As was the usual for Bailey, he was having trouble. The main issue was that his lab didn't have an assistant or secretary to answer the phone or schedule meeting or do the paperwork, which meant the young Professor had less time to work on his research or to go out and do field work. It was a huge hassle and he wanted it handled. After posting an online ad requesting an assistant, someone in Lumiose answered it and so he went to the city of lights to get himself a worker bee.
Unfortunately for the fiery red head, the ad answer was a bust. The man who answered could barely see ten feet in front of him and Bailey was afraid that the elderly man might blow a gasket trying to type something up. Telling, more like yelling, the old bat it wouldn't work out, Bailey left his retirement home with a headache and the odor of death old people in his nostrils. The Professor decided to walk around the Prism Tower, one of the biggest tourist attractions in all of Kalos. He even stopped to buy a baguette from one of the local stands. The food was good and the sights were great and Bailey was starting to forget about the crazy old man.

Another day, another time for adventuring! Well, Izumi was still trying to gather some supplies in order to have enough to return to the Badlands, since the last two trips she made there were… quite uneventful; at least she already had a Key Stone; or whatever it was that DJ had called it. Taking out the shining, shimmering rock, she then looked at it this way and that, before sighing and then stowing it back in her pockets. She knew what it was, alright, but had no idea what else went along with the danged process. Her beloved Gardevoir was also out and about beside her; and the moment it sensed just a bit of frustration, she felt a light touch on her shoulder. Heh, I keep forgetting how tall Momo is now… we’re almost the same in height… she thought to herself as she turned around and faced her companion and gave a nod; to tell her that she was… generally okay, but not completely alright. The night before had Izumi waking up covered in sweat, for she’d gone through that nightmare that would most probably never leave her mind: the night that Lavaridge had lost its ‘Prodigal Son’ to a bounty hunter.
“Urrrrgh, Momo, I’m not going to lie, I feel like crap. You were there to see that too, right? That… time,” she continued, shivering for a few moments before looking up; her subsequent wandering around Lumiose had led her to walk around quite aimlessly whenever she got lost in thought. She then noticed that Momo was pointing to something in the distance; she then followed her ‘mon’s line of sight and saw that they were staring up at the prism Tower now; something that made Lumiose the entire center of the Kalos region, for some reason. “Hm? Is it the tower?” she asked her companion; but her ‘mon was pointing at something else; something that it had seen a split-second before her mistress’ attention had been drawn away to the tower: an individual with red hair; but from this distance the Gardevoir couldn’t tell if the person also had crimson-colored eyes. “Oh…” she continued a few moments later, letting her vision wander down from the sight of the shimmering tower to another point of interest that Momo was pointing at, “What… who is that?” she muttered to herself, seeing that there was a guy with red hair. No, that can’t be the guy I met in the shop… the guy with the Eevee… it can’t be… she thought, letting her feet stumble forward, closing the distance between herself and the red-headed guy; who from the looks of things was also wandering around the tower; eating something as well.
She was so preoccupied with trying to get as close as possible to the Tower (on pretext of trying to bump into the guy to see if he was the same one she’d encountered some time ago) she’d already bumped into him by complete and total accident! “Gah! Oh my god I’m so sorry!” she said out of surprise, feeling her balance suddenly shift wildly, and a few moments later she had landed in an unceremonious heap on the street.
Munching on his baguette, Bailey noticed the locals, and tourist, who were visiting the Prism Tower. The Kalosian people were more than used to the tower, the dazzle of the thing no longer there after seeing it every morning when you woke up. For the tourist, however, it was a beautiful sight. The tower was, if not the, tallest building in Kalos, tied only with the Tower of Mastery. This gigantic feat of architecture lit up the Lumiose sky with its bright lights. Ah yes, the Prism Tower was a sight to behold. Staring up at it, admiring the beauty, Bailey was completely unaware of the Gardevoir staring at him and the trainer that was as well.
In fact, it wasn't until he was falling to the ground in a jumbled mess with some girl, who shouted, "Gah! Oh my god I’m so sorry!" did he realize something was going on. "Oi!" He yelled as he was going down. With the two of them a heap of Humans on the floor, he began to get up, helping the girl up as well. "Are ye' ok, lass?" The young Professor asked, his thick Scottish/Irish accent clearly audible. Bailey was fine, besides his food being thrown across the floor in the collision. The girl who had ran into him wasn't that bad looking, he noticed. Her hair was shoulder length, maybe a little bit longer, he couldn't really tell because they had both fallen. It might have, well probably, got messed up in the fall. She had a pretty face as well. Even if she had made him fall, Bailey wouldn't mind taking the blame. "Sorry 'bout 'ta fall there." He said, a warm smile on his face. Having helped her up, he offered his hand, adding, "'Ta names Bailey Finnigan, by'ta way."

With the pain in her backside throbbing, she then proceeded to pull herself up; when the individual she’d bumped (more like crashed) into offered to help her up. Even if his accent sounded a bit different, what threw off her orientation completely was the fact… that he also had crimson-colored eyes, and they were now staring back at her. It was like she’d been taken into a time warp, back to that fateful day; and for a few moments she just sat there, frozen, staring up into his face. The Gardevoir had also received the shock of its life and was now flailing its arms wildly; not to mention the fact that its own mouth was now hanging open out of surprise! Am… am I seeing things?! Izumi thought hurriedly; rubbing her eyes and shaking her head for a few moments; but nope, she was most definitely not seeing things at all; the person she’d just unceremoniously sent into a heap on the street as well was the spitting image of the boy who forever haunted her waking and non-waking moments.
The Gardevoir, on the other hand, was flailing its arms so hard it just wanted to leap at the man and hug him; but upon hearing the accent, its ‘feet’ stayed rooted on the ground; because that was definitely not his voice at all. And after a few more moments of potentially awkward silence… she spoke. “A… Are you… no, it possibly can’t be… he’s… you…” she stammered out, taking Bailey’s hand and pulling herself up and off the ground. She then coughed ever so slightly before composing herself. Drat, and his name is almost a ringer for… arrrrgh… she thought to herself, the wild daze of thoughts running and spinning through her head, before she felt something fall from her eye. “You… you look like…” she began again, a bit more composed but still muttered. “Ugh, I’m sorry, sorry for rambling off like that. I’m Izumi. Yamamura Izumi,” she said, after dusting herself off and giving him a bow; before straightening up again. “Sorry for bumping into you like that. I was just… preoccupied about something.”
If her Gardevoir could talk, then she’d have heard a slight snort and a haughty voice saying this, “Bumping? More like you wanted to see what he looked like! Although I will admit, he does look like Master. Only thing that threw me off was his voice. Just that one little detail threw me off entirely. I thought the dead could live again…” but instead, there were a few images that flickered on her own field of vision, which she decided to send toward her mistress, and in those images were some sentiments about what had happened.
When Bailey helped her up, they locked eyes. The girl's amber colored eyes staring into the Professor's own crimson colored, in fact, it was more like they were staring into his soul. They stood like that for what seemed like an eternity when it was in fact only a couple of seconds. She pulled away and wiped at her eyes, as if she was clearing something form them. Maybe she got something in them when they had fallen? Bailey would have checked if it weren't for the flailing Gardevoir that was freaking him out. It seemed to stop when he had spoken, which was fine by him. Stuttering, the woman said, "A… Are you… no, it possibly can’t be… he’s… you…" She then took Bailey's hand and stood up, before turning to him, a single tear falling form her eye saying, "You… you look like…" She was flustered and tried to compose herself and she then bowed, saying, "Ugh, I’m sorry, sorry for rambling off like that. I’m Izumi. Yamamura Izumi." She added, "Sorry for bumping into you like that. I was just… preoccupied about something."
Bailey was extremely confused. This girl, Izumi, had started crying. Crying because she had ran into him. "Lass, Izumi I mean, what's 'ta matter? Ye' seem a little upset." He said, looking into her eyes for some kind of hint. The ginger added, "I look like someone ye' know, eh? A friend er somethin'?"

When she heard him ask about what the matter was, she then saw that there were ‘images’ being projected into her mind’s eye; courtesy of the Gardevoir that was still staring at Bailey like it too, had seen something from a long time ago. “Well,” she began, noticing that he was now looking at her in the exact same way that Bunji did whenever he could sense that she was upset (this was way before they broke up when he suddenly left Lavaridge and explored the world for his own) “It’s just that… you look like someone I used to know… someone who was very near and dear to me. Why was? Because he’s dead…” she trailed off, feeling that tight sensation in her throat as she then shuffled through the pockets of her cargo pants in order to locate the only picture that they had together; taken a few days before the night that changed Izumi’s future for the worse. “Give me a moment,” she muttered, hastily wiping her face with her left hand as her right hand continued to search through several pockets, before finally finding her wallet and pulling it out; and it looked like it was stuffed. Not with money though, the wallet was stuffed with pictures and memories.
With shaking hands she opened the wallet and then finally found the picture she was looking for; and then plucked it from the pile and then showed it to him. It was a picture of a younger Izumi and Bunji hanging out together, making faces at the camera outside of the hot springs that had made Lavaridge a welcome destination for travelers who went to the Hoenn region in order to experience the varieties of climate that the area had to offer. Of course, the hot springs were no exception to this rule; in fact it had been one of the grandmothers who were frequently found there that had taken this picture; an eternal moment now captured in film. “You… you look exactly like he does,” she said after a few moments of silence. “I thought that the impossible had happened, that dead people could come back to life… but apparently, that is definitely not the case…” she added.
Something was obviously wrong. Izumi looked like she was about to fall apart emotionally, and fall to the ground physically. She began speaking, saying, "Well," and then she stopped. It looked like she had just been hit by a bus of feels, the emotions visible on her face. Once again, she started to speak, getting more out this time as she said, "It’s just that... you look like someone I used to know... someone who was very near and dear to me. Why was? Because he’s dead..." And then her voice got caught in her throat. Bailey recognized it because he also knew how hard it was to lose someone close.. The young red head was all too understanding when she said, "Give me a moment." Wiping at the tears rolling down her face, she pulled a wallet out, seemingly over flowing with.. Pictures? Bailey couldn't tell completely, but it definitely wasn't money.
The dark haired girl fumbled around with the wallet, searching for a certain picture. Izumi found it and showed it to Bailey. The picture, if he was any guess, was of a younger version of her and.. What appeared to be a younger Bailey. It was disturbing how a like he looked with the boy in the picture. Their hair, eyes, skin tone all the same. Izumi confirmed Bailey's thoughts, saying, "You… you look exactly like he does." With a nod, Bailey looked to her, feeling the pain in her voice as she said, "I thought that the impossible had happened, that dead people could come back to life… but apparently, that is definitely not the case…" It was a lot to take in, even more so for Izumi, Bailey thought. He took a deep breath before saying, "I see. Sorry 'ta dissapoint' ye', but I'm not yer friend." Bailey needed to try and lighten the mood in some way, so he added with a sad smile, "But he looks very 'andsome, if I'm any judge."

From the accent alone, you most certainly aren’t, but… went through her mind as she suddenly felt her face flush; did he… did he just complement Bunji? Them looking like identical twins and all that? She continued to herself as she then stuffed the photo back into the wallet that she was holding, before wiping her face with her left hand again. “Ugh, I’m sorry to set you off like that. Momo, stop gaping at him with your mouth open; it’s quite embarrassing,” she said a few moments later, giving a pat to the Gardevoir’s head; at that moment it stopped flailing its arms and then calmed down, but was still looking at Bailey with this unreadable look on its face. “I know that it’s not possible for the dead to live again; if it was then this encounter would not have happened,” she began again, bowing deeply in his direction as her means of apologizing. “I’m sorry if I took up your time,” she added again; and this time even the Gardevoir did a graceful bow as well in Bailey’s direction.
At that moment, Momo suddenly got a very devious idea; it then began “projecting” some images into her mistress’ mind; and that caused her to snap up and look at the Gardevoir that was now sporting a very evil grin on its face (if one could call a Gardevoir leering that). “W-what!? Momo, you can’t be… honestly, you want me to do… that?” she sputtered her mon’s way; to which it replied by waving its limbs in her direction, before giving a very pointed look at Bailey. “W-what!? Are you saying… oh, come on!” she continued, secretly glad that Bailey could not see what her mind’s eye was seeing right now; the two, go hang out?! At this, the Gardevoir had a look of triumph on her face before crossing its arms and then looking first at her, then at him again. “Seriously? Come on! You really want me to…?” she continued, looking wildly from Momo to Bailey, and then between the two. Ugh, Mo, I’m so going to get you for this! She thought in her mind as she tried to form the words that she wanted to say!
After another moment of potentially awkward silence, she began to speak again. “Uhhh, the thing is… I… uhm…” she began stammering again; before digging around her pockets once more and then finally finding the ad that she’d stripped off from a light post around the city. “I was looking around and saw that you were looking for an assistant of some sort?” she continued, showing him the ad that he had posted. “I’m more of the traveling type though; but I’ll be in Kalos for the time being, seeing as I have to learn more about Mega evolution and all that,” she added, hoping that the ad caught Bailey’s attention.
Apparently the little joke didn't go well with Izumi or she did not get it because she just gave Bailey the wildest look. It appeared like she dismissed some thought after looking at the Professor like he was a fool, and pocketed her wallet. The black haired girl wiped her face of tears and said, "Ugh, I’m sorry to set you off like that." Then, halfway through speaking, she glared at her Gardevoir and spoke, "Momo, stop gaping at him with your mouth open; it’s quite embarrassing." Bailey took a quick look back at the Gardevoir, having been completely unaware that it had been staring at him the entire time. His attention returned to Izumi when she said, "I know that it’s not possible for the dead to live again; if it was then this encounter would not have happened." Bailey nodded, knowing that she was speaking the truth. He wouldn't have been a Professor if that were true.
She straightened up and took a deep bow, muttering, "I'm sorry if I took up your time." Even her Gardevoir took a bow, probably meaning the same thing by it. Bailey didn't mind at all, actually enjoying the break he was getting from searching for an assistant. Then, something odd happened. She began giving her Gardevoir odd looks, who in turn returned odd looks and gave the ginger odd looks, and Bailey was just confused.
After an awkward pause, Izumi looked to Bailey, color raising up her neck, and began stammering, "Uhhh, the thing is... I... uhm..." "Poor girl." The young Professor thought as he watched her struggle to pull something out of her pocket.. That he recognized as one of his flyers! She showed it to him, saying, "I was looking around and saw that you were looking for an assistant of some sort?" He nodded slowly and was about to say something when she added, "I'm more of the traveling type though; but I'll be in Kalos for the time being, seeing as I have to learn more about Mega evolution and all that." ... What? What had she just said? Taking a look at the flyer, confirming it was his, he said, "Aye, I am lookin' fer an assistant. I'd be glad 'ta have ye along, but what was 'tat ye' said? Somethin' 'bout "mega evolution"? If ye' don't mind me askin', what in 'ta blood hell is 'tat?"

Trying to understand Bailey was partially a challenge in itself; what with his accent so thick she had to always keep a sharp ear on at all times. “Yes, I saw this ad so I’d like to help you out as much as I can; since you’re going to be stuck here in Kalos… you may as well have a field assistant who’d travel to other regions for you and look for whatever types of ‘mons that you need for your research, among other things,” she began, remembering a certain other Professor who had given her the Mudkip that was now a battle-scarred Marshtomp; all the Professor types were ornery in their own way, mostly choosing to stay within their labs; or just within their regions altogether. As for the so-called “Mega Evolution…” she sighed, remembering one of the reasons why she’d gone out for a walk today—to get her mind off things. Yeah, I just lost a few days ago… she thought to herself quite bitterly before explaining all that she knew about the topic.
“Well, thanks to an encounter with another tourist like me—from the looks of things I believe—this Mega Evolution… allows certain Pokemon to evolve past their own current limits. I have yet to fully string it together though, since I only have this…” she continued, shuffling around in her pockets for a few moments before yanking out the Key Stone that she’d dug up. “Apparently they need this in order to be able to achieve such limits… but… how it actually goes I have no idea. I tried to climb the tower over in Shalour, but… I was batted out and sent home empty-handed, quite literally. Both of my fighters turned into frozen statues because of a stupid Ice Beam attack that just had to ruin everything…” she muttered, gritting her teeth at that point. “So now… well, I’m trying to redeem myself at this point in time. Because honestly, it’s hard enough as it is to have traumatized ‘mons suffering from an Ice Beam attack. Just that one attack ruined my chances completely…” she added, since everything that had just transpired did happen; and the two ‘mons were now… in a state of shock, so to speak.
She then shuffled around her pockets again and then pulled out a card; this was one of the cards left from her catching days, and it had her own mobile number on it. “Here you go; just in case you need to contact me for anything…”
The young Professor stared wide eyes at Izumi, truly confused and curious as to what she was talking about. In all his years as a student of pokemon studies, he had never heard of "Mega Evolution". Perhaps it was some new trainer term? Or a new battle item? It didn't matter because he would soon find out what it was, well, that's what he had been hoping would happen. Unfortunately for the red head, that's not what would be happening. At least not at first. "Yes, I saw this ad so I'd like to help you out as much as I can; since you’re going to be stuck here in Kalos... you may as well have a field assistant who'd travel to other regions for you and look for whatever types of 'mons that you need for your research, among other things." She said, more or less confirming that she wished to be his assistant. That's good, no more searching at least.
She then continued speaking, "Well, thanks to an encounter with another tourist like me—from the looks of things I believe this "Mega Evolution" allows certain Pokemon to evolve past their own current limits. I have yet to fully string it together though, since I only have this..." Finally, Bailey thought. He would learn about the Mega Evolution that she had been talking about. She began searching through her pockets before she finally brought out a gem of sorts, or a stone; Bailey couldn't tell. It was rainbow colored and had some kind of symbol on it.. Truth be told it was very interesting. Mesmerized by it, she continued with what she was saying, "Apparently they need this in order to be able to achieve such limits, but, ow it actually goes I have no idea. I tried to climb the tower over in Shalour, but... I was batted out and sent home empty-handed, quite literally." Ah, the mysterious Tower of Mastery. Bailey had never been there, having been too busy with school and whatnot, but he had heard of it. Apparently it contained great knowledge, and from what Izumi was saying, Bailey assumed it had something to do with Mega Evolution. He didn't catch what she said at the end, but he assumed it wasn't going to be a big deal.
Again, she dug into her pockets, those things seemed like infinite holes of space, before she pulled out a card. She handed it to Bailey, saying, "Here you go; just in case you need to contact me for anything." The Professor nodded, taking the card and pocketing it. "Aye, thank ye' very much. For the infermation and 'ta willingness to become my assistant. I look forward 'ta workin' with ye'!" Smiling, he offered her his hand to shake.

“That’s as much information on Mega Evolution that I know. The rest I have yet to figure out… after I get better in battling, since the next part of it involves climbing the tower in Shalour and making it to the very top. I’ll try to get that information as best as I can; if I find anything I will let you know as much as I am able to,” she said, before going into a deep bow; then taking his hand to shake; formally sealing the deal. Hah, at least I now have a sideline job that’s not too shady… she thought as she straightened up once more; and after the formal gesture, a thought struck her.
“Oh. OH. How stupid of me. I was about to leave and start wandering around Kalos when I realized… can I have your number so that we can keep in touch?” she said, vocalizing her own thoughts all at once; suddenly remembering that if she didn’t get the other number, then how would she find him?
Another thought popped into her head and then she took out the flier once again and studied it quite intently. “Funny this flier doesn’t have information on where your lab is. Where will I go so that I can drop off any findings I make in the wild?” she asked the redhead again, keeping her mind from going berserk because hello, this was an almost-identical carbon copy of Bunji she was talking to; albeit with a bit of a thick accent! “You don’t want your…assistant getting lost now do you?” she added with a bit of a grin on her face.
It wasn't any surprise to the young Professor when Izumi pointed out that he had failed to put any information concerning himself or his lab on the flyer. Chuckling and putting a hand behind his head, his cheeks flaring up a bit, he answered her, "Of course! My number is.." He began to tell her number, also telling her when the best times would be to contact him. I don't have a phone set up oooops. Pulling out a pen, Bailey wrote on the back of the flyer the address of his lab. "Here ye' are. Stop by anytime! Ye're more than welcome." The Professor said, smiling at her as he handed her the flyer back.
Suddenly, his holocaster began to ring. Bailey took it out and answered it, his eyes growing large as he listened to what the person on the other end had to say. "I see.. I'll be on my immediately!" Bailey said, before hanging up. He ran a hand through his hair, then quickly turned to Izumi, saying, "Sorry, Izumi, but I gotta' get goin'. It really was nice gettin' 'ta meet'cha! Keep in contact, ok?" The red head then began to jog off towards the streets, looking for a taxi.

Izumi then watched his expression change to one of complete embarrassment; how could he have forgotten to place his own contact details on the ad that he’d placed up? She then grinned very sheepishly in his direction as he took the ad; and then scribbled some additional details on it before getting it back from him. After that she witnessed a call coming in from something—something that was totally nothing like her PokeNav from back home! “Oh!” she began, seeing that he had to go, but bowing again all the same, “I’ll make sure to find you and give you a ring once I find something… I think I may have, so I might go to your Lab over in… Coumarine and show it to you,” she said to his retreating figure as he went down and hailed a cab. Wonder where he’s going? She thought to himself as he disappeared—and apparently that was her cue to get going too. She then looked behind her to see that momo was still flailing; albeit looking quite devious at this point.
“A-ha. N-no, Momo, I am not coming down with a crush on him! It’s just… you know, the memories are still fresh!” she said, stammering at the Embrace ‘mon, who was now looking at her with an evil eye, before hiding its mouth with its hand; indicating that there was an uncharacteristically evil grin on its face at this point. “No! Momo, what’re you doing?! S-stop that!” she squealed out of embarrassment, as her Gardevoir decided to start a game of ‘chase me down’ in order to divert her mistress’ attention from what had just happened earlier!
