It had been a very long while ever since she’d set foot in the Safari Zone—what with the sudden price increase of the Tags required in order to be able to get in the actual area. She was wondering if her weird luck would be following her around; and after going through the usual mandatory pat-down and checking if she was smuggling in anything illegal (why would she do such a thing) she was then cleared, and gained access to the Safari Zone area once more. she didn’t know that she’d entered from a different side—and was surprised to see that this time, the environs that she’d stumbled upon were that of a marshy, boggy area.
Eww, maybe I should have changed into my better boots… she thought with a cringe of disgust; before deciding to just trudge through the muck, in search of something interesting. Hopefully, this trip would result in her shortening her wish list somewhat—as the Unova section of it was already reduced down to something more manageable than the previous time she’d last laid her eyes on it. She then heard something pitter-pattering across the surface of the water; and turned around in slow-motion to check where the source of the noise was coming from. Holding her breath, she then reached one of her hands into her pockets; waiting to pull out one of her six cohorts and send them out to engage in battle; if necessary.

It was as if irony was playing tricks with her once again—this time, something that she’d already seen back in one of the Unova gyms decided to make an appearance—at least, the pre-evolved version of it. Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, she then saw that it was a Fire-type simian, and it was munching on what looked like a Berry. Although she couldn’t tell which Berry it was eating, she watched it as it quickly expelled a blast of fire from its tufted tail and roasated said Berry, before popping it into its mouth. Sadly, she wasn’t in the market for this particular simian, and she sighed; continuing to watch as it seemingly plucked more Berries from underwater and roasted them before eating the burnt treat.
Ugh, nope. Pass. She thought as she finally managed to turn her back on the sight (even if it was so cute) and continued on into the Safari Zone, hoping to run across something that was worth her salt (and visit) that would make up for another part of the “army” she was currently constructing. She knew that at times, her luck would troll her—yet at other times it would eventually play with her and just go along with her whims. Apparently, today was one of the “meh” days, wherein anything could happen. She then trudged through the watery area, before hearing another rustling noise. She then slowed her pace and turned around, as if in slow motion, to look for the source of the sound…

She was about to ready the Safari Ball when she saw what it was… didn’t Cilan have one of these… she thought incredulously, before muttering a few swear words under her breath and looking at the sky. It was another monkey; and this time it was of the green coloration; it was similar to the one she’d seen earlier—although it wasn’t as resourceful as the other one, it seemed to be similar in build and girth. Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, she began fiddling around in her bag, just in case she needed to resort to getting the Repel spray out and preparing herself for the worst.
Now if they toss Cress’ simian at me then I swear today is not a good day to be in the Safari Zone… she thought with a visible cringe as she turned away from the innocent-looking monkey and continued to pick her way through the Safari Zone. She then wondered if entering from a particular direction affected the…creatures that wandered across her path; and she continued to wade through the area; before finally freeing herself from the muck and stumbling out onto solid ground. She then looked down at her shoes and saw that the area up to a midway point from her knees was dripping mud…
“Eww, gross. Man these shoes are…” she trailed off, smacking a palm to her forehead, grumbling at how much washing and scrubbing she’d need to do once she got out of the area… that was if she managed to find something worth her while in this trip. She then heard the area near her shiver and shake, and she turned her head around to check out what had caused the noise…

Izumi was secretly relieved to see that it wasn’t Cress’ simian, but something that looked like an innocent turtle that was just learning how to navigate… it was too cute, but sadly, she was looking for its counterpart from the Unova region. She couldn’t help but walk over to it though, because from what she could tell it was still young, and didn’t know how to get too far. “You need some help?” she began, moving over and crouching so that she was on a closer level with this little one. “You want to go over there?” she continued, pointing over to the surface of the water—the muck where she’d come from.
“Tir, tirtouga? Tir?” she heard it…croak. Even if she didn’t understand what the hell it just said, she noticed that it was attempting to flap its fins in a very excited manner, which she took for a “yes”. “Don’t worry, I’m not going to hurt you, okay? Just hang on tight…” she said, slowly approaching the small turtle and gently reaching out to hold it. “Come on, you’ll be safe here,” she continued, urging the little thing to come forward. It did inch forward tentatively, before launching itself into her open hands; wherein she quickly stood up and then moved as close as she could gget to one of the safer areas of the muck—without falling in herself.
“You wanted to go swimming?” she asked, before setting it down in the water with a splash—it sunk for a moment, before its head bobbed up from the murk, and then waved one of its fins in thanks. “Tir, tirtouga!” she heard it say once more, splashing her with water; before turning tail and leaving to go on a journey of its own. Awww, so cute… I’ve been staying too long here… she thought as she quickly straightened herself once more and then going in another direction, her fingers crossed and hoping for the best. Better get the spray ready… she thought, secretly cringing…

She’d gone off in a different direction when she heard the grass rustle not too far from where she was standing. Keeping her hopes up, she was about to get ready for battle… when another unusual creature appeared! Wait a second… what!? She thought, her mind literally freezing over. She was just about ready to flip the nearest tree over; because what the heck was this thing… she could only groan, and quickly shuffled around in her backpack for another bottle of Repel, and hoped for the best—because to be honest, this trip to the Safari Zone was certainly not one of her best. She then quickly activated the spritz section of the canister, and watched as a fine mist shot out from the nozzle—and she then continued to stare on as the said mist enveloped the entirety of her person.
You have seriously got to be kidding me!!! Went through her mind as the mist rose higher and higher, hiding and obscuring her from sight—because seriously; what kind of natural freak disaster decided to toss some of the weirdest ‘mons her way? Why was her luck turning sour? She didn’t want to leave empty-handed… and besides, Christmas was around the corner, so why wasn’t her luck cooperating with her?! Please give me a Mudkip, please give me a Mudkip… hell even if it’s a Squirtle or a Totodile I don’t care, as long as it’s one of the Water-type starters that I don’t have yet… Mudkip, Midkip, Mudkip… she thought, forcing herself to be brave and not to burst out crying, because life was being unfair to her lately…

She was all about keeping her hopes up when she heard the grass rustle. Keeping her fingers crossed, she hoped for the best… and then almost screamed out of annoyance when she saw which ‘mon she’d come across—it was one o those weird-looking things! Shit, maybe I should’ve just gone with that cute little turtle earlier… she thought out of rage, finding the nearest tree and then punching it out of annoyance. It was lucky that she didn’t have any of her ‘mons out, most especially Momo—for she’d have flipped her own as well. Sighing, she then decided to try and catch this little one; sending out Arashi, her Cyndaquil, in a flash of red light. “Cynda, Cyndaquil???” it asked, looking around, as if about to see its mother once again. Izumi then cleared her throat and said, “Sorry, she’s not here… but I want you to get some practice down. Is that okay with you?” she asked, crouching down and looking at her own fire-maned mouse straight in the eye.
“Cynda…quil. Cyndaquil!” she heard it growl, before turning its attention at the thing that was grazing nearby. “Whatever this is, it has to be worth something worthwhile…” she muttered to herself, before clearing her throat and then issuing the first set of commands, “Now, Arashi… go use your Flamethrower attack! I know that it may not work, but hell we got to start somewhere, right?” she added, and watched as her Cyndaquil took a deep breath; before expelling a blast of super-hot fire that was racing down towards where the Shieldon was grazing—it wasn’t expecting the attack, and was sent flying due to the super-hot flames. “Now, try it again Arashi, one more time, Flamethrower!” she added—but this time, the grazing ‘mon was ready; and it apparently braced itself for whatever was going to be thrown its way.
As the wash of heated flames danced over its body, it was trembling, but it was still holding its ground—Izumi didn’t know what attack it had used, but after the roaring flames died away, it was still standing, albeit very scorched and smoking. She then tried it once again—“Go on Arashi, this time use Lava Plume!” and at the mention of it, quickly took cover because since it had the word ‘lava’ in it, it was going to be very… explosive. “Cynda…QUIL!!!” she heard her ‘mon cry out, and a blast of scorching-hot flames erupted from its back (and seemingly around it), before turning the battlefield into something out of a volcano. She could practically smell he ground getting burned from her vantage point—and this time, it looked like the other ‘mon had used another defensive move—but it wasn’t enough to defend itself from the flames, and due to the abrupt change in temperature, it flopped over.
She then stepped out of hiding—and tossed the lone Safari Ball she had with her; hoping for the best as she watched the extremely battered ‘mon disappear into it with a flash of red light…

Izumi then watched as the Safari Ball stopped twitching, and knew that she had officially caught this… weird-looking thing. Not wishing to admit to herself that her Safari Trip this time was a complete waste, she then picked up the Safari Ball and then looked over in Arashi’s direction. “Good job there,” she said, crouching down and reaching to pet the little fire-maned mouse’s snout, before shuffling around for the Pokeball that housed him, and recalled him in a flash of red light. She then hoped that she would be able to sell off this creature that she’d caught, because honestly—what had happened to her luck these past few days; why was it dwindling and turning absolutely sour? How am I going to fill out my roster if I keep getting shitty stuff? She thought as she quickly turned heel and walked back towards the entrance.
She then sighed, making a silent resolve not to venture near the Safari Zone in the next few days—and to wait for the luck to turn in her favor once again. She’d just gotten word that Tom had encountered a Shinx in his hunt, and that it would be hers—once he’d caught it and they’d met up again at the usual place for the exchange of information. Hmm, maybe I should hunt for a Azurill while I’m at it… she thought to herself as she made her way to the entrance, and out of the area, cursing her horrible luck for that particular trip.
