It had been a very long time; but she was home… at least for the summer. Izumi had decided to go on a little hunt, since someone was asking about a male Oddish; and she knew that there were Oddish running around her home region. She just didn’t realize who was doing the searching though, since she was also on the hunt for something to toss into the Bank when she could find it… or them. She then checked her supply of Pokeballs and saw that she had almost enough for an entire trip; and she then proceeded to go out of the city limits; and begin her search. After all, she did have enough time until her next match came up; and she knew that she couldn’t stray too far from the city; just in case she got word on when her next match would be! Of course, she wasn’t hoping too much—but she really wanted to get something out of this search. Otherwise, she’d have to go the long way and continue searching until she found the Oddish the person was requesting.
What made this even odder was the fact that they wanted a male Oddish; but she was no Breeder, therefore she could not tell what gender they were… not at first glance it seemed. “Ugh, I really should study more on stuff like this…” she groaned to herself as she plucked a Pokeball from her pocket and then tossed it, revealing her Quilava in a flash of red light. “Ara, I know it’s been a while… let’s do this thing,” she said with a grin on her face; and the Quilava then proceeded to sniff at her sandals before rubbing up against her—and then trotting forward. “Qui! Quilava, qui?” she heard it ask her; and she looked down for a moment and said, “Well… I’ll let you talk to your mum later, okay?” she said, giving it a chin rub before walking forward…

There was nothing but silence around them—that and her Quilava’s persistent sniffling of the ground around it, as if trying to pick up the scent of whatever it was they were searching for. Since she had no actual idea how to tell the difference between male and female ‘mons in general, she decided she’d just catch the Oddish on sight, whatever gender it was. After all, they could breed it and get one of the opposite gender just in case, right? She was about to sigh when she saw her Quilava look up; sensing the presence of something that wasn’t supposed to be there—and she followed the Quilava’s trail of vision until she saw… something that looked like a hyena? “What the hell?” she muttered to herself, before the Quilava suddenly reared back and made the flames on its back shoot up and flash in a brilliant display. Evidently, this was not the one his mistress was searching for; and he flashed his mane of flames again; scaring the little dog-like ‘mon that had come out to check what the source of the noise was!
“Well, definitely not… come on let’s go,” she continued, whistling in the Quilava’s direction—it looked up and then followed her deeper into the grassland; so that the two cold continue their searching! Wondering whatever would come out would be was something that Izumi liked to guess; would it be the one they were looking for? She sighed and checked her mobile phone; but there were no updates yet as to when the next match would be scheduled. As long as I have enough time to look then that’s fine with me! She thought to herself as they proceeded further away from the city limits.

This time though, the grass from up ahead was quivering; was it the one she needed?! Izumi and the Quilava waited with bated breath before seeing it appear—and the girl wanted to just flip the entire city of Slateport over without hesitation; because it was a Zigzagoon! Most useless Pokémon in Hoenn… no, seriously, all it can do is pick up stuff... she thought to herself as she slapped a palm to her forehead and rolled her eyes out of annoyance. The Quilava then attempted to roar at the Zigzagoon in an attempt to scare it off; but the Ziggy continued to stare at them—as if waiting for something interesting to happen. “No, don’t waste your time on the little Ziggy, they’re… well, yeah,” she said into an uncomfortable silence; and the Quilava looked confused as his mistress then turned tail and then proceeded to wander through another patch of grassy area. she then turned back and whistled, since he wasn’t walking alongside her—and the Quilava abruptly turned around and followed the source of the noise; leaving behind the raccoon ‘mon staring at what could have been a better life had he been captured and taken along…

The duo continued to go through the grasslands, still keeping their eyes and ears peeled for whatever would come out next. It was this one, however, that severely tested their resolve to turn away and keep looking—because apparently there was a Ralts nearby, and it was watching the two. “Oh dear. Oh boy. I know Momo’s been on my case for a while, but this is ridiculous…” she continued, sighing to herself and then holding a hand down in the Quilava’s direction, trying to keep it quiet because she knew that Ralts, on general, picked up on the positive emotions and ran away at the slightest sign of hostility. I want a Gallade so that Momo doesn’t feel lonely, but… she thought to herself as she eyed the Ralts, who was now staring back at them. the Quilava looked at it with a questioning look; before tugging at her boots, trying to tell her to leave the Ralts and they could come back another time. “Eh? Ara, not now?” she asked the Quilava out of confusion—and then bowing in the Ralts’ direction before turning tail and heading back in the direction where they came from. Not now, dear. Soon… she thought to herself, unconsciously tapping one of the other PokeBalls she had with her.

It was right on cue—a few steps further down the road, Arashi’s “mane” of flames suddenly burst into a more lively display—before it roared and approached Izumi, and then nudging her forward. “Wait, what is it? Did you see…?” she trailed off, squinting into the patch of yet unexplored grassland not too far ahead; before seeing some of it quiver and shake. “Oh boy,” she said to herself; before looking and watching as… a walking clump of grass made its presence known to the Quilava and the Trainer that stood before it. right then and there, she knew that she had found the target—quickly whipping out her mobile number and texting the individual who had requested for this particular species and notifying them that they had found the ‘mon that they wanted! After she had sent the message, she dropped her phone back into her pocket, and then decided to get things rolling. “Ara. Let’s warm up on this shall we? Go start with a Quick Attack and follow up with a Lava Plume once you’re close enough!” she began, pointing forward and then reaching with her free hand into her pocket—a sign that she intended to get this creature for the person she’d just texted.
“Qui! Quilava, qui!” she heard him chirp out; before quickly closing the distance and slamming its body weight into the startled Oddish before it could even blink; before skidding off and then suddenly letting out a roar—and then the ground beneath it began to tremble. In its defense, the Oddish then suddenly began spinning around—quite slowly, at first, before it released an explosion of flower petals into the air; which went screaming towards the Quilava—or at least it tried to. Instead, it ended up crashing against a wall of fire; and the leaves were instantly reduced to cinders; before bouncing off the ground and encircling the Oddish in a circle of fire. Terrified, the plant ‘mon in its defense then tried to unleash another explosion of petals a second time; but Izumi had other ideas—and then continued the commands with, “Use Extrasensory to lift him up!” and watched as the Quilava took on a look of intense concentration; before staring; almost glaring at the poor thing. It hadn’t finished its rotation yet; however the Petal Dance attack was already rushing towards the Quilava as the Oddish suddenly felt its center of gravity shift; and it was knocked off its feet before being lifted up with unseeing power. “Drop it in the fire!” she continued, and with a flick of its head, the Quilava then let the Oddish fly into the circle of flames; and she heard it shriek out of surprise—but not before seeing that it had released a cloud of spores!
Ah shit, this is bad, she thought to herself as she didn’t know which status-changing attack the Oddish had released, so she shouted a warning, “Ara, stay clear of the—oh crap,” she hissed, seeing that the cloud of spores were suddenly blown by a gust of wind headed in their direction, and the Quilava had inhaled a lot of said spores; and she watched in shock as it slumped over… and began snoring! “What the hell! Seriously?!” she shouted, annoyed that her Quilava had fallen victim to a sleep attack. She then saw the Oddish unleash another explosive round of the petals and then aimed it at the sleeping Quilava’s direction; where it took the full force of the attack without waking up. “Dang it, Ara. Arashi! Wake up!” she shouted from the sidelines, but the Quilava remained slumped on the ground, apparently enjoying its peaceful nap. She then looked back to the Oddish and saw that it was now teetering around quite dangerously; and she was contemplating on sending out another ‘mon of hers when it made the mistake of walking into another one of the rings of fire that the Lava Plume attack had left behind.
Another ear-piercing shriek emanated from the Oddish, and she decided to put out the fire; releasing Nixe, her Empoleon in another flash of red light. “Nixe, put out the fire with Bubblebeam, and be quick! I don’t want to cause a fire so close to Slateport!” she said, pointing at the burning grass; and the Empoleon nodded without further need; it took a deep breath and then released a stream of highly-concentrated bubbles that exploded and released water on contact with the fire. After dousing as much of the fire as it could, she then recalled the Empoleon and watched as it disappeared back into its Pokeball; and that was when the Quilava chose to woke up, several turns later. “Qui…?” it said with a yawn; before suddenly snapping to attention—instead of a fire, there was a lot of smoldering grass in its wake… and a passed-out Oddish. “Geez. It got overexposed to the fire…” she muttered to herself as she plucked out a Pokeball and then chucked it at the fallen Oddish, watching as it was swallowed up in a flash of red light.

It was quite surprising though, after the entire thing had happened. Once the Oddish’s Pokeball had fallen to the ground and was whisked away to the nether space known as her PC storage, something suddenly overcame her Quilava. She was too quick to notice it, but eventually, there was the fancy lights show that she’d since then come to associate with evolution… but it had happened so fast, the lights had enveloped the surprised Quilava, Izumi (and Nixe) had no more time to react as he disappeared in the flash and re-emerged a few moments later… now standing up on two legs and sporting a very different look! “Oh my. Oh goodness. Mama Kaji… would be so proud of you!” she squealed, dashing forward and giving Arashi a hug. Now that both mother and son were Typhlosion… there was something that was about to change with her team line-up dramatically. She decided not to disclose it for now, though, as she quickly recalled Nixe and Arashi and checked her mobile phone—there was a message about her next match in the summer tourney she’d joined just for kicks.
