Kouji had decided that it was a long-enough break that he’d taken from digging through the Badlands excavation site—and was not surprised to get more than a few messages from his benefactor, hissing about how nothing but the weird “Relic” series of items had appeared during the past few times she’d gone digging by herself. Well, how was I to know that people were getting nothing but duds? I just had a bit of additional business to attend to, and I come back to this? He thought with an amused grin on his face as he quickly packed his light backpack with enough sandwiches to last the remaining time he had left to search through the site, before hoisting in another few flasks of water and then zipping the entire thing closed. Once his attire was presentable enough—consisting of comfortable shorts, a nice, airy shirt along with his trusty pair of boots and a cap atop his hair, he then picked up the backpack, grabbed the shovel and set out from the rented flat in Lumiose and then headed out to the Badlands.
It didn’t take too long for him to actually arrive at the location—and he was surprised to see that even this late in the afternoon, people were still searching for the shiny marbles; and boy did he have an unusual one with him right now. After snapping a picture and sending it to his benefactor, who then said that she wanted it and said to send it to her after amassing enough of his own to send her in one big go, he was back—looking out at the stretches of land once again. “Heh, we meet again, Badlands. Let’s see what secrets you have to hide this time around,” he said with a grin on his face; his Krookodile out and ready to dig. After a few minutes of hiking, they had picked a spot that was as good as any, and after a few pets on the snout, the Krookodile had begun to dive at the ground once again, using Dig in order to get beneath the surface. Back on the surface, he then started digging, pitching in the blade of the shovel with his foot—what was it with the ground being so hard to dig through at this time of the day anyways?

His Krookodile had found something while he was digging underneath the surface; because his snout had practically crashed against something that wasn’t exactly as… hard as a “Relic” item; but it was something a bit softer than hard stone. Growling as he hit something that sparkled with a blue tint, he then took it in his snout—and then cast it off to one side, shuffling about the tunnel as he continued to dig deeper into the earth. He could only guess as to how his master was faring topside… because even down here, the luck and pickings weren’t good.
Back up at the surface, Kouji had dug up a trench the size of a shallow swimming pool—but had yet to actually find anything glimmering in the ground so far. “I wonder how he’s faring…” he muttered, thinking of his Krookodile who was most likely several feet below the surface now, looking for the same marbles that he’d been finding left and right ever since. This is crazy, but it has to be done. I wonder how she’s faring right now… probably terrible. I hope I can find something good… he thought to himself as he continued digging through the area, hoping to find some semblance of a sparkling marble…

This time, it was Kouji who had found something that had made him look twice in the mound of dirt that he was digging up—and to his surprise, it was another fossil. Having read about some of the fossils that were starting to appear in the Badlands, he could tell that this was something he didn’t have yet—however, the distinct shape it bore was something… he was pretty sure he already had! “Varsi…” he muttered, grinning as he then left the fossil alone to rest—because what would he do with another fossil; if he already had the actual, living thing with him at the Ranch?
He then moved off to another place in order to try his luck, and he could only guess if his Krookodile was able to find something underground! Well, I’d know if he did because he’d just appear from underneath and then drop whatever it is he found in front of me… he thought as he ventured out a little further from the spot where he’d left the Krookodile to dig; and then started digging once again. Now that he was at the new area, he then got to digging; displacing a lot of dirt in the process. I know it’s still too early; but yeah. Better safe than sorry. Come on! Give me something good! He thought with his brow creasing as he continued to dig through the new trench he was excavating.

After Kouji had passed on the fossil, he continued to dig—not realizing that when he’d decided to pass on the fossilized version of Varsi, he was walking into a trap… that proved to be so when he felt his shovel hit something; and then the resulting cracking noise echoed off in the immediate area like a gunshot. “Oh. Oh, crap,” he said with an owlish look on his face, lifting up the shovel and looking down—to see that he had cracked something in two! “Uh-oh,” was all he had time for as he squatted down in order to look at the damage—and thankfully it was not a marble; instead he saw the prong… of a crown.
Sighing, he then shook his head and left the shattered crown behind—before stepping up and away from the place where he was digging, before heading out to another place to try his luck. Underground, the Krookodile wasn’t having that much luck either; he hadn’t found anything, not since he’d chanced upon that weird sparkling blue rock when he first hit the nether regions of the Badlands. Growling to himself, he continued to plow through the soft bedrock, tossing and shoving aside chunks, hunks and bits of dirt as he passed. He could only wonder how his master was faring back up at the surface…
He had found another spot that looked deserted enough; and could only wonder just where the Krookodile was underneath his feet. He then shelved these thoughts and got to work; shunting aside piles and piles of dirt as he continued to look for that one elusive glimmering sparkle to wink up at him from the dirt…

it was the first time in a while—most certainly not forever—that Kouji hadn’t actually managed to find anything. Normally by the third or fourth try, he’d have dug up something of the shining, shimmering, splendid kind—but this time, it was not the case. As he continued to dig down, he then came across something… that was definitely something he hadn’t encountered yet. It…was a crown. A weird, spiky, ancient-looking crown. “Huh? What’s this?” he said to himself as the thing lay half-exposed to the world after his digging had unearthed it.
“Definitely not a marble or anything…” he added, sighing as he then pulled himself up and then tried to excavate the crown without actually touching it.
After a few hits and misses, he finally managed to dig up an entire clod of dirt—where the crown was stuck to—and then looked at it quite critically. “Looks like, for the first time in a long time, I got the short end of the stick,” was all he said with a shrug, before deciding to turn the weird crown in. who knew if the shining marbles were just out there, waiting for him to find them in the dirt…! “Well, at least I know Hie can keep digging… I’m sure he won’t mind…” he muttered to himself as he then headed over to the “redemption area” in order to turn the thing in—and to continue digging once he got back.
