Now that she’d decided to stop over in Unova before continuing on to Sinnoh and staying there for the remainder of the holiday season, she decided to get started on her extremely long wish list. She noticed that she had a particular bias for her home region, Hoenn, and quite surprisingly, this one she was in right now—Unova. “Now that I’m here, why don’t I get some catching done?” she mused to herself, making sure that she had enough Pokeballs on her person before venturing out towards Chargestone Cave, where some of her Unova Wish List ‘mons lived and basically haunted the place. The closer she got to the cave, the more she felt the hairs on the back of her nape prickle and stand up on all end—what was causing that to happen? She then looked around and saw that she was outside the cave; and bracing herself for whatever waited inside, took a deep breath and stepped into the gloom.
It was immediate—the moment she went inside the strangely humming cave; she felt the static crackling in the air around her; and her hair—which was normally tied behind her in a ponytail—began standing up on end. “Whoa, whoa, what the hell?!” she said to herself, quickly flattening her hair against her head, and looking around. Come on, I need you three to appear… don’t disappoint me, okay? She thought to herself as she trudged inside, taking careful care not to break out into a run because the floor was apparently emitting static electricity as well. Bracing herself, she reached into her pocket and secured her hands around one of the six temporary residences she had with her—and although she had no idea whose Pokeball she was holding, she hoped for the best—and then heard a crackling sound, followed by rustling. Where is that coming from… she thought as she looked around warily, being very careful not to get jumped on…

As she began her tromping though the blue-hued cave, something flopped from out of the shadowy corner where she was headed… and she didn’t like the sight of it, it looked like some sort of mud fish! “Fisk, fisk, stuuuunfisk,” she heard it chant as it went on its merry way and hopped along the electrically-charged floor of the cave. She could feel her flesh crawl at the sight; why did it look like it had been squashed—no, wait, stepped on? She sighed, before clenching and unclenching her fists and then slipping out of its line of vision as quickly and as quietly as possible. There was no way in hell she was having that mud fish with her, even if it was… flopping?!
She then shook her head and continued to clench and unclench her fists, hoping that her next find would be something more… worthwhile. She then began whistling a ditty as she made her way around a corner; and saw that there were various levitating rocks in the area. She then nudged one of them, and saw that they traveled a brief distance before hitting some kind of larger rock—and she was amazed at the sight; what had caused the rocks to float above the ground and take on the bluish hue… and then she felt her ears prickle as she cautiously looked around; there was no way she was sending out any of her cohorts unless it was for a good reason. Holding her breath, she then began sneaking towards the source of the noise as quietly as her sneakers would allow…

After shuffling through the humming cave, she very nearly missed the next ‘mon that had appeared—and this time it was giving off a scary vibe. What is it with all these ‘mons, why the hell are they levitating? She thought to herself as she quickly grasped the one Pokeball she’d been turning over and over in her pocket ever since she’d come in to the cave, and said, “Okay, you can show yourself now,” and watched as the flash of red light coalesced and formed into Momo, who began to twirl and spin at her sight. “Momo, you see that thing over there? Let’s get him!” before quickly switching to ‘Commands’ mode. “Momo, go use your Calm Mind status increase first, and then follow it up with Confusion right away!” she declared, quickly skidding backwards in order to give her Kirlia more room to maneuver. “Kirlia, kirlia, ki!” came the reply from her ‘mon, and then it was as if everything had gone silent—yet she knew that the status increase move had been activated.
At the same time, the levitating ‘mon was seemingly glowering at it; though she had no idea that it had given Momo this very…. Enthralling look, which meant she couldn’t be switched out—nor they could run for the battle. She then heard its voice, and it was like listening to the cries of the dead, “Yamask, yamask, yamask… mask?!” it chanted before abruptly getting cut off as Momo quickly materialized the blob of psychic energy from out of thin air, and sent it towards the ‘mon that had a very strange… face! “Oh my shi—“ she began, finally realizing what the golden-looking thing beneath it was; it looked like a human face! “Momo, try and smack it with Magical Leaf, and then do Confusion again!”
“Ki!” she replied, before twirling on the spot—and then she could feel the general aura of the area shifting around once more; what had it attacked with this time?! She then watched as the leaves that had materialized suddenly screamed through the air, heading towards the little floating ‘mon that was starting to scare her… but I can most certainly use you… she thought, just in case Rachen (her Gastly) didn’t evolve fast enough. She then watched as this time, Momo began to shudder; then dark energy wailed around her; before she started spinning faster and faster out of fright! “Momo, do it! Send your Confusion attack, now,” she called out, and she broke free of the dark energy and then sent another lump of psychic-powered energy in its direction; and this was the time Izumi’s other hand made an appearance, holding a Pokeball; and she quickly tossed it towards the floating face, watching as it vanished in a flash of red light and the ball fell to the ground, shaking…

After successfully hearing the ‘click’ noise, which meant catching the levitating ghost “without a face”, Izumi (and Momo) almost very nearly missed the next ‘mon that appeared; as it was very small. However, though, this titchy-sized tadpole was very interesting—it could evolve into a powerful fish that apparently looked like a Water-type, but was quite shockingly, an Electric-type; and was even more vexing to eradicate because it was apparently immune to Ground-type moves. Grinning at this very fantastic prospect, she then nodded in Momo’s direction, before bringing out her temporary residence and making the elegant Emotion ‘mon disappear in a flash of red light. In another burst of red light, a blue-and-black quadruped appeared; it was Riku, her Deino. They were going up against some very interesting challenges lately; but they were working on smoothing out the kinks, and she then whistled his special tune; which made him look over to her general direction—at least they were both aware of the possibilities of communication via sound.
“Riku, I want you to get ready with your Dragonbreath attack, and then switch over at once to a Bite attack, okay?” she called out, getting another spherical capturing device ready and bracing herself for what was to come. With some shuffling, she heard the little ‘dragon’ growl in reply, “Dei, deino!” before taking a deep breath and mustering up its energy; in preparation for the Dragonbreath attack it was going to launch. The little tadpole regarded them with an imperial look, as if it was the boss and these two were just servants, and was just about ready to toss some electrically-charged attacks when it was rudely interrupted by the blast of energy that came from Riku’s gaping maw! Grinning, she knew that it was caught; but then she saw its small body light up with electricity as it came in for what looked like an electrified attack—which was Spark!
“Evasive maneuvers, Riku, then go do your thing. Bite it!” she called out, quickly bracing herself for the shocking explosion of sparks that slammed against her Deino’s body, but he seemingly brushed it off since she knew he was a part-Dragon type. After shrugging off most of the force of the attack, Riku sank its sharp fangs into the little ‘mon’s body; but it immediately retaliated with another blast of electricity—right in its mouth! “Deino, dei!!!” she heard it growl as it took the little tadpole’s Charge beam attack full on in the mouth, and Izumi shrieked out anther command, “Riku, counter with Headbutt, quickly!” and watched as the battle tides changed; since her ‘mon was in extreme close proximity, it then lowered its head and then swung with all its might, causing the little tadpole to fly off some distance—and then saw it shudder.
“Go on Riku, Dragonbreath again!” she added, holding out her hand as she watched the titchy, little tenacious thing quickly come in for what looked like a Tackle attack—and it took the blast of energy in full force, and watched as it flopped over to the ground—and this was where Izumi quickly let the next Pokeball fly out of her hands; watching as it opened and swallowed up the little battered tadpole in a flash of red light and fall to the ground, watching as it rocked from side to side…

After watching the red ball shake, and finally stop, she then dashed over to it and scooped it up—but not before whistling Riku’s “calling” tune and watched as the blue-and-black quadruped scampered over, and she then gave him a pat on the head. “Good job, Riku. Definitely a good job,” she said with a grin, before realizing that there was another creature that trundled into their—technically, her—line of sight, wishing to curse to the heavens out of frustration, she growled as she quickly searched her pockets for a can of Repel, and held it at the ready—there was no way in hell she was getting that thing; because for one thing, it reminded her of these things called ‘golems’ that she’d read about (and no, they were not related to the Pokemon of the same name) and that was just… downright creepy.
Whistling the four-tune note once again as she quickly activated the Repel spray, watching the mist spritz out all around her and the rushing Deino that wanted to be beside his mistress as they were… going around? She then hissed in his direction, “Stay with me, let’s hope this last encounter would turn up something good… man I am not a fan of weird things—no offense, though,” she amended quickly, and Riku gave a growl in reply, “Deino, deino, dei. Deino?” she heard it say, keeping up with her as they ran through the cave; and noticeably the blue glow was getting dimmer… what the hell was going on?! “Riku, keep an eye out, I think I can sense something bad about to happen…” she trailed off, shivering as the blue glow lessened in hue and intensity. What part of the cave was she going to end up in? She shivered as she went around the next corner, holding her breath…

Right after she’d activated the can of spray, she heard a crackling noise—and this time saw that there was a bug. Well, it’s not the candle I was looking for, but what the hell, who cares. I need diversity… she thought as she whistled her “call” that made Riku scurry over to her front and then heard; “Deino, deino. Deino!” coming from it, before bracing itself as he made his stand, as if protecting her. The little yellow fuzz ball, on the other hand, seemed to have plans… and then seemingly mocked it with a Screech attack; the sound was so bad Izumi was forced to clamp her hands over her ears out of surprise! Of course, since Riku’s most-developed sense was its hearing, it also recoiled a few steps back, before Izumi took up her position again, removing her hands from her ears for a moment to issue her order.
“Well, let’s go! Riku, use this!” she began, before whistling something that sounded like a sprightly ditty; and Riku knew what it meant; he then charged forward, his head lowered and braced for the impact that it would make. The little yellow creature, in retaliation, quickly bared its fangs and lunged towards the incoming Deino, screeching, “Tik, tik, tik, Joltik! Jol!” and proceeded to launch what looked like a biting attack—yet Riku’s head was much faster, if but for a few milliseconds. The little yellow bug caught the full force of the attack head-on, and was sent recoiling some distance away, before it let loose with the horrible screeching noise again. Her hands automatically went to her ears the moment the unearthly sound rent the air, and this time she took a breath and whistled the mournful elegy; which was meant for Riku to understand on his own terms- and he quickly took a deep breath and gathered energy; whereas the little Joltik (from what she could tell, due to the sounds it was making) prepared to unleash a powerful attack—as there was electricity racing around it.
“Deino, DEINO!!!” she heard Riku seemingly roar, releasing the built-up draconic energy from its gaping mouth; whereas the little bug unleashed a powerful blast of electricity (it didn’t look like a Thunderbolt to Izumi) and she literally ran for cover behind a rock as the flash of lightning lit up the entire area—and the Dragonbreath attack smacked the Joltik’s face head-on; yet Riku was not without injuries as well. She could her blue-and-black quadruped trembling, as if trying to force itself to stand up—and at the same time the little bug flopped over, knocked out due to the force of the attack that Riku had unleashed on him. “Okay, come on over here now,” she said, picking up another empty Pokeball and letting it fly towards the fallen Joltik’s direction. She was apparently on a roll today, wonder why that was—as she watched the circular device open up and swallow the bug in a flash of red light, and then watched as it began to tremble and shake…

As she heard the ‘click’ noise, she looked up and saw that the Pokeball she’d tossed had finally stopped fidgeting—which meant that she was now in possession of another ‘mon; that would serve as good back-up if in case she ran short. All she needed to do now was to watch out for the type differences with her own army and her opponents’… as if that was easy in the first place! And knowing that some ‘mons have dual-typing, man this is going to be a pain in the rear to cram into my head… lucky I have the trusty notepad with me… she thought as she walked over and quickly scooped up the Pokeball and then whistled Riku’s ‘summoning call’ which made him trot over to her side; she then crouched down and then gave him a good pat on the head.
“Good job. Now, we resume training again at the same time and place, just you and me… okay?” she said, giving him praise where it was due; he did a good job in this instance. Quickly picking out Riku’s temporary residence (a Pokeball that had seemingly ‘realistic’ slash marks drawn into the white part of the surface) she then pressed the button and recalled him in a flash of red light; before turning heel and then finding her way back up, and out, of the cave—her hair standing up on end the higher she climbed, before bursting back out into the sunlight beyond Chargestone Cave.
