They had agreed to it quite some time ago, just before Christmas, to do a few sparring sessions. But it had taken until they had gotten mostly settled in Nue in their new ranch, "A Piece Of Heaven" (Josh still referred to it as Dragomir Ranch at times, as a sort of subtle subtitle when naming where his Pokeballs are going post-catching due to the merger, but the official name was still the one that Izumi had decided to pick) in order for it to come to fruition. So once everything was all set, they had arranged a date and time to get some sparring done. They had tons of Pokemon, after all, and needed quite a bit of training to get them all in tip top shape.
Josh had already chosen what Pokemon to use first, and the blonde waited for the black-haired maiden in the middle of a grassy field on the Ranch. Waiting... Well, sort-of patiently, I guess.

If one could call waking up and getting a shower crammed into fifteen minutes late, then that’s what Izumi felt like right now: she was on a literal rush of things. She knew that they’d agreed to hold off on most of the other things until they’d arrived in Nue; and now that they were here there was no more turning back anymore. After making a quick check in the storage system and seeing that everyone was out on the field and grazing, she then hoped that her rambunctious little Charmeleon, Ravana was going to be up to the little task.
She knew that the Fire-type was an absolute hot-head; and it had taken more than half of her Fire-types throwing threatening glares her way to make her sober up. after making sure that she had the correct containment unit with her (as she’d decided that Ravana going crazy on the others wasn’t too nice to see) she then made a mad dash down and out of the house on their little piece of grounds; and began looking around.
“Geez, the hell is he,” she began, looking around and seeing that he wasn’t in the Dragon’s Maw; nor was he in the rocky, cave-like area. hoping that he hadn’t gone out too far, she then cupped a hand to her mouth and shouted, “Sora! Hey, big guy, where are you?! Get over here!” and then began to wait. After around five minutes of waiting—maybe more—a huge shape then broke through the sky and then landed, a three-point on claws and tail feathers, and then spread out his wings and squawked loudly.
“Take me to where Josh is,” she remarked, and the Braviary then shuffled around, letting her hop astride; before taking off into the vast sky. He didn’t have to fly too far; because there he was once again; standing in the middle of one of the fields that their ‘mons were grazing on—though at the moment it looked completely deserted. “Take me down, big fellow,” she said, patting the avian’s back, and the Braviary then changed patterns, leaning down towards the ground in front of the man himself.
She then proceeded to hop off and brush a few feathers off; and with another pat, the Brav took off once again into the sky; and she then faced him holding a particular containment unit. “So, it begins…” she continued, taking a few steps backwards and then quickly popping the white containment unit to full size and then tossing it sky-high. A flash of red light then shot out, which then revealed her Charmeleon, Ravana—who then gave a little roar at finally being free.
“Shall we?” she asked simply, looking his way; knowing that this was going to be one hell of a painful ride.

It was quite awhile, and Josh had taken to relaxing on the grass while he waited for Izumi. Damn you woman, for taking so damn long. "Where in the world is she?" He muttered, just sort of casually staring up at the clouds and trying to see if he could make out any shapes. "Hey, that one looks kind of like a Wailord" He muttered. Arthur would love that Wailord cloud, he was sure. "That one looks kind of like a Gothita...." He murmured. He figured Angel might like that one. "A Cyndaquil?" He would add, seeing another cloud. Too bad Izumi wasn't here. He was sure the black haired girl would love to see a mo'fuggin Cyndaquil cloud. "And that one looks kind of like a.... Braviary?" He trailed off, before realizing that wasn't a cloud at all. That was an actual Braviary!
It would swoop down, taking Izumi down with it. Josh smirked faintly as he got up when she landed. "About time" He said, rolling his eyes playfully before he would bring out his Pokemon in return. "GRRROOOOOOOOAARRR!" Fawkes let out as the large 8 foot Charizard was brought out of it's containment unit. He knew Fawkes had been waiting for this...
Josh would lock eyes with Fawkes as he looked back at him, and the two would nod in unison. They were in perfect sync... Perfect.
[Two moves a turn, no calc, dodges count as moves]
"Fawkes, use Swords Dance, then attack with Dragon Claw!" Josh would call as spiritual swords would spin around Fawkes, before his claws would turn a shade of green. And with that, he took to the air, heading straight for Ravana with claws out, before slashing at it...

“Geez, I’m sorry, okay?” she began, folding her arms in his direction as he made a pointed eye roll her way; before turning her attention back to the eight-foot-tall Charizard that had made his appearance; why did she really not notice Fawkes’ sheer size until now she was never sure. “Heh, now I can really see where he gets his size from…” she remarked, looking around quietly before hearing an ear-splitting roar echo throughout the clearing. It was just them now, a Charmeleon versus a Charizard… weren’t the odds skewed in his favor, in any case? She knew that she was going to be in for it when he quickly got started and began calling out the first move!
“Oh, you did not just…!” she hissed, seeing that Fawkes was now charging in without warning, and she cupped her hand to her mouth and shouted, “You crazy ass, you didn’t even yell ‘Go’ or something along those lines!” before quickly whistling and catching her Charmeleon’s attention. “Ravvie! GET OUT OF THE WAY!” she shrieked; and as the Charizard came screaming in like a blazing fighter jet, the shout of her Trainer reached the Charmeleon’s ears, and as quick as she could manage at least, rolled down and out of the way, skidding along the grass before coming to a stop
“Phew, that was close,” she muttered, holding a hand to her chest. “Alright, Ravvie! Let’s try out that Dragon Dancing thing!” she continued, and over at where the Fire-type stood, the Charmeleon quickly performed the steps to what looked like some kind of a dance that only fellow ‘mons could understand, and soon after that felt a surge of energy ripple through her body.

Josh had given Izumi plenty of time to prepare with the Swords Dance, actually. Of course, the attack would be dodged, but that didn't mean that Fawkes was done. "Yeah! I called Swords Dance! Doesn't that count?" He asked with a cheeky grin. And with that, Ravana would use Dragon Dance, an egg move. "Cheeky, cheeky... Use of genetics" He muttered, but that wouldn't stop them. "Fawkes, use Dragon Claw, and try to get in close! Once you do, use Flare Blitz!" Josh would call.
"GRRRRRROOOOOOOAAARRR!" Fawkes would let out in a loud roar as the Charizard would go for the melee attack again, his claws glowing a shade of green before they would extend in reach and power before he would slash at the Charmeleon. Of course, whether it hit or not, flames would suddenly engulf the Charizard, before Fawkes would launch himself at the Charmeleon, in a reckless attack that would likely bring harm to the both of them...
Post by Izumi Yamamura on Jan 31, 2015 0:36:41 GMT -5
“You didn’t say anything about ‘no egg moves’, so no take backs!” she retorted back, once her Charmeleon had finished the mystic dance and felt the energy rippling through her body. Seeing that he was now on the move; and was definitely intending to knock the poor Charmeleon senseless, she knew she had to think, and fast! “Ravvie! It’s going to hurt, I know, but please get out of the way again! Then do you-know-what!” she continued, hoping that her Charmeleon understood what ‘you-know-what’ meant. Hoping that it wasn’t too late, she then clenched her fists again and looked out at the battlefield; seeing that the bigger ‘Zard was coming in close, and was literally this time screeching like a fighter jet, claws glowing to all hell either way.
The Charmeleon, simply put, was fucking terrified. She knew that she was able to get out of the way once; but twice?! After hearing her mistress’ instructions, she could only growl, and rolled off to another side again; the wind whistling through the air as the first attack whizzed by. “It’s going to hurt, but tank the next one!” she shouted encouragingly, hoping that things didn’t get way too hairy. This isn’t sparring, this is stomping! J, slow down a second and work with me here! She thought in the back of her mind, slightly panicking at the power of the Charizard that was now trying to catch the agile little Charmeleon. The Flare Blitz then slammed full-power into the smaller bipedal lizard, and she heard a loud groaning of pain, before another roar coming from aforementioned Charmeleon cut through the scene!
“Tank it, tank it, THEN GO! DO IT!” she shouted once more; seeing the Charmeleon skidding over backwards; knocked over to the point of almost passing out. Ravana wasn’t one to give up too easily, though; she was tenacious—something that she’d admired about the Charmeleon, rebellious state aside. Give the slight boost in speed, the little bipedal then closed the distance, before raising an electrified fist, an attempt to sock the daylights out of the crazy big-ass lizard who was trying to dive bomb her into the dirt!

Flare Blitz had hit it's mark, Dragon Claw was just the decoy as Josh had planned from the start. "I never said anything about no Egg moves, no, but I see no reason to complain about me taking the advantage if you're going to use advantages as well!" He teased with a chuckle. But he would quickly go back into battle mode once Izumi would call Thunder Punch... He didn't recall Charmeleons being able to learn Thunder Punch. Anymore egg move, perhaps? He would have to do his research into the matter, for sure. But for now, Fawkes faced a difficult threat, and Josh knew that he had to ensure that the attack didn't hit...
"Block it with Dragon Claw, Fawkes!" Josh would call. Fawkes would let out a loud roar before his claws would turn a shade of green and extend once again, before slashing at the Charmeleon and going head on with it's Thunder Punch, blocking it full on, with the electricity of Thunder Punch not hitting Fawkes due to the claws not actually being a part of Fawkes's body, but a spiritual extension summoned by the move initiated.
"Now, take the initiative and use Fire Spin!" Josh would call as the Charizard would fly back before shooting a stream of flames that would surround the Charmeleon, trapping it in a circle of scorching heat... Josh was trying to put pressure on Ravana and force it to depend on Izumi for guidance.
Post by Izumi Yamamura on Feb 1, 2015 9:12:56 GMT -5
Izumi was surprised; he’d countered with Dragon Claw right away; as she saw the purplish glow extend from the Charizard as it met the electrified fist of her Charmeleon. Of course, her bipedal lizard was stunned at the sudden move it had thrown; and was thrown back due to the shock of getting blocked outright! “Ravana! Don’t get fazed! Hang in there!” she shouted as the Charizard then skidded off backwards before shooting out a pillar of rotating flames that she was familiar with—she’d seen it several times in the wild, but not a single one of her own ‘mons knew what it was (at least, she didn’t bother to check Kovu yet) at the very least.
The Charmeleon had moments to look before the vortex of flames surrounded it, cutting the Charizard off from sight! “Tch,” she hissed, recognizing the Fire Spin as it circled around the Charmeleon. She heard Ravana cry out of surprise as the heat of the flames circled around her; and even if the Fire-type move didn’t hurt it too much, staying trapped for too long would be absolutely costly. “Listen to the sound of my voice, girl!” she began, hoping that she could be heard over the roaring flames. “Just keep Dancing! Dragon Dance twice, and wait for the flames to peter out!” she continued; not willing to risk Ravana leaping out of the vortex of fire; because it was trapped and stuck for the time being.
Inside the vortex, the Charmeleon attempted to dance as best as he could; even if she was trapped; the flames were licking her arms and she let out a squeal of pain. Fire didn’t faze her; but the terror of getting trapped in here most definitely did. Still, she tried her best to keep her cool and performed the mystic dance, further boosting the strength welling up inside her.

Josh smirked a bit as his plan worked. The Charmeleon would listen perfectly, and would use Dragon Dance in order to try to get power to break out of the Fire Spin. It would keep dancing then, as Izumi told it to... Trying to build power. Trying to build speed. But Fawkes was watching, the Charizard was smart... He wasn't going to let a technique like that slide by him. He watched every movement, every little thing, and watched it close. He had seen Josh's observations of moves in the past, and like a Trainer learned from his Pokemon, the Pokemon could learn much from their Trainer. And this was what Fawkes had done now. All of a sudden, the Charizard was moving as well, matching it's movements with that of it's own. And as Fawkes went, his speed began to increase, his power began to increase.
Fawkes had learned Dragon Dance.
A grin crossed Josh's face at this development, and he would quickly instruct Fawkes to use it again.

Izumi could only guess what the hell Josh was up to; the Fire Spin vortex was most certainly not petering out, at any rate. She could barely see the outline of the huge eight-foot-tall Charizard as it then did something… wait a second, was she seeing things?!How in the hell does that thing know… she trailed off in the back of her mind as she blinked; before seeing it happen once more! It then hit her—how in the hell did Josh’s Charizard suddenly pick up on Dragon Dance and execute it perfectly?! She then blinked as hard as she could before whistling; a way to catch her Ravana’s attention over the sound of the roaring flames that were still trapping it. She knew it was best to wait for the flames to peter out before doing anything way too drastic; so she whistled another tune for a few more seconds; before hearing a roar of reply within the pillar of flames.
“Ravvie! Are you okay?!” she began, shouting over the roaring sound of flames still spinning in a violent vortex around the Charmeleon. She fell silent for a few moments; before hearing a roar from within; before she breathed out a sigh of relief. “Okay, I know you must be really tired about this, but we can’t really risk diving out of the flames yet… he’s stalling, and for what reason I don’t know what.Do you trust me?” she continued, hoping that her voice could reach the little bipedal Fire-type.
Somewhere within the center of the vortex, Ravana then perked her ears up; before roaring another shout, confirming that she’d heard Izumi over all the flames that were now seriously attempting to lick her limbs. She then turned her head from side to side; and heard the voice from over the flames, “Keep building up your power! Dance a couple more times! Trust me, the flames won’t harm you, just hang in there until it goes out!”
Nodding, the Charmeleon then fell silent; before catching a fleeting glimpse of her bigger form through a hole in the flames; why did it look so calm, what the hell was it waiting for? In any case, the Charmeleon went through the motions of Dragon Dance once, then twice—and felt even more power than before welling up; as well as feeling much lighter on her feet.

The fire spin was still ongoing, and would for two turns more, Josh knew. Josh could sense Izumi's surprise at Fawkes suddenly tracing Ravana's movements and learning Dragon Dance like that, and even Josh himself was surprised by the intelligence, the focus and the attention to detail that Fawkes had and used. Fawkes always seemed to be the brutish type... But when it came to battle, it seemed he was more intelligent then Josh gave him credit for. He just wished he had a better way to bond with Fawkes. While he listened to him, he still had these... Outbursts that caused some serious trouble, and he would tend to disobey then.
Josh could sense the trust building in Izumi and Ravana as the Charmeleon let out a sound within the vortex. Izumi was trying to get it to build up power, and Josh would follow suit. "Dragon Dance, again and again!" Josh called out to Fawkes as he would mimic the movements of Ravana and continue building up speed and power... This was going to go down to the wire, he knew that. And he knew that soon, Ravana would exit the Fire Spin with fury. All Josh could do was prepare for Fawkes to match it.

She heard the Sassmaster doing the exact same thing that she’d been trying to set up for; whichw as to boost power with the mystical dance that boosted not just Attack, but Speed as well. Of course, since her Ravana was basically immobile within the swirling vortex of fire and flames, there was nothing that they could do. Making a move right now was just… outright risky; and she was getting slightly annoyed at the fact that Josh was mirroring her own moves—although her Ravana had a certain boost ahead of Fawkes, that was for sure. Once the lames went out, it was definitely going to be nothing but a crazy slugfest—of who could land the first hit on who; to say the least.
“Ravvie! Don’t go reckless on me now! Those flames are deadly in your current state, so don’t even think about jumping out and doing something nuts! Just… just hang in there for me, please; and max out all you can with the Dragon Dance!” she began, and she heard the flames were…flickering; petering out? Who could guess? She then heard an affirmative grunt, before it became a roar of approval coming from within the flames. Over on the Charmeleon’s side of things, she really couldn’t do anything else… just boost her stats all the way, to full power. As she retraced the mystical steps to the dance for what was hopefully the last time, she felt the wellspring stretching, almost fit to burst; and that was it; her stats were completely maxed out.
Now it would all boil down to who could move faster once the vortex trapping her receded…

Josh, indeed, was impressed by Fawkes's surprising tenacity and intelligence. But now, it boiled down to a stats battle. Who could use Dragon Dance and get the most speed and power the fastest! He knew that Ravana had a head-start due to Fawkes only using Swords Dance prior. Of course, how Swords Dance had managed to turn into Dragon Dance, he was unsure. But for now, he knew he had to think quick... Think of a strategy, think of a plan. Split second plans were Josh's specialty, and right then... A smirk hit his lips, crossed, quickly like a dart. He had his plan.
The flames licked at Ravana like a scorching hellfire, but the Charmeleon was trapped. Fawkes continued his Dragon Dance, and Josh would call out to him. "Alright Fawkes, just a little more! Two more Dragon Dances!" Josh would call as the Charizard would continue it's string of Dragon Dance. The blonde knew that the flames of the Fire Spin were beginning to wane. It wouldn't be long now! It would be a test of strength, of speed, of power... And it would be a fight worth remembering, spar or not. Fawkes had maxed out now... All they could do was wait.

The flames of the Fire Spin were most definitely thinning out—and it was now going to boil down to who could move first—would it be her, or him? “Ravvie, can you hear me?” she shouted over the ebbing roar of flickering fire, waiting for an answer. A few seconds later, an affirmative roar came from the thinning vortex, and she then nodded. “Alright, great. Just hold your ground… for now. Once the fires vanish… get moving. I can sense that this is going to be a race between who can knock out who the fastest…” she muttered; crossing her arms and wondering just what the hell Josh was doing on the other side of the vortex.
Over at where the Charmeleon was now standing absolutely still, filled to bursting with the mystical power she’d gained from all that Dragon Dancing, she could see that the flames were indeed beginning to peter out—but would it thin out fast enough in order for her to quickly close then distance and slug out her bigger self in two strikes? She continued to breathe in and out, trying to pick up what was going on outside of the pillar of fire—she could now most definitely see the other side; and there was some sort of a vapor rising from the Charizard—she didn’t realize it, but there was also a dark reddish aura overflowing from her and physically manifesting; the result from doing all that Dragon Dancing.
Post by Josh Dragomir on Feb 9, 2015 19:18:57 GMT -5
It had come down to this. They had both maxed out their stats, the Fire Spin raged on regardless, although waning... He knew that the strength of Ravana was ebbing. It would have to depend on Izumi in order to survive. Exactly what Josh had wanted. Baptism by fire... That was his plan all along. Now it was time to see how things would play out. He wouldn't hold back... And neither would Fawkes. He knew Fawkes trusted him, sometimes. Perhaps this would strengthen his bond with Fawkes as well... He had to do this. He had to prove to Fawkes that he could be a Trainer worthy of the Charizard's respect. The Fire Spin would end soon, Josh had to do something to take advantage of the situation while he still could.
"Fawkes, use Earthquake!" Josh would suddenly call. Fawkes would let out a roar before stomping the ground, causing tremors and shockwaves around it, going for Ravana. "While it's dealing with that, use Fire Pledge, knock it into the flames!" Josh would suddenly add. Fawkes would nod, seeming to have confidence in Josh here, in his plan... And as Ravana would be no doubt dealing with Earthquake, the Charizard would stomp the ground, causing holes to rapidly spread in a straight line toward the Charmeleon, each one turning into geysers of fire. The plan? To use them to knock Ravana in to the flames of the Fire Spin before it went out.
