It was quite frustrating having to think about it.
However, no matter where Charlotte looked, no matter how hard she tried to ignore it, it was humanely impossible to unremember things of your past, if such a word did exist. Whether its existence was questionable, it did great to express her sentiments towards the feeling of remote nostalgia.
Celestic Town was a very small, compact place which shouldn’t be underestimated because it was the place where the myths of old were most alive. With the Celestic Ruins at the heart, there was a never ending stream of researchers coming to and fro with piles of machinery and data. Tourists also took this once in a lifetime opportunity to admire the wall-paintings of the legendary Pokémon responsible for creating the world.
For Charlotte Elder, however, she had become uninterested in the mural at the age of sixteen, having played there as a child a few times, and studied it for countless of teenage years. The wall inscriptions had no other information to provide her aside from reiterating all that she already knew. Her business for coming back to her hometown was something else entirely, though it was still business. The voluptuous professor had decided to sit down on a small table outside a coffee shop, while Lunatique enjoyed some of the coffee she had ordered. Charlotte had considered bringing out Banter and Hush to enjoy some fresh air, but their punishment was still valid for treating the Librabry as some kind of battlefield.
There were little to no people outside the streets, which made sense considering it was only early morning. She regarded her star shaped Pokémon as she naively drank the beverage with the biggest smile in her face and yet, here she was with her biggest conundrum yet. Charlotte sometimes envied her Pokémon. Even with all the psychic powers in the world, she could not solve the problem at hand.
Celestic town was not the most sensible place to start a business, logistically speaking of course. The breeding grounds for Elder Laboratories needed some place to start, and while the Lab’s location was fundamental to her research, it didn’t work for breeding. Mt. Coronet’s height and environment made it effective to gather data undisturbed. Weather disturbances, irregularities in the atmosphere, climate temperature were always key factors when determining paranormal occurrences on a larger scale. The Elder Laboratories’ equipment was well suited for that kind of work. When she thought about it, the holographic projector connected with the telescopes’ vision was the best idea she had ever come up with and was well proud of herself and would bask in that glory once she made use of its capabilities in the near future.
However, it was hard for trainers (of all shapes and sizes) to reach and there was not enough space nor was it the proper environment to train Pokémon. The professor had actually little to no trouble getting back and from the laboratories as she had devised quite a passage plan (which included the usage of her Pokémon and her precognition) to get there unscathed. Professor Elder had actually forgotten that not everyone was as smart or as capable as her. The only thing raining on her brilliance was the location of the breeding grounds and first thing that had popped in her mind had been her hometown.
Only Arceus knew why she thought of the forsaken town in the first place. She had had no recollection of it being a vision of her psychic powers, and yet she had received such a strong tug, reeling her soul towards this place. That time, Charlotte had considered her precognition to be quite ironic, as if it was intentionally slapping herself. It was somewhat far from Mt. Coronet, and management would be hell on eath. But she did have to admit that it had a lot of potential considering the amount of tourists that came to this place, but would it be enough?
The little pink tyke had taken so much liking to the coffee she was actually jugging the teacup and had toppled over, the remaining coffee coloring her brown. Charlotte sighed, her head resting on one hand on the table. With her free right hand, she grabbed a napkin and started to clean off the coffee on Lunatique.
“Cleffaaa!”
“Sometimes…” She reprimanded her quietly as the Cleffa could not stop giggling and wriggling as she finished up. Maybe her vision had meant something? Charlotte couldn’t help but think so, and had strong instincts that the reason her psychic powers showed her Celestic Town as a vision when she was about to make a decision where to set up the breeding grounds was for that same purpose.

It… it had been a while since he’d been away from Unova; and he was missing his second “home” terribly. Since he’d gone off to Sinnoh in order to be able to search for a few ‘mons for another fellow Breeder he was acquainted with, he then realized that he still had plenty of time to pay a visit to his mother’s home town, Celestic. He hadn’t gone around too much; and was considering skipping on visiting his maternal grandparents, but since he was already in the area, he figured, why not drop by for a few minutes? As he dropped down in front of one of the houses—well, the one that Sinnoh considered as Celestic’s “Pokémon Center” at least, he looked around and saw that the early morning fog still hadn’t lifted from the area.
Oh boy. I better hope they’re not outside, tumbling about in this mist. Walking at their age should be made illegal… he thought as he then decided to have at least the offspring of his mother’s Ghost-type out for old times’ sake, and one drop of a Pokeball later, his own Mismagius made an appearance, quickly hovering as close as she possibly could upon emerging from the flash of red light. “Miiii? Mismagius?” he heard Elizabeth inquire from him, looking at him with a very curious look on his face. “Yes… we’re home. I don’t know if your ‘mother’ is still with her parents. I guess we’re about to find out…” he trailed off, squinting into the fog. Now, where was their residence again…?
Gah, stupid, I forgot to ask my brothers where it was! He thought, smacking a palm to his forehead out of annoyance—while one of them also called Unova his home (and his own business a rival ranch) the other two were more of the travelling type. Wonder where they are right now… they haven’t dropped a line at all ever since they began wandering again after we got settled down in Unova… he continued to think to himself, passing by a café where there was only one customer… who was accompanied by a Cleffa. It was at this point he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up—was there something about the place that was letting its presence be known? Or was it because of the presence of the customer herself; one who was, from the looks of it, wiping up the spilled coffee from the Cleffa’s mouth?
Something is definitely triggering ‘that’ feeling… hmm… maybe I should ask with the grandparents about this ‘seeing the future’ thing. Maybe they know something about… he thought, suddenly deciding to take a detour and get himself some hot chocolate; the Mismagius floating right behind him. The moment he’d stepped onto the raised platform and headed for the café door, the Mismagius just happened to look at the young woman who was seated there… and then went over to her, instead of following him inside! Would he realize that his companion wasn’t with him after sometime…?
Cleffa was clean and proper now, after careful wiping from Charlotte. However, as she threw away the brown tissue paper, she knew Cleffa wouldn’t stay that way for long. It would only take a few minutes of freedom for Cleffa to get into some kind of trouble. The baby Star shaped Pokémon was just too curious for its own good. Thinking about things now, she had done a very good job raising all three of her Pokémon, two of them being Baby Pokémon, while the third one was a baby only by personality. Charlotte let herself loose in her own thoughts while playing with Cleffa to make sure she stayed put, wiggling one finger around in circles while she tried to catch it.
She could imagine the amount stress it would take to control all of the baby Pokémon, and the mess they would make… and not to mention all the breeding that needed to be done! Even with one breeding pass per week, her research already took out 80% of her time. The best course of action would be to hire someone she could trust the Elder Cradle’s services, a person who she found compatible with the business.
While lost in her thoughts, she did not notice a floating black cloth float over their way. Cleffa however, was extremely attentive to anything that might serve as entertainment other than the whirling finger that she so intently tried to catch, as she already had but it continued on moving despite latching on it. Lunatique glanced towards the Mismagius in front of her table and her eyes instantly lit up. The fairy-type Pokémon found her so beautiful and elegant; she was completely enthralled by her long dress like body. Like the reckless Pokémon she was, Lunatique let go of the Charlotte’s finger and literally threw herself on the Mismagius, landing on her ‘hat’. The Cleffa enjoyed the physical contact with other Pokémon and it was one of the ways that she made friends, whether or not the other party felt comfortable with such intimacy.
It was only a few minutes that had passed that Charlotte blinked and realized that Cleffa was gone and not playing with her anymore. The professor didn’t panic though, she merely scanned the area patiently for any unusual activity and it didn’t take quite long.
“You make friends too easily, Lunatique…” She commented while noticing that her new found “friend” was a fully evolved Pokémon, a Mismagius.
It wasn’t strange for Ghost Pokémon to be found in most urban areas, due to the strong residual emotions in abandoned places previously inhabited by human beings. They were naturally attracted by human feelings, especially those on the negative side. That was usually the case most of the time, but that assumption was merely made purely on association to the backstory of all abandoned places and deserted areas. They mostly stayed due to the happy memories remnant in those places. Now, this café would probably hold some great memories, but it wasn’t only after the inhabitants left that Ghost Pokémon took over. What, do I look like a graveyard now? She thought to herself sarcastically.
The most obvious reason for its presence was a trainer, who had apparently lost a Mismagius.
“You’re probably with a trainer, aren’t you?” She stood up and took back Cleffa who still wanted to play with her. “We should probably find whoever that is. I would not like to be accused of theft…” Now, thinking about it logically, the trainer should still be within the area, if not the Café. She surveyed the area but no one looked capable enough to own a Mismagius…

Kouji had gone on ahead and went inside the little coffee shop, where he was immediately attended to by one of the baristas behind the counter. After trying to decide just what the heck to add to his hot chocolate, he decided on an extra dash of mint and less sugar; alongside a few slices of toast buttered rather generously and served with jam. He was about to ask Beth about what she wanted to drink (because even his own ‘mons liked the occasional taste of tea every once in a while) when he realized that his companion was no longer with him! surprised, he then asked the barista he was talking with if they’d seen a Ghost-type come in with him; to which she replied that there was a Ghost-type hanging around outside; and that it was apparently playing with another ‘mon that had taken a leap right on it and had begun to flail its… rather interesting limbs while hitched astride!
“Shit, be right back,” he said with an apologetic grin on his face as he quickly pulled out some bills and slapped it atop the counter, he knew they’d take care of ringing up his purchases and get the change ready once he got his Mismagius back. As he exited the front door, he had managed to see that the pink, star shape ‘mon (actually a Cleffa which he recognized right away) was actually riding atop his Beth’s “hat-like” top! The Mismagius wasn’t even bothered with the contact of the little pink blob; in fact she did like having other ‘mons come closer to her—because unlike her partner Alex, Beth here was the more “sociable” of the two ‘mons that had started out under Kouji’s care. “Miiii, mismagius. Mi? Mi!” the Magical ‘mon intoned, levitating a bit higher, then lowering herself just enough in order to see that her master had emerged from the café with a really sheepish look on his face… and the Cleffa taken off from her head!
“Beth… there you are, I thought you went through the door with me…” he said, shifting from his concerned tone to one of silence, seeing that the little Cleffa was now apparently in someone else’s hands—an individual who had also ordered a cup of coffee and was apparently looking around for whoever owned the Ghost-type. “Hello there,” he said in the young woman’s direction; she seemed to be looking for something, but what was it? “Are… are you looking for something?” he asked a few moments later, silently signaling Beth to come join him with a rather pointed look. This, the Mismagius would pick up on, as she then floated through the air before levitating to a stop, hovering just above and behind him. “Mi?” he heard her inquire again, before looking at the Cleffa; and then promptly shifting her attention to the young woman as well; with this extremely intriguing look on his face.
What exactly was she looking for? No one her seemed to have the proper characteristics to own a Mismagius, let alone raise one all the way to the final stage of evolution. The Magical Pokémon species were very popular with those dealing in the occult, and more importantly, they were not only Powerhouses during battles, but in contests as well. There was really not many people to pick from.
As fate would have it, what she started to look for had come looking for her instead.
Charlotte raised an eyebrow as a young looking man (possibly older than her though) ran up to them as she scanned the area. Him? He had silver hair, a rather effeminate, clean face and a mundane get up. Was he really the owner of this Mismagius?
Her question needn't to wait long as he greeted her, slowing into a stride. Stopping in front of them, he proceeded to ask her a somewhat breezy question, the kind of question that didn’t really need an answer considering he had approached them first, so she really had the right to be asking first and more importantly, she had no idea who this person was.
The Mismagius seemed to know this boy, hovering towards her side as he made an attempt to signal her over to him. The Magical Pokémon seemed a bit baffled and let out a quiet inquiry to her “master”. She wasn’t convinced that this person was in fact the owner of Mismagius, but if the Pokémon had no complaints, then neither would she and would keep the thoughts to herself until proven otherwise.
Charlotte didn’t answer right away, but gave him that judging look, starting from the top of his head down to his shoes, and repeat. He didn’t seem like a bad person, perhaps just a bit boring. Taking another look at Mismagius, and then another look at the person in front of her, she decided to ignore his question and throw a question of her own.
The professor slowly walked up to him with her Cleffa cradled at hand, like a lioness stalking a pray and stopped short so that they were a only a few centimeters apart.
“It is quite rude to poke your nose in someone else’s business, without introducing yourself…” It would’ve been easier to just ask him his name, but Charlotte liked to resort to some more drastic measures so she could make judgments of people in a more accurate manner. It was in her belief, that only in the face of adversity, would people’s nature truly reflect. It was the same in all cases, even for Legendary Pokémon, who would only appear in times of great need.
Just then, Lunatique managed to dislodge herself from her arms and make a jump for their new guests. As expected of the star shaped Pokémon she didn’t manage to go far, clinging to his upper garments for dear life. The cleffa would then proceed to climb up and around his neck until she reached the top of his head.
Charlotte smiled a little, wondering how he would react?
