So, he finally noticed, huh… she mused to herself as she then snuck a look over to where Josh was now pondering on what the hell had just happened. “Well, I did some poking around… and when I accidentally discovered that the people over here knew my language, it was just a matter of re-wording a few things here and there… so they can understand what I’m saying, even if it sounds like an entirely different thing altogether,” she conceded with this triumphant look in her face.
“Apparently, the dialect that they use over in the Johto region—specifically, in Ecruteak—is the basis for what they speak over here. Oh, you know how Shui is—all backwards and everything. They like things in the old-fashioned style, and they’re afraid to adapt… but sadly, more and more of the young ones are going out and seeing the world in this case,” she said in a whisper, casting a furtive glance around just in case someone familiar spotted her.
Thankfully, so far, nothing of the embarrassing sort had happened—and she was about to turn to Josh to ask him about things when the first few orders started to stream in. Izumi heard the clinking of plates as each of the dishes were delivered—and then stole another glance from around the menu and saw that the delicious smell was coming from the dumplings that had been parked in front of her.
Across that were the sushi rolls, and beside it was a platter of rice balls stuffed with a variety of fillings; and that was more than enough to make her mouth water. “Okay, prepare yourself for a crash-course lesson…” she muttered as she then reached for one of the packets of wet tissue that had been left for them to use and ripping it open, wiping her hands down.
First off were the dumplings, which she then pointed at. “Those are usually steamed or fried… looks like they gave us steamed, which is a good thing. Inside is a variety of fillings, but I asked for them to bring the sampler plate so that we can taste pork, chicken, shrimp, lobster… the entire ten yards,” she began, before snapping open a pair of wooden sticks and going for the soy sauce in a small dish, dipping the first one in and then putting it in her mouth. She then cracked a grin after she’d finished chewing and swallowing, before indicating the sushi rolls.
“That one… rice, molded and used as a base. The fillings of this one is fresh mango and crabsticks, before being molded and rolled around in roe eggs. Don’t worry, the orange stuff is harmless. It’s quite tasty,” she continued, this time snapping up another and dunking it into another platter of soy sauce before swallowing it in one go.
Hell this is tasty… she thought as she then reached for one of the rice balls, and then showed it to him. “And of course, rice balls. Held together with seaweed wrap. Don’t worry, it’s harmless. Just helps to bind the whole thing together. I don’t know what the fillings of this one is, since I also asked for the sampler plates in our order… but go ahead and try,” she ended, before inspecting one and then taking a rather large bite from it; revealing the fish flakes filling within. “Mmm, tasty,” she continued, munching on it and making it disappear in one go.
“What’re you waiting for? Let’s eat!” she continued, urging him to go ahead and help himself.

".... Accidentally?" The blonde would inquire to Izumi's response, tilting his head. "How do you accidentally figure out that your second language is remotely similar to the first language of Shui people? Did you cuss someone out in your second language, and they answered you?" He would tease, playfully nudging Izumi in response. "I have... No unearthly idea how in the world you managed to pull that off, but.... Congrats, I guess?" He said, shrugging. He wouldn't ask anymore, he supposed. No point.
Of course, no need. The food was here. There were all sorts of foods that Josh... Honestly didn't recognize. He wasn't used to Shui food, it was something different to him. He was more used to the foods of western culture. Perhaps picking Shui was a bad idea? Regardless, he'd try, at least in order to make Izumi happy. Izumi would show him the different foods and delicacies, before demanding he get right to it.
"Huh? Oh, yeah... Uh, right" He said, taking a breath as he tried to decide what to try first. He supposed he'd try a Rice Ball... Quickly, he would pick one up and look it over. "Didn't they used to call these doughnuts?" He joked, before shoving one into his move. "Mmm, not bad" He said as he would chow down.

“It was quite the surprise, to be honest,” she began, after reaching for another one of the rice balls and cramming as much of it as she could into her mouth. After chewing and getting the flaky contents down, she then reached for one of the glasses of water that had been left there and continued, “Well, it was more on an accidental discovery, but hey… if it works, then it works,” before shrugging and snapping up another one of the sushi rolls and then dunking it in the little saucer that had soy sauce in it.
After cramming another one, and yet another one of the sushi rolls into her mouth, she then let the flavors roll around before finally swallowing and gave him another look. “I know the food’s quite confusing, but eh, it’s really tasty once you start eating,” she continued, before gently shunting the platter that held a wide variety of steamed dumplings in his direction.
“Go on, eat. I know the fillings are… hmm. Chicken, pork, beef, shrimp… and quite surprisingly, tuna, lobster, and ground mushroom. They serve this either steamed or fried, but either way they’re tasty,” she encouraged, before finally snapping up one of the dumplings and giving it another little dip in the coaster that had soy sauce in it, and then letting it drop into her mouth. After chewing and thoroughly digesting it, she heard another clinking noise and looked up—the drinks were here!
Well, the alcoholic drinks were, at least. There were two serving dishes and a rather…large bottle that contained the aforementioned sake that she’d ordered. “Oh my. This, you should be familiar with at least,” she cracked with a smirk on her face before sliding one of the drinking dishes his way and poring herself the first shot; then filling his own up as well.
“Cheers, you derp,” she continued with a wily grin on her face as she then downed the entire contents of her drinking dish in one, and then poured herself another serving.

"Was it now?" The blonde would inquire as Izumi spoke of her accidental discovery of Shui dialect. He would swallow down the rice ball and reach for another. While it had an... Interesting texture, it very much reminded him of the doughnuts that he would eat on the road before he had his motorcycle, and flying types, and the like. It was a given that the blonde would garner towards something that at least had some semblance of familiarity in an environment where all the food was foreign and odd and unknown to him.
"You don't say?" He would respond when she spoke of how odd the food was, as he crammed down another rice ball. Then, he decided to take a stab at the pork. Josh loved meat after all, no, I don't mean booty meat. That comes later. But food meat, which he enjoyed. Pork, steak, ribs, chicken, all of that... Though he questioned how this kind of food existed in the Pokemon world, it was good food anyway, right? He would try a bit of the pork and nod in approval.
Josh would roll his eyes when Izumi slid him a dish of an alcoholic beverage. "Screw you, derpette" He would tease as he would take a sip of his shot. This was going to be a short date if they got drunk...

Izumi had already gone so far as to order several more platters of the sushi rolls (because she’d practically just decimated the first one without Josh realizing what she’d done since he was too busy scoping out the rice balls) and had the first plate cleared away; before the second and third plates arrived in due course. Of course, now that she’d realized that maybe taking him to her own restaurant was a good idea, she began to get a lot more… liberal with ordering food.
“Josh, I have something to tell you. If you eat food while having an alcoholic drinking session, the presence of food in your stomach actually lessens the kick of the drunken beverage. Didn’t you know that?” she began, downing the second shot in one again and pouring herself a third serving, before casually tilting one of the plates loaded with sushi rolls towards herself and scooping them up with the wooden chopsticks.
She then chuckled at his half-assed retort before stealing a look at him; watching him take a sip out of the drinking dish she’d slid his way. “Come on, don’t be such a chicken. The food’s not going to come alive and attack you, it’s just food. So stop worrying about stomach aches or something like that,” she continued, before casually filling up another shallow dish with soy sauce and parking that near her own personal plate of sushi rolls; the better to eat while waiting for the main courses to show up. “You really should get out more, you know,” she muttered around her current mouthful of sushi roll, before downing it with her third serving of sake.
She then tipped the bottle and poured herself another serving before casting a very furtive-looking glance around the place; it seemed that the afternoon rush had petered out and there were less people coming in and eating for now. She knew that the pace would pick up again in the early evening; and since she had Josh all to herself today, they could literally take their bloody time and not worry about anything. “Alright, how’re the rice balls?” she asked a few moments alter—it was basically the only thing he was touching, really.

Josh had noted that Izumi had done a pretty quick and crazy job of the sushi rolls. She was a sushi buff then? Huh, how did he not realize? This date had been... Interesting so far. And surprisingly, Lightning hadn't let himself out of his Pokeball the moment that food had been laid on the table. Maybe he was holding back so that he wouldn't ruin the date? He could almost feel the Pokeball squirming on his belt. He would have NOT brought Lightning, but for one reason or another, Lightning had some serious separation anxiety and Josh couldn't leave him behind. This fact was evidenced heavily at the Aqua Rally. He'd made a big scene when Josh had asked him to wait outside, nearly getting the two kicked out, and making it so Josh had to watch the proceedings from a closed off room with a monitor. Which was probably for the best considering Lightning had a way of sensing Josh's emotions... And after realizing he had been deceived by Aqua and Olivia, Lightning's emotions mirroring Josh's would probably have led to Olivia getting an unhealthy dose of a couple thousand watts of electricity; courtesy of Lightning's Thunderbolt. Not that she didn't deserve it.
"Oh really now?" Josh would inquire when Izumi would bring up the prospect that food would bring down the kick of the alcohol while digesting it. Josh had never heard that one before, and he would respond to that with a raise of the eyebrow. Was Izumi trying to coach him to drink more or something? Well, she certainly wanted to make this date interesting, didn't she? He would sigh and drink down a second shot. Might as well.
"I heard that" He said when she would mention getting out more, rolling his eyes. She would inquire about the rice balls, and he would nod. "They're good" He said as he would eat a bit more of the pork. Y'know, like he was doing when she was mentally complaining about him only eating the rice balls.

“About the ‘eating while drinking alcoholic beverages’ thing, that’s true… because my mother informed me about it when I asked her how people could handle drinking large amounts of liquor without either throwing up or going into a wild craze and not remembering what happens the next day,” she began with a solemn tone in her voice. Izumi then tipped her drinking dish down; feeling the rush of liquid course through her throat—before reaching for another one of the sushi rolls that was in front of her.
After making sure to dunk it in the dish that had since been refilled with more soy sauce, she then crammed the entire thing in her mouth—and then watched as he reached for more of the rice balls. As the food went down her pipes, she then ever-so-casually nudged the plate full of rice balls in his direction; before quickly snapping up a few more of the dumplings and piling it on her plate.
“Well, at least the rice balls are good. Most of those are crammed with meat fillings… like pork, as you’ve guessed… but there’s also beef and chicken in it too. Some of them have fish flakes as well… but in the end they’re all tasty,” she began. Before hearing two loud clattering noises land on their table. As she looked up at the table, she saw that their dishes had arrived—before she felt her eyebrows shooting up so high, they were now absolutely threatening to vanish into her hair line.
“Wait a second… you… you ordered the same thing I did?!” she began out of surprise, eyeing the two identical bowls that were now sitting in front of them. Is it just me or does this speak a different volume to me now…? She mused to herself as she then gently pushed one of the other two bowls in his direction.
She then examined hers, inhaling the scent of freshly-cooked egg simmering atop the bed of rice, before sighing in content. “This is pork fillet, breaded and cooked together with a serving of scrambled egg. Sometimes, people add green onions, or even just onion rings to it… the overall effect is just absolutely tasty,” she continued, very much intent on completing the crash course of Shui cuisine for Josh’s benefit.
“There are other versions… one version has chicken with scrambled egg, the other has marinated beef along with raw egg yolk atop it. Now, the raw egg yolk is definitely a thing… but if you mix it with the beef it makes complete sense,” she added, before clapping her hands together and then beginning to sink into her bowl of absolutely delicious-smelling food.

The blonde laughed in response to Izumi's explanation about alcohol. "Are you trying to get me drunk for our date, Zuzu?" He would tease, giving her a playful nudge from close range. Which of course, was her fault since she had decided to sneak herself as close to Josh as humanly possible, something Josh saw the full scope of while he had been playfully nudging her. As the main course would arrive, Josh would raise an eyebrow as Izumi would freak out over them ordering the same things. "Uhh... Izumi?" Josh would begin, facepalming. "Listen, you're a smart girl but... I literally just pointed out the order to you to translate to them. You ordered for me, how did you NOT know?" He would ask, shaking his head. My lord, Izumi, how did you not? You ordered the damn thing!
He would let out a sigh, and just listen as Izumi would list off the food. He decided to give the stuff with other meats a try.... Why not, right? At least then, she couldn't complain about him only eating rice balls. And he was a meat person anyway. Not just for booty meat, I mean.
ANYWAY, he decided to give the pork fillet a shot...
Post by Izumi Yamamura on Feb 20, 2015 3:54:43 GMT -5
While Izumi was trying to comprehend the irony in the current situation, she then listened to his retort regarding the same order that had been delivered to their table and could only suppress a giggle. “Well, I thought you were indicating something else to be fair. You were pointing at another picture. But hey, this looks mighty tasty; it has fried egg mixed in with it. I hope you don’t mind all the onions though,” she began, sticking her tongue out at him before reaching for her own bowl and then clapping her hands before saying something out loud. After she was done, she then quickly reached for another one of the empty side dishes and carefully transferred the pork cuts to it; because the bed of rice underneath needed to cool down.
Now that she had a better look of the thing, she then saw that the sauces of the breaded fillet had seeped down into the rice, giving it an absolutely heavenly smell. “And they say this stuff is weird. Well, they don’t know what they’re missing out on,” she said to nobody in particular, before expertly maneuvering her chop sticks in order to separate one slice of the fillet and laid it atop the bed of fragrant-smelling rice. “Mmm, delish,” she remarked, before quickly scooping out an appropriate serving of rice and shoveling it inside her mouth first, before snapping up the fillet and taking a bite from it. Now that there was more food in her stomach, the slightly woozy feeling that had been bothering her ever since she took her fourth shot of alcoholic drink was wearing off.
“If I were you, it’s best to eat it while it’s hot,” she added a few moments later, looking sideways at Josh, before quickly sinking into the bowl. If one was to observe, there was nothing but a flurry of movement; from the side-dish where the fillets were placed; and then back to the bowl. There was also an occasional raising of a drinking dish; because who knew that Izumi was really that hungry, the way she was eating it all up as fast as she could humanly manage?!

"If you misunderstood me, how did you order the right things then?" He would inquire toward her with a smirk. He'd caught her red handed right there, and would playfully nudge her for lying, even if he didn't approve of lying. "Zuzu~ You know I don't like lying~" He would tease, giving her a little pinch on the side. Playfully, but also a warning. A warning about lying, but also that he might pinch her somewhere else next time... Lie or not. Pffft.
"Yeah, not a fan of onions" He admitted. "Because onions and ogres are very similar. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers. They must be distant cousins or something. I don't know about eating an ogre" He would joke with a smirk. "Seriously though, never been a fan of the taste" He said as he would gently pluck the onions out of his dish before digging in. Josh had already begun eating while it was hot... Though he wondered how long before a certain Lightning Mouse came to crash the date.
Post by Izumi Yamamura on Feb 21, 2015 7:18:13 GMT -5
“Pfffft,” she would retort in his direction; before getting a nudge and a pinch for her earlier retort. “Well, can you blame me, I just showed them what you wanted; I pointed at the picture—and I didn’t know that I’d end up getting the same thing as you,” she added, before hearing his rather… interesting discourse on the subject of onions. She could only guess as to why he didn’t like the things, but for good measure, as soon as he’d started peeling them out of his bowl, she quickly snatched them up and added them to her own.
“Heh, another man’s trash is my own treasure,” she remarked simply, before continuing to shovel food into her mouth at what appeared to be the speed of light. Of course, Izumi was already guessing where the hell Lightning was. Normally he’d show up with the Pika in tow; but there was a problem—she hadn’t seen hide nor hair of the Lightning Mouse yet. She knew that he would never leave the Pika behind—so where was he, in his containment unit?
But I know that his Pika isn’t a fan of staying too long inside a PokeBall… so I’m rather confused… where is he hiding?! She mused to herself. Eventually, all good things would come to an end; and she continued to look furtively around Josh, half-expecting the Pika to make an appearance any second now; before returning her attention to her bowl of food. Several minutes later, it was gone; and she could still hear the grumbling; so with a quick raise of her hand, she then heard one of the waitresses scramble over to their booth; and without thinking, she’d ordered several more food items for her to chow down on; before casually handing the bowl to the waitress to take back to the kitchen.
“What?” she began with an innocent look on her face; while watching Josh eat. “I’m still hungry,” she added with a shrug of her shoulders.

"Riiight..." He said, rolling his eyes and chuckling. Of course Izumi would respond with that. Had to make an excuse somehow, he supposed, right? The blonde would chuckle, and as he watched Izumi begin to scoop up all the onions that he peeled off, he would do her a favor and start shuffling any onions left over to her, helping her out and giving her all that were on there. If she liked them so much, well... Might as well, right?
It was too late to stop it now. The Pikachu couldn't take the smell of good food anymore, as one of the Pokeballs on Josh's belt would open and the Pikachu would let himself out. "Pika!" Lightning chirped as he stared up at Josh, practically begging for his food to be shared. Josh laughed a bit and patted him on the head. "Alright, alright. I think we ordered a bit too much anyway, and Izumis ordering even more" He said, before sliding a bit of food over to Lightning, which the Pikachu dug into ravenously.
Meanwhile, Josh would dig into the food he was already eating before.
Post by Izumi Yamamura on Feb 23, 2015 8:11:13 GMT -5
She then chuckled as Josh began to shuffle over all of the rest of the onions that was in his bowl towards hers; which she accepted rather gratefully. “Thanks for all the onions… but then you’d have to deal with me and my onion breath sooner or later,” she chuckled, before pouring herself yet another serving of alcoholic sake and continuing to power through the remains of what was her share of the meal.
Her niggling suspicions came to light; because true enough, one of the containment units on Josh’s belt burst open and then brought forward the Pikachu in a burst of red light. “Why did I know you were going to make an eventual appearance, sooner or later?” she began, pointing her chopsticks in the Pika’s direction; before blinking—because there were now several waiters converging on their booth and loading down the table with as much food as they could!
“Oh, lookie. More food for us to chow down on,” she began, immediately reaching for the second bowl of breaded pork fillet topped with scrambled egg; and then commencing to eat once more. There were some skewers of beef, pork, and chicken on sticks; as well as several more platters of sushi rolls and several more orders of rice balls; and to top it all off there was one more rice bowl; this one contained the marinated beef topped with sesame seeds and a raw egg yolk—and yes, the gyudon bowl was for Izumi.
The meat skewers were mostly meant for ‘in case of emergency’ (well it already appeared) and the additional sushi rolls and rice balls were for just in case Josh wanted more of the rice balls. “Come on, keep eatin’ and be merry!” she muttered around the mouthful of katsudon that she was eating (the pork fillet bowl in her hands).

"Pfft. Not like I haven't dealt with your onion breath already, silly billy" He would tease, nudging her playfully. "And I'll probably have to deal with it if we're going to be roomies, right? I mean, you'll have to deal with my shenanigans too, I'm sure you'll be driven just as batty as I will" He would tease before laughing at Izumi's reaction to the Pikachu showing up during their dinner date. As Lightning dug into his food, Josh smirked over at Izumi, especially when the waiters would converge upon their table with piles upon piles of food. "Zu, you've ordered so much, I think Lightning can afford to dig in" He pointed out with a smirk as he would dig in himself. "And by the looks of it? So can I"
And with that, they all dug into what food they could. Josh had gotten less picky by the looks of it, trying out the differing cuisines of Shui to see what he liked most. As for Lightning? He didn't care. Whatever they put in front of him, he knocked it into his tummy like a bottomless pit. As the food began to disappear, Josh would take a good drink of the alcoholic beverage before really taking a moment to survey the carnage.
"So..." He began, eying Izumi. "Where do we go after we're done here? We've got all day"

“You must’ve been mistaken, J,” she said initially as the waiters started leaving more and more plates of food on the table. “I can eat my way through most of this. Don’t ask how the hell I can put it away. When you gotta eat, you gotta eat,” she added, chuckling rather immoderately as she then reached for an entire platter of sushi rolls and refilled the small dish beside her with soy sauce. “Bottoms up,” she added with a grin as she then began dunking piece after piece of sushi into the soy sauce and munching down on them in one go. Thankfully, the Pikachu was taking to the spread really well—in fact he was already attacking what appeared to be the meat skewers!
Once the katsudon bowl had been emptied, she then set it down to one side before reaching for the gyudon bowl and mixing in the contents; and then sinking her teeth into the luscious-smelling spread that had been laid out on their table. Sooner or later, she’d notice that Josh was now attempting to taste a bit of everything; which was a good thing in itself because there was a lot of food on the table! Even the Pikachu was getting in on the fun; due to all the food that had suddenly arrived. It was like a banquet; really. After a while, most of the dishes on the table were emptied; mostly due to hers and the Pikachu’s efforts to stuff away as much as humanly possible. “Well…” she began, before suddenly getting an idea—hopefully he didn’t mind.
“Well, since I already introduced myself to your mum; and she practically treats me like family now that I’m hanging around you… want to meet my own mum? Her place is somewhere in this city, so no need to wander too far. She knows about you, but has yet to actually meet you in the flesh,” she muttered around another mouthful of sushi; because there were just so many plates of them on their table!
