Roxanne took the papers and scanned through it to see if Johnny had made any mistakes in checking it. Upon seeing none, she nodded to herself and gave back the exam papers to the challenger.
"Alright, you check out. This will be a three-on-three battle. First to knock out two pokemon wins. Any objections?" Roxanne paused for a moment before continuing anyway. "If you have none, then please go to the other side of the field and send out your first pokemon."
No matter what the challenger said, as soon as she was finished saying it then she would walk to her side of the field. She already knew that the girl was going to accept if she actually took the time to take the exam in the same day anyway. They had met in the middle, so it took her some time to get back to her side of the field, but once she was back there then she wasted no time in turning around and waiting for the challenger to pick her pokemon first.

“So it’s a best of three then? I have no objections to that,” she said softly, before watching a change come over the young girl—all business-like and official. She then turned on her heels and made her way over to the opposite side of the arena, before deciding on whom to send out first—in fact she’d already made her choice even while she was taking the test. Save Nixe for last, save Nixe for last… or whatever happens… she thought as she quickly selected one particular PokeBall that had a ghostly pattern seemingly carved into the surface, and with a burst of red light; the shape coalesced before transforming into a Froslass-her Yukiya. She knew that Ice could do serious damage against Rock-types; due to going over type match-ups with Leon sometime previously.
Hell I even have the cheat sheet chart on me in case, but eh, let’s do this… she thought, quickly taking the first move. “Yuki, you know what to do. Be on your guard, let’s get the ball rolling, and give me a Double Team to get the ball rolling! Prepare for any of your attacks if in case they go on the offensive!” she addressed, and watched as her ‘mon seemingly made duplicate copies of itself in order to raise its evasive status. Going for a support move is always a good idea. Don’t want to risk getting hit or clobbered out of nowhere… she thought as she waited for Roxanne to make a move.

Okay, Roxanne had to wrack her brains a bit to figure what this one was. However, her encyclopedic knowledge of pokemon enabled her to get the answer soon enough. Froslass, a Ghost/Ice type that evolved from Snorunt. It was not nearly as common here as it was in Sinnoh, due to the fact that there were far less places for it to inhabit in Hoenn. After all, tropical regions tended to be hot and humid, which were ice pokemon's worst enemies when combined together.
She already had a plan in mind for this one, but it required a bit of set-up. Let's see if the girl can handle a bit of indirect combat."Alright. Cradily, it's time to teach someone a lesson." He took a pokeball out of her open book and tossed it into the air, releasing a large green flower-like creature with yellow swirls for eyes.
"Cradily!" The creature cried as she saw the Froslass' forms seem to double up, when in truth she was creating afterimages.
Roxanne just smiled thinly. "Just don't mind them and set us up with some sand."
In response, the Cradily wriggled and embedded her roots into the battlefield for a bit, causing a massive sandstorm to suddenly start brewing out of nowhere. And underneath the ground, she secretly created jagged rocks that would spring up whenever something on the challenger's side of the battlefield switched pokemon. Stealth rock if you will.

Izumi watched as the Gym Leader, Roxanne, finally unveiled the first ‘mon—and she was slightly surprised to see what it was; because she had never seen this ‘mon before. Before she could wonder just what the hell it was, it then suddenly summoned something she secretly never wanted to encounter again—a miniature Sandstorm. Now she knew that she had to move fast; because Sandstorm harmed every single thing there was—unless the ‘mon in question was either of the Ground, Steel, or Rock-types. Well well, sending me right into a nightmare. Wonder how we can make this work… she thought as she kept her eyes on Yukiya; who was now awaiting further instruction. “Be careful out there, we don’t want this to last for too long!” she shouted over the clamor of the howling sand—even if they were inside the Gym; the sand whipping through everything was just slightly overwhelming.
Deciding to take this right up close and personal, she then whistled, in order to catch Yukiya’s attention—and then she issued her first set of commands—“Well, we better try and make a dent in this thing—Yuki, fire off a Powder Snow attack for me, if you may; try and make the sandstorm a bit more bearable!” and the Froslass gave a nod; before quickly taking a deep breath and holding its hands up to the sky as if willing for something to happen—and it did happen; the wind near Izumi’s area suddenly dropped by several degrees—and then the Froslass let out a great exhalation of freezing air, aimed right at the Cradily that looked like it had anchored itself to the ground of the arena. Wonder if this thing has Ingrain, then I’d better end this real fast… she thought pensively to herself—and just as the gust of icy-cold wind was blowing, she then followed it up with, “Go in close and attempt to use an Ice Punch attack, now! Evade any incoming attacks if necessary!”
“Lass!” she heard her companion reply—and off she went, darting through the sandstorm for the plant that had anchored itself in position—its own fist had now seemingly frozen over; and then the Ice Punch attack was quickly delivered; a showcase of ice scattering from the point of impact—but did it hit the Cradily?

Roxanne tapped her fingers on her book as she watched the trainer react to her first salvo. She wouldn't admit it to anyone, but she was a bit nervous about performing the next stage of her plan. It was the first time she was going to attempt this strategy and she wanted to see how well it held up to other challengers. This was the only way for her to find out.
It was a very good thing that she didn't have her pokemon use Ingrain, then, when her opponent sent out the wind. "Cradily, side roll."
Normally the Cradily wouldn't be able to dodge something like that, but the counter-current of Sandstorm acting on the move slowed the wind down enough for the Cradily to stretch to the side, tuck in, and roll away from the blast before it hit.
The sight was enough to make Roxanne glad that she had spent weeks perfecting the move. However, she knew that her Cradily was still to slow to dodge the next move, which was why she already had her next move ready. With a speed born out of countless hours of practice, she pointed the Cradily's pokeball at said pokemon and recalled her before the punch hit, leaving the Froslass nothing to hit but air.
Then Roxanne took out the other pokeball in her book and released the pokemon within, revealing the form of a Nosepass very near the Froslass. Specifically, behind it. The wonders of placing. "Nosepass, throw a rock!"
In response, the Nosepass took a large rock from the ground and tossed it at said Froslass. It was more of a warning shot than anything, but he wouldn't complain if it hit.
{Battle Summary}Cradily dodges Powder Snow and Ice Punch, the latter by being recalled. Nosepass is then switched in and he uses Rock Throw against Froslass.

Izumi was half-hoping that the move would hit; but imagine the horror that crawled across her face as the Ice Punch hit nothing but thin air. Ah, shit. She thought with a hiss, still trying to squint through the weather that was still blowing throughout the arena. She knew that not all of these things lasted forever, and that she would have to tough it out; but how much was to much? It was at this point she noticed that there was something hovering on her end of the field; and there was now a scowl that grew across her features; how was she going to get rid of this; with the Sandstorm blowing everywhere?! “Dang it,” she hissed, thankful that the howling wind and grit was covering up most of her mutterings; and then another ‘mon made an appearance; and then made its presence known by chucking a rock her way! A rock! “Yuki!” she began, trying her best to squint through the mess that was blowing all over the place. “Signal Beam attack, now; and then use Double Team! After that, go close with an Ice Punch once more!”
“Lass!” she heard her companion call out; and she watched as said Froslass raised its hands in order to gather a globe of sinister energy; which looked murky and really creepy; before quickly releasing it in one full blast; hitting the incoming rock and shattering it; sending the debris all over the place. After that had been done, she watched as the Froslass then made more copies of itself in order to heighten its evasiveness; and then just as the copies faded… the Froslass was now in closer proximity to the big-nose ‘mon (as Izumi called Nosepass) on its left side; and then watched as a frozen fist went slamming towards the Nosepass’ direction, hoping to knock it off-balance! If you can’t get rid of it via distance… time to bear the pain and just face the heat up-close and personal… she thought with a fierce look of determination as an explosion of ice erupted from the point of impact where the Ice Punch attack had fallen…

The Frolass blasted through the rock with ease, shattering it as the Signal Beam made contact. Roxanne watched closely as the Frolass quickly created multiple copies of itself and swarmed towards her Nosepass. However, she had no worry. But she was a bit confused. Frolass were Pokemon who didn't have much attack. They more so focused on ranged attacks, like Ice Beam and whatnot. She had to wonder what this girl's Frolass could do.
Her Nosepass watched, but couldn't react fast enough to the Frolass flanking the right side. The Pokemon's fist slammed into it, and sent him across the field. However, as he was hit, he marked the Frolass with a Block. If the Trainer had even tried to recall the Frolass, they were in for a surprise. As he gained distance and got his thoughts back together, the Nosepass searched for the Frolass on the field. Even with it's evasiveness up, there was still a trick up the Nosepass' sleeve if it had one that he could use.
With the Froslass cornered and blocked in, the Nosepass found the opportunity to attack and not let up. The rock type Pokemon suddenly glowed with two rings that would raise to the top of its head. Instantly, a barrage of rocks would fall out of the rings and aim to rain down upon the Froslass. There was a very
[/s] slight pause before another one would continue the first one's path. The Nosepass was not going to give a break it seemed.

Seeing that her Ice Punch move had made contact; she knew that there was still a chance—if only the stupid weather would stop being such a pain and damaging her ‘mon every turn! She was about to give the next set of orders when something ominous surrounded her Froslass, only to fade away a few moments later—and she shook it off, wondering what it could have been. Looking upward she then saw that there was something that resembled the coming of a UFO—and then rocks suddenly began pouring out of the opening, like it was being summoned from another dimension! Oh shit, what do?! she thought, quickly squinting and seeing that the Froslass was caught by surprise; taking the first wave of rocks full to the face—before seeing that there was another wave coming! “Double Team, Yuki! Dodge that incoming rock fall!” she shouted, cupping one hand to her mouth so that her voice would carry over the whipping noise that the weather was causing. She then squinted into the grit and saw that it had made copies of itself; and those copies were hit instead—and it had gone off to one side.
“Go in with Powder Snow! Then, Ice Fang!” she continued, shouting out the barrage of attacks—she knew that there was a window of opportunity after each attack; the Froslass then saw that opening, and took a deep breath—and the air around it suddenly dropped several degrees; before it exhaled a blast of powdery snow from its lips—at least for a few moments it seemed to cool the area; but while the attack was being executed, the Froslass then took the opportunity to move around and behind the Nosepass, before baring its fangs—and they were encased in ice; and it came in for a biting attack on the unsuspecting Rock-Nose ‘mon! Up until this moment, Izumi had forgotten that her Froslass had a Hidden Ability; and that was Cursed Body; she then scoured her mind to remember what she’d read about it—and there was a glimmer of hope; for Cursed Body had a somewhat high chance of disabling a ‘mon’s last used move if it made contact with Froslass herself. “Get ready for the next set of moves, Yuki! Head high!” she shouted over the din, hoping that the gods of luck were on her side.

The Froslass was proving to be annoying for Roxanne's team. However, it appeared as though the Sandstorm was tearing through her anyway. The Ice type seemed to be bearing what she could from the onslaught of the Rock attacks. However, now that Nosepass' Rock Slide was disabled for a certain amount of turns he was stuck with only Rock Throw. The Powder Snow ripped across the field, catching the Nosepass inside. With the Sandstorm still activate, it didn't do as much as expected. However, the Froslass closed in on him from behind and her teeth.
Roxanne's Nosepass flipped around in shock and surprise, picking up a large piece of the ground and chucking it at the Froslass as she let go. Hopefully that had hit and he backed himself up, shaking his body to recover from the shock. The Nosepass stood tall, hardening himself and raising his defenses for whenever the Froslass would attempt to come in close again.
As the Sandstorm picked up harshly again, the Nosepass picked up another piece of the ground and chucked it at the Froslass, hoping that the Sandstorm would restrict vision and give an opening to take a chunk out of the Froslass' health, if not knocking her out completely.

The grit and dust swirling around the battlefield was just horrible; what with the Nosepass using the weather to its advantage; since it was one of the few types that could weather out a Sandstorm, she knew she had to act fast otherwise, she’d be stuck with Yukiya’s health dropping down as far as even possibly fainting… no, do not think of defeat, you can do this… let the luck go with you! Go! She thought, bracing herself and steeling her legs as she saw something get flipped in Yuki’s face as it was caught by surprise; she winced and knew that it was going to hurt—and then there was another attack; but it was one she knew too well. “Yuki, evade that with Double Team!” she shouted, trying to figure out a plan; since she could estimate that they were pretty much down to around equal health; however the Rock-type attack would be sailing towards the Froslass and she closed her eyes, hoping that it wouldn’t result in a knockout—she didn’t want to see this happen. Back out on the field, Yuki’s ears picked up on the command; and after having the dirt flung in its face she did not want that happening again. all too soon, the rock came flying in its direction—and she then complied by making illusory copies of herself just in time; barely missing the Rock Throw by a hair’s breadth!
The Froslass then watched as the rock rolled off, hitting one of its copies instead and sighing in relief, if but for a moment. Izumi heard the rock clatter; and squinted through the grit; at least she was still standing! But seeing as how battered she looked, she knew that she would have to get this Nosepass knocked out… and soon! “Crap,” she hissed to herself; before suddenly wondering—could an attack be chained in succession? “Yuki! If you can hear me! Go in for Ice Punch! Pour all your power into it! After that, end the whole thing with another Ice Punch, because this Sandstorm is not helping matters for you at all!” she shouted, cupping both her hands so that her voice could carry through the grit; and then praying to all hell that her Froslass would be still standing after this attempt! Seeing as the Nosepass had swung around out of surprise, the Froslass moved to another advantageous spot—which was behind it, and then aimed the first ice-encased fist with what looked like a right straight punch; before following it with an ice-encrusted left hook! Come on, come on, come on. Hold out, hold out, hold out… she thought, crossing her fingers and looking as hard as she could; she had seen the flurry of fists fly through the grit, but what would happen after that?

It seemed as though the Froslass was getting weaker by the moment. However, Roxanne was confident her Nosepass could outlast the Froslass. The Ghost type was not going to give up. It sped forward and launched an attack on the Nosepass from its right. The first collided with him, and the Nosepass took that as a warning. Before the second fist could hit the Rock type sharpened its body and hardened itself before the second fist could hit. That one Harden had saved the Pokemon's life. The second fist had almost taken the Nosepass out, but it was hanging on by a thread.
The Nosepass kicked up a chunk of the floor towards the Froslass as he backed away from the second Ice Punch. He had hoped that the close distance would be enough. If it wasn't, the Sandstorm would simply lower its health even more. All Roxanne's Nosepass had to do was hit one more Rock Throw and it was game over for the Froslass. If the one Rock Throw had not hit, the Pokemon had tossed up another one towards the Froslass for good measure.

She was definitely not expecting the Nosepass to try an up-close and personal retaliation; and the first Rock Throw smacked Yukiya right in the face, causing it to cry out of surprise; before being sent flying backwards—and landing in a heap. The second rock whooshed harmlessly overhead before clattering to a halt; and she knew that this was it; the first of her own ‘mon’s down for the count. “Oh no. Oh no!” she said, seeing the Froslass fallen, not stirring and budging at all. Oh shit. Yukiya, get up! She thought in her mind, squinting through the grit and seeing that the Froslass had indeed fallen; but not without putting up a good fight of its own! “Damn it,” she hissed, quickly plucking Yukiya’s Pokeball and then recalling the fallen Froslass. “You did well, girl. Let the others take care of this business. I swear I’ll make it up to you later,” she said, dropping the Pokeball down her jacket pocket; before looking at the state of the field. She knew that the Sandstorm wasn’t going to last forever; however there was this nasty little thing called an “entry hazard” waiting for whatever would appear from her side to smack it upon entry.
Fine, here goes nothing, she thought to herself as she then plucked a certain Pokeball and then sent out its occupant; watching as the flash of red light transformed into Nixe, her proud Empoleon! It was about to wave one of its fins around when that unexpected Stealth Rock suddenly rose up from the ground and smacked the “intruder”; causing the Empoleon to take some damage—but this was where it got interesting; since Empoleon was part-Steel, it was protected from any damage caused by the rampaging Sandstorm; however the Stealth Rock had managed to take out a bit of its health. Wincing after the rocks vanished again into the ground, she then pointed forward; before issuing the next set of orders; “Bring it down, Nixe! Growl, then aim a Bubblebeam at the Nosepass, now! If it tries to attack you, dodge to the best of your abilities!” she continued, and watched as Nixe nodded, before moving forward and then taking a deep breath; and then releasing a sound wave that pierced the air; and seconds after it was done, took another deep breath and fired forth a burst of highly-condensed bubbles; shooting across the battlefield.
It was waiting on tenterhooks just in case it decided to toss a rock right at her; but she had heard the orders and would prepare to dodge any incoming projectiles if necessary!

Roxanne only nodded as the Froslass would fall. Her Nosepass did well, and she wasn't surprised at the next Pokemon thrown in. Empoleon, a Pokemon that could quite possibly prove difficult to deal with. Her Nosepass was too weak to dodge the incoming Bubblebeam, even though the Growl had warned him from before. The Rock type simply fell over onto the ground with a thud. Roxanne returned the Pokemon, smiling gently before pulling out another Pokeball.
As much as Cradily would have the type advantage over the Empoleon, the move set it had simply didn't work with it. Her next choice, though, would prove to be a better fit. Throwing the ball onto the field, it flashed and released Roxanne's next Pokemon. A Graveler hit the field, eyes moving upward as he straightened himself up. The Graveler wasted no time in polishing himself up, raising his speed more and allowing the heavy Pokemon to move quicker than usual.
Once his eyes set sights on the Empoleon, the Ground type would slam his feet into the ground. The ground shook violently, but there was some power difference between this and a Earthquake. The Bulldoze lacked power compared to the Earthquake, but it was a ground move nevertheless and even had a sided effect on it. With a smirk, the Pokemon would then grab a chunk out of the ground and chuck it at the Empoleon. If Izumi did want to swap to a Flying type, then that Pokemon would be met with some heavy rocks!

Now things were heating up—the Gym Leader had decided to toss out something she was familiar with—but only because of all the traveling she’d done back in Kanto, she’d seen more than enough of her share of this particular type of ‘mon in order to be able to identify it on sight—a Graveler. She knew that her Empoleon was a dual-edged sword (because of its mixed typing) so she had to be careful—if another one of her “minions” fell, then it would be game over for her at least! Hoping for the best, she was about to issue the next set of orders when the ground between the two ‘mons suddenly shook; and she knew that she would be in for it; at least for the moment—because whatever the Graveler had done, it had tossed her Empoleon’s center of gravity off; and its reaction time was a little slower than usual! However, the incoming rock projectile that was headed its way was not to be underestimated, so she decided to continue on with, “Nixe! Shoot that thing out of the sky with your Bubblebeam! After that, fire two successive sweeping blasts!”
The Empoleon nodded, before taking a deep breath and firing the first wave of concentrated energy comprised of highly-condensed bubbles; meeting the incoming Smack Down attack very close to its own “zone” and watching as the high-density water blasted the rock apart into pieces; causing the debris to rain off to one side—before it took two deep breaths and then fired the next instance of Bubblebeam; letting it sweep across the arena in a fan-shaped area; and then quickly following it up with another similar blast, spread out in the same manner. She had a feeling that the Graveler was faster to react, so how was she going to catch it and beat it down before her own ‘mon got swatted down and out of the fight? This was looking to be a very interesting battle indeed…

The Empoleon would be difficult to deal with. Even though the Bubble Beam was a somewhat weak move in comparison to something like Water Pulse, which had an extra effect at times, the way the Empoleon used it would prove difficult for her Graveler. That is unless he maxed out his speed.
The Graveler didn't panic at the incoming wave of bubbles. Instead, he shined himself more and bent his knees low before jumping up quickly. For such a large Pokemon, the Graveler could easily move about now thanks to the Rock Polish. The two waves passed by as he dropped down from the air. The Pokemon slammed into the ground again that would shake the field. There was ways to deal with the Empoleon, and if Izumi wanted to win she would need to think how to by pass her Graveler's speed. Roxanne stood on the other side of the field with her arms crossed, wondering what Izumi had planned next.
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Battle Summary} Graveler used Rock Polish x2 and jumped up and over the two Bubble Beams, then used Bulldoze upon hitting the ground.
