It was the September digging season, which meant only one thing: it was time to head back to the Badlands! After traveling around with the team she currently carried, she knew that she was going to have to resort to manual labor for a while—at least until someone with her showed promise. There was also something odd—the temperature readings around the Kalos region had decided to skyrocket, which meant that digging conditions in the Badlands were going to be a test of endurance! “Oh crud, did the heat wave really have to strike now…” she grumbled to herself as she prepared the things she’d be bringing along—several sandwiches crammed into her backpack, along with several water bottles and some extra change of clothing should the heat prove to be really unbearable. “Oh, right, got to bring along the sun block as well,” she muttered, absentmindedly tossing a bottle of the stuff into the backpack too; before checking that her shovel, working gloves and the little carrying case that contained all the shining marbles were secured to the work belt around her waist. “Off to the Badlands for me then…”
After several minutes of walking under the intense Kalosian heat, it became apparent that she would be having to apply the sun block much earlier than usual, so she stopped for a few moments against a lamp post and unearthed the bottle, slapping on the sticky lotion all over her arms and legs as she headed towards the exit leading to the Badlands—and the power plant. “Alright, fight fire with fire,” she said to herself, slapping on more sun block over her face; before finally pulling out a pair of trusty shades and a cap, and hiding most of her hair underneath it. as always, when she arrived to the path leading up to the dig site, there were a lot of people falling in line as well—and she could see that most of them had umbrellas and shades on as well! “Heh, looks like the heat’s getting to everyone…” she muttered as she clipped the bottle of sun block to her working belt, and then carried the shovel, shuffling forward as the crowd slowly thinned out and was allowed entry into the Badlands.
After what felt like an eternity—but it was only fifteen minutes or so—she was finally up at the front, and the people over at the guard station were giving away free bottles of ice-cold water to everyone who had already gone in. “Gah, thanks,” she said, reaching for one of the bottles, as the guard on duty checked her things and then gave her a green light to go through. Scooping up her shovel and backpack, she then busied herself with the bottle of water and entered into the Badlands—seeing that there were several dig sites pitched with umbrellas; because the heat was definitely going to be a scorcher for today. “Bleh, this is horrible,” she muttered, squinting into the “heat haze” that hung all around, before marching off and looking for a nice spot that wasn’t too exposed to the sun. After another fifteen minutes of circling the site, she found an area that was somewhat windy; at least the heat was bearable—for now. Setting her backpack down, she guzzled down the contents of the bottle of water, before sticking her shovel into the dirt, and starting to dig up everything she could get her shovel on.

Due to the heat haze, Izumi had no idea if time was going slower or quicker at this point. All she knew that her arms were starting to feel sore, then slowly progressing towards numb—because of the motions she did whenever she tossed a shovelful of dirt over her shoulder. Nobody in her current team could dig, so she was doing this alone—it was only when she heard a cracking noise that went off like a gunshot she was shaken out of the lull her mind (and field of vision) had sunk into. “Oh. Oh, crap…” she trailed off, shaking her head and looking down at the thing she’d hit with her shovel—it was another one of the crown-like objects that were littering the area. “Shit,” was what she said next, before hastily walking over to the pile of dirt she’d dug up so far—and was alarmed to see that she’d actually gone and sunk into an old habit of hers—digging and excavating a space the size of a manhole. “Whoops,” she muttered, quickly kicking dirt over the broken crown, the better to hide the evidence!
Once she had covered up the “evidence”, she then wiped her forehead with the towel she’d dug up from one of the pockets of her shorts, before walking over and then digging through the contents of her bag; and extracting one of the water bottles. She then opened it and then guzzled down the contents, the better to cool off, before picking up her open backpack, zipping it, and grabbing the shovel with her other hand as she decided to go to another area in order to try digging there. As she walked by other people who were also clearly having problems with the “heat haze” that hung in the air, she then sorely wished that at least, a wind would blow to cool them down somewhat—she was still looking for a place to continue her search. After walking through the entire site one, then twice (and even refilling her water bottle over at the guard’s station while she was at it) she then saw that here was another place where she could try her luck! “Alright, let’s go,” she muttered, before setting her backpack down and then sticking the shovel into the dirt, wedging her foot atop the shovel in order for the thing to break through the hard ground, and began digging in this new area…

Izumi knew that her luck was fluctuating from dig to dig—sometimes she got gold on the very first try; other times it took her until the fourth try before she actually found something. Today was one of the days that fell under the “well I didn’t get anything on the first try but hey, look, treasure” days—because there was a marble that sparkled and glittered as she was just about ready to toss the shovelful of dirt aside! She then whistled as she caught sight of the color scheme… and then noticed that it was of another one that she already had—but it was a potential “bargaining chip” if in case she came across someone who had a stone she wanted and had extras to trade away for it! “Alright, note to self: don’t toss dirt away too quickly. Things tend to go out of hand,” she muttered to herself as she then gently dropped the shovelful of dirt, and then brushed it aside before plucking the shining, shimmering splendid marble out of the dirt.
“Heh, you’re mine. At least… Erya can use you, once I get the freaking knowledge…” she muttered darkly to herself, before polishing it off with the hem of her shirt before watching the sunlight glitter and bounce off the surface of the reddish-yellow colored marble. After examining it for a few more moments, she then reached for the carrying case, and then unzipped it, before quickly dropping it inside—she could fix the positioning later; right now she had to get out of the area because the temperature was picking up; and there was no way in hell she was going to become a sunburned little girl! Hell, why does it have to be so freaking hot today… of all days… she trailed off as she then pocketed the carrying case and picked up her supplies, before getting out of the Badlands for now. She needed a cold shower, and a nap—something she was going to get to once she got out of the scorching heat!
