pokemon. There had been a worried call about some bug type Pokemon that were wandering around in a group. They hadn't really been sure what sort of Pokemon they were but the people who called were worried that they might be in some sort of trouble. After all bugs didn't generally like the cold weather. Just one more thing he happened to have in common with them. So instead of being nice and safe bundled up with a book he was now trekking through cold snow in the middle of the night.
He wasn't sure how easy it was going to be to find these bugs in the dark like this but hopefully he'd be able to bring them out of hiding. The flashlight he was using was one specifically made to draw bugs in. There was something about the light that reminded them of the flames that moths were drawn to. They were especially useful in times like this because even if they didn't want to come to the light it would at least reflect off of their eyes if they were large enough. From what he'd heard from the person calling in they had large round eyes and looked to be a bit fuzzy making him believe that he was on the search for a group of Venonat. With the fur on their bodies at least they probably wouldn't freeze before he could find them.
The sound of a rustling bush caused him to pause and flash the bright light over in that direction and the gleaming of bright red eyes caused him to stop walking. Finally he'd found what he was looking for. Not sure what exactly he was in for with the group of Pokemon he started to reach for one of the filled Pokeballs on his belt. If they were wild bugs there was always the chance that they'd want to fight him for intruding on them. He had the perfect Pokemon to take care of it and she would even help clear a bit of the snow out of the way. Then again he probably should have had Aveline out to begin with. She would have been able to keep him warm while he was walking. Mew he was dumb...
"It's alright, I'm just here to help..." When they didn't immediately attack he moved his hand from the Pokeball and instead moved to his pocket and pulled out a couple berries. It was easier to win them over with food than battling but he wasn't going to risk getting too close. Wild Pokemon were unpredictable and while they seemed to be docile for the moment that could change at a whim. A wrong move and he could end up pissing them off and that's the last thing he wanted to do. Cautiously the pair wandered closer and it was obvious they weren't afraid of humans. He wasn't exactly sure what they were doing out here but he did know that his legs were starting to freeze and lock up because of how he was crouching.
Slowly he began to adjust his stance, trying not to startle the pair as he moved to a more comfortable position. Unfortunately though it cause his foot to slide over a more solid bit of snow that was more ice than fluff. Causing him to fall backwards and startle the pair of bugs as he landed on his backside. This was just what he needed. With a rattled hissing noise that only a bug could make they jumped backwards. The Venonat's antennae wagged back and forth as they tried to assess the situation on whether or not they should run or attack. Garrus seriously hoped that they weren't going to run. He didn't want to have to chase after them after falling so hard on his tail.
It seemed as though he had a bit of luck this time though as instead of running away the waddled a little bit closer. Garrus stayed perfectly still so that he didn't send them into a fearful frenzy once more. He was vulnerable while trapped like this and sudden movements would mean it would be a race to see if he could get a Pokeball out in time in order to battle them. "S-see? No harm. I just fell over." He moved to adjust himself once more but this time since he was already on the ground he didn't have to worry about falling. They scooted closer to him, one of them even going so far as to pat his leg gently.
So they hadn't been about to attack a few moments ago, just scared because of the rapid sudden movements. Holding the berries out for the pair he let out a small sigh of relief. This was less of a rescue mission and more of him getting familiar with two Pokemon that were probably too friendly towards humans than they should be. Bug Pokemon were subjected to a lot of prejudice just because a lot of people found them creepy and that was one of the reasons he was so intensely devoted to taking care of them. His hand empty of berries he reached out and patted the closer one on the head.
It only stopped nibbling for a moment to look up at him before returning its focus on the berries. He didn't have any Venonat at the gym and since these two were already here and friendly it would be better to take them along, right? Gently he picked one of them up and the only resistance he got was a small squeaking noise as it curiously wondered why it was suddenly being lifted up from the ground. Tiny feet kicked back and forth gently until he set the puff ball into his lap. Not a few moments later the other Venonat followed suit and crawled up on his own.
This was his life. Sitting in a pile of snow while two Venonat sat on his lap. Occasionally they squirmed but at this point he was pretty sure they were just happy for the source of warmth. Sure they had the fuzz all over their bodies but that didn't stop their feet from getting cold. Especially since it was the middle of the night. Moving one of his arms Garrus sighed and pulled out two empty Pokeballs. If they weren't willing to come with him now then they'd never be. Tapping them gently with the Pokeballs he hoped it would stick so that he could head back to the motel for the night and warm up.

The Professor of Aerodynamics was very much aware of the fact that asides from avians, there were also bugs that could turn into ‘things that had wings’; and any Pokémon that could support themselves in the air without having to resort to artificial means of flight was a priority on his list—in a way, he was like those ‘crazy cat ladies’, only instead of owning cats in all shapes and sizes, he chased after anything and everything that could fly or support themselves in mid-air without having to cheat their way through it. Of course, though, once he’d gotten word that there were swarms all about, he decided to investigate them once more—blocking off a certain part of the day in order to allow for the travel time to where the ‘epicenter’ of the swarm was taking place.
The last time he’d gone out (and had eventually acquired himself a pair of what he now knew to be Taillow) he’d encountered what could be best summarized as a Bird Keeper’s worst nightmare—feathers and all manner of undesirable ‘ticking time bombs’ of the white, sticky, smelly variety everywhere. Here’s to hoping that this time, it’s going to be something a bit more…tolerable, he thought with a shudder as he then slipped off the shades he’d worn during the trek out to where the ‘source’ of the swarm was. Little did he realize that he would be walking into another nightmare altogether—that aside, he then decided that today was going to be ‘training day’ for several of his under-developed minions.
“Alright, you two. Come on out of there, we got some work to do,” he began, plucking out two particular containment units and sending out their occupants in a flash of red light. The first one materialized into his capable, yet slightly-cuckoo bonkers avian of a Rufflet; while the second one turned into something more…humanoid; his Ralts, which he’d named Chaos. “Hello there. Today we’re out in the field, and we’re going to—“ he began; catching the attention of his companions when a loud buzzing noise drifted over to where they stood. “Ah. It appears we’ve angered the ‘local’ wildlife. That aside… be careful,” he continued, giving his two companions a look of concern; before taking the lead and heading right into the hornet’s nest.
“Kyouya, Chaos… come on, keep up, we haven’t got all day,” he added, looking over his shoulder several paces later and seeing that the two were still standing at the same spot where they’d emerged. He then chuckled to himself as the two then came racing forward, the avian trying to fly—but ending up scurrying along on the ground instead. That’s also what we’re here for, Kyouya. To get your wings… he thought to himself as he continued with the two trailing him not too far behind. The buzzing noise grew louder and more…anarchistic the deeper they waded through the wilderness—and Damian could feel the hairs on the back of his neck starting to stand up on end. The waves then began attacking without warning—and the Professor suddenly lost his footing, tripping forward and landing on the ground with a hard crash!
“Gah! Owww, what the hell?!” he groaned, trying to move his feet—but realizing that he couldn’t; for the Venonat swarm had already taken countermeasures and had set up several powdery traps of their own! “Ugh, can’t feel my legs… numb—“ he dropped off before realizing what had hit him—it was Stun Spore! “Be on your guard, you two! They’re—“ he began as the buzzing noise rose up in one loud, irritating, gigantic chorus and revealed that there was a wall—no, make that several walls—of purple-furred, red-eyed bugs that were now staring at what could possibly be their next meal! “En guard!” he yelped at the two who then rushed over in alarm, worried about what was going on—but their show of concern was interrupted by a sudden earsplitting noise—several of the Venonats had taken it upon themselves to unleash a barrage of Supersonic right at the little group!
“Chaos! Sink into the shadows! Kyouya, try to grab one of them and—“ he spat out before a second barrage of the same earsplitting, confusion-inducing Supersonic cut through the area! the Ralts had already disappeared into the shadows; waiting for further orders—while the Rufflet had veered forward; only to receive the full blast of the Supersonic status change head-on and was successfully Confused; due to the fact that the attack was coming in from multiple sides, therefore making it much harder to dodge. “Chaos! If you can hear me, use your Shadow Sneak to get behind them and cause some mayhem with your Psychic blasts! I know you love doing it around the lab to catch my attention, so let’s try to put it to some actual good use!” Damian shouted; hoping that the ‘mon would be able to hear him—wherever the Ralts had vanished off to.
He then proceeded to turn his attention to his now-confused Rufflet, who was now walking around in drunken circles; having been hit by what felt like a ‘wall’ of Supersonic status-change attacks. “Kyouya! Can you hear me? Snap out of—“ he began to call out as he then watched the avian turn around full tail and faced him—before the little Flying-type seemingly closed the distance; but instead of unloading Aerial Ace on the wall of Venonat; it had turned the attack on him instead! “GAH!” he shouted out in pain as he quickly raised his hands; the better to protect himself from the brunt of the impact of the attack. Over at where the Ralts was headed, a lone shadow seemingly snaked right behind the wall of Venonat; before it ‘defied gravity’ and then materialized into a Ralts that was now evidently annoyed at what was going on.
After the initial burst of Shadow Sneak had caught the wall of Bug-types by surprise, the Ralts then raised its stubby little limbs and began to conjure up a large blob of near-invisible energy, which it then sent hurtling towards the solid ‘wall’ of Bug-types. All of this took place while the Rufflet was walking around in a crazed, Confused stupor—and had injured his owner in the process because of it. “Kyouya! I know that crazy screeching noise is making you do this! Don’t attack me—turn it on them!” he continued, pointing behind the avian—to where the wall of purple Bugs suddenly seemingly exploded; but in reality it was caused by the Ralts unleashing blast after blat of near-invisible, Psychic energy. The loud squealing, screaming noises then began to echo throughout the clearing; and the racket caught the bumbling avian’s attention.
He then watched as the Rufflet turned around silently, before quickly closing the distance and then unloading another attempt at Aerial Ace at the falling, dispersing wall of Bug-types. “There! That’s it! Keep it up! Try to turn that into a Sky Drop or two while you’re at it!” he shouted encouragingly, before catching sight of the small, stubby Ralts waving its limbs around and causing ‘explosions’ to happen all around it. “Chaos! Raise up that attack power of your Psychic with your Calm Mind, do it several times if you have to! Help Kyouya out here!” he added, clenching his fists. The wall of Bug-types had seemingly split off into several smaller ‘platoons’; and while the first two ‘groups’ of Venonat had fled, there were still several smaller bunches that were standing their ground.
The first remaining group of Venonat then proceeded to unleash a scattering storm of powder attacks—he didn’t know whether or not if it was Stun Spore, Poison Powder or Sleep Powder; but whatever it was, it was deadly and it was going to get out of hand if he didn’t do something about it! “Chaos! Take out this group first!” he shouted, pointing to the first platoon of bugs, which was now in the middle of brewing up another storm of powder-based attacks. At that same moment, a shadow came swooping down from out of the sky—and the formation was broken; simply because the Rufflet had come screeching from out of nowhere, snatching up one of the Venonat and going into the motions of Sky Drop! The sudden outburst of angry cries from the group of Bug-types caught his attention; as the Ralts then felt its power being boosted by some amount.
“Now! Unload those Psychic bombs that you keep chucking all over the lab!” he shouted in the Ralts’ direction—which it then obliged to, sending out consecutive blasts of the amped-up Psychic attack, having been boosted by Calm Mind. Several of the Venonat had taken it upon themselves to start using their own damaging attacks—in fact some had started unleashing Psybeam; while the others had resorted to blocking the blasts with their own version of Psychic—when it was at that point the Professor realized something; and very nearly flipped out about it. “Chaos! Don’t get too close to them! Especially when they start—“ he began to shout—before watching some of the more daring Venonat suddenly started biting the Ralts!
Now, he didn’t know if that was Leech Life or Poison Fang, all he knew was that at this point, getting his Chaos bitten by these things was going to be dangerous. “Kyouya! Pick up the pace! Use your Hone Claws and combine it with a Tailwind while you’re out of range, now!” he addressed at the incoming Ruffet, who’d just finished using Sky Drop on several of the unsuspecting bug-types. This the now-sensible Rufflet complied to, and the sound of claws being scraped against something hit his ears; before a sudden burst of wind picked up from behind where the Professor stood—the Tailwind covered all allies on the battlefield, it seemed. “Keep at it! Use your Hone Claws again, and then start the assault with your Aerial Ace while you can!” he added, before turning his attention back towards the Ralts, who was now crying out in pain.
“Chaos! Hang in there! Defend yourself with those Psychic blasts that you love so much!” he shouted encouragingly, hoping that the annoying Bug-types would eventually leave him alone. Again and again the pesky Bug-types attacked the little humanoid; and again and again it retaliated with boosted Psychic blasts; before it finally fell over from sheer exhaustion—it was completely spent! “Oh, shit,” was all he had time for before the remaining platoons of Venonat suddenly converged on the fallen Ralts; before a sudden blur shot by and began unloading Aerial Ace after Aerial Ace on the thickening pile of Bug-types that were itching to have a go at the fallen Ralts. “Go! Get Chaos out of there!” he shouted; not knowing that he was already running forward, the better to be able to save the poor humanoid ‘mon.
“RUFFLEEEEEEET!” the Flying-type squawked out, still unloading as many applications of Aerial Ace as he could manage; the better to get rid of the pile of Venonats that were attempting to literally kill the Ralts. The bugs were flying everywhere; and eventually, there were two left from the entire pile that had converged as one. “Keep at it!” he shouted, finally scooping up the fainted Ralts in his hands and watching as the avian took care of the rest of the legwork; closing the distance and delivering successive Aerial Ace blows to the two remaining Venonats that hadn’t run away yet. “Chaos… hey, are you okay?” he began softly, touching the small ‘mon’s head, hoping that the little one was a tough fighter—and several moments later, a strangled warble emanated from the thing in his hands. “Ra—“ the small Ralts began, before Damian made several shushing noises.
“RUFFLET!” the Flying-type squawked; catching his attention sometime later, showing his owner two exhausted, passed-out bugs that were lying by his feet. “Kyouya, that was overkill… but thank you,” he said quietly, withdrawing two empty PokeBalls and dropping them on the two Venonat, watching as they were sucked up in a flash of red light...

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Okay, so there was a Venonat swarm out there. One that Yumi had a few buyers up for so she could get some extra money and maybe buy Josh a genuine, albeit VERY late birthday present. The possibility was there, odds were she could sell them for good prices too...there was just one itsy bitty little problem she was having a lot of trouble getting over.
Much like Solrock, Yumi could not stand the little BUGgers eyes!
"Okay, so er...I'mma be staying on the side lines here you two." Both of the pokemon Yumi had brought with her today tilted their head with a mild level of confusion, wondering why there trainer seemed so frightened on what was supposed to be their first real training day. They looked to eachother with the same expression, exchanging looks before just shrugging together, or rather, the dratini would have if he could. The sassy Pichu Lucia seemed to put in the extra effort for the two of them with a turn of her head back to Yumi that would have likely looked amazing if she had any hair. Even now Yumi had to look at her two little fem pokemon as she wondered if it was truly the best idea not to back them up with Ko-ken or Tequill for their first trip out, especially since she'd essentially be letting them go off and do their own thing. They'd be fine though...right?
"Okay so er....you'll come find me when you have some venonat to bring in right?" The pokemon nodded, and quickly proceeded to nod at one another before running off, leaving Yumi behind, about to call out to them and leave some advice, before realizing with a sigh that they'd likely never listen to her anyway. Falling back onto her rear, all she could do was watch as the two little tykes ran into the woods, ready to dive in after them if they got into any trouble.
The moment the two hit the depths of the woods they began to move at a much slower pace, carefully watching the trees and bushes around them as they crawled along the grass, Lucia lifting her fluffy ear to the sound of some rustling in a nearby push, and putting out a paw to stop her dragon comrade. "Pichu-Pi!" Maria took a curious look herself, their own halt seeming to trigger more motions in the bushes, each pokemon getting ready for battle in their own way. Lucia's cheeks crackled with a spark of energy as Maria wiggled her body with a pre-emptive dragon dance, each one ready to get this over and done with. A shadow leaped from the bushes, the silhouette of a pokemon, and both of the smaller creatures reacted on a trigger, shutting their eyes closed as Lucia unleashed thunderbolts in almost every direction, only a few actually focused on her target, while Maria whipped her tail back and forth with the speed of her priority move, each one crying out their species name as they tried to end the threat before it actually became one, panting and gasping for air as they heard a thud signal that the threat had most likely been knocked down.
"Pi-Pi?" Lucia was the first to open her eyes, immediately jumping back with a sorry look on her face, soon followed by Maria herself as the two realized they had taken out a rather innocent little Aipom, something they shouldn't have even been targeting! The two were quick to rush over it to ensure it was okay, soon realizing it was KO'd and letting out regretful sighs. Lucia's fist shook in the direction of Maria, shouting her name and blaming the dragon, saying it was her super fast tail that must have been the blame. The dragon could only roll her eyes. Her deep knowledge of the berries she tended to gorge herself on let her know what was the true cause of the Aipom's condition. Neither pokemon was in fact capable of taking down a threat that quickly. Instead, she simply pointed to the aipom's cheeks with the tip of her tail, indicating the purple tone that signified a poison condition, one she knew could be cured by a pecha berry. Ordering the Pichu to go fetch one, seeing as she had to be punished for accusing her friend, Maria turned to tending to the aipom, a huffing Lucia leaping back into the bushes in search of the berry they needed.
"Pi-Pi-Piiiiii..." Grumbling to herself, she moved through the bushes, following the plants through the forest that would hopefully show her where the pecha bush was, smiling brightly as she soon found it and rushing towards it herself, her tiny tail swaying back and forth as she took one from the bush and decided to take a nibble herself, enjoying the sweet taste of the pink fruit before gathering as many as she could in her arms, ready to trudge on back as a familiar sound, or rather more so, a familiar name, met her fluffy ears.
"Veeeenonat!"
Freezing on the spot, not daring to turn around lest she spot the purple fuzz balls that had practically cornered her to the bush, Lucia took a long, deep gulp, before her whole body ignited with electricity, a thunder wave pulsing from her feet and shocking several of the venonat behind her! With quick feet she ran between them, her smaller frame allowing her to escape, and leaving her with the un-paralyzed Venonat chasing her, now even more angry with the intruder to their territory. Leaping over the bush to where her friend stood, lucia cried out for help, nearly squishing all the Pecha berries beneath her as she tripped over the tip of the bush, the Venonat quick to follow, spewing a vile, poisonous fog of spores towards out towards the two small pokemon, Lucia quivering and covering her mouth in preparation for the poison, only to be met with shock as the purple cloud seemed to simply warp around both her and Maria, even their new aipom friend was safe from a secondary dose of poison. Lucia was left confused, until she recalled the safeguard of her draconic pal Maria, the Dratini giving a chuckling grin in return as the two pokemon prepared to retaliate on the 3 venonat they now faced, chuckling quietly to themselves as they got back in that battle stance they held before, only now, they were FAR more confident!
The first move was chosen with ease. Dashing between them, maria slapped her tail at extreme speeds to dispers the three Venonat, all the while her buddy Lucia thinking up quite the nasty plot.~ With her skills boosting with the dark little thoughts this naughty Pichu had, she ran to the nearest tree, climbing it with ease as her little paws gripped the bark and soon reached one of the highest branches, followed by her buddy Maria thanks to the dragon's extreme speed, headbutting eachother lightly in replacement of the high five they would never be able to have. The Venonat, angered by the stolen berries, the paralysation of their friends, and now the attacks they had received, where quick to retaliate, each one preparing a psybeam between their antennae, ready to blast the psionic beams forth when an odd little wink from the charming Lucia had them all freeze, blushing beneath their purple fuzz, confused by the sudden change their foe had displayed.
Taking her opportunity, Lucia struck the three Venonat with a nasty dote of thunderbolt each, giggling like a maniac as the charge passed through her, jolting the dazed venonant and quickly returning their anger, rushing towards the tree but soon finding themselves unable to climb, only coming up with another, rather unorthodox solution, piling atop one another and forming a Venonant tower, awkwardly swaying back and forth as their tiny arms made to make scrapes towards the branch Lucia and Maria found themselves on. Seeming entirely unimpressed with the display, they simply sighed to one another as Lucia gestured to the tower for Maria to destroy, the dragon taking a bow and happily leaping up, nosediving into the tower of fuzzballs, scattering them and knocking them about with absolute ease, leaving a rather proud Maria standing amidst scattered, unconscious poison types, casually picking up a dropped pecha berry and moving to feed it to the weak Aipom, signalling for Lucia to rush off and find Yumi, a task the Pichu performed post haste.
