still fishing!
366
He had decided to move down the shoreline; because who knew what else would come up if he decided to go fishing at different places? He had already caught two different Water-types so far; and was starting to fear that he might be getting overrun with other types again; but he pressed on with his decision to continue fishing. Besides, it makes good training for my Ralts… I know he needs to evolve soon… he thought to himself as he continued to walk through the sand, trying to pick out another good pier to fish from. There were also other people who were trying their luck at fishing as well; but none looked as drenched as he did—he had just the worst luck of attracting all the Water-types that knew Hydro Pump; and they were not afraid to use that particular Water-type attack. “Oh well, let’s try our luck here,” he said to the Ralts that was still hanging around his leg like an uncertain and extremely shy little one, afraid of whatever else was waiting out in the water.
After getting a makeshift stand again (and this time setting it on his right side, where his dripping-wet shirt and camera bag now hung) he then sat himself down on the pier, and then reared back; before letting the line fly and then land in the water. Who knew what he would get at this location, this time? He had also checked his supply of Dive Balls and saw that he still had quite a number to use up; he then returned his attention towards the line that was now sitting calmly in the water; watching and waiting to see what the sea would throw his way. I need two more… this is going to be a challenge…! He thought to himself, remembering one of the local’s words about the Old Rod being upgraded if they caught three of the same kind of Pokémon—which was no mean feat, considering the vast size and number of Water-types that were known to exist. Just two more squid, or two more tadpoles, that’s fine with me! He thought as he kept his eyes on the fishing line…

another Lovecraftian encounter

It took less than fifteen minutes; but there was a sudden tug on the line he’d tossed out into the water! Wondering what had incurred the ire of his fishing skills; Kouji then began to reel it in—before the line suddenly began fighting against being pulled up. Wondering what was waiting for him on the “other side”, he then proceeded to reel in his catch as fast as he could—with the Ralts watching apprehensively around his legs—and then he felt his own feet shift forward; and then a smirk cracked across his face! “Looks like this one’s going to be a tough fight!” he shouted as the line continued to resist; yet he threw in all his might into reeling in whatever was on the opposite end of the line! Hoping that it wasn’t a band of angry Gyarados, the line finally broke the surface of the water and he saw a shadow fly through the air before landing with a loud thud on the pier—and he almost flipped the entire platform over out of shock—because there was another Tentacool! “Oh boy. Not the tentacles again…” he muttered; wondering how the first one was doing right now at the Ranch. Deciding that this would be the one he needed, he then stepped aside, letting the scared Ralts go forward.
I just hope this one doesn’t drench me all over again… my shirt is still not dry, good grief… he groaned in the back of his mind—and was surprised to see that this Tentacool had also gone on the offensive; this time it had decided to spit out a blob of noxious-looking fluid that sailed towards the Ralts! “Double Team, try to avoid that! It looks nasty!” he shouted; and the Ralts quickly complied; making multiple copies of itself—and the Acid Spray attack hit one of the copies; before melting an actual hole in the pier upon contact with the wood! Holy crap that is scary! He thought to himself, quickly sidestepping the small hole that it had caused. He was about to issue another set of orders when the Tentacool quickly retaliated with another wave of its…appendages; and then a wave of purple goo came rushing forward! “Oh boy, not this again!” he muttered before switching to all-out defense mode. “Rymi, dual Psychic bomb!” he continued, and the small-but-terrible Ralts complied, waving—or rather, flailing—its arms and then conjuring two large hunks of physically-manifested Psychic energy; before sending it towards the incoming Sludge Wave!
The first blob of psychic energy had cleaved the incoming Sludge Wave into half, before exploding and disappearing—while the second manifestation of psychic then screamed towards the Tentacool, surprised that its attack had been shunted aside. The attack then smacked said Tentacool upside the head; before it rolled off to one side, before another vain attempt to extend its appendages and ensnare the Ralts in its Wrap attack! “Oh god, not that again!” he shouted, quickly pointing ahead, before continuing, “Rymi! Dual Psychic bomb again! Don’t let those tentacles grab you!” he added, secretly not regretting saying those last few words. The Ralts looked at him for a few moments, before shrugging and then letting the two conjured blobs of psychic energy sail through the air and assault the Tentacool that was intent on using its flailing appendages to inflict some pain! The two successive attacks smacked the Tentacool; leaving it out could on the pier. “Oy. That was border line not safe…” he said, smacking a palm to his forehead before tossing another Dive Ball at this inert Tentacool. One more… just one more and I’m all set! He thought to himself, hoping he could get his Old Rod upgraded into something else!

After watching the Dive Ball rock from side to side, he heard it click once, twice… on the third click it was secured—he now had a second Tentacool to add to the list! Either it’s one more of these uglies or two more tadpoles, then I get that shiny Good Rod… he thought to himself as the second one was whisked away to his Ranch; and he then bore back before casting out the line again, the Ralts hiding behind his legs as the line then whooshed and then dropped into the water. It didn’t take long before the line started twitching again; before he felt a yank—and then that’s where the Ralts trembled; wondering what was wrong, he then fought against the line that was now resisting with all its might and he then reeled in whatever it was on the other end; where it fell free from the hook and landed with a thud on the pier; before releasing a sudden burst of electricity! “WHOA! Now THAT is dangerous!” he shouted out of surprise, backing up and away from the Chinchou as it began to gather electricity about its body—it meant business!
“Well then, Rymi… I’m sorry, can you put up with me for a while more? I… I have to get this guy. Psychic Leaf, now! Before it does something ugly!” he began, uttering the name of his Ralts’ combination attack; it then walked forward and began waving its limbs around, conjuring up a blast of Psychic energy and then quickly sending it towards the Chinchou’s direction! A few moments after that, it then conjured up a swarm of Magical Leaves made from its psychic power and then sent those flying as well; racing behind the Psychic. The Psychic then homed in on the Chinchou, which then attempted to gather even more energy by charging itself up with electricity; and then smacked it—it then attempted to fire off a Discharge attack yet the Magical Leaf was swirling around it, preventing it from doing anything too crazy! Wondering if it was just him, he then continued, “Leaf Storm, Rymi! Keep it up, the Chinchou can’t do anything while it’s distracted!” he continued, and the Ralts nodded, flailing its limbs around and around.
As the Chinchou managed to fire off another attack—whatever it was, it had caused such a flare that he had to shield his eyes from the sudden brightness—he could then feel something buzzing around his feet as he then heard a loud, wicked crackling. “Oh shoot. Try to end it quickly, Rymi! Leaf Storm!” he shouted, pointing forward right at the moment the Chinchou released a Discharge attack that literally lit up the entire area like a fireworks show! He then covered his eyes with his hands; but could hear the whistling noise of the three successive Magical Leaf attacks as they flew through the air and began circling around the Chinchou, who was coated in a lot of leaves that it was trying to swat away with its antlers—he then saw the chance to end the entire thing before things got way out of hand! “Rymi! Hang on, we’re almost there! Psychic it twice, now!” and then watched as the Ralts began flailing its limbs again, conjuring up two blobs of manifested energy that then shot towards the Chinchou; and since it was distracted due to trying to swat away the Magical Leaves attacks, it didn’t see what was coming—and sometime later the Chinchou then lay inert on the pier. “That’s that,” he muttered to himself, plucking out another Dive Ball and chucking it at the little critter.

After hearing the Dive Ball click, Kouji then sighed out of relief—for the Chinchou was now captured! He then remembered that someone was potentially interested in the little one; although he would have to meet the person who wanted to buy him elsewhere; since the guy was apparently travelling and was on the road now. Well, time to try again, he thought to himself as the Ralts then resumed its hiding place behind his right leg; and he drew back before casting the line out into the water once again. Wondering what he was going to get this time, he could only hope that it was something that he could actually skip on; because the first two were something he needed (and one of them was going to be sold off eventually) and he could only wish he got something interesting… a few moments later, the line then began twitching, before becoming another all-out battle! “I hope you’re another Tentacool because I’m this close to getting this old, cranky rod fixed and upgraded for a better one!” he shouted as he began winding the spool as fast as he could manage, throwing all his weight into the line, hoping that the fragile line wouldn’t snap because it was just too brittle to hold his weight any longer!
A few minutes of struggling later, he then managed to yank the line as hard as he could, and then watched as a large shadow soared out of the water and then flopped onto the pier; he saw that it was a white-colored… “Seel?” he muttered to himself, pondering if he wanted to catch it or not… after a few moments, he then waved his hand in the Seel’s direction, before saying, “Go on, go back there. I’m sorry if I plucked you from your family, I know how much of a bummer that is. I’m not going to hurt you… well, I only fight if they take the first move against me,” he said, suddenly realizing that he was talking to a Pokémon that could probably not understand him at all! The Seel then gave him a very confused look, before flopping backwards and then diving back into the water. “Nope, not going to fight something that looks so peaceful,” he said in a reassuring tone in the Ralts’ direction, before he drew back again and set the line out one more time…

the saga continues!

As the floater hit the water, the Ralts then peered out quite apprehensively from its hiding place—he was suspecting that his master had sent him through this battery of battles in order to get him trained up, but the way his master was doing it was quite… odd, to say the least. Nevertheless, he hung around his master’s legs, peering out to see whatever he would witness—he also had this secret desire of becoming stronger. At that exact moment, the line began twitching, before he then felt the familiar pull of force against his own casted-out force onto the line that had now sunk beneath the surface of the water! “Please be a tenta—just be something I’m looking for!” he muttered to himself as he began fighting against the force on the line, pulling and yanking so hard he was absolutely certain that it would break if he wasn’t careful from this point out. Even the Ralts could sense the tension in the air, and hung around his legs, waiting to be called forward as his master struggled through the motions of getting whatever he had hooked on the other end of the line to break the surface of the water and have whatever it was land on the pier.
“Come on, quit resisting…” Kouji hissed a few moments later, feeling all the tension on the pole. He was absolutely sure it was going to break; so with a final yank, he then managed to land whatever it was that had the other end of the line, and he caught sight of a lump flying through the air before landing with a wet-sounding thud on the pier… it was something he wasn’t quite familiar with; but boy was it hostile! The Lotad had been disturbed from its habitat, so without further ado, it had fired an Energy Ball attack that was headed in their direction! “Rymi, front and center, then Psychic bomb!” he began, skidding over backwards, allowing his Ralts some room to maneuver across the pier. The small-but-terrible ‘mon then began waving its appendages around; before conjuring up a physically-manifested hunk of energy that it sent flying towards the Lotad; and that was just the first one! He already know that “Psychic bomb” meant he had to send out two attacks, so after a few furious moments of flailing—and taking that Energy Ball attack full in the face—he then sent out another blob of energy; which then crashed against the Lotad. “Try to hang on, Rymi! Just hang on for me!” he shouted, watching the Ralts fall back a few paces out of surprise.
The Lotad then tried another attack; but he could not tell what it was—and out of shock he called out the command, “Psychic Leaf! I don’t care if it’s a Water-type, it is hell-bent on taking you down! Get rid of it as fast as you can!” he continued, tossing the Old Rod aside and then just watching the battle that was erupting in front of him. The Ralts nodded, before flailing its limbs; and then conjured yet another blast of Psychic energy—and sent it ahead, before calling up a storm of leaves made from its psychic power, and having them chase behind the first attack! The Ralts had taken the Nature Power attack full-on as well and he saw that it had been forced back a few paces, but the combined psychic and Magical Leaf attacks swirled around the persistent Lotad, and before long, it had been driven back and fell back into the water with a loud splashing noise. “Well, guess that’s it for that thing… let’s go continue searching… shall we?” he said towards the exhausted Ralts, who looked like he was on the verge of collapse, due to having to go through a lot of battles while his master was fishing.
