So it had been some time since she’d last traversed around these parts—and this was where she’d gotten lucky and caught Kuma, who was now travelling alongside her. There was no way in hell she was sending out Momo in the cold weather; and she herself was wrapped to the nines in the best winter wear she could scrounge out of her closet—Izumi here was used to the heat, but not to its polar opposite, extreme cold. “I-I-I-I’m not used to this weather!” was all she could shout over the howling wind; yet she knew she was safe since there were no reported avalanches coming down or anything—in fact Twist Mountain was the exact opposite of how she’d imagined it; it was a mountain on the outside; yet there were people “working” on its inside—most were workers who were clearing the road, yet there were a few Scientists here and there as well.
“Brrr,” she said, rubbing her hands together to keep warm, and at that moment, Kuma the Cubchoo decided to make an appearance… by rolling out in the snow. “C-choo!” she heard it trill happily, rolling around in the cold area, creating piles and mounds of snow everywhere. “Choo?” it asked, looking up from its current position to see that Izumi was trudging her best up the path that it had effortlessly taken. “Choo!” it continued, quickly trundling over the ice and helping her through the cold area, before they came to a stop near a rock, where she hunched down and started rubbing her hands in earnest.
“Damn it, why does it have to be so cold…” she trailed off; there was one reason and one reason alone why she was here: she was looking for a Rufflet. But who knew what would appear in this weather?! She then heard the howling wind pick up in speed and intensity, before she crouched down and covered her ears, watching as her breath formed out into frosty puffs; whereas her companion was huddled nearby—yet she knew that Cubchoo were used to this weather. “Wonder when it would appear…” she hissed, rubbing her hands once more before standing up—and receiving a handful of snow to the face.
KER-SPLAT!
Growling, she crouched down again and began wiping off the slush on her face. “Today is not my lucky day…” she growled as she finished wiping off the slush and then trudged out again, this time covering her face with the crook of her arm as she continued to plow her way through the area.

After covering some distance, she heard Kuma’s trill decrease in patch; trying to look up from her shielded state, she then saw… you have got to be kidding me?! Went through her mind as she saw what looked like a humanoid ‘mon, only this time carrying what looked like to be a block of wood. “Kuma, get back in here, now,” she hissed, quickly ducking behind a rock and pulling out Kuma’s designated Pokeball. “Choo?” it had time to say before disappearing in a flash of red light; then she pulled out the only other ‘ball with her, and in another flash of red light, Momo appeared… and then began shivering as well. “Shh, Momo, bear with me, there’s a wild ‘mon up ahead… let’s do this…” she hissed as she quickly appeared within the Timburr’s line of sight. Okay, how was that done again… she thought as Momo got into position, and then issued her first order;
“Momo, go and try a Confusion attack on it, before it gets too close!”
“Ralts!” she heard her companion say before standing in place—as the Timburr turned around and finally saw them— before what appeared to be a lump of energy smacked it right in the face, causing the piece of wood it was carrying to fly from its grip. “Burr…” she heard it trill out, before picking itself up and chasing down its fallen piece of wood—and in the back of her mind, she snickered for a few seconds, is that its security blanket or something? She thought, while waiting for it to make a move. Instead, it quickly turned tail and disappeared into the snow, before Izumi came over and scooped up the minuscule Ralts into her hands.
“You’re staying with me,” he said in a purring voice, before touching her forehead to Momo’s, and that made her companion very happy—at least she could tell it was. The wind had lessened somewhat, but it was still hard to walk through the snow due to the fact that it was piling up.
“Come on, give me something good… I’m not leaving this place until we get our valiant cohort!” she said, that aura of determination flaring up at first, before seemingly blazing all around her.
“Ralts!” she heard Momo cry, as if in encouragement.

After a few more moments of trudging through the ever-thickening snow that was now falling from the sky (and the surrounding area) Izumi and Momo came across another ‘mon; unfortunately it wasn’t the one that they wanted—but she knew that if she was going to go on her “journey” of following a certain person around and keep him out of trouble, she’d need as much diversity as she could get her hands on. “Mien?” she heard their new “companion” say, looking at them testily; and it was at this point Momo hopped out of Izumi’s hold and settled gracefully on the snow-covered ground, looking first at the ‘mon, before looking back at her. Izumi seemed to have some good plans at this moment, and then she grinned, quickly reaching into her pocket and feeling one of the small Pokeballs in her grip.
“Now, Momo, what I want you to do is…” she began, giving her this grin that only mistress and ‘mon understood, and a few moments later, Momo the Ralts loked forward again, sizing up the enemy in their midst.
“Mien! Mien, mienfoo~!” she heard the next humanoid-shaped ‘mon say, before it leapt into action; quickly hunching down and then sending star-shaped rays Momo’s way! “Momo, go and try to dodge it, then use Calm Mind! Let’s go!” she called out, watching as those star-shaped rays careened towards Momo—it was about to prepare evasive tactics when Izumi suddenly remembered—that only one attack sends star-shaped rays at the opponent; and it was a guaranteed hit! “Damn it,” she hissed as she watched Momo take on the full brunt of the Swift attack; and then winced—yet she was still standing; and then Momo executed the Calm Mind support technique; which was mostly her gaining focus. Izumi didn’t know by how much Momo’s stats went up, and she took a guess, as she quickly followed up the order with this, “Go, use Confusion, now!”
“Ralts!” she heard Momo nod, before watching a lump of physically-manifested energy fly through the air—just as the Mienfoo took notice of what was going on; and then launched one of its attacks—and Izumi could only look on first in confusion, then out of rage as the Confusion attack was blocked! “Gah! What the hell?!” she shouted, before seeing the shadow of a smirk play across the Mienfoo’s face. “I think I know what to call you…” she began, pointing a finger at the Mienfoo that had attempted to block the attack, “I’ll call you Asuka!” she declared, before whipping out the Pokeball she was holding in her pocket—her intention now clear.
“Momo, try your hand at Magical Leaf, now!” she called out, and from seemingly out of nowhere, leaves made from what appeared to be psychic energy popped into existence, before whistling through the air and flying towards the Mienfoo, that barely had time to try and block the incoming attack! She knew (thanks t some of the local musclemen that hung around their café back in Lavaridge) that either Protect or Deflect could only work in non-successive turns (it helps to have sparring partners within town) and she grinned as the attack connected with the Mienfoo, sending it reeling—and forced backwards by several steps.
“Mien… Mienfoo!” she heard the soon-to-be-caught Asuka call out, as if asking for her to stop, and Momo looked over at her inquiringly and then nodded, before calling out, “Momo, go use Toxic, now!” and her Ralts quickly nodded, before executing the attack—she didn’t see anything visible appear, yet there was a sign that the Mienfoo was weakening; since it had gotten smacked with a status attack, and this was the point where Izumi took up her first throwing stance, pitching back just slightly (like a baseball player) before letting the Pokeball fly from her hands, and watched as it opened and swallowed up the soon-to-be-dubbed Asuka in its red light…

Come on, come on, come on… she thought as she continued through the snow, evidently quite pleased with herself as she saw that she’d finally gotten a new companion—and then she thought she was seeing double, because… “Kuma? What the hell are you doing out of your Pokeball?” she asked quizzically, gaping at the Cubchoo that had stumbled across their path, before she smacked her forehead with her free hand. Stupid, Kuma is in the Pokeball, so this must be one of his cousins! She thought as she mentally rolled her eyes and was starting to curse her abysmal luck, and then she felt a tug at the hem of her jeans.
“Ralts?” she heard Momo ask her, and for a moment her features softened. “No no, it was just me being… stupid…” she trailed off, before cracking her knuckles and then pointing forward, “Well, Momo, you know what to do, get the Confusion attack out and ready!”
“Ralts!” she heard her companion say in acknowledgement, and the Cubchoo that was now leering at them swung its snot around, as if bracing for an attack—and then the physical representation of a psychic lump of energy appeared and then shot towards the Cubchoo, which apparently had used its Endure attack, because it was still standing—and she knew that Momo’s Confusion wasn’t that well-developed yet… at least to her level of understanding.
“Choo!” she heard the bear cry out in rage, before charging Momo’s way! “Oh crap,” she hissed, before following up the command with, “Momo, go use Magical Leaf!”
“Ralts!” came the reply, and then the same attack that she’d used to weaken Asuka materialized once more, before whizzing through the air and hitting the incoming mad teddy-cross-polar bear. “Come on, let’s get out of here!” she shouted, quickly scooping up Momo in her hands and picking her way back through the path she’d cut through the snow a few moments ago.

Sighing, because the earlier encounter was apparently another dud, she then sighed and was walking down the path she’d treaded when suddenly, she heard something shifting. More like… why does it sound like there are waling rocks… she thought, before looking behind her and seeing actual, moving, walking rocks! “Oh, shit,” was all she had time for as she quickly ducked down flat on the snow (therefore drenching herself in the process) and watched in silent awe as a bunch of walking rocks… what she roughly estimated to be more grown-up versions of what she knew were Roggenrola walked across the snow, making quite a ruckus. How the hell am I supposed to fight those?! I’m going to get squashed! She thought with a cringe as Momo looked on as well, before she watched the procession trundle slowly away into the snow. “Can you still manage this?” she asked, before looking over at Momo—and received a nod. They then continued to crouch down in the snow, watching, waiting…
Several more ‘mons appeared, but this time they were the actual Roggenrola—because not only were they smaller, they all looked alike. She could hear their seemingly pointless chatter reach her ears; “Roggen? Roggenrola?! Roggenrolla, rola!”
“Rola, rola. Roggen, roggen roggenrola!”
What the hell are they talking about… she thought as she quickly picked herself up and immediately shivering—because her clothes were soaked (and the moisture had seeped into her skin) she then cringed as the wind hit her, and she then took a roundabout route to the back of the “pack”, as she saw one of the younger Roggenrolas falling behind—it was so perfect! “Roggen, roggen!” she could hear it squeal, as if asking its siblings (and what presumably looked to be its parents) to wait for it.
“Not today, little one…” she hissed, quickly motioning Momo to get into position; and then she said, “Come here, you! Momo, use Calm Mind, now!” she called out, getting ready to get into action.
“Ralts!” came the reply, and the young Roggenrola could only look on, before crying out again, “Roggen, roggen!” and then Izumi watched out of shock as a single rock hurtled their way—before smacking Momo in the face! “Ouch…” she cringed as she watched her companion reel back out of shock—had the Calm Mind connected? Who knew? “Let’s go, Momo, use Confusion, but don’t kill it!” she added, following up the earlier command, and she watched as Momo quickly spun up to her feet, before watching the materialized hunk of energy whiz through the air; before hitting the lone remaining Roggenrola smack in the…face?
She then took out another empty Pokeball she had on her, before pitching and taking aim—“Go use Magical Leaf on it too, it’s still standing!”
“Ralts!” she heard Momo say, before watching the leaf-shaped spheres of energy emerge, and then watched as it flew through the air and hit the Roggenrolla, sending it reeling further down…
“Come on!” she shouted, tossing the second Pokeball toward it, and watched as it opened up and swallowed the remaining Roggenrola in a flash of red light…
