News about Pokemon Swarms were a popular subject in the media, often trending whenever certain species went out of their way to become city pests, which was usually why Danny didn’t feel so bad catching a few extra swarm Pokemon to reduce the problem. The Relicanth swarm didn't make the news at all, save for the occasional fishing channel that aired in cities like Bayonandaville, but eventually word crawled towards Danny’s ears at a Slowbro’s pace when he happened to stumble upon a subreddit for Pokemon swarms, and the more Danny clicked on the various images of the swarm, the more curious he got. Relicanth was the kind of Pokemon that collectors loved to get their hands on due to their fossil-esque appearance, and in Danny’s personal opinion, they all looked like a bunch of grumpy old grandpas turned into Pokemon form. It got him thinking to himself what he’d even do if he caught one. Probably name it ‘Foxy Grandpa’ for a couple of days, play with it a bit, then sell it to someone that was too lazy to catch their own. It was a sound plan in Danny’s mind, and after skimming a few success stories that were posted online, he made a few comments about how he planned on catching some of the biggest ones out there, and eventually signed off when his replies were ignored.
It wasn’t his first time in the Wilds, but because the place took up such a massive part of the Nue region, the Wilds still felt new and unfamiliar, demanding Danny to take notice of each time the roads twisted and branched off, giving him more options than he cared to remember. Of course he planned on exploring all of it at some point in his long life, but right now, not knowing where he was going was starting to get a little frustrating. “’Kay. I’m not the best fish tracker around, so I’m relying on you guys to figure out where this mystical Relicanth river is.” Assigned to the task were the best trackers in his possession, which included a tracker-in-training, and the two pups barked in affirmation while the living vegetable monkey gave a casual salute at the command. Picking his Herdier and Poochyena to cover the ground felt like the obvious choice, since his hound dogs stood a better chance at sniffing out fresh water than Danny ever did. His newest addition to the team, a recently hatched Poochyena, courtesy of Amber and Fang, barked and dashed ahead in his excitement, totally ditching the older Herdier in the dust. Leeroy wasn’t going to stand for it, and with a worried whinny, he dashed after the Poochyena with his nose occasionally dipping itself into the snow, intent on staying close on the little guy’s trail.
Pansage was assigned to keep an eye out from the trees, whether the hounds ended up running so far they got lost, or if the swarm was really that easy to spot from an aerial view. If all else failed and everyone in the search crew got lost, Danny planned on sending out Larry as a last resort. And Larry really was a last resort, because if he needed to resort to his freaking Pelipper to herd everyone back to where they started, then that was a sad day for everybody.
It didn’t take too long for the Danny pack to start howling with success, and Pansage glided from branch to branch, motioning for Danny to follow close behind him so he wouldn’t end up any more lost than the rest of them were. ”Good work, crew.” Danny wheezed and allowed his tired body to sink to the ground after finding the two gleeful pups swimming around in the freezing river water as if it was some kind of free-for-all swimming pool. They were doing a fine enough job of scaring most of the Relicanth off, which was the opposite of what Danny wanted, so he whistled and kicked his head back, motioning for them to regroup so he could figure out a battle plan.
“So…now we actually have to catch some.” He was having a hard time staying still while thinking out loud, so Danny’s hands often frequented his arms and neck, scratching at whatever he could reach until he balled one of his hands into a fist and slammed it against his open palm. ”Obviously we have to get them out of the water. Then they won’t stand a chance! Well, unless they happen to sprout legs and become professional fish kick boxers…but that won’t happen. Probably.” Yeah, probably. His trio of fuzzy heads nodded at the plan, following along so far, but Danny was left with another question; how was he supposed to get them out of the water? Sure didn’t sound like an easy task, and the Relicanth weren’t going to willingly jump out of the water unless something propelled them with the proper motivation. ”I guess scaring them out is an option. They’re water types, so they probably won’t like your Thunder Fang, Barx. Using that on the water might aggravate them, but whatever you do, don’t attack them directly.” Wiggling his finger at the Poochyena to engrave the command deep into his vision, the Poochyena’s first reaction was to back up and glance back at the river, before giving his trainer an affirming nod. ”I’m thinking…letting Sa-lad scoop them out with Acrobatics. We’ll work around that from there, 'kay?” It wasn’t one of Danny’s most creative plans, but it was the first one that popped into his head, and he didn’t want to waste too much time reflecting on each of his options.
[ VS. POOCHYENA, HERDIER, & PANSAGE ]
The plan was initiated when Danny rustled Barx’s fur and shoved him into a sprint towards the river, giving the newly hatched Poochyena a chance to exercise his teeth by charging up his teeth with static electricity and sending the tingling current straight into the river. The attack wasn’t particularly damaging to the Relicanth that were swimming by, but a few of the braver ones attempted to swim closer in an attempt to pacify the Poochyena with a brief Water Gun. Seeing how they were dealing with a mere puppy, they didn’t intend on going overboard unless the situation proved excessive force to be necessary. Karl Barx growled and yipped in surprise at the sudden splash, frantically backing away as the Relicanth chuckled in amusement at how quickly he backed out. <You weren’t practicing, were you?> Leeroy shook his head in sympathy as the Poochyena flopped back onto his feet, determined to get those pesky fish back after teasing him like that. So Leeroy decided to be a little sneaky and lend the Poochyena a Helping Hand by slyly patting the Poochyena on the back as if he merely intended to give him some words of encouragement. <That’s alright. Just consider that a practice run. A rough draft, if you will. Give it another shot. Keep trying.> The Herdier’s gruff voice was encouraging on its own, but when paired with the boost of the Helping Fang, Barx eagerly dashed back towards the river and dipped his head into the water with another shocking Thunder Fang, this time managing to do the intended damage to the three Relicanth that decided to stick around.
<And here’s where I come in. Allllly-oop!> While the Relicanth were focused on escaping the electrified currents by leaping out of the water in a panicked frenzy, Danny’s Pansage took that as his cue to time his Acrobatics to hop on one Relicanth to kick another onto shore, managing to scoop out at least two of the main three by the time he landed on the damp grass. As for the third Relicanth, Sa-lad did a little improvisation by digging into his head bush for a fresh seed, straight off the vine, and after yanking the stem out with his teeth, the Seed Bomb was free to fling into the water, causing a small explosion that managed to send the third Relicanth flopping frantically on top of his brethren. So far so good, Danny thought as his three Pokemon prepared to face off against the splashing Relicanth.
This would’ve been a good time to get Barx some experience, but before Danny could mutter his next command, the Poochyena was already rushing towards one of the Relicanth with another Thunder Fang. “Hey! At least wait for your cue! You’re gonna get KO’d, dude!” When it didn’t look as if shouting was capable of stopping the pup in his tracks, Danny snapped his fingers and glared at the Herdier to round him up. It wasn’t one of Leeroy’s favorite jobs, but he was the designated puppy sitter, so it was his job to jump in front of Barx’s tracks and calm two of the Relicanth down with his Baby-Doll Eyes. Unfortunately for Leeroy, he didn’t have enough time to focus on weakening the third one, who promptly retaliated with a Mud Sport, managing to fling globs of mud mixed with mucus all over the place, staining fur and clothes alike until the three Relicanth exchanged cheeky grins and washed most of it off with a chilling Water Gun. One of them even managed to let out a Yawn afterwards, stretching its mouth wiiiiiide open as Sa-lad attempted to get in close with another Acrobatics, diving straight into the yawn cloud in his haste. Drowsiness didn’t take long to settle over the Pansage’s eyes, and soon the living Vegietale was swaying from side to side, resisting a few yawns of his own as he threw a Seed Bomb into a Relicanth’s face and pretended it wasn’t such a big deal to the other two by playfully hopping around with a Play Nice.
It was an odd tactic from Danny’s perspective, but he wasn’t about to argue when he was too busy focusing on Leeroy and Barx, who were taking serious blows as one Relicanth pushed the Poochyena back with a Water Gun so another could rush at the distracted Herdier with a Head Smash, inflicting painful wounds with excellent team work and skill. Welp, that needed to change as soon as possible. “Leeroy, use a Helping Hand on Barx and get ready for a comeback!” Danny glanced over at Sa-lad to see how the Pansage was holding up, but sure enough, the poor monkey was sound asleep as one of the Relicanth was entrusted with the task of beating up the Pansage before it could wake up, using a powerful Head Smash that sent the Pansage flying across the field. It was a strong attack, sure, but the Relicanth was awfully slow when it came to moving about on land, so getting over there to actually finish the Pansage off sounded like more trouble than it was worth. ”Ok, Sa-lad’s safe for now I guess. So uh, Leeroy! Use Dig! Barx, it’s time for you to get in there with a Sucker Punch and an Assurance!” It took a second to remember the Poochyena’s attacks, and even Barx looked contemplative upon hearing the command, feeling so unfamiliar with using his attacks in battle when he was simply too excited to think straight. But Barx eventually got it, and while Leeroy was content with giving the Poochyena a quick high-five before getting to work on his escape hole, Barx darted in between the two Relicanth and pretended to attack the one he was facing, but with an amused laugh, he suddenly turned tail and smacked the Relicanth behind him with a Sucker Punch. Despite the Relicanth’s thick defenses, the following Assurance stung quite a bit, causing one Relicanth to stagger backwards while Leeroy popped out of the ground with a surprise Dig attack, stacking even more damage on top of Barx’s combination.
The two worked well together, but these Relicanth were too resilient to faint from a couple of small hits. They were practically living rocks! Their rocky shells might’ve been cracked, but it wasn’t enough to stop them from Yawning at how pathetic the two were for even trying to win this battle. When it looked as if their yawns lured their opponents into a drowsy state of mind, one Relicanth decided to shove the Herdier further away with a Water Gun, and soon its buddy joined in with a Water Gun of its own, shoving the sleepy pooch into the river’s shallow waters with next to no resistance. At least Leeroy was awake enough to crawl back out with a shake and a shiver, but poor Barx could barely stand up and fight, barely managing to curse one of the Relicanth with a Spite before collapsing into an exhausted slumber. It didn’t look as if Leeroy was going to stay awake for long, so thinking fast, Danny shouted out the first idea that popped into his head. ”Hey, use Helping Hand on Sa-lad!” It didn’t make sense to expect the drowsy Herdier to run all over the place with a move that might not guarantee the KO, but if his Pansage was stirring around like he was going to wake up, then that sounded like their best option. Before the yawn’s effects could fully kick in, the Herdier let out a motivated howl and cheer that fell upon the Pansage’s ears. And just like that, two Pokemon fell asleep, while another woke back up with a cheerful laugh.
That was good news for Danny, since most of the Relicanth looked weak enough to be taken out with a final Seed Bomb. “Sweet! Alright, Sa-lad. Time to clean up shop. Seed Bomb the strongest looking one in the middle first!” Spamming the hell out of Seed Bomb was a sound plan, but as Sa-lad obediently knocked out his target with a boosted Helping Hand, another Relicanth charged towards his back with a vengeful Head Smash, and Danny wasn’t tolerating any of that. “Dodge! Jump up! Dodge the thing! The thiiiing! You see it, right? Yeah, Acrobatics and Seed Bomb!” Danny didn’t even need to say all of that as the Pansage turned and jumped in time to dodge the incoming Head Smash, doing a couple kickass flips to make himself harder to pinpoint until he could set up another Seed Bomb. Thankfully the hound crew managed to weaken the second one enough so that a single Seed Bomb could finish it off, and while Danny was preoccupied with throwing a Pokeball at the nearest Relicanth to capture it, the final Relicanth went on a rampage and knocked the exhausted Pansage out with a final Head Smash.
Which sucked, yeah, but Danny was still looking good with his two Pokemon facing off against the lone ranger in the center. “Ouch. Return, Laddie. We’ll finish it off for ya.” Looking uneasy as he returned his Pansage, Danny was left to wonder who would be able to make the first move. On one hand, the Relicanth was having a hard time splashing all the way over to his Poochyena, and the Herdier was even farther away. But both of his Pokemon were helpless in a state of sleep. It was honestly the most boring thing Danny ever witnessed, and despite his temptations to send out another Pokemon to finish the Relicanth off, his Poochyena started to stir in its spot. ”Barx? Barx! Get up! Attack the fish, boy! Attack it! Bite its face off, poochy poochy poochy.” Jumping up each time he caught the Poochyena’s legs and ears twitching as the Relicanth continued to splash closer and closer, anticipation put its foot right on Danny’s chest, and the pressure was overwhelming. It took some time, but Barx woke up before the Relicanth could charge up another Head Smash. “Thunder Fang it, quick!” Barx didn’t have much time to process Danny’s command, but once the Poochyena woke and saw Relicanth ominously flopping closer, Barx knew he wanted none o’ that. Charging his fangs with crackling electricity flying out of his mouth, it took one last bite to finish off the aggressive Relicanth, finally ending the match. While Danny was pretty content with keeping one Relicanth for himself, he couldn’t help but get a little greedy and throw two Pokeballs at the remaining Relicanth. Maybe his mom would want one. Maybe he could sell them. Who knows.

Olivia wrapped the thick winter coat around her curvy body tighter, shivering as a cold blast of wind came from the north. She would have to get used to the chilly weather if she was planning on living on that island, but still... The Hoenn native could hold onto dreams and reminisce of her warm and tropical homeland. Was this really the best decision for her team? Coming out in Hoenn had proved... Eventful, to say the least. While they had more support than she would have thought, there was still the massive backlash she knew would come from the events of the past. And no matter how much time passed and how much she tried to bury it, people still held grudges. Which was why she took her team out of their home region and to this new region, Nue. While she had intended to acquire a headquarters in one of the cities, Olivia found them too populated and thought somewhere more secluded would be best. So she purchased an island. And what a hassle that was.
Looking over the winter wonderland that was the Wilds of Nue, Olivia sighed. Was she really making the best choice? The brunette woman pulled her coat collar up higher and continued walking towards her destination, a lake a few yards away in the Wilds. Olivia had sent some grunts to inspect the enormous woods and while they didn't get too far, they did report on a lake filled with odd water type pokemon that they could have sworn were Hoenn natives; Relicanth. After inspecting the Aqua PC, she found them lacking in these ancient fish pokemon and decided to go out herself to capture them. Arceus knows her pokemon could use some training.
Olivia paused at the edge of the lake, the outer part slightly frozen over, and released two of her pokemon, Calypso and Iaera. These two had been the most hyper recently and it would be good to let them blow some steam. Speaking with the voice of a commander, Olivia began to give out orders. "Calypso, let Iaera hop a ride and you two dive into the lake. Grass moves from you, Iaera, and Calypso keep your fist up." She said, her arms crossed over chest to keep herself warm and look more intimidating. The Lotad waddled towards the Marill before latching onto her tail, and the two went diving into the cold lake. Olivia only hoped they listened to her.
Beneath the surface of the lake, it was an entirely different environment. All around the two pokemon were red "eyes" staring at them, which were really just red markings on the sides of the many Relicanth surrounding them. Their territory being invaded, the ancient fish pokemon attacked simultaneously, six intense blast of water being fired at the duo. Calypso acted first, blowing a blast of icy wind from her mouth, freezing the water around them into a sphere of sorts. The six hydro pumps caused the sphere to rattle, but left the two pokemon inside unharmed. Furious, a few of the Relicanth began to pull chunks of the lake bed out, launching rocks at the sphere and causing it to chip away. The holes that were forming in the ice sphere gave Iaera enough room to launch some well placed energy balls at two of the Relicanth, causing them to faint and their bodies floated towards the surface of the lake.
Olivia checked her watch, five minutes had passed and the only sign she had got that her pokemon were still alive was the bubbles emerging from the lake. That was until two large Relicanth floated to the surface, unconscious. The Aqua Leader let out a sigh of relief as she tossed two pokeballs at the pokemon. At least she knew they were winning.
Two of their brethren gone, the Relicanth increased their attempts at breaking the barrier. While two of them were still pulling chucks of the earth out from the lake bed via an ancient technique they knew, the other two readied themselves for a more heads first approach. As in, bashing their rock hard heads into the sphere of ice. With no notice at all, they launched themselves at the ball of ice and shattered it, sending the duo sprawling to different sides of the lake. Calypso was infuriated. No one messed with her teammates. Grabbing onto the body of the fish that had just attacked her, she began to punch at it as her body glowed with a light blue aura. The fish pokemon, nearly dead, was thrown towards the surface of the lake by the angry Marill.
The brunette could only guess what had happened as she saw the lake glow with the light blue energy she had seen before; Someone had pissed off Calypso. And as the body of a Relicanth came flying through the lake surface, she knew her suspicion was right and tossed a pokeball at the pokemon.
Iaera himself was rather hot headed as well, and with his ally dealing with the other ancient pokemon, he launched himself towards the two that were hurling rocks earlier. Blasting two green balls at one of them, causing it to float towards the surface like the others before it, the Lotad then launched a beam of energy at the other, causing it to engulf the pokemon, drain it of its energy, and then return back to the lily pad pokemon, healing him. That pokemon then rose to the surface as well. The final Relicanth had fled in fear, and neither of Olivia's pokemon felt like chasing.
After two more Relicanth came floating to the surface, where they were captured by Olivia, her own pokemon finally came, not too damaged she hoped.

With nothing on the schedule for some time, Rikkan and the crew took some time to kick back and relax. They stopped beside one of Shui's branching rivers to take a small break. Storm and Rikkan lay back in the grass for a nap while Rune lazily watched Celeste and Bridgette splashing each other in the river. The river was calm here, but soon enough a fin popped up from beneath the surface. Rune's eyes opened up fully, standing up and barking out at Celeste and Bridgette. The Emolga turned to see the fin, suddenly having a great idea. With a loud shout, she blanketed herself in electricity... while standing in the river.
The drained charge knocked Bridgette flat out and stunned Celeste, having been in close proximity, although the Eevee remained standing. She grabbed onto Bridgette's collar, trying to drag her out of the water, but to no avail. Rune was quickly present at the riverbank, grabbing Bridgette in mouth and pulling her out of the water, Celeste following on foot. The shark fin hovered in place when the young Pokemon suddenly disappeared from the water, as if waiting for them to return. All of a sudden, the Pokemon burst out of the water, charging at Rune at high speed. The Head Smash connected, sending Rune flying to the side. Rikkan woke up to the commotion to see Rune take a devastating hit, nearly defeating his partner. "Storm! Let's go!"
The Electivire opened his eyes and jumped to his feet, seeing the new opponent. It was a Relicanth, a dangerous Pokemon to Rikkan for its ability to devastate fire types without taking much damage from them. It seemingly took no damage from the dangerous Head Smash, making its ability Rock Head. Fortunately Rikkan knew how to fight them, and Storm was well equipped to handle opponents that Rune couldn't handle. "Starstorm." A delightfully deceptive combo, one of Storm's favorites. The Electivire smashed his hands together, throwing them wide to create a field of ion sparks. Then quickly rearing back, from his mouth he shot a barrage of stars, the Swift absorbing the sparks and turning them to the Electric type, dealing greater damage to the Relicanth that was expecting a normal type Swift.
Shaking off the hit, the Relicanth released a high pressure torrent of Hydro Pump. Storm countered the attack with a burst of Thunder, throwing a grey steam cloud everywhere. "Locate it and use Iron Tail." Storm opened his mouth once more to release a barrage of Swift that would home in on the opponent. As soon as he saw the collision, he leapt into the air with Magnet Rise, a Hydro Pump narrowly missing him. With the Relicanth's position in view, he descended from the air, dropping the Magnet Rise ad his tails began to glow white. He closed in on the opponent and twisted around, landing the Iron Tail as the stream began to dissipate. "Finish it with Thunder."
But the fish had other plans. While Storm landed after using Iron Tail, Relicanth was already rushing into him with Head Smash, sending him sprawling to the ground. All of a sudden the sun got much brighter around them as a howl rang out. The Relicanth turned to notice Rune stqnding once more, charging a Solarbeam. The Relicanth prepared his own Hydro Pump, intending to stop the Arcanine before it could finish the attack, but as it fired, Storm jumped in the way, holding up a Light Screen, lessening the damage further. "Now Rune!"
Storm moved out of the way as the yellow beam of solar energy shot forth, overpowering the Hydro Pump and landing it's mark. Unable to withstand the powerful hit, the Relicanth wavered and fell to the ground, unconscious. "That thing was powerful...." He thought for a moment, pulling out a spare pokeball and throwing it. A water type, though not his style, would be useful and effective on his team.

Ah, fishing in the wilds. Josh had finally found a sector of the Wilds that wasn't cold as fuck. So what do you do? FISH IN IT!
Seriously though, Josh felt it was time to relax a bit. So he and Lightning, alongside a small party had decided to kick back as Josh fished in one of the lakes in the Wilds in the warmer sections of it. Away from the cold and the snow. Of course, they weren't prepared for what was coming on the other end of the line.
"Hey, I got a bite!" Josh said as he got to his feet. Something was pulling, and it was pulling hard! Lightning's ears would perk up as he came over, and what would come out? Relicanth!
But the thing wasn't happy. Oh hell no, it wasn't happy!
[Double Edge, Hydro Pump, Rest, Ancient Power]
Relicanth would send an Ancient Power toward Josh, with rocks jetting from the ground and heading for the blonde before they would be blocked by a Rock Slide attack. "Wha?!-" Josh let out as he looked back to see that his Archen, Petri had leapt to his defense. It was odd... Petri had been so hostile before, ever since he had been revived by Denise from his fossil. But now, after they'd been traveling together, it was as if...
Josh took a breath, and nodded. "Petri, Thrash!" Josh called. Petri let out an earpiercing scream as he would charge toward Relicanth, hitting it with an enraged Thrash attack that would send it back into the water. Relicanth would peek out of the water and shoot a Hydro Pump toward Petri that would ground him and stop the Thrash just as it was truly getting started. "Don't let that stop you, Petri! Use Rock Slide!" Josh called. "Archen!" Petri let out as he would summon a series of large rocks from small portals that would fall on Relicanth, causing it to fall on land. Relicanth would quickly go for Double Edge to try and stop the flightless bird from getting the advantage.
"Dragon Claw, Petri!" Josh would call out. "ARRRCHEN!" He let out as his wings would turn cyan, slamming into the Relicanth and sending it into the water where it would flop upside down to the surface like a dead goldfish. Josh would nod and toss a Pokeball at it.

Oh.
Well, that didn't work, as Josh would find out as the blasted thing would escape from the ball. "Don't give up now, Petri! Use Dragon Claw!" Josh called. "ARRRRRR!" Petri let out as he would leap up and blast the Relicanth as it leaped out of the water, using Dragon Claw. It would fly back, but use Ancient Power in the process, sending stones the way of the Archen, who would land on one in mid-air. "Hop across them, Petri!" Josh called. "Ar!" Petri let out as he would leap from stone to stone as they flew through the air, before leaping off the last one, high into the air, spreading his wings out.
"Hey, you're flying!" Josh called out to the flying Archen... Well, sort of flying, anyway. It would quickly start coming down. "Rock Slide!" Josh called out to Petri. "ARRRRCHEN!" He let out as the portals would open once again to send massive rocks crashing into Relicanth. "Dragon Claw!" Josh called as Petri would turn his landing into a HARD Dragon Claw that would nail Relicanth, smashing it into the grass. Relicanth would flop a bit but get it's bearings and go for Hydro Pump, hitting him dead on. "Gah... Hurry, Rock Slide, again!" Josh called as the portals would open and send out more rocks that would smash into Relicanth. It seemed to be on the ropes now...
"Dragon Claw!" Josh would call again. This time, he was in close! "ARRRRRRCHEN!" He let out as he would swing that Dragon Claw-ified wing into the big ancient fish as hard as he could, sending it into the air as Josh tossed the Pokeball at it.
