Josh and Izumi had made it quite the habit to spar more and more as of late. Something had lit a fire under their asses to really ramp up their training and spar together regularly. But what was it? For Josh, it was a mix of several things. For one, Lugia. Knowing that at any time, Lugia could fly above their home and attack just for the sake of destruction at any time, he needed his Pokemon to be well able to defend themselves and one another. The other reason? Richissime. Josh wanted his Pokemon to be trained and ready should a situation like this arise again. They couldn't afford to have their guard down. He needed a large amount of strong, well-trained Pokemon that he had bonded with, that he could rely on like they could rely on him. And of course... The machines that were causing wild Pokemon to go crazy as of late. If they were activated near the ranch... He had to be prepared. They had to be prepared. For anything.
Not to mention... Ever since she obtained the secrets to Mega Evolution... Izumi had gotten a bit lazy. They both knew that had to change.

Izumi could only scratch her head and wonder what the hell her companion was up to, asking her to come down with him for all the sparring matches that he was interested in. sure, he could’ve asked her while she wasn’t rather preoccupied at keeping a certain bunch of Pichu away from her—but then again, the little rascals sure knew how to drive her crazy just so.
She could ony scratch her head as she got ready for the rest of the day, wondering which one of her ‘mons would be ready for another run through the mill with Josh’s own.
What is he up to anyway… was all that was in the back of her mind as she hopped into the bathroom and proceeded to take a quick shower. Some twenty minutes later, she was ready—after she’d stumbled out and stubbed her toe on the door, and very nearly banged her head against the door while getting out of the shower, that is. Massaging her throbbing toe, she then proceeded to dress up fully for the day; before getting ready to just head out and have some fun with whatever he was up to.
Now, who to train… who to frickin’ train… there’s so many of them, but… let me see… she continued to ponder to herself, taking out a small, battered notepad and riffling through the pages, consulting a rather long…checklist of who needed how much training.

A bit of thunder and lightning would boom as Josh waited for Izumi. This time, he had chosen a new location. One of the lakes on the ranch. The biggest one, actually. He had requested to the Pokemon that it be cleared out for the moment and that the Pokemon hang out on land for now, so they could battle. They understood of course, and some of them were thrilled that they in particular had been chosen for the training in this... Peculiar match style. Once Izumi would make her way to the location chosen, Josh would wave over to her.
"Hey Zuzu" Josh greeted with a chuckle. "I had an idea for training today. Let's battle on the lake with just water Pokemon" He would offer. "They can use the lily pads as platforms, since its strong enough to hold them, as well as fight underwater if need be. What do you think?" He asked.

The weather wasn’t going to be very niche to her today, it seemed. Not too long after she’d gone out (and was underneath the protection of an umbrella just to be on the safe side, since the sky was looking a bit nasty) she heard rumbling—and the crashing sound that followed not too long after sent her screaming and bolting as fast as she could towards the lake where he was waiting, still holding on tightly to the notepad that she was riffling through at the moment.
“Arceus… damn it, I hate it when that happens,” she hissed to herself, feeling her legs tremble as she finally managed to arrive at the designated ‘meeting spot’ that they’d agreed to have the next sparring match round in. To her surprise though, she found a rather…large crowd of watching ‘mons—both his and her own—assembled on the opposite side of the lake. Wondering what was up, she then proceeded to walk over to where he was before giving him a light rap on the head with the hand that was holding the notepad.
Once she was done dispensing with her way of saying ‘hello’, she then looked at the surface of the lake before feeling her lips curve into a grin, and then pointing the occupied hand his way. “You’re on,” she began, before stopping to think—just how many ‘mons would they be using, anyway? A one-on-one would be corny… a three-on-three would be messy… so… that leaves… she pondered in the back of her mind, finally realizing what he was up to, yet again.

Welp, looks like Izumi was jittery again, he thought as she came around. "Thunder and lightning again, huh?" He would mutter, before smirking when Izumi would grin and accept the challenge. She seemed... A bit more eager then usual for this idea. He had to ponder just why that was? He would shrug it off though, he was sure that this battle would certainly be... Interesting. He had to wonder just what Pokemon Izumi might be using. Josh himself still needed to figure THAT out.
"So, what Pokemon are you planning to use?" Josh would ask Izumi with a curious look. "We can start whenever you're ready. IF you need to go get the Pokemon you need, feel free, we'll meet back here in five minutes if you need it" He would add.
He just hoped that the lily pads at the top of the lake would support the Pokemon's weight.

As a matter of fact, she already had an idea of who she was going to use this time around. The thing is, she wasn’t sure as to how large his collection of Water-types were; but Izumi was fairly certain that majority of his ‘starters’ were already fully evolved, and that he wouldn’t go use the big guns on her. Well, that wouldn’t be bloody fair. A team of full-grown ‘mons against two babies? Nah, I know he’d not do that… unless… she pondered as she then decided to bring out the ‘heavy guns’, the pair that she’d been practicing with in secret.
“Yeah. You wait here, I’ll be back as quick as I can,” she muttered in his direction before whistling a different call—unlike the previous time where the Braviary had come swooping down to pick her up, this time a draconic roar echoed out—before a blur literally rocketed down from the sky and came to a stop in front of her. It was Gabriel, her Salamence. “Be back in a bit,” she chuckled before hopping astride the Dragon-type’s back and then rocketing off into the sky. Not much time had passed, and she was on her way back; but since she wasn’t as familiar with Gabriel’s landing style as opposed to Sora’s, she decided not to do the ‘flashy entrance’ she’d taken the last time in their previous sparring session.
The same blur came in a circling landing before depositing her in a rather unceremonious four-point belly-flop landing, causing her to stumble a few paces forward before giving the Dragon-type a pat on the snout. “Well, we tried. Thanks for the ride, Gabe,” she said his way, and the Salamence then gave a nod before taking back off into the sky. After Izumi had managed to dust herself off, she then looked at where Josh was most likely waiting for her. “After you,” she remarked his way with a sweeping gesture towards the lake, tossing a miniaturized Dive Ball as well as a Safari Ball up and down in her right hand.

It was true, of course. Josh had already, for the most part, fully evolved every single one of his "water starters" as Izumi liked to call them. The question was, what two water Pokemon did Josh pick? Well, he had already picked, of course. But like before, Izumi expected him to go and show off his first so she could plan accordingly. Annoying, sure, but whatever. "Alright, let's go" Josh said as he would take a few Pokeballs from his belt and toss them into the air. "Go, Henry! Lear!" Josh would call out, the names of two fictional kings. Conveniently both of Shakespearian lore. The Pokeballs would bring out a Horsea and a Slowpoke. The Horsea, Lear, would land in the water immediately, while the Slowpoke would be released onto one of the lily pads, letting out a yawn while Lear would eagerly swim around, seeming to like this idea for a battlefield.
"Alright, thats my two, Zu. You next" Josh would speak, cracking his neck. Alright, let's get this party started!

The raven-haired girl could only raise an eyebrow as she watched two flashes of red light emerge from the opposite side of the field—and almost broke out into a fit of the giggles as she saw one of the two that had landed on a lily pad on his side of the field—and looked like it wanted to be drawn with a canvas, right then and there! Izumi then bit her lip as she then popped the Dive and Safari Balls up to full size before flicking her wrist and then chuckling softly as the two full-sized containment units soared upwards and released their occupants.
The first one landed with a splashing noise in the water, while the second one had come to a standing position on a lily pad on her side of the ‘lake’; once the red light had faded, it became clear just who she was using—there was a Seadra perched in the water, ready to fight, whereas a Wartortle who was now flexing his pudgy limbs was standing atop one of the lily pads that looked like it had sunk just slightly.
“Meet Karitt and Oceanus,” she indicated, introducing them in order. The Seadra then caught sight of its younger form, before turning around and giving her a rather curious look, while the Wartortle had gotten down on all fours and was pretty much ready to get things going.
“Let’s go, then,” she remarked in his direction, allowing him the first move. She knew that Karitt was still getting used to his bigger form, but she’d already seen just how well the two went together—their latest trip in the Safari Zone was proof of that. The Wartortle then gave the Seadra a knowing look, before nodding—and then taking a defensive stance, ready to get into the thick of things.

Oh, Izumi. Intentionally picking Pokemon a gen higher for an advantage after making him show his hand first, just like she'd made him show his hand before in order to pick Pokemon that directly opposed them and had full advantages. He didn't say anything this time, he'd already mentioned her not really wanting to spar in the spirit of things, there was no reason to harp on her for it. Perhaps in time, he'd simply just get her back when the opportunity presented itself, that'd probably snap her out of it. A "This is what you're doing. Doesn't feel good, does it?" sort of thing. It wasn't even her Pokemon choice that was irritating him. It was how she was going about it. Josh knew full well what she was doing, and he only went along with it as a courtesy.
Well, regardless, contrary to Izumi's giggling, Josh's Slowpoke, Henry, really did look like he wanted to be drawn like one of Izumi's French Slowpokes the way that he lazily laid against the lily pad. The Horsea meanwhile was examining the Seadra with a look like "Really? I evolve into THIS? Damnit"
"Let's just get started then" Josh spoke calmly as the Horsea would get into a battling stance while the Slowpoke just... Kept lounging around. "Lear, use Dragon Pulse on Seadra! Then use Twister!" Josh would suddenly call. Izumi had been given her warning, and the Horsea would first launch a pulse of draconic energy toward Seadra, following up by kicking up a twister that also threatened to blow Seadra away.
"Henry, use Psychic, then Zen Headbutt!" Josh would call as the Slowpoke would let out a yawn, emitting a psychic attack heading straight for Wartortle. And whether it hit or not, the Slowpoke would suddenly launch itself, at high speeds, with intent to hit with a hard headbutt on Wartortle. How Henry had gone from lazy ass to suddenly launching itself, who knows?
