Title: Bug Boom Claimed By: Open Catching: Yes (Viridian Forest) Members: 1-3 Rewards: •2 for each fainted up to •20 (Plus whatever the Mod wants)
Description: The bug population of the Viridian Forest has sky rocketed as of late and the Pokemon Rangers say that they need to be culled in order to protect the ecosystem and the local plant life. Other Pokemon's lives are on the line in this eco crash, particularly the bird and smaller rodent population around the forest, so do not be sorry for killing off these bugs.
Notes: A catch does not count as a faint. Participants must "call" targets and are responsible for fainting that one for the prize. Participants can only "call" one target at a time. Raid Mission is sequel.

A great terror had befallen the once-peaceful and hallowed grounds of Viridian Forest. Its delicate yet long-standing ecosystem had, until quite recently, provided a home for the less imposing birds, rodents, and insects of the Pokemon world. They scurried about, foraging and hunting under a canopy of green formed by an intricate lattice of interwoven branches. This network stretched across the whole of the forest, casting the better part of its soil in a protective shadow which kept it pleasantly cool even in the harshest months of the summer. What few strands of stray sunlight found their way through shined down upon its denizens like pillars of pale gold, with only the odd clearing standing out as particularly bright. Moreover, Viridian Forest served as the proving grounds for hopeful, young upstarts looking to embark on their Pokemon journey. Those who ventured through it emerged a stronger Trainer who could say that they and their partners had faced a challenge, attacked it, and overcame it together.
However, recent weeks saw that the population of Bug type Pokemon soared to truly dangerous heights. The careful balance of Viridian Forest's ecosystem hung precariously in the balance, for the insects threatened to dominate it completely. Whatever the cause of this sudden and exponential boom in their numbers, local experts agreed that it needed to be stopped. Being creatures of lesser faculties, the insects gave no thought to their actions and knew only that they stood, unopposed, atop the food chain. With this indisputable dominance came aggression, and so the danger extended to both Trainer and Pokemon alike. If allowed to continue unchecked, their forces stood to spill over into the surrounding areas. More urgently, however, the explosion of Bug types threatened the very plantlife of the forest -- that being critical for the continued survival of its Pokemon.
Leon Jaeger, having known Viridian Forest well in his younger years, felt a sense of personal responsibility for its protection. Kanto, after all, was his original home, and he could not stand idly by while it was so cruelly defiled. Whether it be at the hands of Team Rocket or a twist of fate in the natural world, Leon knew it well that he needed to return to Kanto immediately and put a stop to it. So, while others steered clear of Viridian Forest, the raven-haired Trainer walked confidently toward it with Esper, keen and wary, standing loyally at his right hand. For this mission, he was assigned a partner in the form of Izumi, with whom he had recently entered into an alliance against the likes of the Rockets. He waited patiently for her arrival, that they might retake the forest in a relentless blitzkrieg.

She was coming from the opposite direction—from Pewter, to be precise, and then quickly fished out her phone and then went through the interface and finally found the number she was looking for—and quickly typed a message, and in brief it read as this:
“Hey, Leon? Izumi here. I’m coming in from the Pewter City side of the Forest. Looks like this infestation is bad… chewed and dead leaves are everywhere I look from here. How’s it over on your end? If you want, we can work our way through the area and we can meet in the middle… because any sort of infestation that involves bugs is bound to attract all sorts of trouble…”
She then hit “Send” on the screen, and then quickly reached in for one particular Pokeball and first pressed the central button to make it larger, and then sent out its occupant in a flash of red light—and in moments, the small, yet completely adorable Cyndaquil appeared, where it quickly sniffled at her sneakers, before giving her leg an affectionate rub. “Cyn? Cyndaquil?” she heard it ask, before she crouched down and said, “Well, right now, Ara, I need your help. Think you’re up to the task?” she asked, before touching the tip of its snout as gently as she could manage.
“Cyn! Cyndaquil, cyn!” she heard her companion call out, and she was pleased—and she then stood up from her crouched position and then said, “Well, looks like the infestation is as bad as it sounds… but let’s wait and see before dropping any fireballs, okay?” she trailed off, training her ears to listen for the quivering sound of displaced leaves and whatnot. Who knew what would come out from the shaking shrubbery—even if it was thinned out so badly at this point.
A familiar jingle reached Leon's ears amid the buzzing and rustling of the infested forest. He reached into his jeans' pocket and pulled out his cell phone, swiping across its screen with his index finger to access Izumi's message. Though he remained ever aware of his surroundings, which grew more hostile the further in he traveled, the Trainer took a moment to scan the text with his icy blue eyes. Leon then glanced about the devastated ecosystem and saw, true to his partner's observations, a vast contingency of chewed up plant life and decaying foliage. The canopy of green slightly thinned as it stretched off into the horizon, and its fallen leaves littered the ground, withered and dried in a manner uncharacteristic of the normally-lush, green forest. The odd overturned tree further besmudged what had once been a picturesque scene. Though it did not reach apocalyptic proportions and may yet be salvaged by immediate action, it was jarring for a man who once frequented these parts to observe it in such disarray.
"Not much different over here. Doubt it's any better than your end. I agree - the middle would be best. Let me know if you run into trouble; I'll have Esper find you."
He kept his message efficient and utilitarian; every second Leon spent typing was one in which a roving Insect Pokemon could leap, crawl, or fly from some obscure corner and strike him unawares. Unlike the Wild Pokemon of more stable environments who made it a point to challenge Trainers formally in some form of ritual, he and Izumi faced hungry beasts searching desperately for food rather than for healthy competition or the chance to prove themselves in battle. Indeed, the very second he pressed the 'Send' button and slid the phone back into his pocket, Leon began to pick up the faint yet distinctive, steady drone of thin, filmy wings flapping vigorously in the distance. The sound drew ever nearer, putting the Trainer and his Alakazam very much on guard. As the approaching creature closed the distance between himself and his would-be prey, Leon was able to pinpoint the origin of the piercing noise.
Even so, the Yanma moved with surpassing speed, darting out from between a pair of thick tree trunks with her front most legs outstretched menacingly. She let out a ravenous cry, showing little more than bloodthirsty disregard for the Trainer. Leon dove nimbly to the side, tucking into a roll the second he felt his shoulder hit the ground. In the process, a small number of snapped twigs and rocks scuffed him up, but Leon had more important things to worry about. He looked up to see its red, chitinous body as it turned around to swoop in for a second attack. This time, she attempted to lash at the young man with her finely sharpened wings. However, acting of his own volition, Esper dove in front of the assault and raised a translucent, golden barrier to defend his beloved partner. They both knew that Leon had no time to voice his thanks, and so the psychic received his grateful nod as though it were a profoundly gracious speech.
"Charge Beam!" Leon roared his command in a swift, resonant tone, and Esper obeyed unflinchingly. As his Trainer slipped out from behind him, he lowered the Reflect and ducked underneath the swooping Yanma. Before she could gear up for yet another attack, however, he crossed his silver spoons and molded his mental energies into a great potential difference. A crackle and a spark shot off before the familiar concentration of yellow photons gathered before the Alakazam. With pinpoint accuracy, he launched the shimmering ray directly into the insect's face, striking without even the slightest reservations. The blast easily fried the Bug Pokemon, which fell unceremoniously to Esper's feet.

She continued to walk past the obviously ruined and destruction-wracked section of Viridian—the part that eventually petered out into pewter’s outskirts was looking bad, to say the least—it was like a band of locusts had raided the area she was in. feeling a vibration coming from her pocket, she then continued to walk forward, with Arashi by her side—and then read the message that had come from Leon. She could only hiss; was it just as bad on the opposite side of the forest? She then thought she heard a fluttering of wings—it didn’t sound like any kind of avian-type Pokemon, because this one was borderline on buzzing; if somewhat aggressively. She barely had time to look up and see that there was an aggressive-looking dragonfly circling her, attempting to get a jump on her!
“Ah crap, seriously?!” she hissed, and her Cyndaquil had noticed that there was an intruder, practically trying to invade his mistress’ personal space; before it began making a noise that was so unearthly, it caused her to cover her ears up. Ugh, stop making that loud noise… she thought with an angry hiss, before quickly dropping to her knees and rolling away, just to get away from the insistent buzzing sound that was emanating from the dragonfly. “Okay, Ara, try to be careful. Can you take out that flying thing with Flamethrower?” she asked, hoping that her Cyndaquil would pick up on the hint. “Cyn, cyn, cyndaquil!” she heard it growl, and watched as the little mouse took a deep breath, and just as the little creature came swooping low for another attack, a controlled blast of flames erupted from the Cyndaquil’s mouth.
“Try to keep it under control, we don’t want to burn this place to the ground…” she said, massaging her ears, for they were still ringing from the buzzing noise that the little dragonfly was making—and just as surprisingly, the little thing quickly summoned a barrage of rocks, which went whizzing towards the little fire-mouse! “Dodge and continue with the stream of fire!” she continued, watching as the rocks began homing in on Arashi—it made to move the first wave of projectiles, but the second had caught it by surprise; and it was thrown off-balance due to the surprise attack! “Cyndaquil!” she heard her companion cry out of surprise—and she knew that she had to step it up. “You know why I don’t want to use Lava Plume, it’ll start an actual forest fire! Try to hit it with Swift, before it comes—“she trailed off, watching as the little dragonfly came in dangerously close—it was attempting a Tackle attack!
Right at the moment the little fire-mouse took a deep breath and began firing off a stream of star-shaped projectiles, the little dragonfly attempted to continue with its kamikaze Tackle attack and met the stream of star-shaped projectiles full-on, but she was not going to stop here—she then continued, “Go on, try it one more time, Flamethrower, go!” she said, backing up slightly to give the little mouse more room to maneuver. Right after the last star-shaped particle left its maw, another steady stream of fire erupted from the Cyndaquil’s gaping jaw, and needless to say, the little dragonfly was cooked—and fell unconscious to the forest floor with burn and singe marks all over it.
“Come on, let’s go…” she said, hissing as she continued the hike deeper into the forest, her Cyndaquil keeping up and sniffing the air just in case things got nasty again…
Leon stared incredulously at their newest foe as he emerged from the bushes with all the burning fervor of a Rapidash galloping toward enemy lines in a glorious cavalry charge. Esper gave no more regard to the tiny larval Pokemon, whose green body may have acted as respectable camouflage had he not been so intent on lashing out at the much larger Trainer and his Pokemon. Yet he rushed them with a deadly thirst not often known by his species, and his red, two-pronged antenna turned tensed up in preparation for impact. However, even in the throes of hunger, Caterpie held no particular swiftness. Leon and Esper evaded his most desperate assault with little more than a slight shift in position. Moving to opposite sides, they stepped around the Caterpie's path and watched as he rocketed headlong into an especially thick treetrunk. Unfortunately yet predictably, it gave no ground to the charging insect, leaving little more than an uncomfortable silence as consequence for his furious Tackle.
"This is what's threatening Viridian Forest's ecosystem?" Leon asked of his Alakazam, who could only shrug his shoulders and raise a very taciturn eyebrow. "Mother Nature must be weaker than I thought. But," he said with a deep and pitying sigh, "I think maybe we should just ignore this one, huh?" Esper nodded sagely yet said nothing. Caterpie evolved young, and so common sense dictated that this one could not have been more than a couple years old. Neither Leon nor Esper had any intention of harming a child - especially not one with hunger as his only crime. Indeed, the Trainer, without so much as a second thought, shrugged off his backpack and rummaged through it for rations to spare on account of the poor bug. In all likelihood, he thought, the Caterpie was a mere victim of Viridian Forest's near-collapse, with other, foreign species bearing responsibility for its turmoil.
However, as Leon pulled the food from one of his bag's many pouches, a tough, wiry string wrapped about his legs and became taut with a very deliberate tug. Though it threw him off balance, Leon's great agility saw that he did not fall over from the sudden force, giving his Alakazam ample time to cut through the String Shot with his silver spoons. Of course, both knew the culprit as to be the green worm, and he now received their full attention. Already, he attacked with renewed vigor, acting on instinct and the need to stave off starvation. Even still, Leon did not wish to harm him, and Esper, despite a natural inclination to defend his partner, felt the same. "Give it a weak Signal Beam." He said cautiously, making sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that Esper understood his request and would give not a single spark more energy than was needed.
Even when holding back, of course, the crushing might of an Alakazam far outstripped even the most durable of Caterpie, whose fragile bodies stood as one of the weakest among all species. The green insect fainted immediately, despite holding special resistance to Bug-type attacks such as the bioluminescent ray shot from Esper's spoons. Leon, meanwhile, had already gotten to work pulling the strands of String Shot still clinging to his legs. Once finished, he approached his fallen assailant and checked to make sure he still breathed. The Trainer then set beside him a bit of food for when he woke up, left only with the hope that it would not be taken by one of the many predators currently lurking about the forest.
Leon felt a measure of comfort, however, when he saw a figure approaching amid the tree trunks and disheveled foliage. A moment's concentration revealed that it was, in fact, Izumi. "C'mon, Esper, let's get going." He said to his partner and waved to the raven-haired girl. "Hey, Izumi! Over here!"
