A small smirk crossed the lips of the blonde in response to the Professor's quip. Aye, he supposed it was an understatement. The situation had likely seriously larmed them. I mean, why wouldn't it? A giant dinosaur had just appeared in the area without warning. It looked dangerous, it seemed dangerous, and he shouldn't have been surprised at the reaction from them. Alas, it was done and over with. He would smile faintly to the praise in accordance to what Josh himself meant to the behavior of the Tyrantrum. He would listen intently as he spoke of an acquaintance who had a friendly Gyarados. Josh? He had three Gyarados. They were decently behaved, but could get nasty in a hurry. But they were tame, at the very least. He'd never seen an overly friendly one, though. Well... Actually, no, that wasn't true. He recalled Yumi's Gyarados, Norris. He was a friendly sort, even if it seemed like he'd eaten paintchips as a Magicarp. He supposed Norris counted. It was a mighty battler indeed, as Josh had seen up close and personal.
"Lightning, why don't you and my other Pokemon go play with Yoshi somewhere? Feel free to bring along any of Arthur's that would want to as well. I just wanna cheer Yoshi up after all this, and keep things calm, if that's okay" He would instruct toward his partner. "Pika!" Lightning chirped with a salute as he would walk off with the Tyrantrum excitedly bounding behind him. "Yoshi! No stepping on anything important, okay? Be careful of everything around you, you're not used to your new body yet!" Josh would call out to the Tyrantrum, who would nod in response, despite his excitement. Josh would then turn to Arthur and smile politely.
"Y'know, I was thinking..." He began. "I've seen your Pokemon spar one another. But I've never gotten to see you battle yourself. How would you feel about a practice spar between Fossil Pokemon?" He would inquire. "Nothing too heated, just a little showcase. It could work as good Training for some of these little guys too" He said, smiling a bit.
Worry struck the Professor as he listened to Josh have his Pokemon go play somewhere else. He feared for a lot of things, really - his lab, his Pokemon, the surrounding environment. The trees in the area couldn't do with knocking down, he thought. He hoped they would be careful. But he didn't need to worry, he realized, as Osiris seemed to teleport into the group of Pokemon that were going to go play, a chaperone of sorts. He trusted Osiris's responsible sense to keep them out of harm's way. Or, rather, to keep things out of harm's way in general. "Now, Osiris, be calm. They mean no direct harm."The Professor thought, knowing the Psi Pokemon would be able to listen.
"As you say, Professor... I will try."
He had been accused, before, of being bad at letting things go. He took that accusation very well, to be honest. It wasn't wrong, in the least. The past and him were good friends, and he kept it dear. It was where knowledge was stored, it was where he felt most comfortable. Perhaps he spoke out of being a Fossil specialist, but still, it was something that was a truth: even know, knowing that things couldn't possibly go wrong, he had a desire to go and check, just to make sure that nothing would get out of hand. It was by his own sense of decency (he had a guest, after all) and by forced will that he kept himself talking to Josh, instead of going off.
"A... battle? Now?" The Professor questioned, somewhat surprised by the sudden concept. He hadn't really been expecting that, in all honesty. He was rusty, out of practice. He didn't want to make a fool of himself, but then again, his battle instinct told him to take the challenge. Like he said, he was out of practice: only one way to fix that. Slowly, he smiled. But as Mandragora and Nautilus attempted to step forward and take to the battlefield, Arthur motioned for them to stay still.
"Very well, Mr. Dragomir, I accept your challenge. I do admit, my battling skills are beyond rusty, but it shan't deter me. Come, behind the lab, I have a small training area. Nautilus, go get Bastion and Mercutio." The Professor calmly stated, making a motion for Josh to follow as he began walking towards the back of the manor, the Omastar rolling off into the lab.
It was a short walk, less than a minute, and they were there. It was a simple battling area, a field of grass, marked by some white paint to denote the sides. Already waiting at one side were Mercutio, the Kabuto, and Bastion, the Shieldon, who were prepared for battle. They seemed calm, patiently waiting, with Nautilus behind them, as if keeping them calm and collected. Arthur smiled, motioning for Josh to take one side of the field as he took the other, the two unevolved Fossils following.
"Any special rules for this battle, Mr. Dragomir? Or shall we begin?" He asked, as Mandragora and Nautilus took to his heel, while Mercutio and Bastion stood before him. There was a look... Arthur looked different. Like he was thinking as a different person.

Joshua would have never sent his Pokemon out to play on the property of a man he respected if he hadn't trained them, every single one of them in this case, to be on their best behavior in situations like this. Sure, Yoshi was a young one, and was a little too playful, he knew not to cause any damage anymore. He had been a real hard case, at first, he had to admit. But they'd gotten past that. Though he had to admit... With his new evolved form, he just hoped he would be able to watch himself. Luckily, Arthur's Alakazam had gone with them, and he breathed a sigh in relief, knowing that they would be fine in Arthur's hands.
But the moment that the man had said "Battle", all of his Pokemon, in unison, stopped in their tracks. They each turned, almost in complete sync, and looked to see if the professor was going to take their Trainer's challenge. Each one wondered if they'd get chosen, and even Josh could feel the slight edge of excitement and anticipation coming from all of the Pokemon as he looked over at them for a moment, before looking back to Arthur.
"Heh, looks like we have an audience" The blonde remarked as he walked with Arthur once he'd accepted the battle. To be honest, by his reaction, he wasn't sure if Arthur would actually accept the battle, and was about to say "If you don't want to, it's alright sir" but it was almost like his demeanor just... Changed. But he was happy, it'd been quite some time since he'd had a good spar. That was what he'd suggested, of course. A spar. Just a friendly bit of sparring to see how their Pokemon did, and get in a bit of training in the process.
And trust me, man did Josh have a lot of fossil Pokemon he needed to train.
He had nearly every line of fossil Pokemon besides one, after all. With only a few actually having evolved just yet. Once they arrived and he asked his question, he thought for a moment.
"How does a Double Battle sound? With Fossil Pokemon only that haven't evolved to their full potential yet" He would suggest. "Makes this battle more... Beneficial for us both"
While Josh's Pokemon filed in from one side, to spectate, to watch, so did Arthur's Pokemon, coming over from all across their laboratory home to find a place to perch and watch. Osiris seemed to disappear, but the Professor knew that he was probably watching from inside the manor, probably from his study, accompanying Quartz. Both Jupiter, the Dragonite, and Zephyr, the Aerodactyl, perched on the roof, watching from above. Norton and Magnetrix, ever curious, eyed both humans critically, as if inspecting them in some way. But perhaps the most obvious observant was Morgana, the Spiritomb, who cackled a gleeful laugh as she smirked and floated out of the lab, settling herself on behind Arthur, snickering at his battle face. She was so amused.
"I find it a fine restriction, Mr. Dragomir - choose your Pokemon. Bastion and Mercutio, the Shieldon and Kabuto you see here, are my choices." the Professor announced, almost formally. His demeanor had truly shifted, going from cool and collected to something more... involved. Smooth, with a playful smile, his voice less a greeting and something more... slick. Arthur had really forgotten how much he liked battling, and this was bringing some excitement into his normally boring day-to-day. Even as he smiled, though, waving an arm to signal his selected Pokemon to take to the field, his eyes were... different.
His face smiled, but his eyes were sharp, the deep blue looking at Josh and at his Pokemon with calculating efficacy. His battle style was very... strategic. He held himself in high regard for being able to piece apart a strategy, to think critically and analyze the situation to his benefit. He planned for this battle to be no different - while he expected Mr. Dragomir to be a fine opponent, he had no doubt that by the end of the battle, win or lose, the Professor will have already dissected his battle style. It was, in truth, his favorite thing to do in battle.
The Shieldon and Kabuto in question took their position in the battlefield with a calm confidence - they were battle partners, and they trained for this kind of challenge. Mercutio said something in Poke Speak, and while the Shieldon before him barely grunted in response, every Pokemon that heard seemed to roll its eyes, as if the worst of puns had been told. Which it had. The Kabuto snickered to itself, taking its normal position to the Shieldon's flank, while the Shieldon stared dead ahead, almost looking past its opponents. It almost looked... bored? No... Uninterested? No, that wasn't it, either.
"Now, Mr. Dragomir, you are the guest, so I will offer you the first move. Unless you wish to pass the offer, you'll begin the battle. Shall we, then?"
With the last commentary, both of Arthur's Fossil Pokemon suddenly assumed battle positions, their relaxed positions giving way to their true purpose. Arthur's eyes were keen, dashing back and forth between all scenarios laid before him. It was time to learn.
