"Gotta get home in time..." Josh muttered as he started heading through the wilds, where the In-Progress Ranch was still being built. He had promised his mother he would be there for New Years, as well as Izumi, and while there was still an hour or so left, he had to hurry and get there! Josh rushed, with Lightning behind him, through the Wilds, with snow falling above him, with snow crunching under his feet. But no way in hell, could this man, this weather defeat. Nothing could defeat him before he could get there to spend with his family!
Josh took a breath as he would stop to take a breather. He would grab a canteen of water from his pack and hand it to Lightning to drink, before taking a drink himself. Lightning would nod in appreciation before they continued walking. "Excited, Lightning?" Josh would ask with a small smile. "Pikachu!" Lightning chirped in response.

Of course, it wasn't going to be that easy. A Gulpin would suddenly come over, trying to suck up the water bottle. When Lightning yanked it back, the Gulpin would get angry and shoot Gastro Acid toward Lightning. "Lightning, look out!" Josh called as Lightning would dodge out of the way. Consulting his imaginary PokeDex, Josh found... Well, nothing. He didn't even have time to Google it. But he knew enough to know that it was a Gulpin. And it wasn't a happy gulper. "Go, Lamorak!" Josh called as he brought out his Piplup. "PIIIP-LUP!" He let out proudly as he would be ready to attack Gulpin. Lamorak seemed more pumped then usual. After his rival, Lancelott had evolved before, he was determined to do the same. He would not be defeated. He would not be bested. He could NOT be beaten! "Agility, Hydro Pump!" Josh called in succession. "PIPLUUUUUUUP!" Lamorak called as his speed increased mid-charge as he went for Gulpin. "Jump!" Josh called as the Piplup would leap into the air. "Do it, now!" Josh called as the Pipkup would let out a nasty Hydro Pump that hit Gulpin dead on. As it recovered though, it would shoot a Toxic to the mid-air Piplup. "Dodge!" Josh called as the Piplup would weave through the air to dodge the attack... Only for it to suddenly home in on Lamorak!
"Gah, that's right! Poison types never miss with Toxic!" Josh thought, gritting his teeth. "Quick, counter it with Hydro Pump!" Josh would call. "PIIIIP-LU-U-U-U-U-P" He let out as he let loose a big Hydro Pump that hit it dead on. "Hurry, gut it with Drill Peck!" Josh called. "Put some spin into it, and use Whirlpool as well!" He added. Lamorak would nod, summoning a Whirlpool that would begin spinning around itself as it's beak would begin spinning as would Lamorak, colliding with Gulpin, trapping it in the vortex as Lamorak would slam into it with Drill Peck.
"Agility, Drill Peck again!" Josh called as Lamorak would swim inside the vortex, barely dodging a Gastro Acid that had been fired by Gulpin via sheer luck from the currents of the Whirlpool, his beak spinning as he smashed and drilled into Gulpin again, sending it out of the vortex and to the ground.
Josh knew what to do as he quickly threw a Pokeball.

"Alright!" Josh said, raising a fist in the air as Lamorak would leap into the air. "PIPLUUUP!" He chirped happily, flapping his wings in joy. Suddenly, Josh's Dewott, Lancelott would pop out of his Pokemon. "Dewott!" He said, crossing his arms. He didn't seem impressed. "PIPLUUUU-UP!" Lamorak chirped angrily, obviously not happy with the Dewott trying to ruin his moment. Josh let out a groan as the two started arguing again. Of course their rivalry would kick up again.
"PIIIIIPLUUUUUUUUUUP!" Lamorak suddenly screamed before he would be engulfed in a white light. "Huh?" Josh let out, looking over. "... Dewott?" Lancelott let out, surprised. The Piplup would begin to change in front of their very eyes. "Whoa, Lamorak's evolving!" Josh said, taking a breath. The glow would fade and Lamorak would emerge as a Primplup!
"Primplup!" Lamorak let out proudly, patting his chest with a cocky grin, eying Lancelott with a "What do you think of me now?" look. Josh groaned as Lancelott would roll his eyes. "DEWOTT!" He said, pointing at him. That wasn't fair! "Happy New Year, Lamorak" Josh said with a small smile as he would return the two to their Pokeballs. He was glad that Lamorak had evolved, and their little rivalry was now even.
Alright, time to head out, he thought. But a Plusle would suddenly crash into Lightning. "Plus! Plusle!" It chirped angrily. Seems it wasn't happy with Lightning for accidentally hitting it. Josh let out a sigh. Seems it wasn't going to let them through, and time was running out. One of his Pokeballs would suddenly open though, bringing out the unlikely Charon, his Gastley. "Gasssssstleeeeey!" He let out, seeming to want to help smooth this out. He would float down to Plusle and try to talk it down, only for Plusle to suddenly use Growl, then start sobbing using Fake Tears, only to use Play Nice on Charon, and then Last Resort on Charon. Charon would start sobbing, and Josh would sigh. "Alright Charon, don't cry. We need to calm Plusle down.... Use Hex!" Josh would call.
"GAST!" Charon would suddenly respond, sending a Hex the way of Plusle, hitting it hard. Plusle would get up, not happy, and go for Last Resort again, with it seeming to be the only attack move it knew. This time, Charon would dodge. "Charon, Hypnosis!" Josh would call. "GASSSSSTLEEEEY!" He let out as that unmistakable sound would let out as the beam hit Plusle. It would struggle to stay awake, but finally it would fall asleep. "Alright, now use Hex again!" he called as Charon would hit Plusle with a beam that doubled it's damage due to the status ailment. "Now, use Nightmare!" He called. The Gastley would flash for a moment before the Plusle would begin thrashing around a bit in pain. Of course, Josh felt bad for this. How couldn't he? It seemed like torture. "Gah... Use Hex again!" Josh called. He would respond by shooting the beam at Plusle again, sending it flying back while it continued to sleep.
"Another Hex, Charon!" He would command. "Gast!" He responded as he would slam another beam toward Plusle. Finally, Plusle would wake up, woozy, and in pain. "Finish it with one more Hex!" Josh called. Plusle was too weak to stop the Hex that came from Charon, and it would slam into a rock from the attack, falling to the ground as Josh tossed a Pokeball at it.

Once again, they had managed to pull off the big whopper and caught another Pokemon. It hadn’t been Josh’s intention to go hunting for Pokemon as he was heading “home” for the New Years countdown, b it had happened. He just hoped he would get home in time.
“Come on, let’s go!” Josh said as they would keep running, the Pokeball disappearing into thin air, and going back to the Ranch. Surely, his mother would be wondering why the hell Pokeballs were being transported at this time of night, when Josh was SUPPOSED to be on his way home! Both Lightning and Charon would run behind him, well, Charon floated behind him. Josh noticed he was lagging behind a little. “Here Charon, return! You can rest when we get back! You did great!” He said as he returned Charon to his Pokeball.
But there was no rest for the weary, as Josh would have to back away from a Drowzee as it would suddenly fire a Psybeam at them! This one seemed unhappy with them being in it’s territory, as had become a habit. Josh cursed himself for taking a shortcut home through the wilds. So many Pokemon!
“Go, Rex!” Josh called as he would send out his Larvitar. “Lar!” Rex would call as he would quickly get ready for attack. But Drowzee was ready for it, nailing him with a Psybeam and sending him flying. “Rex!” Josh called as he watched him fly through the air. “Larrrrr!” Rex would suddenly let out, being enveloped in a bright light. Another evolution?
He would return from this light state as a Pupitar! “Alright, Rex! You evolved!” Josh called happily as Rex would land on his…. Feet? Or whatever counted, before he began floating a bit. “Pupitar!” Rex let out as he would suddenly fire stones from Stone Edge at Drowzee, catching it unawares and nailing it head on! “Alright Rex, keep it up! Stone Edge!” Josh called as Rex would unleash another set of spinning spiky stones that would shoot toward Drowzee, hitting it and hitting it good! But Drowzee wasn’t taking this lying down, it would go for Swagger. “Dodge!” Josh called. “Pupitar!” Rex responded as he would quickly dodge the attack. “Crunch!” He would add as he got close, and with some rather rough fangs would sink into the Drowzee. The Drowzee would cry out in pain, but hit him with Psybeam from close range to send him off. “Quick, use Earthquake!” Josh called as he and Lightning got to high ground. Rex would nod before slamming into the ground, causing a large Earthquake that would hit the Drowzee hard. “Finish it with Rock Slide!” Josh called. “Pupitar!” He called as he would unleash the portals that would drop large and rough boulders onto the Drowzee, KOing it for the time being.
Josh would take a breath and toss a Pokeball. Hopefully this would be the end of it!

Josh would nod in approval as the Drowzee would be caught, nodding toward his Pupitar. "Great job, Rex!" Josh said as he would watch the Pokeball disappear. "Pupitar!" Rex let out as Josh would motion for him to follow. "Come on, Rex! We gotta get going!" He called as he would break into a run, Lightning on his shoulder and Rex floating by his side. Unfortunately, Josh would end up crashing into a wandering Lickitung, and fall back. "Gah!" Josh said as he got up, Lightning still clinging to his side. "Sorry Lickitung!" Josh said as he would keep running. Lickitung wasn't having any of it though, and would try to whip Josh with his tongue as he tried to run again. "Whoa!" Josh called, as Rex would quickly use Stone Edge, summong stones around his body before shooting them at Lickitung to keep it from harming his Trainer.
Josh would nod over at Rex. "Alright, Rex! Use Stone Edge, again!" Josh called as Rex would... Nod, I guess? Or whatever a Pupitar does to nod before summoning the sharp rocks again and firing them the way of Lickitung, who would dodge and shoot a Supersonic. "Dodge!" Josh would call as Rex would quickly dodge the attack.
"Crunch!" Josh called as his phone would start ringing. The Pupitar would slam it's fangs into Lickitung as Josh would answer the phone, holding it to his ear as he watched the battle. "Hello?" He would answer, setting the phone on speaker before calling out "Dodge!" to Rex as he would quickly dodge another attempt at Supersonic.
"JOSHUA PHILIP DRAGOMIR, WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!? WHY ARE POKEBALLS FILLED WITH POKEMON APPEARING IN MY LAB AND WHY ARE YOU NOT HOME YET?! THE COUNTDOWN IS IN A HALF HOUR!" Someone, Josh's mother Serena, would scream from the other end of the phone, causing Josh to wince audibly. "I know, I know! I'm on my way home! Just ran into some trouble!" Josh would answer, pleading the fifth to the judge and jury. "I'm in the Wilds, I just need to get past this Lickitung and I'll be right there!" He promised. "I'm almost home!"
"Use Earthquake!" Josh would call as he would hop onto a boulder. The Pupitar would slam itself into the ground, releasing a shockwave that would hit Lickitung hard. It would suddenly respond by using Wrap to wrap it's tongue around Rex, squeezing it hard. "YOU BETTER HURRY UP, MR. DRAGOMIR! I AM NOT HAPPY!" She screamed from the other end. "Yeah, yeah, I know, just lemme finish this and I'll be right there! Bye!" Josh said as he would hang up, but not before "I'M NOT HAPPY RIGHT NOW! YOU'RE KEEPING IZUMI WAITING!" from the other end, then click.
Yeah... He supposed he had kept Izumi Yamamura waiting as well. Whoops. But he was going through the Wilds, this kind of thing was going to happen. "Break out by using Earthquake, then Stone Edge!" Josh would call to Rex, who would summon the shovewave again, sending Lickitung flying before the portals of large sharp rocks would appear and drop them on Lickitung, sending it to the ground. Josh would quickly toss the Pokeball...
. . . ! Congratulations, Rachel's nightmareLickitung was caught! One Pokeball must be removed from your inventory! Get your ass home Josh, don't keep the girls waiting!

"Haha!" Josh said as the ball would click and disappear. "Alright, we're almost home" He said as he looked toward Rex. "Return!" He called as he would return Rex to his Pokeball. "Come on, Lightning! We gotta go!" He said as Lightning would hang onto his shoulder and they'd take off at a run.
Finally, the ranch would be in sight and Josh would head to his mother's house... Lab... House. Serena would scowl at him as he would enter. "Where have you been?" She demanded. "Izumi and me and have been waiting for you!" She said. Josh sighed and scratched his head. His mother almost never got mad at him, but when it came to being rude to guests, especially an important one like Izumi...
"Well... You see, we got attacked by a few Wild Pokemon. I was in the middle of a battle when you called" He explained. Serena sighed, her gaze softening and she nodded. "Can't be helped, I suppose" She said. "Izumi! He's here!" She would call to the other room.

Izumi was already waiting over at the Dragomirs’, and already had the food all but served and ready when she heard Serena suddenly shouting form the other room. She was actually wondering just where the hell Josh was; but only because it was already New Year’s Eve and that he was nowhere to be seen! Knowing that he could be out in the world somewhere (or worse, dead in a ditch) she decided to leave things to his mother to handle; and chuckled rather loudly as she started screaming into the phone she’d grabbed earlier. Wondering if he’d hightail it home now that his mother had issued the ultimatum, she then proceeded to set up the table for three, while trying to hold in her temper. Where the hell is he, anyway?! She thought to herself with a rather cross look on her face as she slammed some plates down into position.
After she’d managed to set up the entire table and had gotten the food all laid out, she then proceeded to the living room, where she knew that Serena’s Arcanine was standing guard. Ever since she’d began to drop by more frequently, this Arcanine was getting more and more used to having her around—because for starters, he didn’t jump up on her and attempt to pin her down to the ground. She then gave him a hearty petting session, before another shout interrupted her thoughts—and the good session. “Alright, alight, I’m coming! Thanks for the heads-up!” she shouted back, before telling the Arcanine that she’d be right back and proceeded to the front of the entryway, placing her hands on her hips at the sight of him looking all messed up.
“Josh, you know I don’t like waiting, where the hell have you been?! It’s New Year’s Eve and your mum’s been waiting for you! She was beside herself…” she commented, before huffing in his direction and then smacking him lightly upside the head.
