Izumi was about to burst out crying and potentially embarrass herself in front of a friend she’d just had the liberty of hanging out with—when what he did next was quite surprising; because she then found herself in a hug; something that she hadn’t experienced in a long while! The overwhelming feeling was too much, and she finally broke down, sobbing on Josh’s shoulder—and if he listened, she was still sharing the rest of what had happened. “I never thought I’d… I’d get the chance to share this with someone who would listen. It’s been on my shoulders for a while, and… and—“ she trailed off, sniffling as she tried to regain her composure, but it all came tumbling out anyways—“…it’s been eating away at me for some time now. That’s why… that’s why I now want to become stronger,” she continued, taking a deep breath, in order to attempt to control her crying. After a few moments of silence, she then gave him another ruffle atop his head, and then continued with what she was holding in for so long a time.
“You know, I… I find it strange that I can hold my own against wild Pokémon, but against other people… well, I’ll admit I suck so bad at battling, hence my journey to get stronger. Even if I do win against someone else, it’s by luck or other circumstance,” she continued, finally getting the urge to wipe her eyes with her other hand—she’d also subtly noticed that he had taken her other hand in his, and for once she didn’t let go of it; because in all honesty it was comforting to have someone listen to all the pent-up emotions she’d been keeping bottled in for the longest time. “Gosh, I’m so sorry,” she said after another short moment of silence, finally sitting down beside Josh again; though she didn’t let go of the other hand that was still holding on to her own underwater, “…I just had to let it all out. Now that I have, I… I feel better. Also, I wanted to say something about what the scientists in your region were up to… they’re crazy for messing with something that shouldn’t be messed with in the first place. Science, messing with what’s natural, growing in the wild? They’re… they’re out of their minds,” she continued, staring up at the sky now.

(Damn, lost the first version of this post)
He sighed and held her close as she started crying. He smiled a bit as he allowed Izumi to relax onto his shoulder, letting her speak her story as he gently rubbed her back in some attempt to comfort her, and playing with her hair just a bit to see how that might work in cheering her up, teasing her a tad as he had been before in the casual flirting. "Hey... It's alright" he said quietly as he relaxed against her. "I understand... I don't know how I'd be able to handle holding something like that in for so long" he said, smiling. "If you need someone to talk to, Izumi, I'm always here. You know that" he comforted.
He raised an eyebrow at the hair ruffle, but he'd played with hers and hugged her so he didn't say anything. He then chuckled at her her next statement. "I have the same problem" he admitted. "Really, I'm just fine with wild Pokemon... I've got myself quite the little collection now from that. But... Trainer Battles... Ehh... Not so much. And I won't bother battling you because judging by your team, you'd smoke me" he said with a laugh. "I need to build up my team before I can really do anything, Trainer battle-wise"
Once she sat back down, he smiled and sat beside her, relaxing in the water. He noticed she hadn't let go of his hand, which he didn't mind. He smirked and squeezed it to reassure her that it was alright, lacing his fingers between hers a little tighter. He knew she needed it right now. Her next statement though, made him look over at her. He sighed, and nodded. "Aye..." he said quietly. "They were. And they did even more of it when they tried to prepare new Trainers. They... Messed with Vulcan's egg and when he was just a baby, messed with his genetic code so he had no chance of infection. They did it before they gave him to me. That's why he looks different" he explained.

Now I feel like a fool, completely and utterly embarrassing myself in front of you. But eh, as long as you’re fine with it, I don’t mind… were the thoughts running through Izumi’s head as she settled down again, beside Josh. I dunno… chilling with him feels so… so natural. As opposed to back then… now that I’ve got it out of my system, I think I can sleep better tonight… she continued musing to herself; her ears perking up at the mention of what had happened to his Torchic—no, correction, it was now a Combusken. “Well, they made ‘im shiny, that’s for sure. Also… seeing differently-colored Pokémon here is a normal thing… I know some people who have differently-colored companions with them. I... just happen to have one myself. No, wait, a few of them are strangely-colored too,” she added, her thoughts flashing to that cute, adorable storm cloud-colored Torchic and her own Gardevoir; who for some reason had suddenly become shiny, without any explanation whatsoever.
At the mention of her team, she chuckled. “Well, I may be good at battling wild ones like you are, but against other people… you can say that it’s luck, or some other crazy manifestation of it that’s helping me so far. If you know about the Slateport mini-tournament, I’ve… decided to try my luck there. Gotten pretty far now, just waiting for the next few rounds to begin. I dunno if my luck will hold out. I sure hope it would,” she added with a dry chuckle, before sighting that there was a tub that had seemingly appeared there. “Oh, hey, look, the actual floating mini-tub is here,” she remarked, quickly pivoting around and reaching for it—it was just beyond her field of vision, and with a splash, said tub was now floating in the water. “Looks like they left us two. One with bathing materials, some bath salt… and…oh, gosh are they serious?!” she stammered, finally seeing the contents of the other one. “They… they left us some drinks. I hope you have some tolerance for alcohol…” she added with a chuckle, quickly sending the second floating tub over to where he was.

He nodded a bit. "Shiny Pokemon, back where I was from, were completely un-seeable. That artificial color change is the only way that they'll be shiny there. They've never seen a wild one there" he said, taking a breath. "If it weren't for the vaccine being so fucking expensive, tons of Trainers would have shinies. I'd have probably vaccinated my other ones that I brought with me to Hoenn, but I couldn't afford it. Which... Is bad. Considering I've had some close calls and almost lost my own Pokemon several times" he admitted. "It's one of the reasons I'm so close to Lightning, besides the fact he was a baby when I found him and saved him. We've had close calls since where I've almost lost him, and I've never let him out of my sight since"
He raised an eyebrow as she brought out the other tub and.... Alcohol? "Huh..." he said. "Not sure, I don't drink much but... I guess we could try" he said with a laugh as he took a bottle.

“Apparently, the staff who are running the hot springs have told me that drinking a few shots while bathing is suppose to be fun…though I’ve heard stories from the old ladies saying that whenever someone breaks out the alcoholic drinks in the hot springs, drinking games tend to start running… it’s an old tale I heard from the grannies here, they know lots of things that even young people like me are kinda surprised to hear from them…” she trailed off with a nervous chuckle, before looking in the second tub (the first one was floating idly by Josh, and that one contained the special bath salts that they could have dropped in earlier—but the tub was delivered a bit late) and then seeing that it was a ceramic flask, and there were two shallow dishes in the floating tub as well. “I can only guess what this is…” she trailed off, taking a sniff; before placing it back in the tub before continuing, “…it’s definitely not beer, because beer has this distinctive aroma.”
Deciding to throw caution to the winds, Izumi then took the ceramic flask into her hands before shaking it gently—she heard the sloshing of liquid inside before placing it back in the tub; and then took one of the dishes with her fingers, casually scooping up the other piece and handing the extra one to Josh. “Guess there’s a first time for everything, is there…” she added with another nervous grin on her face, before pouring herself enough to fill up the shallow dish close to the brim and then holding the bottle in preparedness. “Cheers, then?” she said with a grin as she raised the shallow drinking dish and then tipped it back, feeling the liquid rush down her throat—it was definitely not beer; then the realization hit her—it was something else! “Oh boy. I think I know what it is,” she said, smacking her lips a few moments later. “If you know about rice wine, then… this is it,” she said with another chuckle, pouring herself another serving. “It’s not as strong as beer, and there’s this slightly sweet hint of it in the liquid…” she added with another chuckle, nudging him to go ahead and try it!

Josh couldn't help but laugh a bit at that. After that though, he realized what he had grabbed was the wrong thing, putting it down in favor of the thing he was ACTUALLY SUPPOSED TO drink out of.
He laughed a bit then. "Cheers he said as he took a long drink. Whew, that was.... Wow. That was alcohol, huh? He didn't know how to describe it. He chuckled a bit, it was sweet and he felt really happy for some reason. "Huh..." he said. At her explaining, he nodded a bit. "Rice wine huh? Don't mind if I do!" he responded as the blonde pounded another helping of the liquid down his throat. Hopefully this wouldn't end badly...

She was quite surprised to see that he was game with actually drinking the rice wine—and he’d even made a passing comment about its flavor. “Now, for the life of me I cannot figure out what exact brew this is… I used to know much of what these were, but I forgot about it when I started my journey. Now I want to earn it all over again,” she chuckled, pouring him another serving of the alcohol. She now had both hands free; because her other hand was holding her own drinking dish, and the liquid was dangerously close to the rim. “Bottoms up,” she added with a chuckle, knocking back the next serving that she’d poured for herself. Was it because of the drink she was becoming more and more… bold? Daring? Who knew what effects the drink would have on them both—but for the moment, she was still thinking clear as day.
“Let me guess… you never got the chance to drink back in your old region, eh?” she asked, waiting for him to knock down the serving she’d poured for him earlier. “Let me tell you, you’re missing out on a lot. It’s a good thing you got a fresh start over here, because from the way you described what happened where you lived before… having fun wasn’t exactly part of the day-to-day interactions… was it?” she continued, pouring herself yet another serving of the alcoholic drink and then knocking it down in yet another go. As they said, don’t sip it, drink it in one shot… she thought to herself, leaning forward again and settling back down against the “wall” that formed the hot spring’s “pool” area. “Should I dump in the bath salt now, or just leave it alone until later?” she asked a few moments later, watching the other tub float lazily along the surface of the water.

He shrugged at her musings about the brew. "I'm not quite sure myself" he said. "Guess we'll just have to find out, won't we?" he jipped with a chuckle as she poured another one. He smirked and took it afterword. "Bottoms up" he responded as he knocked back the second helping without much issue. He didn't seem to be bothered at all about what the drinks might cause, but he hoped it wouldn't be too bad. He was thinking alright for now, at least.
"Nope" he said with a laugh to her question. "Yeah... Having fun wasn't really something you could do when you spent every single day fighting for your life, Zuzu" he admitted, sighing. He poured another one in response to her doing so and knocked it back. The talking about his past again made him want to drink even more, it seemed. He settled beside her and sighed, looking over at her. "Eh, I don't care, do whatcha want" he said with a smirk at her question.

Izumi then snatched the other tub that had floated past her and then took a look at the satchel of bath salts that was provided for them. “Hmmm…” she trailed off into silence, looking at the packaging. “Normally they should’ve delivered this before we got here, but seeing as we’re already in the water… oh well, here goes,” she said with a chuckle, untying the sash that held the satchel shut, and then pouring out the crystalline salt into the water… where upon contact with the liquid, the solid then hissed and crackled, before fizzling and melting into the liquid. It then took a while before the scent of something that smelled sharp and clean, like mint, wafted through the area. “Ahhh, never thought they’d give us the mint mix. This one’s one of the best,” she added, quickly grabbing a sponge and then lathering her legs underwater. “It has some sort of… youthful effect on the skin, from what I heard the old grannies talking about it before,” she added, scrubbing first her left, then her right foot.
Normally they should have brought soap in, but the water was just to “tenderize” their skin before actually leaping out of the hot springs and then heading towards the shower to actually clean up; the minty odor then wafted through the premises, causing her to inhale quite deeply. “Man, this smells good,” she continued, now lathering the sponge over her legs and then up her arms. “It’s best to let your skin soak up the minerals in the water before heading over to the shower itself and rinsing off… but then again…” she trailed off, dropping the sponge into the other tub and then reaching for the ceramic container and pouring herself another helping. “At least we’re still pretty sane,” she added with a grin, before clinking her drinking dish against his, and then downing it again in one go. Who knew that she could drink at this rate?!

Josh peeked over as Izumi snatched the other tub and looked curiously at what the hell was even in it. "Hmm... I suppose. But let's see how things go" he said after she spoke. Better late then never, right? As the air around them changed, and it smelt quite good, he smirked and relaxed, closing his eyes as he laid back in the water. "Damn, that does smell good" he said, chuckling. He didn't bother scrubbing himself, he'd just showered not too long ago, what was the use right? For now, he was just happy to relax and converse and have a good old time.
"Mmmm" he replied to her next statement as he relaxed, lost in the hot spring water and the smell around them. "I suppose so" he said as he got up and clanked his drinking glass against hers, gulping that drink down too. This might be bad, considering Josh hadn't really drank much alcohol before!

How much alcohol could one person take while simmering away in a hot springs setting? Apparently, the answer to that would be revealed in this little interaction happening between Izumi and Josh at this very moment. As she reached for the ceramic serving container and poured herself another serving, she thought she felt the world slightly wavering in and out of focus—yet chose to shake her head and ignore the woozy feeling. Not now, I’m still enjoying myself! She thought as she then poured herself yet another serving and then clinked the drinking dish against his once more. “Well… after this, where do you want to head next? Need a bite to eat? Or maybe we can crash over at the inn for a while… seeing as it’s going to be very hard to get around if we decide to go out front… I can have some food delivered to the room from my family’s café, what do you say?” she asked, still soaking and inhaling the minty freshness of the steaming water where they were right now.
“Maybe after they clear out we can go around town and I’ll give you the official tour, the one earlier was the backstreet version,” she added with a chuckle as she looked at the drinking dish and then poured herself one more serving, before shaking it and then noticing that it was running pretty low. “Here, the rest’s yours, you can have it…” she trailed off as she knocked back the last serving and then reached for the second tub and placed her drinking dish in it before setting it afloat for a while; and then leaning back against the rocks; right beside Josh. He looked like he could hold his own liquor as much as she could; and besides, if they had food to return to, then the wooziness wouldn’t kick in so much… Such knowledge I know for drinking… eat a meal afterwards so you don’t feel hung over… she thought with a lazy grin on her face as she stretched out her legs underwater once again, before wiggling her toes.

Josh, obviously, wasn't used to alcohol, but he could feel the wooziness coming on. To make it even worse, he felt odd, like he didn't give two shits what he did. That was evidenced by the butt pinch he gave Izumi playfully before relaxing back into the water. The flirting's back! The flirting's back!
It only got worse as he took the next serving she poured for him, gulping it down. At her question, he looked over at her and shrugged. "I think it'd be nice to rest after all we've been through the last few days" he said with a chuckle. "Does that come with company?" he teased, shooting her a cheeky grin.
"Would be fun to get a tour after everyone's cleared out" he agreed, relaxing back again. He never had gotten a chance to really tour Lavaridge Town, since he got swamped upon entry. Being able to kick back and see the sights would be nice. He nodded when she offered him the last of the alcohol and he pounded it down with ease before resting it on the side and resting his head on the surface.

Izumi thought he felt a pinching sensation as she settled back down in the water; but chose to ignore it—because for one thing, the smell of mint wafting from the water was pretty intoxicating—in the relaxing kind of way. She then chuckled at his response, before continuing, “Of course it comes with the company. Why do you think I suggested ordering out from the café, but having them bring it over to the Inn instead? I can take a good guess everyone’s either waiting outside in the streets; or just waiting for either one of us to make an appearance outside. Luckily there are back streets that people seem to have forgotten about,” she ended with a grin, before nodding at his agreement of having the “official” tour; because the one they had earlier was a bit of the rushed, backwater side of things!
“If you want, after we finish soaking here we can head back there right away so that we can enjoy the food in peace… and each other’s company,” she added with a wink and a grin, before practically leaning against him—in a very friendly way of course! The hot water that now felt like spearmint was more than enough to make the aches and problems go away; it was like getting a revitalized charge without having to worry about getting out of the water. She then remembered that she had to clean out her hair; but she could take care of that once they were back at the in—and she knew that this particular innkeeper valued privacy as much as the customers did; and wouldn’t allow anyone else in and out of the place easily once they had gotten back there!

I can take a good guess everyone’s either waiting outside in the streets; or just waiting for either one of us to make an appearance outside. Luckily there are back streets that people seem to have forgotten about,” she had said, seeming to decide to ignore the booty pinching. That was fine with Josh's drunk self, of course. "That's fine with me" he teased with a chuckle. "We can go to the inn, get something to eat, and wait for everyone to calm down before we take the grand tour" he said, smirking a bit.
“If you want, after we finish soaking here we can head back there right away so that we can enjoy the food in peace… and each other’s company,” she then said, and a smirk crossed Josh's face. "Sounds like a plan to me" he said as he felt her lean against him. Pinching her rump again playfully, he leaned against her and relaxed. "Maybe in a... Few more minutes..." He trailed off as he felt comfortable in the hot springs.

Izumi knew that he was just kicking back and enjoying himself—although she did feel her rump being pinched once again; she knew that she had to hold in the retaliation until they got back to the inn; it was because for starters, lots of things could happen while they were in the hot springs; plus things could get a little out of hand once they did get going (and it’s better to be safe than sorry as well) so she decided to do the same as well; just lingering and wiggling her toes underneath the surface of the water; letting the mint do its work. The air was starting to hang over them, and as she looked up in the sky, she then continued to talk about what she’d opened up earlier. “You know about what I shared with you earlier? The guy I told you about who I brought back to the town in a casket? He… well, if you could put it this way, the way that you and I are interacting right now, him and I used to be the same way,” she admitted with an embarrassed chuckle escaping her lips.
She felt her face flush at that moment, but decided to continue on, so that things would be clear, “After that happened… you know that feeling of just wanting to be alone and isolate yourself from everyone else? I… I never got the chance to do that. I had to keep going, I had to look for the person who’d killed him—in the end, I joined this organization back then, it was called Steinhart; in order to at least be able to travel the other regions and look for clues. Eventually though, the team disbanded; and I had nothing to show for trying to look for information…” she trailed off, finally letting loose the little secret that she’d kept a secret from everyone else, until now. “Well… I was a Trainer to begin with, so I decided to go back to the roots and just go with the flow of things again. I’m still trying to get stronger. Not just for him, but for myself as well…” she trailed off, sinking down low into the water until her nose was barely skimming the surface; before submerging herself completely for a few seconds and then popping up and out of the surface sometime later looking like a wet fish out of water.
“That’s Izumi, the crash course,” she added a few moments later; another chuckle escaping her lips before she ended up scratching her head sheepishly and falling silent once more.
