They had a good break from the action, they had decided to retire for the night after the last session. It was good timing anyway, their last sparring session had gotten rather heated, so how could you be surprised after all that? Josh had been taking time to really amp up the training of his Pokemon lately, and it was showing in their improved battle prowess, their evolutions, their new move sets. And was proud of each and every single one of them. Vigilance and Terry had their turn before, now it was time for another pair of Pokemon to go at it. The question was... Which two?
He'd spent the morning trying to figure out which would be most suitable. He had two different "pairings" that worked well together, well, for the most part anyway. He had a habit of pairing certain Pokemon together, or the Pokemon paired themselves up with a friend, and Josh let them battle together more often then not. Now, the question was... He wondered as he waited for Izumi to meet him at the usual spot... To use the ones he was thinking of... Or to use a different set of Pokemon entirely...
Post by Izumi Yamamura on Mar 26, 2015 7:23:57 GMT -5
The two were now in the middle of a crazy training spree; since the first two sessions had gone over quite well, they decided to keep on continuing with the set-up of how they could get their Pokémon trained up without having to resorting to battling hordes of wild specimens all the time in the wild. Ironically, though, she was late. Why was Izumi late? Put it down to a freak accident taking place in the Izakaya over in Shui that she had to supervise in order to get cleaned up; therefore making her appearance a bit…later than planned. Her arrival was denoted by a shape suddenly appearing in the sky—and coming in for a circular landing!
The raven-haired girl had decided to take her Salamence, Gabriel out for a spin—and the Dragon-type was already roaring out in delight, while his rider was screeching all manner of colorful profanities in his direction. “Gabriel, I swear if you go any faster I’m going to make you eat my—“ she trailed off before giving a shriek as the Salamence banked down for a sharp landing; sending her toppling off his back rather unceremoniously before huffing with glee at her fallen form. I am so going to get back at you for that! she thought with a huff as she pulled herself up and off the grass, before dusting herself off as best as she could manage.
“Sorry. The Izakaya had a meltdown in the kitchens and store room. Had to be there to supervise the clean-up,” she muttered with a sheepish grin. “Now, shall we get on with the program?” she remarked, looking around and wondering just who was he going to use.

Josh would look up, noticing that the late Izumi was showing up on board her Salamence. "Huh, funny... I almost forgot she had a Salamence" He would mutter to himself. His Bagon, Gareth, had just evolved recently. His Shelgon was one step away from becoming a Salamence, and one more step toward his dreams of flying. Of course, Josh hadn't told his Shelgon that Salamence could fly. He wanted him to be surprised when his dreams came true, he wanted to see the look of joy upon his face when he was surprised that he suddenly had wings. It might be a bit cruel to not talk to a Pokemon about their next evolutionary stage... But Josh knew that Gareth was going to love it.
As Izumi came over and explained her absence a bit, Josh couldn't resist a little bit of joking. "A meltdown at the restaurant, huh? I'm guessing one of the staff found your hidden uniform pictures?" He would jest in her direction, sticking his tongue out at her. He was totally just waiting for her to throw a fit over it, teasing her had become a favorite pastime of his it seemed.
Post by Izumi Yamamura on Mar 26, 2015 7:56:32 GMT -5
Once she’d waved at Gabriel, she then watched as the Salamence continued to huff and snigger with much glee in his own PokeSpeak, before quickly taking off and flying back into the skies above the home stead, she could only shoot his receding form a little glare. “I already told him to be careful with the landing, but I think he did that just to spite me,” she began with a little shake of her head. “So, who’re you using this time around?” she continued, hoping that whatever he had in mind didn’t go up too much against what she was planning!
Initially she wanted to take out two of her Water-types for a spin, but had decided against it. In the end, she knew that their training plan was going to go full-speed ahead, regardless of whatever choices they’d make. Now that she was here, she then reached into the pocket of her uniform, before bringing out two distinctly-decorated container units. “Time to get things started…” she began, popping them to full size and chucking them up high and watching as two streams of red light poured out of them. The first one materialized into a frog-like form; before intently looking around; while the second one turned into the cutest little fox one could ever hope to lay their eyes on.
“Meet Tyche and Sakura,” she continued, gesturing at the Fennekin and the Froakie that were now on her side of the field. She didn’t miss his little remark about her pictures; and soon after the two had appeared on her side of the field and stood waiting, she then quickly flipped the bird his way. It was the first time she’d done it, but soon as she did it, she then stuck her tongue out at him afterwards. “Say that again and it’s not just one bird that’ll talk to ya,” she remarked with the same hissing noise she made the very first time the secret had been laid bare.

He smirked faintly as she would flip him the bird. "What, double fingers? You're running out of punishments, Zu. But nothings more punishing then seeing you in that little uniform, about to drop the plates" He would tease with a laugh, looking over at the Fennekin and Froakie. "Interesting, two starters, huh?" He would respond, chuckling. Since Josh used two starters last time... Perhaps it was time for something different on his end, hm? Let's see, let's see.... Ah, he had it! How about an oddball team? "Alright, let's get this show on the road!" Josh would call as he would grab two Pokeballs on his belt, tossing them both into the air. "Go, Valor! Thresher!" The blonde would call as the two capsules would open, and he would catch the Poke Balls on the way down...
"Snooooooo!"
"GIBLE!"
A Snorunt and a Gible would pop out of their Pokeballs, and land on the ground in front of him, the Snorunt hopping from one foot to another in anticipation. After the ill fated Temple attempt on Valor's end, he was ready for redemption, while Thresher was fresh off a battle with Yumi as well.
"Ready?" Josh would inquire toward Izumi with a smirk.

Apparently, he was unperturbed at the gesture that she’d flung her way; and she then watched with a rather pointed look as he sent out his choices—and noticed that they were ‘mons that she already had; with one of them being the baby form of her Garchomp; while the other one was just like her Hyouga. “Oh, doing the same thing that I’m also doing, covering type weaknesses,” she muttered, more to herself than to him as she then proceeded to cross her arms before scanning the area. Izumi knew that things would get ugly fast if she didn’t end it quickly! She was starting to realize just what her weaknesses were in battle: if it dragged on for too long, then she would end up being at a disadvantage.
Alright, time to get cracking… she mused in the back of her mind, before quickly taking the lead! Well, they did say that the best defense is a good offense… she continued as she then pointed forward before beginning, “Tyche! Get going with a Magic Coat and a Psychic at that Gible! Sakura, Toxic Spikes and then Bounce!” and watching as the two on her side of the field sprang into action; the Fennekin quickly tapping its paws on the ground before barking; and at the same time conjuring up a barrier that snapped into place before vanishing; and right after that had unloaded a near-invisible hunk of energy that was now headed towards the Dragon-type!
At the same time the Fennekin had sprang into action, the Froakie quickly unloaded a hail of purple, noxious-looking barbs that were then scattered all around the opposite end of the field; before it had propelled itself up high with a Bounce attack!
Fennekin and Froakie out on the field!
Fenne starts of with Magic Coat; before unloading Psychic aimed at the Gible. Froakie then scatters Toxic Spikes all over the opposite end of the field; before Bouncing up in the air! (will come down the next turn)

"... Honestly? I just picked a random team for the sake of doing something new. I didn't even take types into consideration" The blonde would admit with a chuckle, continuing to ignore the middle finger thrown. It seemed that the blonde had picked up on Izumi's mutterings, but that didn't matter right now. For now, they needed to get this spar going.
[Switching with permission from Izumi]
"Hold on, hold on! Before we start!" The blonde would suddenly call as he realized something. "I don't think Thresher actually needs the training right now as much as another one of my Pokemon does. One moment, but I promise I'll use another Dragon type to keep it fair" He said as he would motion for Thresher to go ahead and watch from the sidelines. "Now... Go, Gareth!" Josh would call as he would toss a Pokeball, bringing out his Shelgon, Gareth. "Shelgon!" Gareth would let out, seeming ready for battle.
Josh knew Izumi owned a Salamence, so she would be able to appreciate his urgency for evolving this little bugger. "Alright Gareth, ready for battle?" Josh would ask the Shelgon who would nod. "Shelgon!" He responded eagerly. Josh's Snorunt, who danced around as he hopped from one leg to the other, didn't seem to mind the change. What was the difference between one Dragon Type and another, right? "Alright Zu, I'll let you have the first move" Josh said, and took a breath as he watched Izumi order her first round of attacks...
"Safeguard, Valor!" Josh would quickly call as the Snorunt would emit an aura that would wrap around both him and the Shelgon, as soon as Josh saw Izumi call for the Magic Coat. "Now, go for an Icy Wind on her Froakie! Gareth, use Take Down on Fennekin, combine it with your Dragon Claw for extra damage!" He would call, issuing orders with increased speed the more he battled, it seemed. The Psychic would hit and deal damage to the Shelgon, but that didn't stop it from unleashing a Take Down on Fennekin, as its claws would glow green. As it charged, it would try and ram into Fennekin, and whether it hit or missed, would go for Dragon Claw as well. Meanwhile, Valor would unleash an Icy Wind from it's mouth, going for the Fennekin as the Froakie was busy in the air.
Josh had noticed the Toxic Spikes, but had them factored into his strategy...
Post by Izumi Yamamura on Apr 26, 2015 0:46:43 GMT -5
Izumi was actually rearing and waiting to go when she noticed that her sparring partner had seemingly held up a hand (or maybe it was just her imagining things) before hearing him go on about suddenly retreating one of his own minions; before watching the revelation of the new partner take the stage. She then felt one of her eyebrows arch up to a point so high, it almost vanished into her hairline.
Wondering what he was up to with the Shelgon out on the field—and then hissed, the moment the Safeguard had been called out! Well, that screws up the Toxic Spikes I’ve laid out on the terrain… she mused to herself before seeing that there was something still in the air—she knew that Sakura was still coming down; but would she be able to glance at least a blow on one of the two; because boy were they taking advantage of the fact that Tyche was now alone on the field!
The blast of cold breath that was going upwards towards the descending Froakie was something she’d noticed only at the very last few seconds, and she could only hiss as the Water-type suddenly came up against a draft of cold air! “Sakura! Land on that Snorunt with your Bounce! Then throw up a Smokescreen, get back here and help Tyche out! Tyche, incoming! Flamethrower when it gets in close to propel yourself away from it! I know it’s not going to work, it may not be fair, but unload a Psychic on that Dragon! It’s going to take us out quick if we’re not careful!” she shouted from her side of the field; watching as the two sprang into action. True enough, the incoming Shelgon had literally slammed its body into the Fennekin; causing the little fox to wince and cry out—but it was just apparently a ruse; since the moment it had come close, the little fox-like Fire-type had breathed out a strong stream of flames at point-blank range!
At the same time, the diminutive size of the Fennekin had let it slip backwards due to the force of the unleashed Flamethrower; before this look of intense concentration passed her face and the Fennekin then unloaded another chunk of near-invisible energy that caused the hairs on the back of her neck to stand up on end. At the same time, the frog ‘mon had crashed into the Snorunt with the flying-type attack; before using the kinetic energy from the Bounce attack to skid back on the ground and kick up a blinding screen of dirt right in the Snorunt’s face; hopefully reducing the accuracy of the next few attacks it would be tossing their way! noticeably, the Water-type was moving a bit slower due to having passed through the blast of cold wind on its way down—and the raven-haired girl could only hiss as she remembered what hell an Icy Wind could unload at such short range.
Fennekin and Froakie out on the field!
Fenne gets hit with Take Down, but propels self out of the way with a defensive Flamethrower in order to put some distance between herself and the Shelgon! Fenne uses Psychic on Shelgon!
Froakie comes crashing down on the Snorunt; but passes through the Icy wind and gets its Speed reduced. Upon pushing off from the Bounce, kicks up a Smokescreen in the Snorunt's face!

Josh smirked a bit, seeing as Safeguard had kept her Toxic Spikes strategy from working. "Looks like that evens this up" He said once the battle had gotten underway. There wouldn't be any shenanigans here, Josh had learned his lesson about Toxic Spikes from Richissime. Something Izumi hadn't done, obviously. The Snorunt would dance from one foot to the other, hopping left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot. It would then turn around and shake its "tail" at the other two, taunting them. Josh laughed a bit, it seemed that Valor was confident. If the Shelgon could facepalm right now, he would totally facepalm. But his limbs weren't in facepalming position anymore ever since he evolved.
With the Smokescreen in effect, Josh could think of only one way to counter it. "Icy Wind, again!" Josh would call to Valor, who would release an Icy Wind attack that would cause the Smokescreen to be blown away. As it would clear, the Shelgon, who had taken the Psychic attack, would leap through the clearing smoke and fire a Flamethrowerat Fennekin, while Josh would quickly order to the Snorunt to use Ice Shard to counter the dirt that was being kicked off from Bounce. Josh chuckled a bit, cracking his neck. "Now, use Spite!" Josh would call to the Snorunt. "Snoooo!" He let out as he would emit some kind of dark aura... It was time to even the odds here!
Post by Izumi Yamamura on May 10, 2015 9:24:35 GMT -5
The raven-haired girl could only wonder what the little triangular-shaped thing was up to… before it turned around and literally mooned her ‘mons. Even if the style was execution was different, she recognized the telltale signs—she’d been Taunted, and both her starters had fallen for it hook, line and sinker! Even if the Shelgon had gotten hit by the Psychic, she then noticed that majority of the moves were being cranked out by the Snorunt—and in a way, he’d inadvertently advertised which ‘mon was the ‘bigger threat’ and which one was just the diversion!
Kind of like the way that Abomasnow and Scpetile did when I managed to barely win over Yumi that day… she mused to herself with a rather concerned frown crossing her features. Not only had the Smokescreen from earlier had been canceled out, but now that there was a Spite that had been flung in their direction, she then began to sift through the myriad of lectures that she’d had whenever she’d end up consulting her shisho about certain moves—and it was at that point she got an idea. “Sakura, get out of the way and Bounce up again; Tyche! Magic Coat that incoming Spite, now!” she began, pointing forward and watching as the little Fire-type fox quickly conjured up a ‘barrier’ that snapped into place around the Fire-type.
At the same time that the Magic Coat had fallen into place; the Froakie then propelled herself upwards with another application of Bounce, soaring up again into the sky!
Fennekin and Froakie out on the field!
Froakie used Bounce again (coming down on next turn); Fennekin used Magic Coat in an attempt to reflect Spite back on the Snorunt!

Josh had obviously taken Izumi by surprise here, but he knew that she'd regroup quickly. She would do so via Magic Coat first, in an attempt to reflect Spite back at them. The Snorunt would by itself put up a LIGHT SCREEN in an attempt to block it, though Josh was unsure on how Spite worked and if the screen would block it. Was Spite a physical entity that could be blocked? Or was it invisible and could pass through objects? He had no clue, so he'd trust the Snorunt's judgement. But Izumi had made a big mistake in using Bounce. Sure, it had been able to get out of the way of Spite... But it had also left her Fennekin wide open for attacks.
"Gareth, use Dragon Claw, twice! Then jump out of the way and prepare for Icy Wind!" Josh would call as Gareth would nod and charge toward Fennekin, both of his claws glowing green as he would slash at Fennekin with a DRAGON CLAW. He didn't hesitate, hit or miss to send another DRAGON CLAW Fennekin's way, before leaping upwards at Josh's signal when Valor would fire an ICY WIND at the Fennekin.

Once the raven-haired Trainer had heard his attempt to toss up a Light Screen in order to attempt to block the Spite that had been flung back in his face due to her Tyche using its Magic Coat earlier, she then felt her lips curve up into one of the most evil smiles that he would ever see on her face. Hah, there’s something I know about Magic Coat that you don’t… and since that’s Spite that went screeching back in your face… prepare to get that move locked down, she thought with the same devious grin on her face as she then crossed her arms and then stared the two ‘mons that were practically raining down hell on her lone Fennekin.
“Tyche! Get out of the way and block that with two Psychic blasts! Sakura! Wait for my signal!” she shouted, looking up at the still-airborne Froakie that was beginning its free-fall descent. Back on the ground, the Fennekin gave a series of yipping barks, before dodging out of the way of the first set of green-glowing draconic claws (yet taking the second one and eliciting a painful yelp as those claws really did hurt) before unloading two consecutive blasts of near-invisible energy, exploding all around where the Shelgon stood while holding her ground (and consequently getting hit by that blast of frigid air). Knowing that she was running out of time, she then whistled up at her airborne amphibian, before pointing at the Shelgon, “Use Ice Beam when you land, right on that Dragon!”
As the Froakie finally hit the ground (since Bounce had been used evasively as opposed to hitting something) it then gathered a concentration of arctic energy before letting it loose, heading right at the Shelgon—was he going to be playing ‘divide and conquer’, or was he just crashing through at this point?

Josh wasn't really listening to much of Izumi's babble. It was a sparring match, it had his focus. Izumi was firing off on all cylinders toward Gareth. "Dodge, best you can Gareth!" Josh would call as Gareth would manage to get past both Psychic attacks. But those dodges left him open for the Ice Beam...
"Shit! Look out!" Josh would call. But just before Gareth was hit, the Snorunt would suddenly jump in front, taking the Ice Beam head on and being frozen solid. "Valor!" Josh called out in shock and horror. Shit, whenever one of his Pokemon were frozen, it was never good! Even an ice type like Valor was unable to handle the Ice Beam. Suddenly though, the block of ice, and the Snorunt within it, started glowing. Before being engulfed in a bright light!
"Wh-" Josh yelped in surprise. After a few moments, the ice would suddenly shatter, and out came a Glalie! "Whoa! Valor! You evolved into a Glalie!" Josh exclaimed in surprise. "Glalie!" Valor would exclaim in that deep Glalie voice, before unleashing Icy Wind on the Froakie and Fennekin once again! The Shelgon would follow up with a Flamethrower on Froakie.
[Shelgon dodges the psychics, Snorunt takes the Ice Beam. Snorunt evolves into Glalie, uses Icy Wind. Shelgon uses Flamethrower on Froakie]

The raven-haired Trainer could only stare at what was going on—sure, she’d opened fire right on the Shelgon, but then the little triangular Snorunt then jumped in and took the Ice Beam that was fully intended for the Dragon-type! She cracked a grin at the little spectacle, but it was short-lived—as several seconds later, the ice shattered, revealing a much bigger… and much more menacing creature! My, my… now this is going to be quite unfair, two babies going up against two evolved forms… she thought as a crinkle of concern furrowed her brow—but she had no more time to think about that, the two were closing in on her babies, and fast!
“Tyche! Flamethrower that incoming blast of cold air! Sakura, counter that incoming Flamethrower with your Hydro Pump, and get back into the air with your Bounce, wait for my signal when you come down!” she blurted out, watching as the ‘bigger threats’ were coming in fast and close on her two babies.
“FEEEEEEEN!” the little Fire-type fox cried out, yipping as loudly as she could before unloading a steady stream of flames at the incoming Icy Wind; while watching as the Froakie then unloaded a powerful blast of water, meeting the flames in mid-air and cancelling them out—before taking to the air once more with her Bounce. “Alright, Tyche, turn up the heat now with your Sunny Day!” she added, remembering that she still had one more move allowed to her. this the little fox got to, howling at the sky—before the overcast weather temporarily shifted to one of heat and light.
Now I know I can’t use Water-type moves, but this is going to be the last salvo! So I dare you! Come and get it! she thought in the back of her mind as she watched her Froakie up in the sky, waiting for further orders.
Fennekin and Froakie out on the field!
Fennekin uses Flamethrower to counteract the ICy Wind, while Froakie blocks Flamethrower with Hydro Pump, before using Bounce! Fennekin then uses Sunny Day!

"I think that's enough, Zu"
Josh would hold up a hand. He knew how this was going to go. Both of his Pokemon now had an evolution advantage over both of hers. It just wasn't really that fair, to be quite honest. It was best that they end it now. "I think it's best we finish up for today, Zu" Josh would add, motioning for his Pokemon to stop attacking. "You both did great. Both of you can head back to the ranch and relax. Valor! You evolving, great job! Great timing!" Josh would encourage the Glalie. "Glalie!" Valor let out joyfully before he and the Shelgon, Gareth, would both head back to the ranch on their own. They seemed to know where the place was, at least. Not like it was very far, anyway.
"Man, that Sunny Day is nice. Best weather we've had in weeks" Josh would joke with a chuckle. "Still expecting a lightning storm any minute now"
