Since she was out of options for the Safari Zone, Izumi then decided to take things slowly—by taking only two Pokémon with her this time around. One of them was Momiji of course, handy as she was to have around. There was an ulterior motive as to why she had her longest companion with her right now—it was because she had an ulterior motive. Aforementioned ulterior motive became clear a few moments later as she emerged, holding a certain containment unit that had a rather…dead-pan Beldum inside it.
She’d seen what a Metagross was capable of; having watched the finals of the latest tournament that had concluded with the owner of the Metagross coming out on top of the pack. That alone was more than enough for her to get her own Beldum into the “daily grind”; now the problem was that it only had one move available to it—and that was Take Down.
Ugh, this is going to be a serious problem. Luckily Momiji has Heal Pulse and that sort of takes care of things… but… what am I going to name this thing? Zio? Zan? She thought to herself as she began tossing her Beldum’s containment unit up and down, while trying to think of a name. She’d had an epiphany for names earlier; but the problem was that they were all more suited for females; hell one of the name ideas she had was befitting for a triad… or triplets if she got the chance to raise them.
Now the thing is, she was out here all the way in the Bosky Hamlet, trying to look for something to effectively go up against without overexerting the Beldum’s form too much. “This is obviously much harder than it looks…” she began muttering, looking around and trying to see if there was going to be any opposition that would be bold enough to face her today.

Little did Izumi suspect that her Beldum, which made its appearance after emerging from the flash of red light, was behaving rather…errantly. She also had no idea that this little Beldum was descended from her shisho’s own Metagross, and that other entity wasn’t exactly…human either. The moment she saw the blue, weird thing pop out and then turned to gaze… more like outright stare at her with that singular red eye, she suspected that there was something rather…peculiar about this little one. “Now, now. I know this is your first time out… please don’t go off on me,” she began in the Beldum’s direction, which continued to stare at her like some weird, creepy little thing that didn’t have a soul at all.
Shaking off the rather…strange feeling that was overtaking her, she then sent out her other companion for the day, and breathed a sigh of relief as the tall, graceful Gradevoir made her appearance, unfurling herself to her full height (she was just one inch shorter than Izumi) and then looking at her quite oddly; before tilting her head to one side. “Voir?” she heard her almost-sister warble out, rather inquiringly—before noticing that the Beldum had turned its back on her and was now staring ahead—it had picked up on a presence that was…swarming their way. “Well, Momiji… first things first, can you set up your Safeguard for us, please? I’m here to train Zan,” she began, gesturing at the Beldum, “…and he needs a little help, edgewise. He can only use Take Down, so yeah,” she said rather sheepishly, and the Gardevoir then examined the Beldum once again—before shuddering herself; what was wrong with this blue little thing?
Momiji didn’t want to tell Izumi about it, but the Embrace ‘mon had picked up on something else—that the Beldum, in fact, knew more than just Take Down, and was just acting dumb in front of Izumi. The Beldum then seemingly snapped to attention; and the Gardevoir then saw it—there was a literal flock of…floating things headed their way! Right then and there, the Gardevoir raised her limbs to the heavens, seemingly calling out—but in fact she was just setting up with Safeguard; and for a few moments, a faint shimmering screen materialized, before disappearing entirely, shrouding the two Pokémon out on the field. It was a flock of birds, well—all of them were Drifloon, and that spelled trouble right away for Izumi—how could a Normal-type move do jack squat against Ghost-types? She then groaned, before realizing that this was going to be an exercise in futility—or so she thought it would be.
Right then and there, the Beldum decided to get the show on the road, quickly raising its defenses with Iron Defense as much as it could apply onto itself without tipping the scales too much, and Izumi just continued to…stare on in awe as the Beldum seemingly conjured up defensive shields, shining a weird sheen of silver, around the Beldum several times. The Gardevoir then stared back at her, before deciding to watch the proceedings with much interest. The incoming flock of Drifloon then zoomed in right away; quickly letting out a series of Gusts, and seemingly as one unit, sent the multiple Gusts of wind right at the Beldum, who was just…staring rather coldly at the entire proceedings. The blasts of air buffeted the Beldum, but he didn’t care at all—because his Defenses were stacked up so high at this point, it was nothing more than a tickle.
Several moments later, the Beldum had seemingly levitated over to where the Drifloon were regrouping, but the Drifloon horde was faster—as one, they had unleashed several balls of ghostly energy, which the Gardevoir recognized—and then quickly tugged at Izumi’s sleeve, trying to warn her of the impending danger! “I…I know, Momo. I can see it. But… seeing as Zan is moving by himself…let him tackle this alone. I want to see what he can do…” she muttered as several Shadow Balls went screaming in the Beldum’s direction, forcing it backwards—yet he continued to press on, even if the attacks were really hurting at this point in time. “Zan! Do it on your own terms!” she shouted from the sidelines, before nodding in the Gardevoir’s direction, and then muttering from one side of her mouth, “Shower him with your Heal Pulse continuously, so that he can keep going,” and the Gardevoir then raised one of her limbs and quickly unleashed a blast of energy, centering around the Beldum—who was still valiantly weathering the storm of Shadow Balls; the better to get close to the bothersome Drifloon.
Even if the Beldum felt its energy being sapped away due to the super-effective attacks that were smacking it head-on, it felt like the damage was being mitigated—and a quick about-face revealed the reason why: the Gardevoir had one arm raised and pointed directly at him, before feeling the sudden upspring of energy welling inside him. Feeling rather energized now that the Drifloon barrage had run out of Shadow Ball attacks, it then quickly proceeded to unload the other two attacks—one of which Izumi recognized as Zen Headbutt, because the circular region where its singular red eye was located was glowing rather strangely; before slamming himself head-on into the first Drifloon, before repeating the process again. It was a strange feeling, because the more he began applying himself…the more he liked it.
Again and again, the Beldum continued to ram himself into the flock of Drifloon, whittling down their numbers bit by bit—and by this time there were two that had been knocked out of the picture; with five remaining. Seeing as things were going nowhere, and fast, the Beldum changed tactics and then quickly rammed himself rather recklessly at the Drifloon that continued to charge his way. Izumi noticed that it was moving in the exact same motions as Take Down would be executed, but at the very last second the Beldum had switched to Iron Head, ramming its head rather…heavily at the Drifloon that was attempting to catch it with an Astonish attack. It had failed, though; since the Beldum was now clearly ramming his head over and over, again and again on the other two Drifloon that had tried to stand up for themselves.
Now that four were taken out of the picture, the other three then whispered amongst themselves—and decided to literally go out with a bang! It was as if their moves were highly orchestrated—the three Drifloon then veered in quite close, almost suicidally—before all three of them when off in a brilliant Explosion of energy; literally blowing themselves up in a vain attempt to take the Beldum with them. Izumi then shrieked at the sudden “lights show”, before ducking and bringing the Gardevoir down with her—for the resulting shock waves from the simultaneous blasts ripped through the clearing, throwing up dust and debris. After the fallout had cleared, both human and Gardevoir stood up—and saw that the Beldum was still there, staring at the fallen bodies of the Drifloon rather uncaringly.
“Brrr, cold,” she muttered, shivering at the sight. “How did you even survive—oh, right…Iron Defense. You’re a sneaky little thing, aren’t you, Zan,” she continued, before cracking a smile and then proceeding on their way; the Drifloon levitating alongside the Gardevoir as they continued to search for more… targets to practice on.

Apparently the weird thing with Zan wasn’t over yet—because this time around, both Izumi and Momiji felt something abuzz in the air. To the human, she felt all the hairs on the back of her neck prickle and stand up; as well as that on her arms—while for the Pokémon, it was a rather…ominous, monotonous buzzing that was emanating through the air. The Gardevoir then quickly turned towards the human, who was trying to rub down the hair that had stood up on its own—when several exploding noises made their presence felt. “What—what the hell is that?” she began, covering her ears due to the proximity of the noises that were beginning to shake through the clearing. “I know, I know Momiji… it’s crazy…” she continued as the Embrace ‘mon quickly stepped in front of her—but the little Beldum was just slightly ahead of them, so the next best thing she could do was to throw up another Safeguard screen; that shrouded all three of them before disappearing with a small pop.
The ground began to rumble rather ominously not too long afterwards, and she tried her best to keep her balance—by changing her standing position to one that she’d remembered him teaching her a long time ago—who that he was, wasn’t important unless one knew Izumi and her Gardevoir directly—and everything then just came back into the present, because for some reason there were approximately nine of the weird, rolling…things. She faintly recognized one of the two (the one that was white and red, and had a rather menacing sneer) but the other one she couldn’t place; however the moment they all started buzzing in their rather monotone language, she knew that it was going to be trouble. “Zan!” she began, and she waited for the Beldum to turn around to face her—which it did a few moments later—“Do that thing earlier! Max out your Iron Defense, because those things look rather pissed off! And do what you must! Just send them all packing!”
The three Electrode and six Voltorb were still convening before they all heard the sound of something snapping loudly—they heard it three times, in fact. It was the sound of the Beldum tightening its defenses via Iron Defense—now here’s to praying that the same little disaster of exploding little Drifloons didn’t happen again. In answer to the little Iron Defense thing, the three Electrodes quickly pulled up their own “version” of the screen—but strangely it wasn’t like its Iron Defense, it sparkled differently. “Oh, what are they up to now…” she began, before the first Electrode began rolling forward, electricity crackling around its body! “Block it as best as you can!” she continued, and then muttered the same words to the Gardevoir, “Get your Heal Pulse going on Zan, we don’t want a repeat of what happened earlier… I suspect trouble…” and looked back to the scene of the battle, watching as the Gardevoir then raised her arms, the better to channel the healing energy directed towards the Beldum, who was now…glowering at the first incoming Electrode.
The Electrode was coming in really fast, really soon—it had faked out; at the very last second the electricity crackling around its surface evaporated, instead revealing the Electrode grinning maniacally in a Rollout attack; but instead of it smacking as hard as it could into the Beldum, it felt…like an absolute tickle to the Beldum! Annoyed that there was something twitching upon smacking the emotionless, genderless levitating blue thing head-on, the Beldum then quickly lowered its head and retaliated with an Iron Head, knocking the Electrode back! Of course, the circular thing took much offense to the move that had smacked it away from the little Beldum, and proceeded to continue into the Rollout sequence. Upon second contact with the little blue thing, it had decided to retaliate with a Zen Headbutt, smacking it further away than it had earlier!
The Electrode was not amused, and with another loud buzzing, the other two joined him, and all three were now charging at the Beldum, all of them using Rollout as an opening salvo, ramming themselves into the Beldum like bowling balls—or at least, attempting to ram themselves into the Beldum, who was now…chuckling, or at least attempting to chuckle as three consecutive users of Rollout were batted and bashed away, either with variations of Zen Headbutt or Iron Head. After a while, it appeared that Zen Headbutt was more effective; as compared to the Iron Head that only sent the Electrodes a few paces away—the Zen Headbutt knocked them back, and as of the moment the three Electrodes were clustered together like bowling balls. “Zan, end it, now!” she shouted, and the Beldum rushed forward—and so did Electrode #1. This Electrode was now unloading its most powerful Rollout on it—having rammed itself four times already. This was the fifth attempt, and if it didn’t connect… instead, the Beldum then rammed itself rather bodily with Take Down; and then chaining into a Zen Headbutt, knocking the first Electrode down and out of the picture. The other two the continued to spam their Rollout, but were eventually batted back by the Beldum, who was holding its own.
Even if the little Beldum was taking damage, it was being negated at the same time due to the Heal Pulse that the Gardevoir had set upon it; and now the six Voltorb were agitated—because their valued leaders were gone! It was looking to be another repeat of the entire carnage with the Drifloon all over again—the first one then charged forward… more like, rolled itself forward, and was shimmering a faint shade of metallic silver all over—what was it going to use? The answer became obvious a few seconds later; as the first Voltorb then rammed itself into the Beldum with Gyro Ball—but it was a big mistake, because another Zen Headbutt had smacked it backwards, causing it to recoil and switch gears! Instead, it then veered in as close as it could go, before unleashing an almighty Explosion at point-blank range! The first burst of light made Izumi shriek; but the Gardevoir was still pointing at the Beldum (Heal Pulse still in effect) and after the lights had cleared…
The Beldum then turned around and just stared at Izumi.
“The hell, you’re a durable little thing…” she muttered, as the Gardevoir continued to unload its Heal Pulse on the Beldum, who had turned around once more and was now facing the remaining five Voltorb. The five of them were speaking in their buzzing language; and had apparently agreed to do something; that something was… something she was not exactly expecting at all. “Momo, turn that Heal Pulse up to full power…” she said from one side of her mouth as the five Voltorb then proceeded to roll down the hill, like one crazy parade—and the Beldum braced itself. The first one then came in close for a Swift attack, spraying star-shaped projectiles towards the Beldum, who then rushed at it, batting it backwards with Take Down while taking the damage of the Swift attack in stride, before switching to Zen Headbutt, and finally countering it with another Zen Headbutt.
This sent the other four Voltorb into a frenzy, and the second one then made a mad rush towards the Beldum, finally fed up with its annoyance and unloaded a Self-Destruct on the Beldum before it could even react. As the rubble cleared out, the Beldum was still standing (thanks to the Heal Pulse) and the Voltorb was passed out. Now the other three were miffed; and they finally did the single most intelligent thing they could do: came in for a simultaneous Explosion chain attack! Izumi then screamed as the three Voltorbs were glowing, before going off in one big bright bang, much like a certain character literally blowing themselves up in a vain attempt to exterminate their target. The Gardevoir kept the Heal Pulse going until the very last second, and even ducked down as Izumi tackled her to the ground in order to protect her from the sudden hail of debris. After spending several moments on the ground, both human and ‘mon looked up, before seeing that the Voltorbs were all dead; yet the Beldum… it was still standing.
“You’re one hell of a tank, Zan, you know that?” she continued, and with a nod, the Gardevoir then unloaded another Heal Pulse, healing up the Beldum to full health, as they waited for the next…horde to come across their path.

This time, however, it was no longer a horde of creatures that was headed their way—rather, it was a single, solitary figure; and that “lone ranger” headed their way was… floating?! Izumi and the Gardevoir then blinked; before realizing that it was a sight for sore eyes! “At last, after all that uproar, Zan here can finally focus on a one-on-one thing,” she said, sighing out of relief before looking at the Gardevoir, who was just as relieved as she was. The aforementioned Beldum was still levitating in front of the two, and with a nod, the Gardevoir then set up another Safeguard screen, snapping into place before popping and vanishing; ensuring that nothing status-damaging would be flung their way. In retaliation, the incoming sword-like thing (which Izumi recognized at once, being the previous form of her Muromachi) then suddenly scraped the hilt of its “sheath” against its blade, producing an ear-splitting sound that cut through the clearing!
The Gardevoir quickly covered her own “ears” with her limbs, before recoiling out of terror; while Izumi had to turn away at the sound—it was the kind that could really get on a person’s nerves, at any rate. The Beldum, however, was not affected—and then as she looked forward again, she then gave the command, “Deal with it in your own way, Zan. I give you permission. Do what you need to,” she continued, before waving—leaving the Beldum to have free rein over how it was going to fight the thing in front of him. For starters, the sound of Iron Defense being set up—and three times, at that—came their way; a response to the weird Metal Sound—and as it veered in for a smacking, the Beldum quickly retaliated by swinging its body around; before smashing the blade head-on with a Zen Headbutt! The Honedge then retreated, before slamming the blade against the offending Beldum.
“Why do I have a feeling this is going to get ugly?” she asked the Gardevoir, to which the Embrace ‘mon shrugged in response. Over at where the Honedge and Beldum were currently battling it out; the Honedge had decided to do its own version of Iron Defense—apparently it had observed the defensive maneuvers that the Beldum was now pulling off—and for a moment, both stood frozen; as if anticipating what the opposite was going to do. Over at where Izumi and Momiji were watching things, the human then nodded at the Gardevoir, who then unleashed Heal Pulse on the Beldum without another word, knowing what exactly she needed to do. Back at where the two were now waiting for each other to move—it was the Honedge that had taken the first move. After stacking up its own defenses with Iron Defense, it then employed something—although Izumi didn’t know what it was called, the Honedge had activated Power Trick, therefore switching its Defense with Attack; and now the blade was swinging rather viciously at the Beldum; currently bolstered by the Heal Pulse.
With another ear-splitting clanging noise, the Honedge had begun to swing its blade rather recklessly at the Beldum, who was waiting for the opportune moment to strike—even if Power Trick had boosted its Attack in place of its Defense, the Defense of the Beldum was now rock-bottom; and after another vicious swing (which the Beldum weathered thanks to the Heal Pulse) the Beldum had decided that now was the time to retaliate, unleashing a Zen Headbutt at point-blank range; and the sound of metal crashing against metal echoed throughout the clearing. Seeing that the Honedge was now thrown off-balance by the actions of the Beldum, it attempted to block with its hilt; but the Beldum was now on the warpath, coming in for another Zen Headbutt, and the sound of steel crashing on steel again rang through the clearing.
The Honedge was trapped—the Beldum was now advancing with what qualified as an “evil grin” on its normally stoic face; and with another ramming motion with the thing that was its head—another Zen Headbutt had knocked the Honedge aside. Realizing that the Defense of the sword-like thing wasn’t as built up as it was—because fellow kin could recognize when other kin had a move they knew (hell, the Honedge had used Iron Defense in a similar way the Beldum had done, by shielding itself in a metallic sheen) the Beldum continued to plow and hack away (in a manner of speaking) at the Honedge; before the Honedge finally collapsed to the dirt some fifteen minutes later of intense…headbutting rage; and the Beldum turned around to face the two again. In response, the Gardevoir then unloaded another dose of Heal Pulse on the by-now-battered Beldum, and Izumi blinked, watching the scratches fade away gradually.

It didn’t take too long for the Beldum to be healed back up to full health—now there was another problem; there was another screeching noise permeating the air. Shaking her head and wondering just what the hell was causing this noise this time around, the Gardevoir then looked at Izumi, who nodded. “Safeguard, and be ready to heal,” she muttered, and the Embrace ‘mon then raised her arms up, conjuring another one of the special shields, which shimmered in the air around them (Beldum included) before disappearing with a pop. The Beldum then looked around, staring right at them, before Izumi nodded in its direction—it then faced forward again. Aforementioned racket was being caused by the Klink that was headed their way; the two gears were apparently arguing about something only they could understand.
“…the hell is that noise,” she began, clapping her hands over her ears; and the Gardevoir’s face contorted into one of disgust at the gear-grinding, scratching noise that echoed throughout the area. as the Klink made its presence felt, the two stopped squabbling—for the moment. Without further ado, the Klink then sprang into action, using Shift Gear to raise its Attack and Speed. Now that it felt much faster, it then zoomed in on the Beldum, who was just there, waiting and watching for the opponent to make the first move. Izumi then shouted from behind him, “Zan, what are you waiting for?! Get moving! it’s coming in for a—“she trailed off as the Klink then suddenly tossed its…companion, having used the Gear Grind (not that she knew what it was called, since her own Klink didn’t know that) attack! The smaller of the two gears squealed as it went airborne—but the Beldum was still staring at the incoming thing!
“Get out of the way! Smack it out of the air with Zen Headbutt, or Iron Head, I don’t know what you want, but just get the thing out of the way! NOW!” she screeched the last words out, and as if on cue, the Beldum finally got moving; feeling the other gear crash against its body before whizzing back to its companion. It was unperturbed, but it was annoyed. “Smack it with Take Down! Go!” she continued, watching as the Beldum then charged forward rather recklessly, attempting to smash his body into the thing. As the two metallic Pokemon hit each other, another ear-splitting noise rang through the clearing—but since the Klink was also of the same typing as the Beldum, the attack did little! In retaliation, the Klink then unleashed another ear-splitting Screech—stunning the Beldum for a few seconds; before quickly chucking its smaller half in another Gear Grind attack!
The second gear struck the Beldum soundly across the head, forcing it backwards—this was the first time that the Beldum had been actually injured—now that the two were staring each other down, Izumi could only watch as the two were now squaring off—the Klink on one side, Zan on the other. After a few seconds of standing off, she then shouted from the sidelines, “Iron Defense now, Zan! High as you can go! Then I don’t care, use either Zen Headbutt, or Take Down, or Iron Head, whatever, just take care of that thing! It’s out to get you!” before folding her hands across her chest, and watching the rest of the battle unfold. In response to the Beldum raising its defenses via Iron Defense; the Klink then began to use Shift Gear, raising both its Attack and Speed at the same time—before quickly chaining it into a Metal Sound, several in fact—the harsh sound echoed throughout the space, causing both Izumi and Momiji to clamp their hands over their ears!
The Beldum recoiled slightly at the grating sound that ripped through the space; but now that its Defenses were raised to optimal levels, it then charged forward, knowing that it had been given free reign over what it could do to the Klink, who was now chucking its partner right at…him! Well, technically, the Beldum line had no gender, but in Izumi’s mind, she considered Zan to be a “he”. Initially, he was charging in the Take Down stance; but then shifted at the last second, veering in close and giving the Klink a Zen Headbutt up the side! Knowing that the Klink was in imminent danger without its partner, the Beldum then rammed himself bodily at the Klink again, trying to force the darned thing out of the clearing! The Klink was just as relentless, though—literally, the two gears were taking turns using Gear Grind in order to at least damage the Beldum a little. Izumi then sighed, before watching the two literally batting each other back and forth. This is going to take a while… she thought to herself as she watched the two Steel-types battle it out. Some fifteen minutes later, the Klink was finally driven away, and the now-exhausted Beldum then dragged himself rather…bodily across the clearing, before collapsing in Izumi’s hands.
She then slightly tensed her muscles—because who knew that Beldum were that heavy—and then gave the Gardevoir a knowing grin, to which Momiji nodded, before showering the exhausted Beldum with another dosage of Heal Pulse.

Who knew that after the end of all of the ‘mons that had dared cross their path, something spectacular, almost magical, would happen…? As Izumi struggled with the weight of the tired and slumbering Beldum (she could tell, because the singular red eye that normally stared at her quite unsettlingly was closed), she thought she could feel its body getting…hotter in her grasp. “Eh…?” she began, before looking down at the heavy little one, and the Gardevoir’s senses perked up, before quickly backing away. “Momo? What… what’s the matter?” she asked her companion, to which the Embrace ‘mon could only point—the weird sensation that one normally experienced with evolution was taking place right this very second with her Beldum!
“Wha—WHOA!” she shrieked, before quickly letting her sleeping Beldum lay…flat on the ground, and the light pouring out of it was so powerful, she was forced to shield her eyes with both her arms as she took a few steps backwards. The Gardevoir was also watching in awe—she didn’t know how evolution looked like, all she felt was that she was growing taller and more intimidating—and at the weird burning sensation, even her Beldum had awoken as well, and literally was shocked; or what qualified as shocked for the Beldum race—as the lights engulfed it completely. After the entire lights show was over, and the smoke cleared, Izumi shook her head. Instead of seeing the weird little soulless thing, saw that Zan finally had a pair of eyes; and the better part about this was, he had limbs!
“Zan… oh my gosh Zan, look at you!” she continued, before the Gardvoir gave an approving nod—it was at this point that Momiji felt…something disturbing her consciousness; it was Zan, apparently reaching out to her! The Gardevoir then gave this look in Izumi’s direction, before gently pulling her sleeve. “Eh? What? Zan… wait. What…?!” she stammered, before seeing the images in her mind’s eye of what her Gardevoir was going through. “Alright, Momiji… calm down. Zan, you too. Let’s go somewhere a bit more secluded to discuss this… as best as we can manage,” she said, after massaging her temples—looks like she’d be calling her Kadabra out in order to be able to help translate everything that the Metang and the Gardevoir were talking about!
