ARENA!
Near Slateport beach is a more rocky area. Despite being part of the beach, this area is not really a safe place to have your summer fun. Not only is the rocky environment torturous to find your footing on, but it's slimy, wet, and odds are you'll end up falling and hurting yourself!
ROUND THEME : BANDANA GRAB!
For this round every pokemon will be outfitted with a sash. Players can choose for their pokemon to wear this on their head, arm, leg, around their waist, or any other limb, however, the head is preferred. In each player's first post, the placing of the sash must be stated CLEARLY
The aim of the game is to grab your opponents sash. This can be done however you like, immobilizing the target, going in for a quick grab, making them lose it, and then grabbing it, the choice is all up to you. Last person with a sash wins.
RULES
NO KO : While Weakening your opponent is encouraged to get a better shot, a KO of your opponents pokemon will lead to your own disqualification. You need to get the sash for a win. Death by status effect is impossible. Status effects will do no damage, and only inflict their secondary effects, such as burn's attack reduction.
NO SURE HITS : All "always hits" contact moves are banned from this round. Sadly, I only know of aerial ace. This is to avoid a sure fire grab of the sash too early. Aerial ace is ESPECIALLY banned due to the nature of it being to move faster than the opponent can react. Non contact sure hits like aura sphere are still okay, but may be avoided if the rock terrain is used advantageously. Priority moves, while not banned, are discouraged as a "get out clause" of any grab attempts, or to ensure sure fire grabs of your own.
GRAB IT OR BUST : While you can knock an opponents sash off, a pokemon other than it's owner must grab it to make it count. This means that a lost sash may be retrieved before the opponent can get it. For a pokemon that cannot make a grab easy (such as Wailord) an exception will be made, where in the pokemon must simply touch a sash already lost by the other pokemon.
ITS SO SUNNY : Sunny day will be in effect from the beginning of the round, and continue until another weather is thrown in. The new weather will last the usual rounds, before returning to sunny. Normal weather is impossible to achieve unless there is a move or ability that causes it.
I'M THE JUDGE : If a player makes a hit they consider would remove the sash, or make a grab for the sash itself, I must be contacted to judge. There are several factors I will be taking into account, and I will post if the grab is succesful or not. You can contact me through PM, or mod summons, though PM is preferred. Please ensure your opponents know that I have been contacted in your last post. SECOND POINT: The target of the grab may also PM me if they believe there is a way they could easily avoid the grab attempt. If this explanation is given, and I agree, there will be an instant denial of the grab attempt. This is simply to avoid a spam of grabs.
HOW TO WIN
These are less rules, and more just factors I will be taking into account.
WEAKEN YOUR OPPONENT : For every 10th of it's health a pokemon loses, I will be increasing the chance of a successful grab. Imagine it as if the weakened pokemon becomes more sluggish. While damaging status effects will not do harm, they will be taken into account for a grab. Paralyze, toxic poison, sleep, and confusion being the most rewarding.
BLOCK ALL THE GRABS! : Protect/detect style moves can be used to instantly block any grab attempt. If I see a target pokemon has one of these moves, I will PM them personally to see if they wish to use it. However, be warned that I will not inform you if the grab would have been succesful or not before you decided to use the move.
HAVE FUN : Remember that rule about no overkill? Yeah, I'm taking it seriously. Have fun with this guys, I don't wanna see any of you going into this like it's a death match for the keystone. If anyone has issues with an opponent dodging every move, or pinning you in a single move, contact me.
All in all, have fun, and may the best trainer win~

Squinting into the “arena” where the first round of this madness would be held, Izumi knew that she would be going up against not one, but two other individuals. With eleven people in this tournament, I kind of know why only eight need to go forward… so I am not going to be one of the three that will lose! She thought to herself as she then slipped on her ‘diving shoes’; which looked like soccer cleats but kept the sand out, and had a grip underneath so that she wouldn’t lose traction. There was a slight problem to this, however—the place where this madness was going to be taking place would be by the rockier area of Slateport, a place she’d never approach under normal circumstances! Then again, she was slightly relieved, since the ‘mon she chose for this aprt of the tourney could circumvent the rocky terrain—now the problem was actually getting around. Would I be allowed to even ride on his back? She wondered to herself as she slathered on as much sunscreen as she could spare; before slipping on a tinted pair of aviator shades and a beach hat so that she could keep the glaring rays of the sun off from her as much as she could.
Ugh, why is my swimsuit so revealing… she thought in horror, quickly adding a long red sash so that she could at least hide most of her well-built legs. All that hiking and travelling did make her bulk up a bit; but she was still a lady and had some kind of decent modesty left! Seeing that she was given a sash, she then grinned; before releasing her chosen entry for this tournament; and watched as the flash of red light transformed into her trusty Braviary, Sora. “Brav?” she heard it squawk in confusion, before she whistled in his direction. “Hey. C’mere. Let me tie this around you…” she continued, quickly securing the sash to his neck; she didn’t trust having to place it around his head; and she then knelt down and then expertly tied it up much like a human would tie their shoelaces. “Okay, all set. Now, what are we going to do…” she muttered as she looked around, wondering just where the hell the other participants were. Did she get here too early? Or was she on time, just that they were hiding around the area, scattered so that they wouldn’t be able to team up cause some havoc? “Now, Sora… listen to me. We can’t go overkill. But… when you see someone firing an Ice Beam… You better dodge with all you can, okay? Remember Shalour? We’re not going to go down in defeat this time…” she said, quickly giving him a beak rub and patting his feathers; before squinting further ahead to see if there was something else she needed to look out for!
WORDS 484 TAGS Les do dis. NOTES Hi, game on. Also, her outfit is from the A:TLA Summer episode, the one where she smacks em all in Kuai Ball. Or volleyball. Whatever. Add a pair of shades, a wide-brimmed hat and diving "shoes" on it.
So this is the place? Nice training field, if even that. Admittedly, it did fit the event. Tyrannus probably would have liked it, but then again Tyrannus didn't know how to not go overboard. If he was known, then his choice of Pokemon would end up surprising those who knew him. Dressed in the standard hakama and sandals, he did not wear his vest, leaving his chest bare to display quite a number of old scars across tanned muscle. For a moment, he did wear his haori, but it hung loosely from his shoulders, and when the white ranger leapt up onto a large boulder, chose to shed it, letting the heavy haori thud to the rock surface, the chainmail clinking until it settled. His forearms were covered in long white bandages, but past that his upper body was bare.
An Emolga descended from the air to perch on Rik's shoulder, chirping up about how great she'll do in the match. Rik brought up an arm to pet down her back, tugging on the red sash tightened snugly around her neck. "Do your best for me, Bridgett." Bridgett chirped happily at Rikkan's support, reaffirming her intent to show him that she would be victorious. The ranger cast his eye about the field, noticing one opponent had made it to the stage. She brought a Braviary, and while Bridgett held the type advantage here, against a Braviary she would have her work cut out for her. They were known for their power and fierce attitude, and this one wouldn't likely relent. It's trainer appeared just as capable, giving off the aire of an experienced warrior.
He couldn't help but feel a sense of hilarity with her outfit; she appeared to be be distressed by it. Of course, he knew virtually nothing about swim attire etiquette, though he had spent his childhood in Hoenn, he never swam or went to the beaches. Not the he had any intent to do that now, though his affinity toward the desert sand was the reason he was in this tourney. Well, and the crappy and cheap boat that needed to perform repairs for Arceus knows how long. According to the roster, one more entrant should be making his way here. Rik squatted down on his perch, keeping an eye outv for the late entry.

The tournament had began! Jason had been very anxious as to who was joining and what would be going on, because if he was right, someone had said that this tournament would be a little unorthodox... And after reading the battle information for the first round, he had to agree with that person. First off, he would be in a triple battle with some Rikkan guy and Izumi, which he only talked to briefly when he was at Rustboro. Second, it wasn't even battle! The objective of this round was to hold on to your sash as long as possible while also stealing your opponents sash, last one with a sash wins. Sounds simple enough, right? WRONG. They were also out in some rocky portion of the beach with the sun shining down on them like they were in some desert. It was almost unbearably hot, but with the ocean nearby, one could easily jump in it to cool down. Either way, it would be an interesting battle.
However, Jason would need to choose who would be participating. With the field covered in hazardous rocks, it would have to be someone that could levitate, fly, or didn't mind the rocks. He was tempted to go with one of his Altaria, but they were both tired after some recent breeding, which left their children, the triplet Swablu. Those three weren't ready for something like this seeing as they would rather give up the sash than get dirty, so Jason had to choose a different pokemon. There was some ghost pokemon he had picked up that floated above the ground.. Then it hit him. He had just captured a multitude of Drifloon and Drifblim! They would be perfect for this round! Deciding on the Drifblim, the hunk of a man went out to the designated arena.
It appeared he was the last one there. The other two had already released their pokemon, a Braviary and Emolga, both flying types with the latter also being an electric type. That could be a little annoying to deal with, but he'd handle it when the moment came. Pulling his own pokeball from the swimming trunks he was wearing, Jason released Zeppelin the Drifblim. The blimp pokemon looked at him blankly while Jason tied the sash into the little cloud on the pokemon's head. Jasn actually tied it into the cloud, making a tight knot so it wouldn't come loose and would be a hassle to grab. "All done, Zeppelin." The trainer said, releasing the pokemon from his grasp. The Drifblim then floated out onto the field, lazily eyeing its adversaries.
Izumi told me I could go ahead of her. Jason RoydeIzumi Yamamura Bridgett: 100% Evd+1 Double Team, Quick Attack, Nuzzle
Whoa. Oh boy did he feel lucky with his choice.
Not only did Bridgett hold type advantage over both competitors, but neither were known for their speed. Well, Braviary was perhaps a major threat, due to it's astronomical attack power, but instead of taking down the bigger threat, he wanted some buffer. To ensure he didn't lose out completely when going toe to toe with the huge bird, Bridgett was going to exercise her superior speed against the Drifblim and take it out of the game before it could use it's own long range attacks that Drifblim were excellent at.
"Take flight, keep your distance, and take out the preliminary threat." The Emolga gave Rikkan a wink and leapt off his shoulder, flying onto the battlefield, straight into a move. She would dive down and suddenly split up into multiple copies, each flitting it's own way to converge around the Drifblim. Suddenly they would start rushging at the ghost type, passing harmlessly through it, until the real one came in at ghig speed, using Quick Attack to move ahead of any of it's moves, electrifying itself with Nuzzle in an attempt to quickly paralyze the opponent.

Seeing that their third “competitor” had arrived on the field—she knew that mass mayhem could officially commence! Wondering if it was just her imagination and she’d seen the other guy who’d just arrived before, she then gave another affectionate beak rub Sora’s way before actually wondering if it was even possible to ride him into battle! Then again I guess that’s not allowed… she thought to herself and seeing that the other guy had already made his move, first going for a Double Team—wise move—and then suddenly picking up speed and then she realized that this one had an Electric-type, which could spell trouble—not that Sora had picked up a new move along the way. It’s just perfect. She thought to herself with a grin as she then gave the whistle, and Sora spread his wings and took off, before chirping another set of commands—she was also practicing training Sora by sound and not by verbal cues, which would leave them all guessing as to what the hell she was up to.
She then began whistling a chain of four notes, pure and clear—and then the Braviary suddenly flapped up a gust of wind that even Izumi felt, and knew that the Tailwind had been pulled off without a hitch. Squinting into the sky; she knew that she had to g with the next set of moves—and then whistled a lower tune with the help of a bird-whistle she was wearing around her neck (which she had totally forgotten that she was wearing at the time). At the same moment, Sora knew what this meant; and then quickly flapped his wings in a rapid flurry; before releasing two blades of crossed air that sailed towards… the little flying squirrel that had made a move against the other guy’s Pokemon! Take out the type advantage first before dealing with the other one… she thought, crossing her fingers and hoping for a hit, before whistling the same tune that she did a few moments ago, following up the first attack of crossed air blades with another!

It seemed like this battle was going to be an annoying one. The guy with the white hair, who has white hair? It's tacky and ugly. Anyway, the guy with the white hair had told his Emolga to take out the preliminary threat, which apparently meant Jason's Drifblim. He sighed and watched as the tiny electric type made its way towards the large blimp pokemon, realizing his time in the tournament might indeed be cut short. The Emolga was sparking with electricity, so it didn't seem like a thunderbolt was headed his way, but still. Electric pokemon were known for their ability to paralyze, and with the ghost type pokemon already being slow, a paralysis wouldn't help it out much. It would take a miracle for the opponent's move to miss, Jason thought as the squirrel pokemon created copies of itself and began to speed up as it approached Zeppelin.
Well, a miracle or a helpful ally. The hunky blond hadn't really been paying attention to the other opponent, Izumi, seeing as he had to focus on the Emolga, but suddenly, two deadly slashes of hardened air came sailing towards the electric pokemon! Jason arched an eyebrow at the sudden attack, but didn't question it or the next one, instead returning his attention towards his own pokemon. Zeppelin wasn't stupid, and was in fact a predator. He knew how to handle situations and took the opportunity that had arisen to save himself. With the slashes of air cutting any connection between himself and his opponent, he used the air flow from the attack to propel him skyward. From his now skyward view, the Drifblim's eyes began to glow a deep purple color, summoning more unnatural winds below. The two blast of wind were even more empowering for the blimp pokemon because one of them caused him to feel a slight strangeness; His body felt faster, more powerful, and more capable of taking hits. If the opponent hadn't considered him a threat before, they should now.
NOTES: Used Braviary's attacks as a distraction to dodge, then launched himself skyward via the air currents. Then used two offensive Ominous Wind at Emolga, one of them raised all of Drifblim's stats. Drifblim = +1 ATK, +1 DEF, +1 SPATK, +1 SPDEF, +1 SPD
Bridgett: 67% Evd+1 Sp Atk+1 Took both Air Slash, avoided both Ominous Wind, used Charge Beam on Drifblim. Izumi YamamuraJason Royde
Huh. This bleach blonde seems to be letting his Pokemon fight on it's own, neglecting the need to give orders. So much for the spirit of battle. There was no way he was going to let such a no name defeat him. Unfortunately, the Drifblim would get assistance from the Braviary, and suddenly Rikkan was cursing his type advantage. He was fighting two Flying types, both of which saw him as a threat. They were certainly right about it, anyway. BEfore Bridgett realized it, the first Air Slash was right on top of her during her dash. The second one crashed right after the first, throwing her off into a wild spin, accidentally evading the first of the Ominous Wind.
She quickly regained her balance from the hit and leveled out her flight. "Roll right!" Dropping her right wing, she dove into a rightward roll, narrowly evading the incoming surge of dark wind, pulling back up to gain altitude. "Power snipe!" With a quick glance to the Drifblim's location, Bridgett began accumulating an electrical charge, flipping over in midair to launch a Charge Beam straight at the opponent.

Now that the battle was on a roll, it wouldn’t seem too fair if Sora would be targeting just one person now would she. Wondering if this was a good idea, she then cast an eye over the rocks and saw that apparently, she and the blonde-haired guy had the same notion: taking out the type-advantage. Well, at least for now it would suffice—however soething quite disturbing popped into her mind; why were they not attacking Sora yet? Izumi shook her head and cleared the thought out of her mind; and returned her focus to the battle. Seeing that as of the moment, the Drifblim was being pelted with attacks but not without the Emolga also getting hit. No, don’ get too cocky, try to snipe them off one at a time but don’t get too close! She thought, suddenly remembering the “No KO” clause of the match. Shit. I have to be very careful here… she continued to herself, scanning the area underneath where the three flying / levitating / floating Pokémon were now apparently battling it out—well, make that two since her Braviary was off at a safe distance, watching the other two nuke it out with each other. “Time to start making things interesting,” she said with a smirk on her face as she whistled a sharp tune; making Sora hover close to her location.
“Let’s cause some mayhem, love,” was all she said with a thumbs-up, and the Braviary nodded, before she pointed forward. “Now, get out into the field and wait for my signal!” she continued, letting the Tailwind take effect—she knew she had the effect for three more rounds before recasting it; and then watched as the Braviary flew off; before deciding on what attack to use. “Okay Sora, fly just a bit lower…. Lower… perfect!” she said, hoping that her ‘mopn could still hear her commands. “Now, go!” she shouted, placing the whistle to her lips and then blowing the same tune she’d puffed earlier; and he began flapping his wings in a flurry—but this Air Slash was not going to be aimed at anyone, instead the Braviary unleashed another set of cross-shaped air blades and aimed it… towards the rocks that were gathered there! Hell I don’t know if it would be powerful enough to slice the rocks apart but who knows, it’s worth a try! She continued, gritting her teeth as she took another breath and this time blew a single note through—and that’s when the Braviary zoomed in and then began flapping as hard as it could, sending rocks flying out from underneath where the other two combatants were gathered!
“Fall back, fall back!” she shouted after her Braviary had used Rock Slide, watching as the flying debris and hunks of rock hurtled in the sky towards the two opponents. Hey, she couldn’t just knock them all out and disqualify herself, right? Not unless they decided to dodge and make things a bit more interesting…

The small squirrel pokemon was hit by both air slash from the bird pokemon and was able to dodge the blast of ghastly wind Zeppelin had summoned. Jason crossed his arms over his chest and considered the options. By the way the Emolga was acting, and watching it prep a beam of electricty towards his Drifblim, it was obvious that it was targeting the large purple blimp pokemon alone. Yet, the electric type was completely ignoring the other enemy. The hunky blond had watched the Braviary dive down to break apart the rocks on the ground with powerful flaps of wind, then sent them skyward, towards Zeppelin and the Emolga. Impressive strategy, using the environment to your advantage, but Jason had other plans than to let his pokemon by hit by the attack. "Wind." The blond called to his pokemon, knowing it would understand the order.
With the bird pokemon having used Tailwind to speed itself up, its attacks came first before the Emolga's. As the rocks came flying towards him, Zeppelin blew a blast of wind towards the Emolga, changing the direction of the rocks so now the ones that would have hit him were going for the squirrel pokemon. Then, he let loose a strong blast of wind, one comparable to that of a thunder storm, towards the electric type pokemon. The Drifblim had combined two Ominous Wind into one, their powerful breeze becoming more like 50 mile per hour winds.
Bridgett: 67% Spd+1 Sp Atk+1 Jason RoydeIzumi Yamamura The improv atk/def parry was blocked by previously used Charge Beam, dodged the storm with Quick Attack+Agility, uses Electro Ball on Drifblim
It seemed that the Drifblim was far peskier than either Bridgett or Rikkan had thought. As the Charge Beam coursed towards the ghost type, Braviary's Rock Slide quick approached the Drifblim, prompting it to blow the rocks away, specifically at Emolga. Thankfully, her Charge Beam had intercepted it, else she would have been in much more trouble.
Of course, as the Braviary rushed by, the ghost launched a behemoth of a wind blast at Bridgett. In that split second, she flipped backwards and tilted her wings, performing a spinning Quick Attack amplified by Agility, bringing her well out of the way of the torrent of black winds.
"Ramp shot!"
Ramp being Rik's code word for speed, there was only one attack that could be. One not easily deflected by wind or rocks. Bridgett's tail lit up with sparks as an Electro Ball formed at the tip. With another flip, she sent it flying at the opponent. Their speed was amplified equally, but Emolga count speed among their strengths, something Drifblim cannot do.

Izumi here was left to wonder as to why the two other ‘mons were nuking it out with each other; but thankfully since she had issued the order to fall back, her Braviary was now flying above the battlefield, looking for an opening. If they both ended up knocking each other out, it would be all but a simple matter to dive and grab their sashes… but the name of the game was to get a sash, and the last ‘mon standing with a sash wins, right? Wondering what she was doing wrong, she decided to switch plans—when the little Emolga suddenly began charging up an attack from the tip of its tail; and she decided that it would not be worth charging in right now at the Drifblim since whatever was going to happen was going to be nasty. Instead she decided to do another variation of the distance attack she’ done earlier; by blowing a few notes on the bird whistle that she was carrying at the moment.
“Sora! Try to damage the Drifblim from a distance!” she shouted, before puffing the first set of notes; which made the Braviary pick up what was left of its Speed advantage, flapping up another series of cross-shaped air blades; and then promptly launched its Air Slash attack—at the floating Ghost-type. She knew that the Emolga was preoccupied; and was hoping that whatever attack it was using was going to hit; but even so, she decided to just go ahead and rely on the distance until the Tailwind died out. Since she had two more moves, she decided to just go ahead and aim another Air Slash at the Drifblim again, puffing the notes that she’d done earlier so that her Braviary would pick up on the command. Soon after, another cross-shaped air blade went flying towards the Drifblim; and there was a small gap between the first and second attacks. “Nothing can dodge forever…” she muttered to herself; since she also had a plan on how to advance to the next part of this entire thing!
Notes Bridgett: 67% Sp Atk+1 Spd+1 On account of taking far too long to post, Jason Royde has been disqualified from the match.
The barrage seemed to be working, catching the opponent off guard as the joint attack succeeded in staggering the Drifblim. All that remained was for the speedy squirrel to race in while it was staggered and grab the bandana. In a flash, Bridgett turned over into a dive, picking up more speed and finally breaking out of it to dash over to the balloons location, putting on a burst of speed with Quick Attack, flying just over the fluff and clipping the bandana off with her hand, pulling it clear off.
With the bandana lost, the Drifblim's trainer was out of the tourney, meaning that Rik and the woman had secured spots in the tourney. But even still, there was the tasty reward for first place in this round. It would go a long way in training Rajang to full strength. With a glance, he turned to face the woman, Izumi, still crouching down on his boulder. He was at a disadvantage in terms of fighting health, however his type advantage was no longer a hinderance. "Good luck on that prize." She had an interesting methods of calling her orders. He'd noticed it rather quickly, she'd preformed the same whistle that brought about Air Slash both times, and from there it was a simple case of noticing a whistle before.most if not all the attacks.
Not that he had the time or necessity to learn her trick, this was just a for fun tournament, though he was still interested in that thing the Blaziken did.
