APPEARANCE
While Jeremiah is no Prince Charming as far as his looks are concerned, he still manages to at least come across as relatively attractive. Even though Jeremiah is legitimately homeless and doesn’t have a penny to his name, the young man has been able to convince his friends and their families to allow him to at least come over long enough to gorge himself on food and clean himself up. Granted even if he wasn’t allowed to come inside, he would resort to going to the local Pokémon Center or sneaking into an empty home in order to get a needed shower. Despite his odd means to just get clean, it has worked thus far.
As for his clothes, though, Jeremiah hasn’t been as lucky. When not able to mooch off his friends and use their laundry machines, he’s had to resort to several different means to just get them cleaned. Although, Jeremiah’s clothes are usually the worn and torn clothes many people would have been compelled to throw away by the sight of the third hole. Making make-shift outfits out of stolen clothing and clothes purchased from thrift shops, or taken from shelters, Jeremiah’s style is hardly stylish by any means. Constantly changing and rearranging his wardrobe, rarely ever wearing the same thing twice ( since he usually wears one outfit up until he finds clothes in better condition ) the only thing to really stay consistent on the muscular young man is an eye patch over his right ( our left ) eye.
The source of many jokes, Jeremiah’s eye patch isn’t worn out of some sort of gag, but more so necessity. At least, he’d consider it a necessity. Underneath the black cloth, Jeremiah’s skin has become practically leather with the many scars from burns and scratches. His eye lid has been carefully sewn shut and caved in slightly due to no longer having the actual eye. The scars and damage to the right side of his face tended to invite unwelcomed attention in the means of concerned onlookers, curious friends, and the like. After being questioned enough times, and coming up with all sorts of stories to explain his wound, Jeremiah resorted to his eye patch. Now, it’s almost unheard of to see him not wearing it.
Along with his eye patch, Jeremiah’s face in general usually ends up shrouded by a curtain of his rusty red hair. Long enough to reach his shoulders, even his bangs hang rather low on Jeremiah’s face, nearly covering his mouth. Rarely having the means of getting it professionally cut, Jeremiah tends to either cut the messy locks himself, or convincing a trusted friend of his with a pair of scissors. Seeing the dark red hair would also explain why, despite being outside so often, Jeremiah Burton is never darker than a healthy peach. His skin has many other scars as well, and with his life style, one might expect him to have some sort of tattoo or piercing. Free of tattoos, the only one set of piercings Jeremiah really has is a silver hoop on each ear.

PERSONALITY
Jeremiah is a self-proclaimed lady killer. He may be able to support this title for a few minutes, but it doesn't take long to realize 'killer' is referring to Jeremiah's amazing ability to kill the mood. While he has his moments of being that little prince charming dream-come-true kind of guy, he has a serious issue with saying too much some times. With an overall failure to really get the hint, unless bluntly told 'I'm not interested', Jerry desperately tries to get the target of his affection to at least give him the time of day. Even if this means to resorting to some rather creepy or odd methods, Jerry fails to understand that the way he may go about trying to woo the ladies only scares them off even faster.
It's not like Jeremiah is really the type of person to get obsessed or become some sort of dangerous stalker. Honestly the reasons behind his questionable means to try and get to know a girl are purely a result of Jeremiah’s own idiocy. When it comes to people, Jeremiah is, quite frankly, horrible. He either pisses them off, or freaks them out. He only means well and understands that not everyone will really be into him ( despite him occasionally announcing that everybody loves him ). He'll still be sad to be shot down, but he would at least understand. Heartbreaks and sorrow are nothing new to Jeremiah, so he wouldn’t be forever lost in the abyss of sorrow after another rejection. He is the kind of guy who just likes to have a good time and forget his troubles. He doesn't get hung up on things for long. After getting shot down, and a temporary down time, Jeremiah blows off all his troubles through various ways. Drinking, partying, eating, fighting, and so on, he has many ways to vent without an ounce in shame in his ways.
That one guy you can always call for a good time, Jerry is a bit of a party animal. Unfortunately for his more goody-goody friends, he has no qualms with trying to drag them into some of his more questionable shenanigans. He pretty much tries to do whatever he wants, and shows no regard for most authority. There are very few people in this world that Jeremiah actually will listen to, and none of them include officers of the law, or official figures. This lack of respect for authority can lead to a mish mash of amusing and frustrating situations for not only the police but the unfortunate bunch stuck with Jeremiah at the time. Said unfortunate bunch almost always including his best friend and closest thing to family Jeremiah has left besides his cousin, Lucas Courtwater.
At the current point in his life, there is no one Jeremiah is closer to than Lucas who is practically his brother as far as he’s concerned. Sure Jeremiah has a horrible temper at times. There are days where he simply doesn’t give a rip about the world and what it thinks of him. Then there are just those days where Jeremiah just can’t keep his mouth shut. Getting into arguments, throwing insults back and forth, and almost just maintaining a level of childish bickering is usually how Jeremiah’s spats go. When it comes to messing with Lucas, though, Jeremiah is a guard dog from Hell itself. While he won’t intervene with some light teasing and even jumps in to poke fun at his friend, the moment lines start getting crossed Jeremiah has no qualms with going to violent measures for his friend.
With violence, fighting in general, Jeremiah has a whole other side to his goofy personality. While he’s typically all fun and no work, he does take the time to make sure he can defend himself and run if ever needed. Mostly due to being on his own for so long and living mostly on the streets, Jeremiah has made a habit out of seeking random fights from either Pokémon or random guys stumbling out of the bar. While his methods are questionable, he keeps himself on his feet and shows that he has no hesitation to fight dirty. People usually fight out of rage, or sport, but there have been many occasions in which Jeremiah has had to fight for his life. Fighting isn’t just a game to him, and neither is being able to flee the scene at a moment’s notice. He’s even practiced taking off while giving himself some sort of disadvantage. Handcuffed? Got it. Baggage? Sure. Lucas Courtwater unconscious after his first time getting shit faced and the cops showed up? Nailed it.

HISTORY
Jeremiah Burton was born, but as for the proud parents, or what happened to them, he has no idea. He’d been told his mother died giving birth to him, but then he was also told she just abandoned him. His father either died before he was born, or took off the moment he realized Jeremiah’s mother was pregnant. Whatever happened to them, Jeremiah never cared enough to bother attempting to separate fact from fiction. He had nothing more than a couple of names, no memories, no desire to meet them, and no prior connection with them, and so their stories have been lost in the sands of time. They could be dead, they could be alive, and he didn’t care. He had all he needed for most of his childhood from his grandfather and that was enough for him.
For most of his childhood, Jeremiah recalls fondly the times he spent with his grandfather. The old man, father of his father, and person Jeremiah was actually named after, had raised Jeremiah after the disappearance of his parents. Rather than some simple old house on a hill, or in retirement city, Old Man Burton was a traveler. Taking little Jerry from city to city, forest to forest, ocean to ocean, he went everywhere he could possibly go with a small child in tow. Jerry can still remember the chill of the snow in Sinnoh, the hot sunny beaches of Sevii Islands. The two travelled around almost all of the Northern Hemisphere from Kanto to Orre. Before they could move on south towards Hoenn and Unova, though, it seemed like age was catching up with Jeremiah’s grandfather. Burton was old, and travelling required his body to do many things, and many of those things he couldn’t do anymore.
After a short trip through Orre, it was time for the old man to finally settle down for the rest of his retirement. Jerry, the hyperactive, curious, and adventurous lad that he was, wasn’t ready to call it quits so early, though. On the journey back to Kanto where the rest of the Burton family was, it was growing steadily apparent that Old Man Burton was not going to be able to keep up with little Jeremiah as much as he had once been able to. After a longer than expected detour in Johto, the Burtons finally reached Saffron City. Once there, the old man spoke to his last remaining child, Jeremiah’s uncle, Jared Burton. Following a long week of sorting things out, Jeremiah was forced to move in with his uncle Jared and cousin Dorothy. Distraught by the apparent abandonment at first, it wouldn’t be until he was older that he would understand his grandfather’s reasoning for leaving him.
Settling in his new home, Jeremiah was quick to figure out many things about his strange uncle. Jared Burton, on the surface, seemed just like a harmless, anxious, and enthusiastic man. Originally a Professor associated with the Pokémon League, after many strange ideas, questionable methods, and an overall failure to communicate with his peers, Uncle Jared had his title revoked. You see, Mr. Burton had always been infatuated with the studies of psychics and psychic Pokémon, partially thanks to his family’s infamous line of psychics. Granted none ever reached the prowess of the ever famous Sabrina, it was still enough to have Jared Burton fascinated. He also specialized in the use of psychic Pokémon as well, with his most successful and powerful being a male Gardevoir almost always seen by his side. While Jared himself never inherited psychic abilities, it was apparent that his daughter and even Jeremiah showed signs of having abilities.
There was nothing extreme about Jeremiah’s case. He was able to sense a ‘disturbance in the force’ as he described it when he was younger. As his uncle would work with experiments and even often had his daughter and nephew participate in them, Jeremiah would experience strange uncomfortable sensations as Psychic and Ghost Pokémon became active. Jerry over the years, Jeremiah would work his abilities up to a more refined point. Like a sixth sense, he would get a tingling sensation down his spine near those types of Pokémon, a faster sense for danger, or could easily pick up when someone was nearby or watching him. In other words, Jeremiah’s fight or flight and paranoia instincts were simply increased a few notches. Jeremiah’s cousin also appeared to have these abilities to a slightly stronger degree but without bothering to pay attention, Jeremiah could never really remember what it was Dorothy could do.
It was around the time of beginning to live with his uncle that Jeremiah would meet his best friend, Lucas Courtwater. From almost two completely different worlds, the pretty rich boy Lucas and the rough and rowdy Jeremiah almost seemed like a pair that would grow to hate each other. Luckily enough, the two boys had just enough in common that they could get over some of their clashing traits. Lucas was usually a very well behaved kid, and Jeremiah was the one to usually suggest the plans of stealing cookies from the cookie jar. Needless to say when Lucas’s mother caught the two in the act, and Jeremiah’s ingenious plan was to shove all the cookies in his mouth and then ask if she still wanted them almost didn’t bode over well. It was only by some convoluted scheme Mrs. Regina Courtwater came up with that placed Jeremiah as Lucas’s guard mutt that spared the young Jeremiah Burton from an early grave.
Stealing cookies wasn’t his only crime, though. Young as he was, and with so many years of being allowed to express himself freely, doing whatever he wanted, Jeremiah struggled with adjusting to the life his uncle lived. He was expected to be well-mannered and quiet, rather than shoving his face in his food and laughing as loud as possible at cartoons. He had a habit for accidentally breaking stuff, and climbing all over the furniture. He was a little ball of energy that never seemed to lose its charge, much to his uncle’s irritation. One had to understand a simple thing about Uncle Jared. Uncle Jared was the kind of man who preferred a very quiet and controlled work environment. Dorothy knew this and would try to keep her cousin under control but was from time to time dragged into the chaos. They were often lectured, Jeremiah getting in trouble quite often to the point he’d heard so many lectures he could almost start reciting the lines with his uncle. Which he did when he was feeling particularly snarky on several occasions, but a swift slap across the face tended to be the cure to his running mouth.
Life continued on like this for a while, Jeremiah causing trouble and havoc at home or school, and his uncle having to deal with the aftermath. The only time he seemed to finally calm down and behave were the times the Burton family would make their regular trips to visit Grandfather Burton. The old man and Jeremiah would always talk about places they’d go, people they’d see, the things they’d do. Unfortunately for Jerry, his grandfather never had plans to go to these places with him. Unaware of his grandfather’s old age truly catching up with him, Jeremiah lived in a bubble of ignorant bliss until one of the days the plans to visit Grandfather Burton changed rapidly. Something had gone wrong, very wrong, but young Jerry wouldn’t know about that for many years to come.
The day his grandfather died was the day Uncle Jared finally lost it. Shortly after the phone call to tell Jared of his father’s time coming, Jeremiah busted out onto the scene with his usual excitement of finally going to see his dear grandfather. Jared, even in his nervous and depressed state, tried to calm Jeremiah down to pass along the news, but during Jeremiah’s antics the young boy accidentally broke some expensive equipment. After the news of his father's death, the expense of the equipment, and the realization of having no means of affording the continuation of his research with his father's funds being locked down for Jeremiah and Dorothy when they turned eighteen, Jared Burton cracked under pressure.
Leaving his daughter to clean up the mess Jeremiah has created, Jared roughly dragged Jeremiah to the small living room. A fire has been started in the small old fashioned fire place of the house that early winter morning. While trying to control himself, Jared was poking and prodding at it as Jeremiah was forced to sit and stay under the impression that if he would stay still for long enough, he could go visit his grandfather. Poking and prodding at the fire for most of the time with a fire poker, Jared Burton calmly spoke to Jeremiah in the meantime. Asking questions about the boy's psychic development thus far and just little things like that. After almost an hour of the tense, yet calm, interrogation, Jared turned to his nephew with the fire poker in hand, the tip of glowing orange and red from constant contact with the flames. He asked Jeremiah if the young boy would like to help him with an experiment in which the unnerved boy gave a hesitant “sure” in response.
With the agreement, Jared lost all control. He swiftly held down Jeremiah and explained some theory about humans unlocking their true potentials in life or death situations. The last thing Jeremiah recalls seeing from his right eye is the beautiful glow of heated metal coming closer and closer to his eye before... It was gone. The world to his right was taken away forever, and Jeremiah ended up passing out in response to the excruciating pain and shock. When he would come to later on, he would find himself in a hospital room full of strange adults he'd never seen before. They asked him questions about how he felt, what had happened, and so on and so forth, but Jeremiah was absolutely silent. He never spoke a word, even when his best friend's mother came by to demand some explanation for what was happening. Before anyone could really have a say in the matter, Jeremiah and Dorothy were removed from his uncle's custody, and his uncle was taken to receive help for his unstable state. As for his Pokémon some may say Dorothy took them into her care, but Jeremiah didn’t go near a single one of them ever again.
While his cousin was given a clean bill of health and allowed to continue her life in Saffron City, adopted by one of the many wealthy families there, Jeremiah was moved elsewhere. Taken from the city and moved to rural locations, for many years, the young boy went from foster home to foster home; rarely daring to even utter a word to the child psychiatrist he'd been taken to over time. As tales of Pokemon trainers from around the world doing incredible things began to spread like wild fire, Jeremiah finally broke his streak of silence to announce his desire to become a trainer as well. When telling his foster father at the time about his ambitions, there was clear hesitation in letting the boy go off on his own after his history. While a silent child, Jeremiah had also been growing relatively violent and lashing out at other foster children or tearing apart his room in vents of rage. After seeing him getting along well with some of the Pokemon his foster father owned, though, Jeremiah was finally given a Pokemon and permission to pursue his dream of becoming a trainer.
Unfortunately, Jeremiah's dream to become a trainer was nothing more than a ruse to get out of the system. Selling his gifted Pokemon to someone who was actually pursuing the dream of becoming a trainer, Jeremiah started his travels by himself. Hitching rides from other travelers and resorting to illegal means to get by, the beginning of his adventures was rough at best. Nothing compared to the times he had traveled with his grandfather, and as years of learning and failure went by, Jeremiah had finally managed to make it back to Saffron City. At the young age of fifteen, Jeremiah's main reason for returning to the city of sin was nothing more than a desire to see his grandfather again. Days went by with Jeremiah going from home to home in search of his grandfather, Jeremiah Burton. It was almost after a week of searching that he would finally find the place his grandfather had stayed in. Upon questioning the workers of the retirement home his grandfather had been staying at, he was hit with the freight train of reality. With his uncle's snapping so many years before, Jeremiah had never been told about the death of his grandfather, and ended up having to find out the gruesome fact years later.
In a fit of rage at the loss of his grandfather, Jeremiah began searching the city’s psych wards next. It was his new goal to try and find the one man he could blame for everything. Ignoring the potential chance to finally reunite with his cousin, Dorothy, or his best friend, he was blinded by an ever growing hatred for his uncle. Once he finally managed to track him down, fifteen-year-old Jeremiah was sat down across the psychotic man who'd haunted his nightmares for years. Jared Burton was the image of calm while it was his nephew's turn to have a meltdown. Not even saying a word, the two just sat and stared at each other for a long time with only a thick transparent wall that separating them. When Jared finally began to speak, it was only a matter of minutes before Jeremiah lost it. Launching at the wall and trying to get at the delusional man on the other side, it took several security officers to drag the young boy out and onto the street.
With nothing left to turn to, Jeremiah had reached a whole new low. He had no means of trying to figure out where his cousin had been sent to after the incident so many years ago. He could hardly even remember what she looked like. Continuing his streak of robberies and regular criminal behavior to just get by, he was reaching a point of not even wanting to bother carrying on with his life. It would be around the time he was about to give up that he would finally reunite with his childhood friend, Lucas Courtwater. In the midst of another theft for his next meal, Lucas called out in a friendly manner and caused Jeremiah to nearly get caught in the process. In the mess of the scenario, Jeremiah ended up grabbing Lucas and dragging him along in his getaway. The two ended up having to take cover in some of the old abandoned buildings of the city. While there, Jeremiah remained cold and angry towards his friend, slowly causing the situation to evolve into an argument between the two where Jeremiah finally broke down. Long into the night, the two just ended up talking before Lucas’s family would call in concern since he wasn’t home yet, thus leading to Jeremiah’s return to the daily lives of the Courtwater family.
The roughed up duo arriving to the Courtwater penthouse was welcomed warmly and with a brief lecture as well. Jeremiah was allowed to stay at the manor to start calming back down and dealing with his prior issues in a more stable environment. While it took a long time, with the new home, Jeremiah was slowly starting to regain his old spark. His time eventually turned into getting forced to watch Lucas playing sports, school plays, and the like by Mrs. Courtwater. When he wasn’t being suckered into watching Lucas, he was off usually doing his own thing. Over time, Jeremiah once more began to start up his troublemaking streak and returning to his former childish self. He’d drag Lucas downtown with a group of other boys he’d met on the streets or boys from Lucas’s school. While Jeremiah was all for partying the night away, Lucas managed to act as the voice of reason and keep the duo under control.
As the boys lived it up in the clubs and down town life, it was inevitable that they would once more run into Jeremiah’s cousin, Dorothy. They group were excited to finally catch up with each other, and promised to continue hanging out from that point on. When Dorothy was reported to have suddenly just taken off out of the city without warning, though, and taking nothing with her, the group quickly grew paranoid. It would be around this time that Lucas had begun the investigation of the disappearance of Elliot’s mother and Jeremiah’s cousin. They dug deeper into the investigations, a web of strange information began to spread over the city of Saffron that Jeremiah could only barely begin to understand, yet Lucas could read it all like a book. Eventually, people from Lucas’s school and various members Jeremiah recruited from the streets would get involved in the investigations and the group would soon become known as The Campaign. Jeremiah had become his best friend’s right hand man in the make-shift gang they had created to get into the deep twists and turns that was behind not only the disappearance of Ms. Daniels, but many other people in Saffron City.
While Lucas and a small group of individuals got to work on picking apart the connections, ties, and relationships of the various clubs and basic behind-the-scenes work, Jeremiah handled the front, or the distraction. With the help of the looser ties to the group, Jerry made sure to keep self-proclaimed gang rivals and the police off of Lucas’s back so the other could continue his intense investigations without worry. He did as he was told and did everything he could to aid his friend along with their long investigation of these strange disappearances. It was years of slowly gathering information before they were finally managed to lock down on the base of operations of the group causing all the strange happenings in Saffron City.
They thought they had the element of surprise, but upon nearing the firm it became quickly apparent they were expected. A fight broke out, rapidly evolving into a riot. Jeremiah tried to keep close to Lucas but as the fight went on, Lucas suddenly took off and left Jeremiah to take control of the situation. He kept up the fight up until authorities arrived and forced The Campaign to scatter. Jeremiah stayed behind to look for Lucas, but it wouldn’t be for another couple of days before Jeremiah even heard about what had happened to his friend. Four excruciatingly long and draining days had ticked by, each day spent going after various other gang members and interrogating them for information. After finally catching wind of just which hospital Lucas was being held in, it would be on his journey to said hospital that he would finally be found by none-other-than Lucas’s mother, Regina. After some debating with Interpol agents and getting Regina to use her own connections to convince them that the criminal Jeremiah wouldn’t be a potential threat to Lucas, Jeremiah was finally allowed into the hospital room.
Once inside, Jeremiah was given the whole story of what had happened when Lucas took off. The twists of Lucas finding Dorothy and what had happened while they were busy with the fight. After explaining the incident, the two spent almost every day trying to figure things out in the privacy of the hospital room, before Lucas dropped the bomb that he was going to be leaving town, leaving the region, for an undeterminable amount of town. When demanding for more information, Lucas just instructed Jeremiah to keep the gang going and make sure they didn’t stop investigating despite Interpol insisting they leave it to them. With all attempts to argue the point dismissed, Jeremiah did as he was told… For a while.
After taking temporary leadership of The Campaign, it became quickly apparent just how crucial it was to have Lucas in charge of the group. He knew everything; he was the key piece to making The Campaign work. What Jeremiah didn’t understand was something several of Lucas’s other friends got within seconds. After a few weeks had gone by, and Jeremiah had found he was not competent enough for handling both distractions and behind the scenes work, while also keeping a distant Lucas up to date, Jerry did the best thing he could do. Grabbing the most trusted inner members of the group, he passed along the torch of leadership to them, explaining his plan to go and keep an eye on Lucas so he could come back sooner rather than later. With Mrs. Courtwater’s backing, Jeremiah Burton was taking off to Orre to catch up with a brother from another mother.
