Now that the year had officially changed and everything was updated to reflect everything in the proper manner, Kouji knew that it was another year, another fresh start… on searching through the Ruins for more of those weird, sparkly things! Sure, he may have spent most of New Year’s Eve trying to get the Ranch all ready for habitation, among other things, but otherwise it was all ready and good to go! He’d barely had time to shop for food items when he received the biggest surprise of his life: that his assistant had already gone and done one better—albeit it involved ordering a lot of pizza and fleet samplers instead from the local pizza joint. He did appreciate the effort, though.
Now that he’d woken up from the hangover of eating way too much pizza and fish sticks, and was now regretting not busting out the alcohol in order to see if his assistant did weird things while drunk, he was bundled up quite warmly against the biting cold weather that was blowing through the Ruins area. “First day of the new year and things are starting out on a rather freezing note,” he muttered, secretly glad that he’d worn his thermal underwear on such a day that required hunting. As he slowly descended the slippery path, he then saw the Ruins looming into view and knew that he was such a sucker for punishment—yes, he was back for more. “Alright, let’s do this…” he muttered to himself as he then plowed the way through the fallen snow, heading right into the entrance of the Ruins proper in order to begin the search.
He’d bring out his Grovyle later, for now he just wanted to sift through the mold and junk by himself. Wonder if I’m going to get something this time around… he thought to himself as he hopped over a fallen pillar and eased himself into the first room he came across…
Dig Dig Dig . . . What's this?! Congratulations, You've found a RELIC STATUE! A stone figure made in a civilization about 3,000 years ago. A maniac will buy it for a high price.

it didn’t take too long for Kouji to stumble upon something—and that something very nearly smacked him in the face, because he’d gotten quite used to hopping over fallen pillars, he very nearly missed the next steps and almost came to a crash landing…right in front of something he wasn’t too happy to see so early in the New Year. “Bleh. All the climbing over surfaces, and I come across this thing?” was his initial reaction, now considering it a good idea to get his Grovyle out, the better for him to help with the search. After picking himself up (and getting rid of all the muck and grit that had stuck to his clothes) he then plucked a certain containment unit, before sending out the Grovyle with the bent tail. It wasn’t as obvious as it was now, unlike before.
“Hello again, Mori,” he began, watching as the red flash of light materialized into a bipedal, green-colored reptilian who began sniffing the air and looking around curiously. “Can you look ahead for me? You know where to find me. Just follow the string of curses and that’s where I am,” he added with a chuckle, and the Grovyle then gave him a weird look, before sprinting on ahead with the aid of its Agility, leaving his master behind to continue looking around in that particular part of rooms that was just there, full of nothing but mold, grit, clutter and grime. “Blergh. The smell is still here…” he trailed off, pinching his nose ever so slightly, the better to avoid inhaling too much of the scent of what smelled like wet pavement after a stormy day that was permeating through the place.

This time, it would be the Grovyle that would eventually find something—but it was such an unusual “something”, it actually constituted the Pokémon to bring back the thing he’d found—which was a curious-looking rock that had some weird funny lines skewed right into it. Quite frankly, the Grovyle was confused, but he did understand that his master was looking for something—so the naturally curious reptilian Grass-type then scurried back as fast as he could mange (fallen rubble and overturned columns permitting) to where his master was now currently trying to pull something out of some collapsed ruins; because he thought he’d seen something sparkling in the gloom.
“Urrrrrgh,” he began, trying with all his might to reach as far in as he possibly could, because there was something he thought was of general interest glittering within. After realizing that his arm was quite possibly going to get stuck the further in he shoved it, he then sighed and pulled it out—just as the Grovyle had made his eventual reappearance, carrying something in its limbs with some difficulty. “Oh, hi there Mori—“he began when he noticed the thing in his companions’ grasp. Motioning for the Pokémon to come over, he waited until the Grovyle was close enough, and then hefted the thing in its grasp for a closer inspection. After seeing that it was something that looked quite familiar, he then brushed off the fine layer of dirt, before leaving it atop one of the crumbled columns.
“I already have one of them with me in cold storage… so… let’s keep looking, shall we?” he continued, before turning around and heading in a different direction, the Grovyle shuffling along beside him.

As the Grovyle and Kouji continued deeper into the Ruins, the Pokemon companion couldn’t help but look around rather skittishly—as if there was something bad that was going to happen. He then stole a glance at the reptilian companion, who kept on looking around back and forth, back and forth—as if he was trying to look for something he really couldn’t see. “Eh? Mori? What’s the matter?” he began, looking at the Grovyle rather curiously—before he unwittingly set a trap in motion, as his foot sank a few inches into the ground. The two then heard a rather loud clicking noise, which was then accompanied with a rumble—what the hell was happening?!
The Grovyle resisted the urge to screech in Kouji’s direction, as if tempted to say “I told you so!” but decided to start running as he had looked behind—and why the hell did it look like the hallway they were in was imploding?! “GRO! GROVYLE!” he heard Mori screech, before quickly boosting himself with Agility and zipping forward, the better to dodge the falling ceiling! “Ah, shit why did I not see this coming?!” Kouji shouted, in the most perfect show of irony ever as he picked up the pace as well, his long legs allowing him to take even longer strides as fast as he could manage—the rumbling noise was getting much louder, and he’d rather stay alive than dead, thank you very much! As the sound of crumbling rock echoed all around them, the Grovyle then let out a screech, before skidding to a halt and waiting for his master to catch up.
Now that Kouji was buzzed on adrenaline, he continued to run; running as fast and as far as he could while keeping an eye on the Grovyle and avoiding as much rubble and debris as he humanly could—and didn’t realize that they’d already jumped into a room where there was a lone pedestal. Upon that pedestal, was a marble. As he picked himself up and took in lungfuls of air in order to calm himself down, the Grovyle then caught his attention again, by pointing at the aforementioned pedestal—and when Kouji saw that there was something on it, he then approached it, his legs shaking, before finally catching sight of it. Right then and there, he burst out chuckling—was there irony everywhere today?
“Looks like this one is mine, definitely mine,” he continued, plucking up the marble from the pedestal and looking at it intently—it was the same one; one of the five he’d given to his benefactor for a late Christmas present. “You’re mine,” he added, before pocketing it at last.
