After the rather…disappointing venture they had in one of the spots at the Badlands, Izumi knew that they were running out of time—and that they had to capitalize on whether or not they were still going to go dig or turn in for the day. But since they were already out here, there was nothing else to do but get to it, right? So they had decided to hike far, deep into the Badlands where nobody had ventured. She knew that the entire excavation site spanned several hectares; mostly taking up the “dry” area that surrounded the north-western side of Kalos. She knew that the region’s Power Plant was out here somewhere; and was hoping that they didn’t have to hike that far in order to be able to find something good. In any case, the Grotle and Lucario were walking alongside her, looking around and just waiting for their cue to go off and dig. She then looked around behind her, and hollered in her companion’s direction, “What’re you waiting for?”
This was the furthest that she’d gone; normally she would stay within sight of the “watch towers” that dotted the place. But they were informed that since they were still exploring the desolate area themselves and they’d just found a few more untouched spots where people could dig, she then decided to herself, why not take the chance then? She then whistled as she stuck her shovel down in the spot of ground; before waiting for Josh and his companions to come over. She knew that she had to give them a pep talk; and that even her own ‘mons were on the disheartened side. But at least they were getting in some extra “training” on the side…

Josh was honestly starting to get irritated. No matter what they did, they just couldn't seem to find what they were looking for. They'd wasted so much that now it was just a pain, plain and simple. Seriously, how much more did they have to endure to find the stones that they craved so much? This had been such a consumer of time and energy, and while they used to be able to find good stones, their luck had dwindled to nothing the last two months. What had happened? Had they all been found and claimed? Nah... Hopefully as they moved closer to more dangerous territory, the rewards for the bigger risks would be greater.
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" he called as he, Lightning, Destructor and Inferno followed Izumi. Once they came to a stop, Josh would motion to his Pokemon to get started. "Gra!" Inferno let out as he quickly used Dig. "Bunnelby!" Destructor called as he got digging. "Pika!" Lightning chirped before he... Picked up his trowel and got digging.
Josh would nudge Izumi, trying to comfort her in some way.. Before he grabbed his shovel and got digging.

It didn’t take too long before Izumi had managed to find a spot, and had begun to dig. Little did she know that they’ ventured out to literally, one of the most dangerous, unexplored, unchartered areas that the Badlands had to offer—which was part of the risk they were taking. As she began to dig over at her area—while trying to keep an eye on the Lucario and Grotle who were still also trying to search and help their mistress with the effort—she thought she’d felt the earth tremble. Wondering if it was just a slight tremor, she brushed it off and moved over to another spot—but there they were again, the tremors that were shaking under her feet! What was going on? She looked over at Vincent with raised eyebrows, only to be met with a look that borderlined on puzzlement and confusion—when she heard her Grotle begin to growl, as if backed into a corner. “Uh-oh…” she began, quickly stabbing the shovel into the place where she was digging, completely missing the perfectly oval-shaped, smooth-surfaced stone that she was about to uncover.
There were several mole-like creatures headed their way—and they were all evolved, even—in a straight line right towards where the Grotle was using Earth Power in order to be able to “sift” through the ground! She didn’t know what they were, but there were three distinct entities; each with three…semblances of heads; and she didn’t know what the hell they were called—only that they were here to cause some trouble! “Haya! Cut down on the Earth Power—we’re under attack!” she shouted, quickly assuming a stance some distance behind the Grotle, who looked up in time and saw the three Dugtrio were now headed their way—and were looking quite pissed off as well. “Josh, sorry if the area suddenly heats up—we have invaders headed our way. Keep digging! I’ll hold them off!” she shouted in his direction, before returning her attention to the Grotle, who was now hunched, holding her ground and waiting for Izumi to start issuing orders. At a sharp whistle, she then stood up tall, before the raven-haired Trainer pointed forward and then began, “Turn up the heat, girl! Then wait for them to make the first move!”
The Grotle then grunted, before the two bushes on its back quivered before snapping at attention—and overhead, the blustery weather suddenly became hot, arid and sunny! She knew that Sunny Day had been activated on her side of the field; because she was planning on going for the big moves right away—but the Dugtrio were the first to strike, all three of them sending out varying quantities of balls of packed mud right at the Grotle! “Alright, cut it all down! Solarbeam!” came the order, and the Grotle immediately let loose with a great blast of solar energy, cutting down and practically “incinerating” the packed balls of mud into nothingness; since they were wet and sticky. The Grotle then began swinging its head in a slow, side to side sweeping motion, making sure to cut down any and all remaining projectiles. Now that the projectiles had been cut down, the first Dugtrio then began firing off even more mud; to which she countered, “Haya! Seed Bomb!” and watched as the rather heavy-looking Grotle quickly take off at a running start, before launching herself into the air despite her bulk, and swiveling around before unloading the payload of hard-shelled seeds right at the Dugtrio who were now confused—where had their target gone?!
The second Dugtrio then released a blast of triple energy—which she recognized as Tri Attack, and whistled as shrilly as she could; since the Grotle was still in the air. With another sudden blast, another Solarbeam cut through the three incoming Dugtrio; dispersing the Tri Attack into thin air. The third Dugtrio was still in the battle; having used Magnitude—causing the ground to shake! “Razor Leaf!” she shouted as she felt her balance suddenly shift from side to side as an apparently strong Magnitude attack shook the area! A sudden burst of leaves cut through the air; slicing down and striking the third Dugtrio—who then followed up with yet another Solarbeam, obliterating the other two Dugtrio who were now headed in Josh’s direction…
As the Grotle came to a four-point landing on her belly, she then saw that the Lucario had made his way over to her—holding the same oval-shaped stone that she was about to unearth. Realizing that it wasn’t what they needed, she then flicked a thumb over her shoulder; and the Lucario understood, taking careful aim before sending the Oval Stone flying into the underbelly of the Badlands.

Well, that had escalated quickly. As they dug, a couple of Dugtrio (No pun intended) decided to make themselves known. But it wasn't long before Izumi had made short work of them. He chuckled a bit. "Very nice, Izumi" he commented with a smirk. It was just then that a Hippopatos decided that it didn't like people intruding on it's territory, and would charge with Double Edge. Josh saw it coming a mile away and pulled out a Pokeball. "Go, Espio!" he called. "Use Hydro Pump!" he told the Frogadier as it came out of it's Pokeball. "Diiier!" he called as he would shoot a large jet of water toward the Hippo, sending it back and stopping it in it's tracks. The Hippo wouldn't take this lying down though, and was quick to stomp the ground, sending out shockwaves. "Bounce!" Josh called to the Frogadier, who would leap into the air, high up, dodging the shockwaves. The Hippo would respond by looking up and shooting out sleep bubbles, using Yawn! "Quick, dodge them!" Josh called to Espio as he would dodge and weave through the air as he fell. "Now, Bounce!" He called again, holding a hand in the air and making a fist as the Frogadier would crash into the Hippopatos, causing it to reel back a bit. "Hydro Pump again!" Josh called as he bounced off it, and Espio would quickly shoot the large jets of water at it again. The Hippo was obviously having a hard time, and would quickly flee.
Josh took a breath and smirked. "Alright, take a break. Good job" he said to the Frogadier as he returned him to his Pokeball, then got back to digging.

Izumi then got back to digging—but caught sight of a cloud of dust that was approaching Josh; and a few moments later it turned out to be some weird, brownish, land-version of a hippopotamus coming out of the dust; before quickly starting to cause trouble! She was about to send Hayato to help out with the scuffle, but saw that there was a frog-like humanoid that had taken the scene; and was sorely reminded of her own Froakie, Sakura, which she still had to raise for her own. “Heh, looks like you got it under control,” she began, before noticing that there was something else—and it was headed her way this time! Don’t tell me it’s another one of those weird earthworms… she thought as her eyebrows shot up—and she then whistled in Vincent’s direction. “Lu?” she heard the jackal-like Pokémon croon out, as he headed her way. “Vince, can you keep digging here for me? I have to position myself closer to Hayato. I know it must be boring, but think of it like training—the more you expose yourself to the elements, the more we can get used to handling all sorts of weird stuff,” she said in an undertone, before gently patting the Lucario’s head.
As the jackal-like Pokemon then took over at the spot where she had begun excavating, she saw that…the same hippo-like creature was back for more?! Or was it the same one—because this one was slightly bigger; she had a suspicion that they’d disturbed a wild habitat. “Oh boy… let’s get back into action… Haya, stop digging again! I’m sorry, but we have to keep the area secure! Can you take care of that—“she trailed off; when the approaching hippo suddenly conjured up a blast of wind followed by an assault of grit—and then made the earth tremble! “Ah, crap, the thing wants to fight! Haya! Jump up high and take it out with Seed Bomb!” she began, as she herself took a leap skywards in order to avoid the brunt of the Earthquake damage. As she realized that the Sunny Day she’d whipped up earlier was overwritten by the blast of grit that was now swirling around the battlefield, she knew that she had to let this one steam—and the little weird hippo began to make the earth tremble once more; this time definitely knocking her down and causing her to go off-balance. As she crashed to the ground, hissing all manner of curses under her breath, she caught sight of a shadow that was airborne—it was her Grotle; and the sound of smacking shells against the attacking hippo Pokémon was heard, even over the howl of the wind and dirt blowing through the area.
The weird hippo then let out a bellow of rage as the Seed Bomb attack smacked it from above; and it then turned its attention skywards—only to let loose what appeared to be a huge, bored yawn! “Get down on the ground, girl!” she shouted, and the exhalation of air that the Hippopotas had released sailed away harmlessly; before it then charged forward, smacking the Grotle as it came down for a four-point landing. She heard the Grotle grunt, but realized that it was at extremely close range, so she continued, “Mega Drain, sap it of its energy!” she hollered over the Sandstorm, and the Grotle quickly launched a ray of seemingly draining energy right in the Hippopotas’ face. The Hippopotas, who’d veered in too close to care by way of a Take Down attack; had initially hit the Grotle hard; but from the way that the Mega Drain attack was washing over it in a flash of green light, the tables were suddenly turned! As the Hippopotas felt it strength being drained out of her, she struggled to pull away from the Grotle, who suddenly retaliated with a Razor Leaf in order to keep it trapped, as it was sapping away the energy that the Hippopoptas was trying to hang on to in vain.
As the Grotle regenerated its health, it then knocked away the Hippopotas with several stamps of its feet; causing several instances of Earth Power to rip through the surface, and batted the Hippopotas aside and back into the underbelly of the Badlands. As the Grotle began walking back, looking none the wiser (and apparently fully healed) the Lucario then made his way over again, holding a weird slab of rock that looked miscolored—definitely didn’t match the hue of the dirt here—and upon closer examination, saw that it was something…she hadn’t seen before. Hmm, definitely nothing like the clear piece I found the last few times… Izumi thought to herself as she then motioned for Vincent to leave it somewhere, and to continue searching instead.

More and more Pokemon just kept coming, he thought. What had they done to anger them, he wondered? But while they dug, it wasn't long before Josh was shot at with stars, which he just barely backed away from. Something had used Swift on him!
Sandshrew! That was what Josh had heard something call. Now that he had a better look at his assailant, he noticed it seemed more... Aggressive, more angry looking then any Sandshrew he'd ever seen. Now that he thought about it, the other Pokemon had been more aggressive then their natural behavior allowed.. Was something disturbing them?
He didn't have time to think about it as he sent out his Marshtomp. "Go, Dunamus!" he said, bring out the Marshtomp, who Izumi would recognize as the Mudkip from Chimney. The Shrew would quickly use Earthquake, sending out shockwaves. "Leap up!" Josh called to Dunamus, who would use his new two legs to leap into the air. "Hydro Pump!" he called as the Marshtomp would quickly shoot a large jet of water that hit the Sandshrew dead on, sending it back with a Super Effective attack. But Sandy wasn't through as Dumb Old Texas kept on yandering like a jittery bag of ham, shooting a Swift attack toward the Marshtomp as it started to come back down. As Josh would call for Marshy to try and dodge it, he wondered if... Can we say that SHOES from Texas are dumb?
Regardless, the guaranteed hit stars hit their mark, smacking the Marshtomp across the back. Luckily, Dunamus was part Ground type, so the move didn't hurt so much. "Take Down!" Josh would call to Dunamus, who would ram himself into the aggressive Sandshrew as it tried to use Rapid Spin. They would collide, sending both back. "Finish it with Hydro Pump while it's groggy!" Josh said to Dunamus, who would take advantage of his Ground typing to take less damage from Rapid Spin and shoot a large torrent of water, hitting Sandshrew dead on and sending it flying. Far across the Badlands.
"Good job, Dunamus" he said, patting him on the head. The Marshtomp would just stare at him, but he shrugged it off. Looks like he was only happy on and off. He would punt the result of his dig, a stupid junk rock, and keep digging.
He looked over at Izumi. "Hey, we should finish up here soon..." he said, taking a breath. Something was obviously bothering him. "The Pokemon seem to be behaving strangely... Haven't you noticed it?" he asked her.

Izumi had gone over to a spot closer to the Grotle in order to be able to keep an eye on her while she herself was digging through the Badlands in the process—and blinked, as she noticed that there was another scuffle breaking out over at where Josh was digging. This time she recognized the little one that had dared to tread upon where they were digging; however she couldn’t help but think back—why were they only appearing now? Why didn’t any of the wild ones appear in their previous attempts earlier? Was it because they were so far way from “civilization”, that the Badlands let them run wild? She then paused at a rather curious remark that he made; before furrowing her brow. She’d managed to watch the last part of the little scuffle, seeing a huge torrent of water shoot the rather agitated, aggressive Sandshrew across the Badlands, right back into the underbelly of the area before choosing her words carefully.
“Someone who told me about the wild ones who appear here said that normally they’re just curious, and would just watch us humans until they go away or get bored of observing—but yeah, come to think of it, why are they acting all violent? It’s definitely not normal activity…what do you suspect’s going on?” she asked, after composing what she had to say and picking up the shovel, before continuing to dig at the new spot where she was located. “Don’t tell me you’re psychic or something—because even if I believe in that weird mumbo-jumbo, I still have a shred of practicality… but what about you? Is it familiar, or…?” she trailed off as she heard a very familiar, ominous-sounding crack shatter the somewhat abrupt silence. As she lifted the blade of the shovel, she saw that there was another rocky…ornament that now lay in several shards and pieces. “Well, oops. What do you say; we do our December searching together as well? We can cover more ground as compared to doing it alone…” she suggested, waiting for a response from him.
