Now that she had officially offered the Pokeball containing the Phanpy to Josh, Izumi then began giving a brief overview of what the ‘mon’s vital stats were, so to speak. “So… for starters, she’s female. I actually asked our little Breeder friend to figure out the ability for us, since I’m not so great with telling them apart… wait let me just grab the paper where I listed it all down…” she trailed off, quickly rummaging around her pockets, looking for the scrap of paper where she’d written down the stats she needed to know. She’d already seen some of the attacks the little elephantine creature was capable of, and had listed it down too. After groping around one of her seemingly bottomless pockets, she had finally found the precious scrap of paper and then unfolded it, before giving it the once-over and then flicking it in Josh’s direction. “There, that’s the information you need,” she added with another grin on his face—if he was fast enough to catch the paper, he would see the following scribbled on it:
• Female Phanpy, acquired in Johto region; just outside of Blackthorn City • Ability, at least according to Kouji: Pickup, since he reports she’d found a Hard Rock while she was grazing out on the Ranch. • Move set: Defense Curl / Double-Edge / Take Down / Tackle
“The reason why I said she gave me a run for my money… guess you’ll find out once you read the paper I just tossed your way,” she continued with a chuckle rolling around in her voice. She was about to agree to the proposition of having the Phanpy, which had now officially changed ownership, to run free when they heard a voice, and boy did it sound tired. Okay, what’s happening now… she thought as she turned around and saw that they weren’t alone—for there was another young woman in their midst now, trying to catch her breath. She then looked edgeways at Josh before the question escaped her lips, “So… this is Maxine?” while looking at her curiously; what did she do that caused her to be all out of breath anyway?

"Hmmm...." he began as he caught and examined the paper. "Interesting. I can see why this one gave you a run for your money" he said with a laugh. He took the Pokeball and opened it, letting out the Phanphy within the fencing of the ranch. "Phanphy!" she let out and looked up at him. Josh smiled down at her and waved. "Hi!" he chirped. "I'm going to be taking care of you from now on, and this is going to be your new home" he explained as he motioned toward the large open plains around her. The Phanphy took a moment to gander at the surroundings, then at Josh, then let out a "Phanphy Phan!" in delight. The other Pokemon seemed to take notice to the newcomer and had come around to introduce themselves. Josh smiled a bit as he saw the interest.
"Let's see... Since I always nickname my Pokemon... Why don't I call you Kalina?" he asked. "Phan! Phanphy!" Kalina let out happily, seeming to like her new name once it had set in. "Now, why don't you go introduce yourself to your new friends while I talk to Izumi?" Josh asked, motioning toward the Pokemon that had come to greet Kalina. "Phanphy!" Kalina let out as she rushed off to meet new friends.
He would turn back to Izumi and smile. "Thanks a lot, Izumi. I appreciate it" he said. "You didn't have to do that, but I appreciate it all the same. I'm sure Kalina will be very happy here, and I'll be looking forward to seeing what she can do in battle when the time comes" he said.
Then something caught Izumi's attention, and Josh turned to see Maxine running toward them. "Ah, there she is!" he said, grinning. Once Maxine caught up and handed Josh the parts needed to fine-tune the bike, he smiled a bit. "Thanks Maxine, I appreciate it. I'll get these to mom as soon as I can" he said. "You're out of breath, what happened?" he asked, tilting his head.
He eyed Izumi then, and motioned toward Maxine. "Izumi, this is an old friend of mine from the Kohaku region, Maxine. My old traveling thunder buddy. I told you about her, obviously" he said then looked at Maxine. "Maxine, this is Izumi, a good friend of mine. She's been a big help to me ever since I came to Hoenn"
"Ah.. H-Happy to help out, Josh." She breathed out, picking her head up to the two. Oh, who was the girl? Now since her face was already flushed from running before, it would stay that way for a while now since she didn't know this girl. "Hm? You drive off so.. I started to run to catch up to you.. P-Please don't leave just yet, I just need to catch my breath before you two go." Maxine said, taking a couple deep breaths as she picked her body up right. What was she saying about you two going?
For a moment when he introduced the two her fingertips brushed up to her cheeks, still felt warm.. It'll be a while before she cools off. Her fingers interlocked together when she mentioned about the nickname the pair shared, thunder buddies. It was due since the two had Pichus back in Kohaku and even they got along well like their trainers. "...Nice to meet you, Izumi." She spoke quickly and fell silent again, looks like Josh and Izumi are going to have to break her shell to get her to talk some more.
Maxine moved her arms behind her back afterwards and gazed her off to the side with a nervous look on her face, damn it why didn't he mention that she was joining them? Maybe she could sneak away quietly and finish helping Serena..

So this is the girl you mentioned… she began in the back of her mind, before suddenly remembering that she didn’t possess any vestige of psychic power at all—and even if she did that would be completely and totally awkward. Izumi then gave Maxine a once-over; and then noticed she was all out of breath. “Hello there, Maxine,” she began, before breaking out into a grin and then pointing as discreetly as she could manage in Josh’s general direction. “You can blame him,” she continued with a chuckle, before bursting into something that looked like a very wicked grin.
“He decided to take me out on a test run on his tricked-out motorbike, and we went so fast, that was probably me you could hear screeching all manner of profanities that I could toss his way—and he was just laughing his head off at me, because he’d managed to scare the underwear off me,” she went on, the wicked-looking smirk mellowing down to something that resembled an evil grin at that point in time.
“Wait until you see the fun part about what his motorbike can do. Though I guess you already have, or then again, maybe not…” she ended with another chuckle, before taking a few steps back and leaning near a tree; watching the Phanpy she’d given Josh run around like crazy within the confines of the Dragomir Ranch, trying to ram down the protective fence. Thankfully it was crazy durable; otherwise they’d have another problem on their hands at that point in time!

"Oh!" Josh said, sighing. "Shit, sorry" he said, scratching his head. "That was my bad. I didn't see you, so I figured you were still out. We'd been wondering where you'd gone, so I thought I'd show Izumi how this works while we waited for you"
Oh course, Josh had told Maxine that Izumi was coming. He'd hoped to introduce them since he had found out Maxine was alive. He'd told Izumi about her, obviously... I mean, he'd already told Izumi the whole story about him thinking Maxine was dead prior to him finding out that Maxine was indeed alive and well. He remembered the scare that Josh's mother had dealt with when Maxine showed up on their doorstep. The poor woman had gone completely pale, like she'd literally seen a ghost. Close enough.
He noted that Maxine seemed shy again. He remembered she was in a shell when it came to newcomers... Figures. Blast it, figures it wouldn't be that easy.
"Pika!" Lightning greeted as he got back onto Josh's shoulder, waving to Maxine. He laughed a bit when Izumi complained about the bike. "Yeah, she had a hell of a time on the bike... When you get your bearings, we can take another test run if you like, Maxine. I don't mind" he said, smiling.
Sorry, yeah right, of course you didn't see her.. She exhaled and nodded back after his apology, seeming to forgive him. Of course she didn't like to hear the story, "It's alright.." Maxine took a breath in and let it out slowly, "I was just hoping you didn't go any further or I would more than likely blacked out back there." Her legs were beginning to regain their feeling after her long sprint to the two and slid her feet together.
He never mentioned Izumi to her at all.. Guess he was pulling surprises out his sleeve again, only nodding her head to Josh. "Mhmm.." Seeing Lightning jump onto his shoulder caused her to show a tiny smile and wave back to the Pikachu, at least there's someone she knows to talk a little.
Hearing her go off on the bike made Maxine's eyes lower slowly and whispered to herself, "I didn't mind the bike.." With him mentioning that they could go for a second test run she stuttered out a reply, 'A-Ah, on second thought you two can continue using the bike, I can always walk." Oh boy, looks like she's being shy and stubborn once again. Her fingers clinched onto her lab coat sleeve when her arms relaxed behind her back.

“Oh. Oh no, I insist. Josh already initiated me on the crazy motorbike. Trust me. You’re going to like the ride,” Izumi began, an extremely sheepish look all over her face as she held up her arms at that point. Now that Lightning had come out of his containment unit, it seemed to lighten the mood a little—but she was still reserved around her! “Well… no, really, Maxine… uhhh, Max. is it okay if I call you Max?” she asked the other female; hoping that it would be okay with her! “Trust us on this. You’re going to like the motorbike. I think I made Josh deaf in one ear for a while back there when he took me out on a test ride,” she continued with another sheepish look on her face.
Wondering if the presence of another Pokémon would help lighten the mood, she then decided to send out someone who might hopefully make her feel more at ease! Unfortunately I don’t have a Pikachu yet; but I hope this works… she thought as she then plucked a Moon Ball and then sent out its occupant in a flash of red light; revealing the loopy, hyper, Emanation ‘mon with a spike of tufted hair. He looked like a friendly little bipedal jackal; and she then watched as the Riolu then stared, its eyes screwed up in concentration—as he looked over at the very nervous-looking Maxine. “Uhhh… this is Vince, my Riolu. Also, he’s wondering why you’re all uptight, Max…ine. I don’t bite,” she continued in a kinder tone; while the Riolu continued to look at her curiously; before deciding that she wasn’t one to be afraid of.
Izumi then watched with a bit of a grin on her face as the Riolu then trotted forward, before coming to a stop right in front of the short-haired young woman and then waved up at her, before going into a bow. “See? He likes you,” she continued, watching the little scene unfold.

Post by Josh Dragomir on Oct 26, 2014 14:07:22 GMT -5
Josh laughed a bit to their back and fourth. Strange though, he remembered telling Maxine all about Izumi. About how he'd met her on a mission near Lavaridge, how she'd been a big help with him learning the ropes in Hoenn, getting him connected to a Breeder to help him breed certain Pokemon, how she was an experienced Trainer that had even tried to challenge a Gym Leader and all! Of course, Josh HAD mentioned that Izumi had gotten whooped by Roxanne. Badly, as she'd told him.
"Don't you have a Pichu, Izumi?" Josh asked, tilting his head when she mentioned she didn't have a Pikachu. "I'm sure that fits just as well" he said as she sent out her Riolu. "Hey Vincent" he said, chuckling. He remembered Vincent from when he'd battled it before.
"Pika!" Lightning greeted to Vincent, and Josh smiled a bit. Of course, then his face fell.
"Aye... Izumi, remember what we talked about before you came over here?" he asked, scratching his head. "I think now's a good time to talk about what you said about Lightning" he said, breathing out a bit. "Pi?" Lightning chirped, tilting his head curiously. Josh looked over at Maxine, deciding to explain.
"You see, Maxine... I told Izumi about how Lightning had gotten his full moveset and had reached his full potential, and probably can't go any higher. Izumi suggested that... Well, I get him to evolve. But he's been a Pikachu for so long, that I'm... Yknow, I'm not sure if he even wants to. I'm conflicted too. It's going to be an odd change" he admitted.
"I figured it would be best if I let the two people who know him as well as I do talk to him. Izumi had come here today to have a heart to heart with Lightning about this, but... You know him just as well. He might benefit from advice from you as well" he said quietly. "It's a big decision"
She couldn't help, but feel out of place around the girl. This was someone who Josh knew and from her appearance she had experience with traveling, sure he can get more done with her instead of the short haired girl. Maxine slid her head up to rub the back of her now burning neck, well this atmosphere was beginning to tense up around the three. Guess she should make her leave about now?
Before she could Izumi spoke up and nodded to the nickname, "Max is fine." She answered, her eyes picking up on the Moon ball she revealed to the group and released a Pokémon. After letting them out it was a Riolu, starting to slide her foot back to its observations of the female. "Vince.. Aye.." Not appreciating the common 'I don't bite' comment to her she cleared her throat afterwards. Once Vince waved up to her she gave a small wave in return.
Oh, this was going to be about Lightning evolving..? Glad he left out more information to her, great job Josh. Maxine nodded her head to the blonde and listened as he continued on with his explanation. She couldn't see how she could influence his decision on becoming a Raichu, and spoke up, "I-I'm willing to talk to him, Josh.."

As the Riolu continued to examine Max with much interest, the topic of conversation finally got to the main idea as to why she’d been brought out here in the first place. “Err. I can try to communicate with Lightning via Vince, that’s why I brought him out. Although, he still needs a bit’a fine-tuning himself with reading auras, so this can be good practice for him,” she said by way of explanation—before she herself looked at Lightning with much interest. “I know that you’re attached to Lightning in his current form, Josh… but sometimes, when the need is dire—or you’re in danger just like what happened with Inferno over there… they just, well, evolve,” she continued, remembering the story that he’d told her sometime ago; about Josh running into a crazy band of Doduo and Dodrio—and that particular battle had very nearly cost him (and Inferno, at that time) his own life.
“Shall we get started then?” she asked, before whistling—a cue that Vincent was to come over. After examining the short brown-haired woman with much intensity, he then trotted over to where Izumi was now crouching, before giving him a chin tickle. “Yes, Vincent. Can you talk with the Pikachu over there? I know you can understand them via your aura—and yes, I know you’re not that good with it yet, but hey, think of this as practice for when you’re all-grown up…” she trailed off, before quickly heading over to where the yellow Lightning Mouse was, currently perched on his master’s shoulder and then looking up at the Pikachu, as if trying to gauge what he was feeling at the moment. I know they can talk, shame we can’t understand what they’re saying… at least Vince is our chance of understanding what Lightning is saying. I hope… she thought as the Riolu started flailing, trying to catch the Pika’s attention.

WORDS 318 TAGSJosh Dragomir & @rushkid NOTESTime to "communicate" with Pika
Post by Josh Dragomir on Oct 31, 2014 21:39:37 GMT -5
Of course, off-screen, Josh had told Maxine everything. He wouldn't be such a dick as to leave her out of the loop, especially when he knew she was shy with strangers. But she probably forgot, who knows. Regardless, they had something to talk out here.
Josh nodded toward Izumi as he watched her Riolu try to communicate with Lightning. He sighed at her words. "Aye... I am a bit attached to his current form. And I feel like he is too. I just want what's best for him, really" he revealed. "He's been my partner as a Pikachu for so long, it feels weird evolving him. But in the end, it should be whatever he wants" he said. "Not what I want... What he wants"
"Pika, pika pika Pikachu" Lightning spoke to the Riolu. He seemed to be conveying to the Riolu that he was honestly unsure. While Josh was right about him being attached to his current form, he knew that he would be stronger as a Raichu. He was conflicted, and didn't know what to do. He was scared to change, he said. But knew he could be a better partner for his Trainer if he evolved. He wanted to be stronger, but didn't know if he was ready to change.
Josh looked over at Maxine and nodded. "Whatever you can talk to him with on this, I thank you..." he said quietly, nervously... His confidence was down, they could tell. It was obviously a sensitive subject to him... "He trusts you. It's why I asked you. He'll trust your advice and whatever opinion you can give. Just... Tell him what you think, I guess, and let him choose himself from there" he said.
Hopefully Maxine wouldn't be put off from the Riolu talking to Lightning... It wasn't like she could step in and talk to him as well just because one party was speaking to him, especially since Riolu can't really talk either.
He never told her off screen either, Maxine really felt out of place near the two veterans before her. Trust me, she wouldn't forget about this if he told her.. Might as well get it out of the way then for the poor girl.
Watching her Pokemon communicate to Lightning caused her to shuffle her feet a little from the two before meeting the blondes eyes and listening to his request to speak to his Pikachu about the situation at hand. Josh didn't sound like himself he sounded.. scared, and apprehensive to the change. Her gloved palm rested on the male's shoulder and gave him a small nod, along with giving it a squeeze to reassure him.
Maxine headed in the direction of where Lightning sat and kneeled down to his level, slowly rubbing behind his ear. "..Lightning, you know you've grown from the last time we've met and I'm very proud of you for that.." She exhale, continuing on, "You've reached a great amount of stats and received a good moveset..." She bit her lip, not sure of how to watch the wording in this next sentence. "It.. It would b-be a great thing to see you e-evolve and get stronger.." She breathed out.
Post by Izumi Yamamura on Dec 4, 2014 8:45:02 GMT -5
As for Izumi, she then decided to first watch Max interact with Lightning—even if she didn’t know if Pokémon could understand the same language that humans spoke, she could definitely tell that their companion was trying her best to reach out to the Lightning Mouse; and once she was done, she knew that it was “her” turn; technically, her turn per se—but only because Vincent was going to be doing all the talking. At his current level of power, she knew that Vincent could communicate with most other ‘mons, but still had some difficulty talking with humans. They were working on getting around that, though; one step at a time. Now that the Riolu had sat himself down in front of the Pika, they then began conversing in their own unique Pokémon language—even if it just came off as their normal cries to the ears of all humans present. Vincent was going over the advantages and disadvantages of having a bigger, better form—even though it meant that Lightning could no longer ride astride Josh’s shoulder (as was the norm) at least he could be much, much stronger and be more able to defend him from harm.
He’d also thrown in a lot of words about love, and all the affection that he’d had. He also let Lightning know that he was aware of the various happenings—since Izumi and Vincent were trying to communicate with each other, she was telling him all manner of stories that she knew and she’d heard from him as practice on understanding what she was saying—and ended the entire conversation with, “It’s completely and entirely up to you. Whether you want to evolve or not, the choice is yours. I know I still have a long way to go before I reach my final form, but it’s a very long road ahead of me. You, on the other hand, have traversed that road so many times—don’t you wish you could explore more opportunities when you evolve?” before finally trotting back over and hopping once again on Izumi’s shoulder, feeling all pleased of himself. As she then felt the light weight of the Riolu land on her right shoulder, she then cracked a grin in Josh’s direction, before acknowledging him, “Well, it’s all up to you now, Josh. Have a talk with Lightning now, see if he’s ready to take on the world as a Raichu.”

WORDS 406 TAGSJosh Dragomir & @rushkid NOTESYou guys can kill me. Extremely sorry for late reply.
Post by Josh Dragomir on Dec 4, 2014 14:46:07 GMT -5
Josh smiled a bit as he stayed back and let Izumi (Through Vincent) and Maxine talk to Lightning. He knew they were both important to him. Lightning had traveled with Josh and Maxine for a very long time way back when, he trusted Maxine. He trusted her judgement. As did Josh. He knew that Lightning would take into consideration anything his old friend had to say, and that was why he had asked Maxine to help with this.
Izumi... She didn't pay too much attention to Lightning at first, he thought. He was just sort of there on his shoulder while Izumi fawned over Inferno, her old Cyndaquil, now Josh's Typhlosion. But over time, Izumi had taken to taking a moment everytime they met to give Lightning some attention, scratching his ears, commenting on his well being, and anything else. Lightning had grown to trust Izumi as well.
The Pikachu seemed conflicted, but was listening intently to the advice of both. They both made great points... He wanted to evolve, but at the same time, he didn't. He was scared to. Scared of change.
Josh sighed as Izumi addressed him. It was time, he decided.
"Lightning..." Josh said quietly as he walked over to his partner. He sat on his knees to be eye level with his Pikachu. "Pi?" Lightning responded, looking up at Josh and tilting his head. He sighed and took something out of his pocket. It was a Thunderstone... He'd found it awhile back and had been saving it just in case.
"You see this?" he asked. "This is a Thunder Stone... I found it quite some time ago, but kept it just in case you wanted to evolve. I've held onto it.. And I've thought about having you evolve many a time, even if I'm as scared as you are" he revealed. "But... This is your choice, not mine" he said as he reached over, putting a hand on Lightning's bandana. "Pi?" Lightning responded, blinking. What was his Trainer doing.
Josh sighed as he began tying the Thunder Stone into a pocket in the bandana, keeping it from touching Lightning, but making sure it wouldn't fall out. "I'm leaving the choice to you" he said as he would pat Lightning on the head before getting to his feet. "In the end... If you evolve... When and where.. I'm letting that be your decision" he revealed. "Pika?" Lightning let out, astonished. His Trainer was really putting all this trust in him? Josh nodded a bit. "Aye... When you feel it's time, just undo the bandana. Take the Thunderstone, and do what you have to do..." He said, smiling a bit. "Pika..." Lightning responded quietly, obviously touched by the gesture. "Pika-Pikachu!" Lightning chirped before he would climb onto his Trainer's shoulder. Josh would laugh a bit before turning to Izumi and Maxine.
"Thank you. Both of you" he said, giving a grateful bow. "It means a lot to me that you two did that. I think we both have a clearer view on what needs to be done now" he said, giving a smile.
"Regardless... Maxine, we prepared a gift for you" He said as he would take out a bag he'd been hiding. "Izumi actually sent it over not too long ago, but I wanted us to all be together before we gave you it" he said as he would hand her the bag. Inside were two Pokeballs. "Treasure them. Consider it a gift from the both of us, and good tidings for the future" he said. "I know we talked to Doug already about forming a little training group to benefit all four of us... But one of the reasons I wanted you guys to meet is because Izumi will be involved with this too" he said with a small smile. "We all want to get stronger, for our own reasons. We all want to bond with our Pokemon. Doing that together is far better then doing that alone" he explained. "I hope you two will get along. Izumi's a great Trainer, and very knowledgeable. I think picking her brain could really benefit you" he said, grinning.
