Josh scratched his head, letting out a sigh. "I'll admit, I feel cheated as well. I feel like we learned nothing from all of that. Just that no matter how good we got, if you cheap it out or cheat, you'll win more often then not. Thieves win, cheaters prosper. All that and a bag of chips. It's despicable, disgusting, if you ask me. But that's the breaks" He said, looking away. "For now, we have to focus on this, not what's happened in the past. One day, we'll go back there again, and when we do, we'll win..." He said.
He would put a hand on her shoulder, then pull her into a tight hug. "If you give up, you've lost... Have you not?" He would ask her calmly. "Don't give in... Or all the effort you put into it will be for nothing" He said as he would release her and look around at the flowers. He would look back at her, and smirk. "Yeah, I've got just about enough, between Lightning and me. Whenever you're ready"

“I don’t know… I just… meh, I’m not even sure if I should still continue being a Trainer. The restaurant’s going well, at least it is, and more and more people are flocking to it. So that, at least, is a sign that things are looking up…somewhat. But I still have a lot more of the little ones to raise, to prove myself, but then… you know what hurts? The blow to one’s confidence… if you ask me, my self-confidence has dipped so low I’m not even sure you can get me back out…” she muttered, finally letting the tears that she’d been trying to hide for so long silently pour down her face. “Them’s the breaks, and that sucks. I’ve been trying to find a reason to get over that but yeah. Need help getting cheered up,” she continued, before realizing that Josh wasn’t exactly in front of her anymore—in fact he’d gone in close and felt his hand on her shoulder—before her balance was completely shot and she was pulled into another hug, flowers and all.
She didn’t care if she’d almost stepped on his feet or anything (or even if Lightning was watching the little scene unfold), all that was important was that she was now enveloped in his figure; and she could hear soothing words over all the rush of emotions that she was now trying to fight back. she just let his voice wash over her—and if he was quick to notice, she let a few of the stray tears fall down, dripping onto his clothes. Izumi then wished he’d not notice what she’d done, as he backed away and cracked a smirk at the armload that she was holding with her left hand. “Come on, let’s go back and make the wreath before all of these wilt,” she continued, wiping her face surreptitiously with the back of her right arm and then leading the way back to the festival grounds once again.

The blonde would let out a somber sigh as he heard Izumi tear herself and her own confidence apart. The poor girl was seriously considering even remaining as a Trainer? Just because they got cheated? "Oh come on, Izumi" He said, holding her close. "Seriously, that battle wasn't even fair. You can't judge your prowess as a Trainer based off of that" He remarked, shaking his head. "It was an unfair fight, and you know it. All you can do is get better and challenge them again, and hope to overcome that disadvantage" He sighed, cradling the girl in his arms. "Just breathe in, breathe out... Relax..." He said as the Pikachu would leap onto them and try to join in the hug, arms full of flowers and all. Josh would laugh a bit. "Looks like Lightning doesn't want to see you be sad either" He said, noticing the tears in her eyes, dripping, with his own eyes keen. Before Izumi could wipe them away, she would find them gone prior, with the blonde having decided to brush away her tears with a smile.
"Aye, it's best we go before these wilt" Josh said, breaking the embrace as he and the Pikachu would head back to their planned stage of destination.

Now that they were heading back towards the event center—where loads of people were now headed too, laden down with armloads full of various-colored flowers—she then realized that out of most of the yellow and white that she was seeing, and some snippets of orange; that theirs was the only red out of the entire bunch. Wondering if the red ones were even supposed to be part of the ones that were allowed to be plucked, she then made her way over to a table that was giving away the necessary items needed to make the wreaths, and after requesting enough for two (and a half, because she knew that Josh would end up asking for a little small thing for Lightning as well) she then turned back to face him, her face still wet.
“Look at it this way. Battling and I were never meant to go together.I don’t know. I just realized that. People too battle-hungry and all that. Sparring is still fine with me, yes; but anything harsher than that is just… no. Definitely not. Because… why can’t we settle things without going too technical?” she muttered, finally getting the two paper bags that were filled with the items that they needed in order to make the floatable wreaths for later. She then continued to look around, trying to find a place where there weren’t too many people—and saw that some of the grassy inlets weren’t too crowded; yet still dotted with people here and there, busy fashioning their wreaths away from the general throng of the crowd.
“Come on. Let’s go over there. It’s much more quieter to assemble these things in peace…” she muttered quietly, hoping that her companion could hear her words.

As the duo; well... Trio, travelled back toward the event center - where the blonde noted had quite a bit of a crowd, Josh took a breath and kept his flowers close to his chest, knowing full well that the "rush" usually ended up in stolen goods, whether they be expensive goods or simple flowers. Human greed was a travesty, but an incredibly, and tragically; common one. He also noted that they had apparently only plucked red flowers. Whoops? The trip would make their way over to a table that was handing out in a giveaway; the items they would need for turning these flowers into wreaths. He noted Izumi's ordering of two and a half wreaths, and smiled faintly. Lightning would be thrilled.
The blonde frowned at her statement and shook his head. "Well Zuzu, if you're going to judge based off the one battle... Maybe you're not meant for being a Trainer" He stated flatly, looking her dead in the eyes. "Because Pokemon Trainers don't give up just because of a loss. And while you're giving up... I'm not" He stated, never taking his eyes off of her. "This has always been my dream, and whether you're coming with me or not, I'm going back to the Tower when I've recharged and recovered. I will kick the pants out of those arrogant dicks, I'm going to find out just how to mega evolve my Pokemon... And then I'm going to have a stronger bond with them then ever. And maybe then, you'll see just what being a Pokemon Trainer is about. If I have to show you, in order to keep you from making a stupid decision... Then so be it" He said as he would turn and head to where she had pointed to, sitting down in a quiet area to make the wreaths.

She knew that he’d ask her why she didn’t get extra materials for the Pikachu, and had already headed that off once she led the way holding two large paper bags, before peering into them. She then noticed that there were some extra pieces snuck in; most likely it had been skimmed from another participant’s items; and she smiled faintly at the subtle request she’d put in earlier. Once they’d gotten to a quieter place and settled down, she then took out the materials and began to spread it out across the paper bag; counting how much wiring, bamboo sticks and all the other materials were (and then setting aside the extras for the Pika’s wreath). “You might want to check the items first. They gave us some extra, that’s for his wreath,” she mentioned, indicating the Pikachu.
After she’d gotten everything all panned out and working, she then snatched up something that looked like an instruction manual and began getting to work, still weighing the choices of what she’d talked about with him earlier. “Look at it this way, J,” she began after a few moments of silence, while her hands were trying to fashion the base of the wreath while trying to measure out the appropriate length of wire that needed to be cut in order to lash it all together, “…the only time I won was once, in this summer gig back in Hoenn. That’s how I met Angel; but I’d have to say it was a bit of luck on my side. Is it bad to chase after a victory only to fall short each time?” she recounted, her mind flashing back to the other battles—all of them had ended in stalemates or outright loss.
The second attempt was a bit too fresh in her mind, so she’d shoved it out of the way as soon as those particular memories came flashing back. “…they’re arrogant bags and dicks; that much I can say. I don’t know why we… well, I seem to get the bad end of the stick most of the time. Is it too much to ask what the feeling of victory is like, only to have it taken away from you at the very last second?” she continued, this time in a quieter tone. “Battles against wild ‘mons doesn’t count for me at least, because we’re the ones who get jumped on and are forced to defend ourselves… battling against other people seems to be…that, just that,” she trailed off, snapping off a piece of wire and tying the first half of the wreath’s base together; before analyzing it for a bit and then snorting.
“I lost to Roxanne, I lost to that waiter guy in Striaton, and twice I’ve been unceremoniously kicked out for something that I’m not particularly inclined to doing. Pray tell, is hanging out and just…being together with your companions, bonding in ways other than getting all roughed up not enough for them? Are people really that battle-hungry? Or thirsty, if you may?” she muttered, reaching for another thin stretch of bamboo and bending it so that it formed the other half of the wreath that she was now working on constructing.

Josh was grateful that Izumi had gotten the extra wreath making materials for Lightning. And obviously, so was the Pikachu when Josh would hand him the extra materials and mention what it was for, as he would let out a "Pikaaaa~" In absolute joy and glee. The look of joy on the Pikachu's face brought a warm smile to Josh's. It was... Nice, seeing Lightning so happy after all the things that had happened lately. The Aqua Rally, Richissime... Being reminded constantly of that old life that he so much wanted them both to forget... The events were fresh in his mind for a moment and made him feel quite somber, but he would push them out temporarily in order to focus on this. This.... This was much more important.
As he and Lightning worked on their wreaths Josh listened to Izumi's explanation. He would let her finish, wholly, and let out a sigh. "Well Izumi... Let me put it this way. That's what makes them happy and content as a Trainer. If being egotistical and above everyone helps them sleep at night, so be it. But... That's not all what being a Trainer is about. You don't get it. Hanging out and being together with your Pokemon, bonding in ways that other people can never imagine... Meeting people and making friends that share your passions... An adventure that you can't get doing any other profession... That's what being a Pokemon Trainer is about. At least to me" He said with a comforting smile. "I don't care how many competitions I win. I don't care if I never win a badge, which I probably never will. But that wasn't why I became a Trainer. And it will never be why I became a Trainer" He explained, chuckling a bit. "It was never about my ego... It was always about my Pokemon"
Post by Izumi Yamamura on Jan 30, 2015 5:15:10 GMT -5
She could only chuckle at his retort about not being able to win any badges at all, and shared the same sentiment. “What do you expect? The top-tier people out there have nothing but battle on their minds… it’s more than enough to drive me mad,” she nodded, agreeing with the statement; while placing emphasis on the word “mad” at the same time. What was it with victory that drove most people crazy anyway? Was there something in it for them? How about the people that got crushed underfoot?“I mean, I don’t know…” she continued a few moments later, after finally managing to bend the bamboo into the other half of the wreath she was making and beginning to lash it together with the supplied wire, “…but for them it’s all just ones and zeroes. Well in this case, nothing but plans, plans, plans. When I started out, I was just originally itching to travel around… and travel I did,” she remarked, reaching for the wire cutter and snapping off the twisted length of wire that lashed the entire thing together.
While keeping her hands busy with constructing the wreath—it was slow going, but definitely good for destressing, she continued. “Look, alright, I’ll tell you something. I used to be part of a Team before. Nothing like Rocket or Magma,” she added hastily to the train of thought, before continuing, “…although we never got to do much off the ground; we were supposed to become what the Interpol’s like now. I just decided to go around and busy myself with raising all the minions until the right time came. Remember our first meeting? The very, very first meeting we ever had? I was still a member of the group back then. Well, now I’m just a plain ol’ ornery… individual who raises ‘mons with lots of love—some of it tough—but love nonetheless,” she ended quietly, hoping that the little revelation didn’t shock him.
“Well, anyway, after our little hanging at the hot springs in Lavaridge, the Team disbanded, and by then I was just back to… well, if you could call this ‘normal’ then yeah,” she ended quietly, her hands busy with lashing more wires and bamboo rods together—because she only had the thin base frame of the thing she was attempting to construct. After gathering more sticks and attempting to tie it together, she then continued, “So what do you think about me now…” while trying to lash everything together to form the wreath’s body—long, slow, but definitely very rewarding work.

"I wouldn't call them top tier" he would respond; looking over at Izumi as he worked. "Yeah. They're good at the part of being a Trainer they do. But many Trainers who are obsessed with that aspect of it do not have the compassion to be what many would call a true Pokemon Trainer" he said. "While the definition of a true Trainer varies from person to person, the common conception involves bonds. Trust. Love and care. Those "top tiers" you speak of, many of them lack that, and only see ther Pokemon as tools for their ego, their goals. Winning is on their mind, and if their Pokemon doesn't measure up... Well, you won't see it again most likely" he said.
Josh would listen to Izumi's little revelation. While suspicious at first, he would smirk a bit when she compared it to Interpol. While he had his doubts it was just like the international police; he saw what she meant. He knew that Izumi was hanging on to whatever he might say next, so he thought long and hard about what he would say in response to such a delicate subject..::
"So, did you get a cute little midriff-exposing uniform to show off to everybody?" He would tease. Damnit snarkinator:

She didn’t know what he was going to say about the little revelation that she’d dropped on him like a bomb; but however it was going to happen, she’d take it with grace. Wondering what was taking so long for him to come up with a suitable reply; she continued to busy herself by lashing together more of the bamboo with wire; and hoping that the whole darned thing would just hold up without actually sinking. She nodded at his initial overview of the other Trainers who couldn’t resist the urge of battling; before thinking of something to reply in regards to the way they did things. “People can get swept up right away in battles… gets them boiling. But really, why can’t we be called Trainers and yet we shower everyone with love? Is that wrong to them?” she began, shuddering at the mental image that popped into her mind at a certain point in his statement.
After managing to make the base of the wreath much thicker on an even scale, she then blinked and then held it out, examining Josh through the circular hole in the middle. “First I drop that little bomb on you, your initial reaction is asking me if we got dinky, girly, risqué uniforms? Sorry to burst your bubble, J. We operated undercover—as incognito as possible,” she retorted with a smirk, before weighing the thing she was crafting in her hands. After noticing that one side was still slightly heavier than the other, she then proceeded to strip away a few more pieces of bamboo, before weighing it again—and it then stabilized in her hands. “Well, there we go. Mine’s done. Just have to pretty it up with the green wrap and stuff…” she continued with a satisfied look on her face, admiring the handiwork she’d done.

"I don't even think they realize they're doing wrong" Josh admitted with a sigh to her talk of competitive Trainers. "All they wanna do is win, win, win... They don't care about their Pokemon as much as you or me. It's just about being the very best, that no one ever was. To catch them is their real test, to train them is their cause. Travelling across the land, searching far and wide. Do you hear love, or compassion, or bonding in that? No, you don't. And that's because it's not their focus. Sure, I'm sure there's some Trainers who do both... But that's a very small minority, unfortunately. I battle because it allows me to bond with my Pokemon, and allows me to grow as a Trainer. It doesn't matter to me how many badges I have, or how many Championships I've won... That's... Just not me. That's other people, but it's not me"
As Josh worked on his wreath, as well as making sure Lightning was going alright, he snickered a bit to her response to his inquiry about the uniform of her little organization. "Sorry, I just had to ask if you guys were like the Rocket and Aqua girls. Y'know, with those cute little risque uniforms that show off the belly. Gotta show off some skin, y'know?" He cracked cheekily. Josh would correct a few errors on his, and begin finishing touches.
"Yeah.. I'm not as good at this stuff as you" He said with a laugh in terms of the wreaths. "I'll get it as I go"

Izumi could only…blink, as the words he began to communicate sounded like they came out of a catchy song or something. Wondering if he’d noticed the delightful irony as much as she did, she kept quiet until he was done speaking his piece—at which point she’d already gotten started with wrapping the green piece of what looked like to be leftover Christmas décor around the weird base of the wreath that she’d managed to cobble together.
“J, you do realize that you were just about ready to break out into song at your first statement?” she began with a grin appearing on her face as she continued to wrap around the green…thing around the frame. As she was approximately one-fourths of the way done, she then checked to see his progress, and got a quip from him.
“Well, I have to learn how to make a great deal of things. Just that, making wreaths are…on the easier side of the scale,” she remarked, taking a look at what he had going. After seeing that his looked somewhat lopsided as compared to her finished product, she then set hers down on the paper bag that contained her items before crawling over to his location, and taking it gently from his hands. “Look, the weight on your right side is slightly heavier than that on the left,” she pointed out, indicating that he’d used a bit too much bamboo on the right as compared to the left.
“Even if bamboo is light, if it’s not balanced it’ll list to one side. Or worse, sink,” she continued, before reaching for a few more pieces of wood to pad out the left side accordingly, and lashed it together with some of the wire that he’d uncoiled. “You have to test out how it feels in your hands—if it’s too heavy or too light, you have to adjust accordingly,” she added, hoping that he was listening.
Of course, she didn’t let the snark about the uniforms slide, and she then elbowed him in the side. “Do you think I have skin to expose? You might be surprised and just see muscles on me instead,” she retorted with a smirk on her face.

"Shhhh" He muttered, giving her a playful smack on the rear in response. "I was not. It just happened to work with what I was saying!" Josh would tease. "I mean, we all live, practically, in a Pokemon World. Obviously, someone's going to want to be the master of them all" He punned. Puns puns puns, stop the puns.
No, the puns will never end. Gotta pun em all.
"Oh?" Josh let out as Izumi would point out that one of the sides of his wreath was uneven. He would look over and notice that Lightning had somehow been doing his perfectly. "So today is the day that I get schooled in wreath-making by a Pikachu" He cracked. "Pikachu~" Lightning would respond, seeming amused by the situation. "Alright, alright" Josh said as he would get to fixing it, ripping out some of the bamboo to try and make it even.
Of course, Izumi wasn't one to let the uniform thing slide. "Oh, I've seen you half naked already, remember?" He cracked back at her. "I've seen everything"

In retaliation to her retort, she’d gotten a smack on the rear side; before she pulled a face in his direction and sticking her tongue out in response to what he’d done. “You were most definitely saving that for what you said earlier; that was the worst pun you could ever toss, you know,” she began after a few moments of silence; before Lightning had joined her and also began pointing out that his master’s wreath was definitely starting to look absolutely lopsided. She then smirked in triumph, before crossing her hands and then making her way back to where her partially-decorated wreath awaited; and picked up the thing and began to wind the rest of the green stuff around it, the more to make it look as natural as possible.
“Pfffft, it was steamy in the hot springs, so I doubt that counts. I only soaked in there with a swimsuit; of course I still got some level of modesty left,” she retorted with a smirk as she then stretched out the long, green, prickly ‘boa’ and continued to wind it around the bamboo-comprised frame. “You didn’t see nothing too much yet,” she continued, smirking; before remembering that there was a batch of…scars that were still fresh on her mind. Shoving that thought out of the box, she then continued to wind the thing around the frame in silence; stopping only when it was almost wrapped in the green thing. “See, Lightning knows how it’s done, look at your handiwork,” she remarked with a chuckle; watching as the thing in his hands was slowly but surely taking shape as well.

Josh smirked a bit. "Be careful, or you're getting another ass smack" He teased playfully, sticking out his tongue right back at her. Josh would sigh then as he would keep working on his blasted wreath. He'd been schooled by a "lady" and a mouse. Joy. But he kept working at it. It was a good distraction from all the things that had happened lately. The Tower... Getting ducked and led on and rejected by a Gym Leader that promised a challenge but never came through. The struggles of moving. The fire that nearly cost him many of his Pokemon. His thoughts lately about Izumi and the nature of their friendship... A lot of things swam through the blonde's mind, but this was a good distraction, the smashing of the material as he lightened it, trying to balance it best as possible.
He smirked faintly when she brought up the swimsuit. "Yeah. Yet" He teased. Was Izumi teasing him? That sounded like a subtle flirt, but he didn't acknowledge it too much. He would look over at Lightning and smirk as he got to wrapping, seeing Lightning was almost done as well. "Beaten by a Pikachu"
