"Izumi, I've faced that and more" He said with a smirk. "I could show you the scars, but then I'd have to take my shirt off and then my mother would be scowling at me for showing a woman myself exposed without my shirt" He snarked, looking at Serena who, indeed, was scowling at him. He would nod a bit to her next words. "Aye, it might be better to just wait till we get to the new ranch" He said with a smirk. "Trust me, will be easier on you guys. And hey, it's a new region. What's not great about that, right?" He asked.
His mother would frown a bit, looking down. Josh noticed it, but she'd pipe back up quickly before he could question it. "Well..." She began as she helped Izumi set the table. "You're always welcome to come visit, or stay the night Izumi, if you need a place to stay with all you're doing. We don't mind, really" She said as she set a few more cakes on the table.

Izumi felt her ears immediately burn red at the mention of Josh taking his shirt off—but thankfully his mother was there, so the potentially awkward situation was averted. She then chuckled as she saw his mother’s scowl on her face while giving her son a rather nasty look; and she knew that it was for the best. She could still feel her ears burning red; but thankfully the topic was averted rather quickly. Leave it to him to change the mood rather quickly… alright, you can stop blushing now, ears. Please. That was totally embarrassing… she thought, and slowly the heat that had rushed to her ears ebbed away, before she continued to scrub away at the rather large pile of dishes that they’d ended up using in order to prepare for the feast.
Some ten minutes later, she was finally done—and the rather small sink was piled up with a rather artistic… “attempt” at Izumi trying to make sure all of the dishes got dried out before keeping them back in the drawers. “Erk. Sorry, my bad,” she apologized sheepishly, stepping back and gabbing a dry hand towel in order to be able to wipe her hands down. “I can’t help it. But hey, at least we have lesser dishes to worry about…” she added with a chuckle before placing the hand towel down and helping his mother set up the table for… four. Not for three, because Izumi was hoping that a certain custom that her family practiced would be observed, and hopefully this little gesture wouldn’t backfire on her.

Josh smirked a bit when he saw he had succeeded in embarrassing Izumi. Jackpot. But he would stop when his mother gave him the nasty look that she had. He was sure that Izumi was grateful for the change in topic, judging by the redness on her ears. Ten minutes later, dinner seemed to be just about ready, though Josh raised an eyebrow at Izumi's... Rather artistic attempt to clean the dishes in the small sink. Serena furrowed a brow, but her gaze softened... They were just kids, after all. Kids that had to grow up far too quickly. She could forgive, she supposed and gave a soft smile. "I'll fix it, don't worry" She promised softly as she got to work, handing her the dry towel for drying herself before getting to work on fixing any sort of mess that Izumi had succeeded in accomplishing.
Both Josh and his mother had noticed that Izumi had set up the table for... Four. Neither of them realized it was a custom, and Serena was the first to speak up. "Oh no, no, Izumi dear, I appreciate the thought, but you don't have to go through the trouble for four... We're not having any other guests, dear, just us three" She said softly, not wanting Izumi to work anymore then she already had.
"Pika!" Someone chirped as Lightning came in through the window. The first thing the bandana Pikachu saw was the foot, and as soon as he saw it had been set for four despite there only being three... He happily made himself the fourth participant and hopped onto the fourth seat. Josh looked over, and he started laughing. "Oh, Lightning" He said, patting him on the head. Serena could help but laugh as well. "He's just like the Pikachu your father once had" She said, reaching over and scratching behind Lightning's ears, to the little Pikachu's delight. This was the first time Josh had ever heard his mother speak of his father in quite some time, and the first time she had ever mentioned him with a guest around. This was also the first time she had ever compared Lightning to his father's Raichu... Raichu was a sore spot for everyone, he knew that. She would reach down and scratch his chin, and her hand grazed a weird bumpy hard spot on his bandana. She raised an eyebrow, putting a hand on the spot.
"... What is this?" She would ask, looking to Josh for an explanation. Josh scratched his head as he examined it, and nodded. "That's... A Thunder Stone, mom" Josh explained. "Why is it in his bandana?" Serena would ask curiously, a tilt of the head and a concerned face made it obvious that Josh hadn't told her of his decision. "Well, you see..." Josh began, taking a breath as he would help set the table. "I told you before that Lightning and I were still indecisive on him evolving. Well... We had a talk with Izumi, and with Maxine... And after I found a Thunderstone, I decided to... Well, just give it to him. Wrap it in his bandana. It's not too hard for Lightning to untie, but tight enough that it won't hit him by accident. I... I can't choose when he evolves. That's not my right, even as his Trainer. Lightning has just as much a right to choose as I do. So.. I left the decision to him" He explained. "When Lightning wants to evolve... He picks the time and place. If he doesn't want to... Well, the option is always there" He said quietly.
Serena would nod, and Josh noticed a visible bite of her lip. Josh tilted his head, a bit worried. Serena would notice, and smile sadly. "A Raichu... A Raichu is a big responsibility" She said as she scratched Lightning's chin. "But they'll defend you until the very end. You know that lesson well. I want you to make sure you take care of Lightning. I know your father would be proud of you for it, and for what you've done already with him... Wherever he is" She said quietly as she then went back to setting the table without another word.
Josh frowned. He was starting to connect the dots... Was his mother hesitant to leave? He realized it now... Yes, she was hesitant. Why wouldn't she be? Even if it had been about a year... She still didn't want to risk leaving her husband behind when he could still be out in Hoenn somewhere... But, at this rate... They just might be waiting forever if they stayed here and kept waiting for him to return. And he would want them to expand the ranch...

Izumi had originally intended for the empty spot to be the representation for ‘absent loved ones’, but then the Pikachu that she’d gotten so used to seeing hanging around Josh suddenly appeared at a window, before hopping in and joining them for the feast! She then continued to observe the interaction between mother, son and the Pika, and it was like she was seeing another aspect of Josh entirely—normally he was into sassing and snarking her all the way, but when faced with his mother (and mentions of the missing head of the household) it was like a complete turnaround in terms of how he presented himself. Wait a second, so she doesn’t know about the thing about Lightning’s decision yet? She thought to herself, also helping to set up the table while trying not to listen in too hard—otherwise she’d be coming off as a snoop.
She was sorely tempted to pitch in, but decided to keep quiet about it—and continued to set up the table for three (and a half, since Lightning wasn’t technically a heavy eater—or was he, looks could be deceiving) and some five minutes later, the table was all set; ready for the occasion at hand. “Uhhm,” she began, hoping that she wasn’t interrupting anything, before clearing her throat. “So today, at least, was a surprise thing. I wasn’t exactly expecting to come over—in fact I thought it was Josh who would be coming over to Lavaridge and having dinner with me, but then again, I realized that he couldn’t leave you all alone, not on this special day. My mom’s gone to Lilycove to have dinner with my father, so I have no worries about that… well, shall we get started on our dinner?” she said, hoping that she wasn’t worrying too much over something shallow.

Serena smiled at Izumi when she spoke. Neither of them knew about her customs, and she didn't bring them up. Oh well, more for Lightning, who actually was quite the eater. He was less of one when he was a Pichu, but as a Pikachu? Ohhhh boy, prepare your tables. "Thank you for coming over, Izumi" She said politely. "I do appreciate the company, though I do apologize that you couldn't spend christmas with your parents. We could invite them here if you like?" She suggested. Josh smirked a bit and moved a bit more food to Lightning's plate when they weren't looking. Unlike Izumi, he knew that Lightning liked to eat as much as the others did... If not more. He was still like a child in that regard.
Afterword, Josh would take his seat, and Serena would return with the high chair, and helping Lightning into it. "Pika!" Lightning chirped in thanks. Oh boy, food time!

“Oh, no, it’s no matter. They’re…going through something I’d rather not get involved in,” she began hastily at his mother’s offer. She didn’t want to just bring her personal issues to the table either—that her parents were in the middle of a nasty phase that she’d rather not stick her nose in right now. Something about her father flirting with the younger ladies in the Lilycove area, but that’s about what she knew. “It’s no biggie, really,” she continued with a reassuring tone, before finally getting the table set up—and then quirking up her face when she saw the Pikachu was now seated in a high-chair; she suspected that it was Josh’s, but decided not to ask.
“Let’s enjoy this little feast, shall we?” she continued a few moments later, seating herself down across from Lightning—that effectively had Josh and his mother at the head and end of the table, respectively. “Originally, I set the table for four; in order to honor ‘absent loved ones’ with a toast much later on, but seeing as Lightning’s there, I’m okay with Pika joining us. Much less awkward,” she added, before reaching for the food and beginning to pass it around. “Shall we eat?” she offered, before chuckling and passing her own cooking around first, the better for them to get a taste of it as early as now—for she was planning something for the future, in Nue…

Josh and Serena both raised a collective eyebrow at the mention of problems with Izumi's.... Parentage. "Uh huh..." Josh said, taking a breath. He hadn't realized or known, of course, and he couldn't have known without Izumi telling him, but he felt guilty about it. At the very least they were able to serve as some sort of distraction and keep her away from all that.... Riff raff hub bub hubba bubba jerkyshit. He wondered what was causing the issues between her parents. Hell, he wondered why she never talked about her father at all? Josh didn't talk about his much mainly due to the fact that they hadn't seen him in about a year and most likely he was dead in a ditch somewhere with a bottle of alcohol in each hand. But Izumi had never mentioned hers, only her mother. Was her father to blame for the issues? Who knows?
"Ahhh" Josh said when she mentioned her traditions, nodding. "Apologies for not respecting them" Serena would apologize politely. "We didn't know. But I hope you can enjoy Lightning's company" She said. "Pika!" Lightning chirped, not knowing about any sort of customs, he just wanted to eat with his family!
They would nod and get to scarfing food down, trying Izumi's cooking first. Josh would pass a bit to Lightning who... True to form, proved he was a big eater after all.

“What? It’s something I’d rather stay out of. I… well, I’ll tell you later after I show you my little problematic Charmeleon,” she said with a pointed look, as everyone then got to their places around the table and then began to dig into the food that had been laid out. She knew that the gesture she’d done with the pasta was simple, but meaningful—and she was not surprised to see that he’d made a beeline for the thing right off the bat! “Heh, I can tell you like my version better than the café’s… and…” she trailed off, before watching the little Pikachu, which was something less than half her own size, tucking into a plate of food that was bursting to the brim!
“Uhhh…” she began with an embarrassed grin on her face before facing his mother, and then deciding to just ask about it, “…is it just me or does his Pikachu really love eating? The only thing I’ve seen eat that much are those huge bears that have a tendency to block major roadways…” she trailed off, watching as Lightning tucked into the plate like it was nothing at all. She could only gape openly as Lightning literally powered his way through the plate, stuffing his cheeks full of the good things. “Well, he does deserve home-cooked food… after all the time of being on the road, he’s definitely earned it,” she added with a chuckle in the Pika’s direction, who was now apparently asking for seconds—and they hadn’t even gotten through their first plates of food!

Josh would tilt his head when Izumi would mention her folks and what was going on, but would nod as they kept eating. "I see..." He said, taking a breath. "Mom, could you pass a bit of the vanilla iced cake?" He would request politely to Serena, who would comply. He chuckled a bit when she mentioned her Charmeleon. "Aye, give him a bit. Of course, Fawkes could also sort him out" He said. "Maybe having him battle Fawkes could work? He has to realize that he needs to rely on you like you rely on him, or he won't get very far. If he tries to go into business for himself against Fawkes, Fawkes will swipe him down like a fly" He advised.
Josh couldn't help but laugh as he watched Lightning scarf down food like he was starving. But Izumi was right, considering how little he and Lightning ate while on the road, Lightning had every right to gorge himself here. He forgot at times how good Lightning was at hiding the fact he was a big eater while on the road. He had learned to hold his appetite there in order to survive, as well as so Josh had more money to feed him later instead of him blowing everything on one meal and then going hungry later.
At home, with mountains of food in front of him though? There was no stopping the hungry Pikachu from eating like it was his last meal. Serena laughed too, and answered Izumi's question. "Well, considering he's usually stuck with small travel food, I can't blame him for going crazy when we have a big feast like this" She said. "I'm happy he's at least eating now. While Josh feeds him enough on the road to keep him healthy, I'd rather they both eat more. I guess I'm getting my wish in a way" She said with a laugh.

“Well, I hope that whatever Ravvie is going through is just a phase and nothing too serious, otherwise I’d have major problems with her once she’s the size of Fawkes…” she trailed off, waving a fork in his direction. Watching as the Pika’s plate was piled high again with food, she then chuckled and then continued to dig into her own creation, tasting the flavors every so often and seemingly trying to articulate something but choosing not to at the last few seconds. At his mother’s quip, she then broke out into a fit of the giggles, before trying to sneak a look at Josh—he was also eating like a dead-starved Hiker.
“Looks like the human takes after the Pokémon… or is it the other way around?” she added a few moments later, after seeing the contented look on his mother’s face at the sight of the two eating with much gusto. She then reached for some of the sliced meats that had been fried prior to her arrival and piled them onto her plate, before passing the pasta around even more; making sure that the two got more than she did—and then also reached for the already-sliced cake and cut herself a piece off of it. “You should try the chocolate and the strawberry cakes that I brought down for the visit, Mrs. Dra—well, is it okay if I call you Serena?” she asked a few moments later, potentially realizing that addressing her by her proper name all the time was going to be extremely awkward, either way.
Post by Josh Dragomir on Jan 7, 2015 23:21:33 GMT -5
Serena smiled faintly. "Oh, I'm sure it's just a phase. Josh's Charmeleon was the same. Wouldn't listen to him one bit. He was a bit of a bully too, and a serious grump. He didn't get along with most of the other Pokemon... BUT, deep down, there was that little soft spot in his heart that made him protect the younger Pokemon. He went from the bully to the hero if someone hurt or bullied the younger Pokemon, and he would jump to their defence the moment he saw it. Deep down, Fawkes was a little sweetheart, and he ended up becoming like a protector for the babies" She explained. Meanwhile, yes, Josh and Lightning were pigging out a bit, but considering their eating schedule, could you blame them?
To Izumi's teasing, Josh and Lightning, simultaneously, stuck their tongues out at Izumi. "Hey, we don't get to eat good food often. Take it as a compliment" He joked cheekily with a grin. Serena, meanwhile, would look over at Izumi oddly. "Hm?" She responded to her question. "Why, of course. I'd prefer it. You're part of the family in my book~" She replied kindly. Not knowing how much Izumi would probably blush considering the.... Circumstances.

“I’ve heard stories of other Trainers who also have Charmanders… well, Charmeleons and theirs didn’t go as… berserk as mine did. Or even Josh’s, he told me what had happened with Fawkes after he evolved the first time,” she began, with a rather concerned look on her face, now tucking into the slices of meat and cake that were piled on her plate. Seeing that the “dynamic duo” was now sticking their tongues out at her, she then cracked a smirk back in their direction. “Well, stuff yourselves, because once we get to Nue we’re going to be travelling around. Quite a lot,” she remarked, before returning to her food, and heaping some more on the plate once hers was clean.
At the mention of his mother finally giving her the permission to address her by her first name, formalities aside, she then felt a weird burning sensation coming from her ears—thankfully her long hair hid her ears quite well! Izumi was quite fortunate that her face didn’t turn a delicate shade of pink once she’d been given her leave, otherwise the following conversation would have turned extremely awkward. “Why, thank you, Serena,” she said with a very pleased smile on her face. “Happy to hear from you that I’m part of your good books,” she continued, hoping that she wasn’t laying it on way too thick. “I’ll keep an eye out on Josh here, once we get established in Nue… I swear, that motorcycle is going to be the death of me… he loves going way too fast, you see,” she said by way of explanation.
Post by Josh Dragomir on Jan 9, 2015 21:39:10 GMT -5
Serena crossed her arms and nodded. "It seems to be a common thing with Charmander, but do remember that Pokemon change when they evolve. For Charmander evolving into Charmeleon, it seems to be a common factor. It tests a Trainer's fortitude and patience. It tests who you are as a Trainer. It's up to you to earn your Charmeleon's respect, and get them to put their trust in you" She explained.
Josh smirked a bit at Izumi's comments. "So does that mean you're going to travel with me after all, Zuzu?" He teased playfully with a chuckle. "Hope you don't mind sharing a tent" He joked. Serena would nod when she thanked her. "Anytime, Izumi" She said in response, then laughed a bit at her other comments as the other two would eat. Obviously they hadn't eaten much in the last while, judging by how much they seemed to eat. "Oh, don't worry, you'll get used to it!" She said with a laugh. "Remember I built it myself. It'll get you where you need to go"

“Hopefully she doesn’t go off on a tangent when I do show her to Josh later—I’ve brought along some of the other Fire-types who were with her when she evolved, so I’m hoping that having several familiar faces around her would calm her down. I don’t know if that’s going to work, though, it’s a theory… if it works with people going crazy, why not try it out on Pokémon, see if it works?” she said in a thoughtful tone in Serena’s direction. “If you want, you can come along, see how it unfolds,” she added a few moments later, after twirling her fork around the pasta on the plate and then consuming it. After the food went down, she then turned back to Josh and then addressed his inquiry. “Yes, I am… but please make sure that your crazy motorbike doesn’t do a 180 and start flying upside-down the whole trip,” she added with a nervous laugh.
“I’d be surprised if it could literally go a long way—like, can it fly over water. I know that getting it to fly in the air is going to be a bit of stretch, weight load considering,” she chimed in a few minutes later, imagining the crazy hover/motorbike in her mind’s eye. “That would eat a lot of gas though. Or are you going to change it and make it run on solar power?” she asked out loud a few moments later, before shuddering and shaking her head. “Heh, it’s like, what if word gets out and people suddenly start asking you for orders of the flying bike…” she trailed off with a rather cheeky grin in Josh’s direction, before tucking into more of the food with much gusto. She noticed that Josh (and Lightning as well) were now on…what, their fourth, fifth plates of food?!
“How do you even put all of that away?!” she continued in wonder, staring at the two who were literally stuffing their faces full of food.

Josh would smirk a bit over at her. "If she does go off, I'm sure Fawkes can handle it" He would promise. "Fawkes is a tough one. He's not going to back down just like that, Izumi. He's a stubborn 'zard, for sure. If she goes off the handle, you can leave it to Fawkes to sort her out" He said. "I do... Wonder if anything will ever mellow him out a little more though. I mean, he's calmed down some. But he can still be rather grumpy. Think he needs something to make him happy, but what?"
Serena would laugh a bit. "Becoming a proud papa would, I'm sure" She half-joked. Josh could only laugh in response. Fawkes, a daddy? What were the odds? He'd fry a mate, he knew. The old grump.
Serena would smirk a bit, a Josh-like smirk, to Izumi's mention of the bike and people coming to buy copies. "Oh, I doubt it" She said. "They could just as easily go to Orre and get something like this. I just pride myself in making custom ones, which are cheaper to make if you know what you're doing. And I spend so much time taking care of the Pokemon, studying them, and running a breeding business, I don't think I'd have time to run another one" She explained.
Josh chuckled when Izumi asked about his eating habits. "I dunno. Probably because I won't eat like this for awhile?" He snarked over at her. "It's not like I'm some kind of chef, who eats lots of spicy food all day long... Smelly Zuzu" He teased cheekily.
