POKÉMON TOURNAMENT EXHIBITION MATCHES Without further delay, here they are! The day has come. With as much promotion as possible, the League Exhibition Matches were set to begin today in Nue. The wilderness surrounding the Ranger Station seems to be have been tamed by the loyal rangers stationed in Nue in preparation, and people are flocking to the area to fill up the grand stands. For those unable to make the journey, the cameras are rolling - ready to capture every bit of the battle! Screens larger than life circle the arena to display all the relevant battle statistics, and the arena itself is standard League decor. Once you've shuffled pass the popcorn vendors and taken a seat, you're treated to the clear voice of the announcer, who preps the crowd in a display of engaging speech and gets everyone ready for the upcoming matches. Behind the scenes, the two getting ready to battle are waiting in their own rooms - all the kind of preparations one could wish for in the world and more. Once the time has come, the contestants are announced and introduced as the enter the field, taking up their places on each end. The referees then explain the rules for the crowd and the match begins! This will be a 3v3 Singles battle, substitutions allowed. BATTLE RULINGS- One mega evolution will be allowed per character per match. However, it should be noted that all matches will be broadcasted in regional television, and so anything participants do will have site-wide implications.
- Failure to reply to your match within 72 hours will result in disqualification, unless prior notification has been given.
- All battles will be constantly looked over and reviewed by our battle coaches to avoid unfair methods or power playing. Minor faults will be treated as the yellow cards of a soccer game, and three minor faults will accumulate into a red card, or disqualification.
- Battle calculations must be done with Pokémon Showdown's calculator, and each post must include a detailed battle summary. Examples can be found here.
A step-by-step guide to Showdown's Calculator can be found here.[newclass=".match a"]font-family:inherit;font-size:inherit;line-height:inherit;[/newclass][newclass="#vs"]text-shadow:-3px 0 #000,0 3px #000,3px 0 #000,0 -3px #000;[/newclass]

bittersweet. Oh shit it was finally time. Shit shit shit. What was he even doing agreeing to this sort of thing? He didn't want to be broadcasted across the entire region battling against someone who was way more experienced than he was. His team wasn't nearly good enough for this sort of thing. He was only allowed three Pokemon in his team and besides the obvious it had taken him awhile to pick the other two Pokemon. Figuring he should cover his bases he grabbed the other two that were pretty easy to cover with their dual types. Now he was here though and he needed to at least pretend he was as confident as a gym leader should be. After all these matches were just for show and there would be plenty of people knocked out in the first round.
There was no shame in being knocked out early, he just didn't want to be one of the ones that were. He didn't want to be one of the weaker looking gym leaders since bugs already had a reputation of being easy to beat. Shit what the fuck was he doing here. There was no way for him to back out now though. He was here and he could hear the music starting. Gross, it was jock jams. His Dad used to play them around the house to annoy his other Dad whenever he wouldn't wash the dishes or whenever he slept in too late. It caused him to relax a little bit with the familiarity of that memory. Well,it stopped him from throwing up on national tv anyways so that was enough of a blessing from him.
Wait hold on... No he was good. Taking a swill of water from the water bottle he'd dragged with him he hoped that it would calm his stomach enough so that he could focus on the match. He wasn't even sure which of his Pokemon he was going to send out. Maab was the obvious choice but did he really want to start the match out with his only evolved Pokemon? Aveline would be able to cover more weaknesses but she was only a larvesta and he wasn't even sure why he'd chosen Bubbles over one of the other Pokemon he had. Maybe because he thought having a water type Pokemon around would be useful.
He needed to start psyching himself up for the battle instead of pulling himself down. He'd never win if he kept thinking he was automatically going to lose. Rubbing his face he pushed his glasses back up after jarring them a little off the bridge of his nose. Continuing up he ran a hand through his hair and relaxed his shoulders. He could do this... Stepping into position he tried to look more confident than he felt, or at least back to his stoic demeanor. If he didn't show that he was going to throw up then it would make this entire thing easier. |

[attr="class","shadowshoverlefticon"] Words: 616 Tags: Garrus Gregor@character @character Template by Kuroya of THQ & GS. | For what seemed like the millionth time, Zelda checked herself in the full-length mirror, making miniscule adjustments to her appearance that only she probably noticed. Perhaps it was simply empty gestures to cover her nervousness, but it was a routine that was familiar to her and therefore calmed her nerves. In all honesty she didn’t really enjoy being so painstakingly detailed about how she presented herself, but as someone who vowed to set an example for others she needed to preserve the image she had created. That meant that she needed to look her best whenever she was in public, and today in particular –the League was hosting exhibition matches between Gym Leaders and naturally she was among the first to sign up. The matches were being broadcast across the region, and she needed to look perfect.
Appearances aside, this battle would be a challenging one; while she didn’t know much about her opponent, one Garrus Gregor, she did know two things for certain: he was relatively new and inexperienced in terms of his position, and that his Gym’s was the Bug-type. This put both of them in a difficult position, as neither type was particularly effective against the other. However, Zelda anticipated situations like these and taught her Pokemon other types of moves to compensate.
Looking past her reflection, the Gym Leader took note of the trio of Pokemon behind her. The rules only allowed her 3 Pokemon, so she went with the members of her team that had either reached their final form or were unable to evolve (her reasoning being that such Pokemon had an easier time getting stronger): Barkley, her Breloom and longest-standing partner, was ducking and weaving as it shadow boxed with an imaginary opponent; Jordan, her Hawlucha, was hopping from foot to foot in an attempt to loosen up; Malone, her recently-hatched Heracross and the youngest member of her team, was pacing back and forth.
Zelda took a deep breath, turned around, and walked over to the young bug-type. “Listen, Malone,” she said gently, laying a gloved hand on the Heracross, “don’t worry about the crowd. Don’t worry about whatever may happen out there. So what you’re young? Just focus on what you can do and the sound of my voice, okay? Whatever happens out there, just know that I’ll be proud of you.”
Malone looked up into its trainer’s emerald eyes, and the Flash City resident could see that her words had an effect on it –she was its trainer, its leader, its family. So long as she believed in it, nothing mattered. The dual-type closed its eyes and took a deep breath. When those eyes opened, there was a spark of determination within them. The Gym Leader smiled at seeing her words’ effect, and then stood up. “Let’s kick some ass out there, yeah?” a distinctive grin broke across her previously stone-like visage, and her hand formed a thumbs-up.
In unison the three Pokemon nodded, a gesture that their trainer returned before returning them to their Pokeballs. The festivities were already under way, and her opponent’s name had just been called. Schooling her expression back into one of hard confidence, Zelda stepped out into the open just as her name was called to take her place on vacant side of the field.
“Let’s make this an entertaining match!” her distinctive voice seemed to cut through the outside noise of the crowd and announcer. “May the best Gym Leader win!” And with that, she plucked a Pokeball from her metallic belt and tossed it onto the field. The orb split open to reveal a green bipedal Pokemon.
“Breloom!” the creature cried towards the heavens, hopping from foot to foot.

bittersweet. Oh shit fuck his opponent was out here now. She was intimidating and he felt like he was going to throw the fuck up again. But he couldn't. No not now. He was on national tv and there was no way he was going to let everyone see that he was such a nervous wreck that he couldn't even handle a friendly match against another gym leader. That would be fucking ridiculous. She looked intimidating though. She looked like the kind of person that would step on your hand and then expect a thank you whenever she finally decided to release it. But that wasn't really fair. Sure she looked like that but they were all league employees so there wasn't any real reason for them to be hostile towards one another. This wasn't something that he needed to freak out about. Just because she was more experienced didn't mean he wouldn't have dumb luck on his side, or at least a partial type advantage over a couple of her Pokemon.
Grabbing his Pokeball he nodded towards her and gave the faintest hint of a smile. "Let's try and have fun okay?" He managed to say it without choking or his voice squeaking so he would count that as a victory. If only he felt half as assured as he sounded, that would be great. Releasing the Pokemon he chose from her Pokeball he figured it would be his best bet to start off strong. Maab buzzed as she floated around his side of the field. He'd told her that they were going to battle in a special event today but she had no idea there would be so many people. It was so different than battling at home... "Focus Maab, we can do this. Its just for fun." He knew that his opponent could swap out Pokemon at any time but he was hoping that he would at least have a little bit of a chance to maybe take out one of her Pokemon with his. Just one Pokemon taken out and he would consider it successful. After all having little goals mattered.
Her buzzing settled and she stared at their opponent as well. She didn't like taking battles just for fun but if that's what they were doing then so be it. That didn't mean that she couldn't still go hard. Every battle was training for the big leagues and you didn't get much bigger than being broadcasted on tv in front of the entire region. "Alright, A and A tactic lets go. Keep your wings moving." They didn't have as extensive of a move pool as some of the other trainers that had been at this longer but that didn't mean there were no tricks up their sleeves. Maab knew exactly what he meant whenever he said A and A. They were going to go for the quick and painless route this time. Wings buzzing angrily they seemed to conjure up a dust cloud that buzzed just as loudly.
The Attack Order move was a loud and noisy one that most of the time annoyed the piss out of Garrus just because he heard enough buzzing on a day to day basis. Today however it worked well for what he needed as it did any other day he had to fight. While it was always hopeful that the attack would it it wasn't the main part of the A and A combo. Following closely behind the large cloud attack Garrus hoped that Maab could sneak in with the Air Slash. It was a sneak tactic and one that he hoped they wouldn't be expecting right off the bat. If she could then one Pokemon would be down and he would be able to count his small victories. He wasn't sure what his opponent had in store but he knew that if they didn't stay on their toes it would be horrible. |
