Now that she was pretty much down, and running dangerously low on Pokeballs, Izumi decided to make this one final trip count. Trudging all over the place would be a thing of the past now, because Sora had finally evolved into a Braviary; and had also picked up the move “Fly” along the way—which was extremely useful, especially for a traveler like herself. She then decided to try her luck one more time; by heading out to the area near the so-called “Rock Tunnel”; which was just past Cerulean City. Might as well make the most out of it, she thought as she began going through the wildly-changing terrain; before finally getting to the rougher parts. And after all I also need to cut down this extremely long wishlist… at least I’ve made good progress so far, she thought to herself as she began climbing the outside face of the Tunnel.
After a while, she came along a flat expanse of rock; which merely served as the “pavement” that led up to the actual entrance. Hoping that there were additional hidden paths, she began pawing along the side; before finally reaching an abandoned path that would up the side of the Tunnel; leading somewhere to its peak—and it was shrouded in mist, too; which made this all the more interesting. “Alright then,” she said, bracing her legs and beginning the ascent along that particular path, keeping her ears peeled for something that may just suddenly appear “from out of nowhere”…

As the mist began swirling around her, she could feel the actual area thickening with fog—was she really climbing up the side of the mountain face next to the Rock Tunnel? She then began to shiver; before quickly untying the jacket she’d tied around her waist and slinging herself into it; because it was just that damned cold up in this area! She then began looking around and was surprised to see that there was some form of illumination coming from not too far ahead; and she quickened her step, minding where she was stepping because the route was rocky and uneven in places. It didn’t look like the light source was moving, so she decided to take the stealthy approach on it; creeping up on it ever so slowly—and she then reached the point where the light source was; and the mist and fog cleared—showing a lone Pokémon, shivering in the cold.
She really wanted to try her hand at compassion; but the moment she stepped forward, it stopped shaking, before the flame on its tail lit up the area, dissipating the fog around it—and then it suddenly let rip with an attack, which made the surrounding area suddenly bright and sunny, revealing the portion of trail where she was located. Who knew that the light would be able to disperse the fog?! She thought, squinting as she saw the winding path, and trees—and the little thing, before it quickly spat out a powerful blast of fire headed in her direction! “Holy shi—“ she began, before quickly sending out one of her own ‘mons from a Pokeball; and then diving to the side as her ‘mon stood its ground—it was Nixe, her Prinplup; and she then screeched, “Nixe, Bubblebeam the blast of fire out of the way, now!”
“Priiiin!” she heard it cry out, and quickly as it could muster, a torrent of bubbles condensed together in a beam-like formation shot out of its mouth; meeting the blast of fire head-on. Something was wrong though—she knew that water could normally put out fire; but this was different—the Bubblebeam attack had evaporated even before it touched the fire! “What the hell’s happening?!” she shouted out of surprise; before switching tactics and then changing the direction of attack. “Screw that, Nixe, smack it with Signal Beam!” she shouted, watching as the titchy little thing readied itself to expel another blast of fire.
“Prin!” she heard her companion call out; before watching as it raised its flippers and watched a sinister-looking ball of energy spawn from within the area, which then shot towards the little creature at the same time it expelled the mighty blast of fire. She then squinted into the light; and was surprised to see that the aim of the mighty attack was off—and then the Signal Beam attack scored a direct hit to the little one’s body! She then grinned before continuing, “Now, move up close and ram it with your Drill Peck attack!” and watched as her Prinplup complied, before sending its entire body spiraling like a corkscrew, and closing the distance. In retaliation, the little one then bared its face in a grimace, which temporarily stunned the incoming water penguin, before taking another deep breath and attempting to shoot out another super-hot blast of flames.
It was unable to do so, as the Drill Peck attack had fully connected on its target, and the little one was sent bouncing off before skidding towards a tree; and then hitting it. The result was the usual swirly-eyed dizziness, but she wasn’t going to stop there, she then called out once more, “Nixe, use your Bubblebeam attack one more time!” and heard the affirmation because the sound of a blast of water emerging from something similar to a fire hose emerged—only it was made up of condensed bubbles held together in a beam-like shape. The little one was unable to retaliate and received the full blast head-on; after which Izumi took out one of her last remaining Pokeballs and then sent it flying towards the sprawled miniature “walking sun” as she called it, and hoped that it would come along with her…

As the Pokeball stopped shaking violently, she then watched it for a few moments before it disappeared—most likely taken to that nether space contained within her storage. She then grinned, before continuing forward—and at that point the sunlight faded, to be replaced once again by the gloom and doom of the local area. The mist and fog began to swirl around them once again; before she picked up the pace and continued up the mountain, Nixe trundling along right beside her, tugging at her pants’ hemline as they went up an increasingly steep incline. At one point she was forced to stop, quickly recalling Nixe back into her temporary residence, before ascending the incline on all fours—getting her clothes dirty in the process.
After some time, she then accidentally brushed against something, which then proceeded to toss a rock at her, striking her right in the rear! “Ouch! What the hell?!” she shouted from her new position, trying to squint through the fog to make out what had chucked the projectile. She then felt it strike her rear side again, and she quickly forced herself to keep moving, because there was no way in hell she was staying around to figure out what that was! She then hissed to herself as the thing in the shadows continued to pelt her with rocks, which struck her thighs, then rolled down to her legs—before her continued scrambling made her climb up some distance before slipping into another area. She felt the incline suddenly decrease, and realized she was now crawling on a flat surface… what was up ahead?

She was secretly relieved that Nixe was out, because there was another spot of illumination shining through the fog—and imagine her surprise when she finally approached it; she almost freaked out and climbed the nearest tree; because there was, quite literally, a living pool of lava that was inching along the ground! She noticed that the ground behind the “walking lava bubble” was scorched and burned; so she knew that she wasn’t dreaming—also, the lone volcano she knew of was all the way on Cinnabar island, so how did this thing get here?! “Ah shoot, seriously?” she hissed to herself, smacking a palm to her face out of annoyance, before waving Nixe forward.
“Nixe, you know what to do… don’t approach it, wear it down with Bubblebeam!” she said, issuing her next set of orders—simply because she knew that anything that could scorch the ground was dangerous and not to be approached directly. “Priiin!” she heard it chirp, before quickly inhaling—and then spewing forth a concentrated beam made of tightly-paced bubbles. She knew that she was jumping the gun here; but she did not mind; because a sudden blast of fire (that suspiciously looked like a Flamethrower attack) was suddenly headed Nixe’s way! The two attacks then collided at a midpoint, and steam then rose from the point of impact—then Izumi knew something was going to happen before she had enough time to duck!
Another terrific explosion shook the area; and this time another small crater resulted from the collision between water and fire—and Izumi was knocked over backwards yet again! “Why is this starting to become a familiar thing…” she trailed off, before issuing the same command once more—and Nixe let out another blast of bubbles; and this time the little “lava bubble” countered with something a bit more explosive—the ground suddenly turned warm; before what looked like molten lava erupted from the nearby surroundings! “What the hell!” she screeched, watching as the torrent of lava rained down all around her and Nixe as well—which sent her scrambling to find some untouched ground she could hide in. Nixe, however, stood her ground!
That looked awfully familiar… she thought as she blinked rapidly due to the steam rising off from he ground; it was adding to the fog, and hell it wasn’t pretty. “Go, Nixe! One more try! Unleash your Bubblebeam attack at full power!” she shouted, and Nixe obliged; inhaling deeply before unleashing the most powerful blast of beam-concentrated bubbles she’d seen in a while—and the little “lava cookie” attempted to counter with another Flamethrower attack, yet it was doused out and the blast of torrential water screamed down on it, drenching it completely and cooling it down—it had stopped in mid-crawl, offering her just enough time to chuck a Pokeball at it!
Come with me, come with me… she thought, watching as the rock-hard lava pool was absorbed in a flash of red light…

As the Pokeball that contained the lava pool eventually stopped quivering, she resisted the urge to jump up and down, screaming in delight—she then scooted over to pick up the sphere where it now rested, albeit knocked senseless; before watching it disappear; since she had a full team of six, there was nothing else to it—any and all subsequent captures ended up in the ‘storage’ compartment of her PC. She then sighed; and was about to go on looking when something caught her eye—was it a pig on steroids?!
She then blinked and whistled to catch Nixe’s attention; before eventually seeing that the thing was just… regarding them with something that she thought was scorn. Wondering what the heck it was that made said ‘mon look at her with such an ugly look on its face, she took one step forward—and that was all it took to send it into a furious rage! “Oh crap, are you kidding me?!” she shouted, barely having enough time to react as she quickly backed out of range as it began flailing its arms and attempting to swipe at the air. “Nixe, hold your ground, try to avoid its flailing arms and then close the distance with your Drill Peck attack!”
“Priiiin!” she heard her companion chirp, before it began to spin its body around—and then veering in close with its beak rotating much like a drill. Said wild monkey, on the other hand, attempted to come in dangerously close once more and then attempted to do something she’d seen human martial-arts practitioners do so many times—it aimed a Karate Chop straight in Nixe’s face! Both attacks connected at the same time; and all she could do was look away and attempt not to wince because that would have been painful, if two human people were doing it instead of two ‘mons. “Okay, Nixe… Nixe?! What happened?!” she screeched, seeing that her companion had fallen and now had swirlies in its eyes.
“Ah dang it, why must you ruin my day…” she trailed off, quickly taking out Nixe’s Pokeball and then summoning it back in a flash of red light—before quickly pulling out a Repel spray and quickly activating it; letting the mist swirl all around her; making her getaway in the process as well. Hell I have a lot of these, then why not use them… she thought, hoping that something else would come out of this last-second attempt at something good…

So after her quick getaway, she was surprised to see that she’d come across something she’d secretly been denying that was “cute”; but who knew that Izumi had a liking for fluffy things? She then looked and rummaged through her pockets; before seeing that she was finally down to one last Pokeball. Ah drat it, I’m out of supplies… she thought with a groan as she saw the cute little pink thing waddling towards where she was, looking oh so fluffy and bright. Okay, here goes… first try to make it come along with me… she thought as she crouched down, and then began whistling softly.
At first, her song was tuneless—but after a bit, she decided to pick up on one of the “whistle commands” she’d been using with Riku; to see if this little one would notice. The notes hung pure and clear on the air—for it was a mountain song she was whistling; one she’d heard from way back in Lavaridge. The old grannies back home loved to tell tales, and this was one of the tunes they used whenever they would signal for everyone to gather around and listen to what they were going to be sharing for that day.
“Cleffa?” she heard the thing speak, and it almost sent her squealing over the edge; it was just to cute to fight with—much less bludgeon it senseless! She hen remembered her talk with her mentor, Claire—this was one of the rarer cases where she’d try to catch something without actually lifting a finger… and she continued whistling the tune of Summoning, slightly modified to make it more appealing to what she identified as a Cleffa in front of her. “Cleff, cleffa?” she heard it ask once more, and she kept up the whistling tune—before it abruptly ended; since that was the apparent end of said tune. “Would… would you want to come along with me? I… I know someone who can make better music than I can… I’m sorry if I had run out of tunes to whistle,” she said apologetically, extending her hand with the Pokeball in it towards the Cleffa—it then sniffed at the said sphere, before it accidentally nudged it, and it popped open in a flash of red light!
“Oops,” was all she had to say, watching as the small pink fluffy creature was swallowed in the beam of light; and she then began to stare at the said ball, which was twitching and shaking madly.

As she watched the Pokeball shake and twitch like mad in her hands, she then heard the satisfying ‘click’ which signified that the capture attempt was successful! She then grinned; before watching the little sphere vanish, to eventually end up in her PC storage. Izumi then sighed, before realizing one extremely important factor: she’d run out of Pokeballs to catch wild ‘mons with! Groaning, as she began digging around in her wallet she then hoped that she had enough dots to go around… when she suddenly remembered that she had storage full of weird, random items she’d bought on the spur of the moment.
Realizing that she could break up these packs as necessary, she then whistled to herself as she turned tail, and headed back down the same path she came—almost having difficulty skidding down the same route she’d almost climbed up before! Ah well, time to try my luck with the evil gods of doom again. Hope I get lucky… she thought as she skidded and slid down the slippery, foggy terrain, making headway back to Cerulean City and making eventual plans for whatever lay in store for her in the near, foreseeable future. Oh well, who knows I may get lucky this time around…
