Not wanting to give up on the “chase” as it was called, Izumi was now back once again—this time though, she’d had half a mind to bring along the goggles she’d used while she was travelling the sand swept areas of the Unova region. Hissing as why she didn’t think of it in the first place, she then snapped the goggles on her face, before making sure that she was wearing the correct pair of boots—and then stepped into the howling madness that was known as the Hoenn Desert. She’d heard rumors that there was a “Desert Palace” of some sorts in the area; but so far, it had been dismissed as a mirage. Wondering if even the wildest stories had some grain of truth in them, she then took a deep breath, and then began forging her way through the shifting sand.
Hoping that there weren’t any unwanted, hidden hazards (such as pot holes) in the area, she then traversed the usual path; but began looking around for other places to venture into. She’d managed to find a band of Cacnea the last time she was here, now she was looking for something else… a very particular something; and she was hoping that it would make its appearance this time around. Come on, don’t keep me waiting, you know I hate waiting… she thought, holding up her arm to her face in order to protect herself from inhaling as much of the grit as possible. Now, where were those little critters…

She thought she heard something skidding across the sand… and to her utter dismay, saw that the first one that had decided to make an appearance was practically similar to the one she’d caught only the previous day. With a sigh, she then sent out Nixe in a flash of red light. She had evolved since the last time she’d set foot in the desert. “Okay Nixe, time to go for a test run. Why don’t you use Bubblebeam on that thing, knock it out of the way so we can continue searching?” she said, trying not to shout so much because there was a very high chance of the grit getting clogged in her throat.
“Prin, prin! Prinplup!” she heard her newly-evolved penguin call out from somewhere in front of her—and then the torrent of water made itself briefly visible, knocking the unfurling mouse out of the way with a loud, smacking noise. “Nope, sorry,” she muttered under her breath, as she called Nixe over with a sharp whistle. Thankfully, ever since Nixe had evolved, she was now more willing to listen to her commands as compared to the previous times. “Come on, let’s keep looking,” she added, suddenly veering off to the left, heading deeper into the howling sand storm.

She and Nixe continued to shuffle through the shifting sands when she felt this weird, compelling force tug at her. Nixe had sensed it faster than she did, and turned around on the spot—before seeing that something had appeared—and it wasn’t just any something; it was a very desirable something she’d been looking for in ages! Grinning, she then began issuing the commands she needed in order to “get the show on the road” as they say. “Well then, Nixe. Looks like our luck turned for the better, we can get the hell out of here early—now, use your Bubblebeam attack! Give it all you’ve got!” she said, issuing her command and steeling her legs to stand amidst the howling sand storm.
“Prinplup, prin!” she heard Nixe call out, and very quickly, a beam consisting of concentrated, powerful bubbles shot out of her mouth—at the same time that the weird-looking, giant-headed thing stomped down on the sand and made showers of sand erupt all around itself; and Nixe! “Priiiin!” she heard her companion call out, getting hit by the quaking sensation—but not without resistance, the giant-headed creature was forced back several paces due to the strong blast of bubbles smacking it full-on in the face. “Now, Nixe, let’s try that new attack of yours—go use Signal Beam, now!” she continued, pointing as best as she could while braving the sand storm.
She heard her companion call out in reply—and at the same time; the giant-headed thing disappeared—only to appear a few seconds later, coming in dangerously close for an attack, when the sinister beam of light that was being projected from in between Nixe’s flippers smacked it head-on once again, and sent it flying across the sand! Nixe had also gotten injured, though, and cried out in pain, before Izumi called out her last command, “Now, Nixe, go show it what you’re made of, Bubblebeam attack one more time!” while reaching into another pocket of her jacket and getting an empty Pokeball ready. She knew that she couldn’t rely all the time on Riku, therefore she needed backup—and this one was the perfect piece to slot into her core team.
“Prinpluuuup!” she heard her ‘mon’s “war cry”; as it shout out another beam of bubbles condensed together and watched, as it attempted to rush forward—yet the gigantic head prevented it from getting any attacks in and it was now dizzy! She watched and waited as it teetered first, before it flopped over; and she quickly threw the Pokeball, watching as the receptacle opened up and swallowed the creature…

She was fully expecting the capture attempt to go through; but imagine her shock (and utmost horror) when the big-headed ant broke free! Never had this happened ever since she’d begun catching ‘mons to keep for her own; because most of the time she’d wear them all out and then snap at the chance. What the hell is going on?! She thought, resisting the urge to kick up more sand out of sheer annoyance. “Prin?! Prinplup?!” she heard Nixe chirp out of dismay; and then Izumi took this one chance to roll her eyes. “What the hell is it going to take for you to come join me?!” she hissed, glaring at the small, tyrannical creature that had somehow managed to evade her carefully-setup plans. Drat all of this… she thought, quickly whistling and catching Nixe’s attention.
“Okay, time to get serious. Nixe. Please aim your Drill Peck attack at its overlarge head. And… don’t stop until it screams for mercy, or whatever. Now, go,” she said, a hint of frustration seeping into her voice—why was her luck souring once again?! She could only resist the urge to roll her eyes as Nixe quickly nodded, before taking a stance and then suddenly making her own body move—turning much like a corkscrew would whenever it spins around. The little big-headed ant on the other hand, suddenly vanished again—and this time aimed an attack which cut off Nixe’s supposed attack pattern, making her stop and fall flat on the sand! “Ah crap you have seriously got to be joking…” she growled, watching as Nixe picked herself up and held her ground. “Okay, let’s try that one more time. Nixe, Drill Peck! GO!” she shouted over the roar of the wind howling throughout the area.
The Prinplup began rotating its body once more like a corkscrew drill, coming in dangerously close—before it got a handful of sand aimed at its face, courtesy of the big-headed ant-like creature. The Drill Peck attack hit the first time; but as it rounded for another attack, it cried out in pain, before flailing. “Nixe! What’s wrong?! Are you okay?!” she shouted, trudging through the sand and was about to approach before she heard it chirp once again. “Prinplup, prin! PRIN!!!” she heard it shout, as if uttering a war cry; and then stood at the ready; before Izumi gathered her wits and then tried one more time, “Okay, Nixe, Drill Peck, then if you can, follow it up with a Peck attack as well!” she shouted over the din of the sand storm. “Priiiiin!” she heard the Penguin-type ‘mon cry out, before rotating its body like a drill, and then charged once more at the gloating oversized creature—Nixe’s first attempt narrowly missed, but instead of rolling off to one side, Nixe quickly cut across and came in again for another attack—just as the weird thing lifted up its feet and then brought it down in a powerful stomping motion.
Since Nixe was spinning like a corkscrew, she missed most of the attack; and this time it made contact with the overlarge head; before she switched tactics and brought down her beak on the large head, poking it as hard as she could manage! “Keep up the stream of Peck attacks, Nixe! Wear it down!” she shouted; as it attempted to stomp down once again—Nixe had gotten caught in it; but it was slowly folding underneath the quantity of the attacks that were being thrown and pelted in its direction. Even if the Penguin ‘mon had taken what looked like a Sand Attack to the face, it kept up it sbest attempt at a relentless barrage… at some point the oversized thing was tottering once more, and once it had flopped over for the second time, Izumi picked up the fallen Pokeball and chucked it in the “ant’s” direction one more time…
And stay inside that thing! Damn it… she thought, watching as Nixe was also staggering, struggling to remain standing; as the weather was also doing quite a number on her at that point.

Right at the moment the ball shuddered and stopped shaking, she watched Nixe finally crumple to the shifting sands; and she let out a little shriek as well at the sight. Quickly scooping up Nixe’s Pokeball (one that was decorated with etched blue waves) she then recalled the Penguin ‘mon in a flash of red light and then shrunk it down, before dropping it in the inner regions of her jacket. She then trudged her way once more through the sands, before picking up the other Pokeball that now contained a very… tenacious Trapinch. “You naughty little thing,” she trailed off, before watching the Pokeball disappear—but she knew where it had vanished off to; because she would be heading back to Mauville in order to check her Personal Computer’s storage.
Hah, now that I have you, time to thin out the list of other candidates! She thought, pulling her way through the area before finally emerging… and removing the goggles from her eyes, and changing out the boots she’d worn for something more comfortable instead. “Ugh, all this sand,” she hissed, pouring out the contents of the “boots” that she’d borrowed in order to be able to go through the desert without having a lot of the loose grit get wedged and stuck in-between her clothes.
