The storm of sand had finally cleared up, leaving the field clear except for the debris left in the wake of the previous skirmishes and the dark, ominous room that still surrounded them like an ill omen. However, just because the weather returned to normal didn’t mean that the Salamence was going to ease up on the fight, as Zernebog witnessed when the Salamence blocked both reflections with heated waves of wind of his own.
”Cue the next act..” Zernebog let a small grin emerge from his lips as he gave the order as the Salamence blocked the second gust of reflected wind.
In response, Hydros looked up at the sky and sighed heavily. Instead of a puff of breath, thick black clouds escaped from his mouth and floated to the sky above the arena. Before anything else could happen though, the Salamence released a wave of heat straight towards the Blastoise, forcing him to turn his attention towards the dragon while putting another mirror in front of him.
Like before, the mirror absorbed the attack and turned red. A moment later, it shattered as it released the attack right back at its originator at even greater speeds. As soon as it either hit something or missed, the entire arena would become even darker as the clouds from Hydros’ mouth finally obscured the sky and rumbled. A moment after that, the rain began to fall in sheets, filling the arena with a steady hissing sound.
Hydros used that as a cue to blast a wave of water from his cannons after forming a ring around them for an instant. The wave was aimed right at the Salamence at speeds faster than usual due to the strange room they were in, following the path of the attack that came before it.
Now he was going to see just how tough this dragon really was….

The arena had cleared, now free of the sandstorm. And Amber was a bit relieved by this. The sandstorm was an annoying weather to deal with, and she should know herself considering she has a Gible with the same move. However, with the weather now clear, that just meant the battle was going to become tougher. But she may have spoken too soon about the weather.
The Blastiose rose it's Mirror Coat up again. The Heat Wave bounced right back towards Theseus as the arena suddenly turned grey. The Blastiose had summoned a rainstorm, the water drops fell onto the field and the Pokemon inside. Theseus wasn't going to fall for this though. The Salamence roared as he spread his wings, calling forth another Heat Wave to block the incoming one. As he turned, he realized that the Blastiose had sent off a Water Pulse towards him as well. The Salamence shot upward, white streaks forming around him as the Water Pulse flew past. Amber grinned as Theseus hovered above. The Trick Room may have swapped around his base speed, but his Aerial Ace was still unaffected.
With the rain now covering the arena, and soaking her own hair, Amber watched the Blastiose carefully. Her instinct told her to stay away at all costs, so that's what she did. "Stone Edge!" She called out. Theseus responded by diving downward towards the ground, as he came close he pulled up and slammed his tail into the ground. Large and small rocks jumped up and Theseus swatted his tail, knocking the pieces towards the Blastiose like a baseball. They flew at high speed right at the Blastiose, and Amber had to wonder just how much more intense this battle could turn.

So the girl wanted to play the distance game? If that’s what she wanted, then Zernebog was more than willing to oblige. There was more than one way to do this dance after all.
”Hydros, rock steady.” Zernebog ordered in a tone soft enough so that only his Blastoise could hear due to proximity. Admittedly, the rain helped in muffling his voice from the opposition, which was just what he needed.
At the sound of the order, rings of water ran through Hydros’ bulky form, invigorating him slightly as the stones approached while he adjusted his cannons. Then he fired a powerful torrent of water from his back, easily pulverizing the rock with sheer power from his cannons and the natural advantage of water over rock and heading towards the Salamence at a fast rate with almost no loss in power. If he could cut steel with his cannons, then rock was no problem while enhanced by the rain.
If the Salamence blocked, dodged, or was hit, Hydros would immediately follow it up with a beam of ice aimed right at the Salamence from his mouth. Now that he had no Heat Waves to worry about with the rain in full effect, he was banking on this to threaten the Salamence further if not hurt it almost as much as a Hydro Pump would.

Both Amber and Theseus waited for their enemy to make their move. She saw Zenrebog's mouth move, but couldn't hear over the rain and the tone of his voice. However, the Blastiose's posture told Amber that Theseus needed to be careful. The Blastiose broke through the Stone Edge and headed towards Theseus. However, the Deagon's eyes widened and he became coated in a dark blue aura. As the Trick Room faded, he felt his speed come back and he maneuvered away from the Hydro Pump, allowing it to fly past and above the crowd's head. His eyes snapped back as the Ice Beam was coming straight towards him as well. Before his dragon aura faded completely, it fired back up again and he flew quickly away from the Ice Beam as well. This time with greater speeds. With the Trick Room gone, he was prepared now.
Amber smirked. The Trick Room faded around them, which meant Theseus had his full speed back again. However, even with his speed back, she still wanted to stay away from the Blastiose. Just as she thought, the Blastiose had a Ice move. It wasn't really surprising to her, but at least she knew for sure now. So for now, she was just gonna continue playing her distance game and just see what would happen next. "Stone Edge again!" She called out.
The Salamence wasted no time in slamming his tail into the ground, this time with greater power and force. Larger pieces of rocks shot up into the air and Theseus quickly swatted the rocks directly at the Blastiose with his tail. The larger rocks flew directly at the Blastiose, with attack backing it up now.

And the room was gone. Zernebog just hoped that his current instructions to Hydros would be good enough to weather the storm and wear down that blasted dragon. If not… well, he would have to play a hand that he had hoped to save for one of the other competitors here.
To think, this wouldn’t have been a problem if he had not made that blasted misstep some time ago! This is what he got for running on impulse like he always did. Was this a sign that he should stop using his gut so much and actually listen to his mother in using his brain more often for actual strategies instead of Indy ploys and on-the-stop tactics? Well, he’ll have to see.
While Zernebog was thinking that, Hydros was faced with a dilemma. The sole thing protecting him from the gradual speed-up of his enemy was gone. This meant that he had to work overtime just so he can keep up and not fall in a single shot, even with his impressive bulk. So what was he going to do now?
Well, first he needed to remove imminent threats to himself, which included that stone edge the dragon just sent his way. The rocks were easily taken care of by a single burst of water from his cannons, because physical enhancement or not he still had the rain, STAB, and elemental advantage at his side. For now, of course.
After that was done, he moved onto phase two of making himself rock-steady, namely by increasing his defense to ludicrous heights by adopting a metallic sheen to himself that flickered into existence on his body for a few moments before fading. He wasn’t as hard to kill as some of his other comrades were once they reach their fullest potential, but he was no slouch in the defense department.
Rock steady indeed.

Theseus hovered in the air, his tail flickered behind him as he watched the Blastiose carefully. The Water Pulse had knocked the Stone Edge off course and blocked it completely. Amber tensed up as she noticed the Blastiose had taken it's time to strengthen it's defenses, twice. She had to think for a moment here. Even with Theseus' Dragon Dance, it would take some time to blast through the Blastiose's defenses. However, she knew of a Pokemon that could get through it. And she was sure he was itching to make his appearance on the stage of the Indigo Plateau.
She held up Theseus' Pokeball, recalling him as she held up another. "It's been a while since you've been in your Pokeball so long. Sorry about that." Amber muttered as she tossed the Pokeball out on the field. As the Pokeball popped open, a canine like Pokemon materialized onto the field. The light faded and Fang entered the field with a loud, intimidating howl. The golden Mightyena made his presence known as he stood on the field with confidence. He moved his paws in place to warm up as he eyed his opponent. The Blastiose didn't scare him, instead a smirk appeared on his face and he shot a glance back at Amber. He barked at her, as if to say 'About time' and returned his focus on the Blastiose.
Amber shrugged and crossed her arms. "Not my fault. I had to wait until the right time." She replied, knowing what Fang had meant. Her facial expressions tuned back to serious as she eyed the Blastiose carefully. "Alright, let's get your debut started, shall we?" She asked, Fang giving her a low growl in reply.
The Mightyena let out a prideful howl, a black orb formed inside his mouth as he took his aim. Fang released the Dark Pulse, a large orb inside dark purple rings was shot at the Blastiose. If it had hit, there was a chance of the Blastiose flinching. Something that Amber was counting on. If not, then that was fine as well. The Dark Pulse stopped and Fang took off. He ran fast at the Blastiose, giving it a playful grin as he jumped up towards its left canon. It wasn't noticeable until Fang had jumped and opened his mouth to chomp down on a lower part of the Blastiose's canon, but his teeth had glowed white and increased in size. If Fang had hit his mark, the Super Fang would leave a nasty mark.
Salamence was recalled, sent out Mightyena
Mightyena: 100% Intimidate activated! Used Dark Pulse (120 pwr STAB, 20% flinch chance) then jumped up to try and use Super Fang (cuts opponent to half of their current HP) on the Blastiose's canon, aiming low so he wouldn't be in range of fire!

Of all the things that Zernebog was expecting the girl to do, switching pokemon wasn’t one of them. There had to be a reason why she just switched in her perfectly-usable Salamence for some strange-looking shiny gold and brown mutt -and didn’t he sound like some used car salesman now?- to fight against Hydros. She didn’t seem to be the irrational hothead type unlike some other people he could name. Maybe she wanted to soften up his turtle’s outer shell so that the Salamence can come back and break it into pieces? It was a thought, though he wasn’t quite sure how the Mightyena would manage it.
Still, at least this meant that he knew four out of her pokemon now, like she knew four of his. At least things at that end were now mostly even.
He clenched his right hand. Mostly being the key word here. He had to be careful either way, so this meant a slight change of tactics.
”Be the rocketeer.” Zernebog called out, a bit of his old playful smirk starting to emerge from his face even as the girl gave her dog its own marching orders. The rain still poured on, making his voice only reach the nearest creature to him, which just happened to be Hydros.
A small grin formed on Hydros’ face at the words even though he was also intimidated by the golden canine like he had been by the blue dragon. He’d beaten that Gym Leader’s pokemon without the help of his teammates. Another case of nerve wasn’t about to stop him now. His trainer asked for him to be a rocketeer so he was going to deliver!
And deliver he did, as he easily countered the orb of darkness from the canine with a Water Pulse, using the rain-empowered wave of water to cancel it out before it ever reached him. He usually preferred taking the brunt of the hits and returning them twofold, but since his trainer asked for the rocketeer then who was he to refuse?
The Mightyena then tried to follow it up by running up to Hydros, probably intending on a biting move. Given the fact that the Blastoise’s physical defenses were bolstered quite a bit, that was a very stupid and almost worthless move unless….
Zernebog’s smirk became a bit wider upon realizing just what the girl was playing at. ”Move!”
Seeing that the Mightyena was aiming for one of his cannons, Hydros couldn’t cancel it out like he did the projectile. Instead, he had to get a bit creative. Pretending to panic, he shot off a massive wave of water from his left cannon and didn’t brace himself with both legs like he usually did. This allowed him to push himself backwards in a counterclockwise motion from the force of the water, using right leg as a pivot to do so. This enabled him to dodge the Mightyena’s fangs with a few inches between them.
Not one to waste an opportunity, Hydros turned off the water pressure from his left cannon, braced himself this time and then promptly spat out a huge, powerful, and fast torrent of water from his mouth that was aimed right at the Mightyena while it was still in the air, hoping that he would be able to hit it while it was this close. After all, it made the effort to actually come to him so why not reward it with a very large dose of water from his own mouth?

The rain continued to pour heavily onto the field. It was an advantage that Amber couldn't deal with, or get rid of for that matter. Though, she counted her blessings that Blastiose could never get the Swift Swim ability. All the rain did so far was power up its moves, and that was a pain in the ass so far. The Blastiose had blocked the Dark Pulse easily. As Fang had jumped, it blasted a Hydro Pump at him. However, the blast had missed him completely and moved the Blastiose in place for his right canon to fire off its own Hydro Pump at him. Fang's eyes narrowed as he was in the air and acted quickly.
The Hydro Pump hit him... but it went right through? The Mightyena had reacted quickly, able to see the Blastiose's attack before it could hit. The Double Team had allowed him to get to the ground quicker while the copy above simply disappeared into thin air. He had managed so by tossing his body weight out of the line of fire, and ended up landing on the ground on all fours. "Take off!" Amber yelled. The Mightyena grinned as he used the impact from his landing to launch himself towards the Blastiose.
Fang took off running, at a higher speed than last time. As the canine ran, he fired off a Shadow Ball in front of him. The Shadow Ball spun off the ground, firing off at a quicker speed due to the wet ground. It aimed to hit the Blastiose right in the gut, hopefully giving Fang enough time for his attack. As he got closer, he jumped again. This time, trying to land on the Blastiose's back. If he had made a successful hit, the Mightyena would have attempted to bite down hard on the Blastiose's shell. His teeth glowed white and enlarged in size, being able to bite through the Blastiose's defenses.
Amber smirked herself. That was it, their bond and training was showing up now. Fang was smaller than most of her other Pokemon, making him a slightly harder target to hit. Along with his Double Team and quick thinking, it could prove difficult to hit him. She felt as though this Blastiose served nothing more to be a wall at the moment. She wasn't surprise when he was playing the dodge game again, it seemed to be Zernebog's battle style. And an annoying one at that. However, she took out the Garchomp while taking down his Gardevoir to low health as well. His Lucario she would have to worry with later, but right now her focus was bringing that Blastiose down before it could actually do any real damage.
Mightyena: 100% Used Double Team to dodge the Hydro Pump! Jumped down from the air to use the momentum to try and jump onto the Blastiose's back! As he was running towards him he used a Shadow Ball (80 pwr + 20% chance to lower sp. def)! Then (if successful jump) used Super Fang (cuts to half of the target's current hp)!

The Hydro Pump missed. It wasn’t as accurate as it could be, so that was to be expected when it became apparent that the mutt had Double Team in its arsenal. No matter. There were still a lot of chances to hit it if Zernebog’s theory was correct. Given that the Mightyena was still raring to go after it dodged and landed on the ground, it looked like Zernebog would be able to find out if it were true while the canine was still fighting Hydros.
The white haired trainer simply watched as the canine launched a Shadow Ball onto the slick, muddy ground to try and hit Hydros. Since his last order was rocketeer, Hydros didn’t go for cancelling out the ball of shadows with one of his attacks. Instead, the large turtle quickly jumped up an impressive height for something as large and bulky as it was, tucked in all of its appendages and assumed a horizontal position. Then he began spinning really fast, easily moving out of the way of both the ball and the attacking Mightyena, who appeared to be trying to bite him again.
As soon as Hydros got away from both attacks and got rather far from the Mightyena, he stopped spinning and popped out of his shell immediately like nothing happened. Then he fired off a wave of water from his cannons in order to try and hit it this time to shave off a good portion of its health.
Meanwhile as the battle was raging, Zernebog was amused. The Mightyena just won’t quit trying to bite Hydros. Well, the canine just started so it would have no reason to quit now wouldn’t it? With what Zernebog was seeing as well as his own experiences filling in the missing parts, he was fairly sure that it was Super Fang that the mutt was using. If nothing else, this pretty much validated his theory.

Amber watched with a scowl as the Blastiose continued to play the dodge game. The large turtle like Pokemon ended up withdrawing into his shell and spinning away from the Shadow Ball and Fang. The Mightyena landed on the ground and kept low, in case he had to spring away quickly from one of the Blastiose's attacks. Amber had to figure out a way to get a hit on her opponent's Pokemon. She had to give him credit though, he trained them well. Annoying, but well trained.
The Blastiose stopped spinning and came out of his shell and fired off another Hydro Pump towards him. The pump of water blasted towards Fang, who took that as a signal to take off. He pounced up from his low position, allowing the Hydro Pump to pass beneath him. Amber yelped as the Hydro Pump blasted towards her and flew above head, hitting the wall behind her. She turned quickly to keep her eyes on the battle and called out to Fang as he landed onto the ground. "Fang! Get in there!" She yelled over to the Mightyena.
As he hit the ground, instantly the Mightyena faded and reappeared. Only this time, there were ten Mightyena on the field instead. Fang charged forward, each of the copies from Double Team followed as well. Hopefully, the Blastiose would have no clue which one was real. Quite frankly, neither did Amber. Each of the copies tried to dog pile onto the Blastiose. Each of the Mightyena copies bared their teeth to try and chomp down onto the Blastiose's shell, but only one would actually hurt.
Mightyena: 100% Dodged Hydro Pump! Used Double Team again to create multiple copies of himself as he charged towards the Blastiose. Fang tried to jump onto the Blastiose again with Super Fang, copies of him followed as well in hopes of confusing the Blastiose.

Zernebog nearly frowned again. Okay, so this game of cat and mouse wasn’t getting anywhere. Compared to the earlier bouts with the Salamence and the Altaria, this was starting to seem like it was going to drag on forever with one party never hitting the other, what with their similar speeds.
Time to change tactics… and Zernebog might know just how.
The white haired trainer observed as the Mightyena continued the game of cat and mouse by creating fake illusionary doubles of itself and jump high up in the air with all of them. As soon the Mightyena reached the apex of his jump, he pulled out the Blastoise with the pokeball that he pulled out with his left hand. He then whipped out a pokeball with his right hand and quickly sent out someone more suited for dealing with the pest back out onto the field – Diomedes.
Diomedes looked up at the multiple descending dogs and was almost tempted to sigh. It would figure that his trainer would send him in into the really awkward situations. Instead of groaning and sighing about it though, he moved out of the place where he was going to be bitten at an absolutely blinding speed. Then he turned around and threw out a sphere of aura energy right at the Mightyena, hoping to blast it away from him even further and take away a large portion of its health with one hit. Or at least what was mostly likely the Mightyena amongst the group, but since they were all clumped into one place from trying to bite whoever it was who came before him it and most of them were probably illusions… it probably didn’t matter.

Amber had thought for sure that she had caught the Blastiose this time. However, Zernebog quickly recalled the Blastiose as Fang had jumped, replacing him with a Pokemon that worried Amber a lot. In place of the Blastiose, where it stood in the middle of all the Fangs, now stood a Lucario. The Pokemon didn't blink as it rushed away. Amber quickly drew out two Pokeballs, one returned Fang as he landed. The red beam of lit connected with the real Fang and withdrew him quickly. Another Pokeball was thrown onto the field in a quick fashion, releasing a familiar face.
Theseus was released into the battle field once again. His intimidating roar echoed through the field as he searched for his opponent. However, his face was met with an Aura Sphere instead. The Salamence staggered in the air but shook off the attack. He locked eyes with the Lucario and growled in a low tone of voice. He dropped to the ground with a thud and spread his wings out, allowing himself to rest. Amber couldn't help but smirk and decided to have some fun with herself. With the way this battle was going, she was almost getting bored with all the dodging. "Are we finally ready to have a real battle then?" She said to Zernebog. Hey, she might as well enjoy herself.
The girl shifted on her feet and made eye contact with her Salamence. Theseus nodded and spread his wings as a large gust of wind began coming from behind him. He roared as he slashed his wings forward, creating another wave of heat that spread from his side to the Lucario's. The Heat Wave rolled towards him at full force, hoping to catch the Steel type within.

Zernebog resisted the urge to frown. That wretched Salamence was back. Even worse, it was at an even higher health than it had been previously due to the fact that it had used Roost.
No matter. He would just have to whittle away at it with Diomedes until it fainted or it was forced to switch out again. And if that didn’t work, he still had more than enough tricks up his sleeves if need be, including his trump card if absolutely necessary.
Still, he couldn’t help but smirk as he was amused by the girl’s taunt. He had heard far worse from his friends like Ricki and the Princess, so this was practically a soft tap compared to all of the verbal abuse and trash talk that he had eagerly participated in with them. Paltry words like that were not enough to goad him.
Fighting wise was better than fighting on the same page. To that point, Zernebog quickly withdrew Lucario from the battlefield once Heat Wave was used and then he put Hydros back onto the battlefield.
Hydros took one look at the incoming wave of heat and promptly summoned a mirror of energy to absorb it in its entirety, not minding the damage he took in the process. The mirror then shattered and released another wave of heat right back at the Salamence at twice the power.
Zernebog then clicked his tongue once, causing Hydros to perk up and take on a metallic sheen as he used Iron Defense to bolster his physical defenses. It was as if the battle had been resumed or restarted after a brief intermission number by two canines, really.

If I fall back down
you're gonna help me back
---upagain*
Don't worry about me, I'm gonna make it alright Got my enemies crossed out in my sight I take a bad situation gonna make it right In the shadows of darkness I stand in the light You see it's our style to keep it true I've had a bad year, a lot to go through I've been knocked out, beat down, black and blue She's not the one coming back for you She's not the one coming back for you*
Surprise surprise. Amber's favorite tank was back and absorbed the Heat Wave yet again. The girl sighed out loud and almost wanted to sit down on the ground and draw stick figures in the dirt. Theseus retaliated with his own Heat Wave, raising his wings high as the two met in the middle and crashed, canceling each other out. Amber was honestly surprised by the fact the Blastiose did not take advantage of Theseus being grounded. She had to wonder, was Zernebog scared of her Salamence? Well, who wouldn't be scared of a large dragon rushing at you. But he had a perfect chance to attack him then. However, she took it as a chance and went with it.
The game of cat and mouse continued. Was everyone's battle style like this? At least with Ramona they got somewhere within the same amount of time. Amber scoffed and crossed her arms. Zernebog wasn't exactly the most friendly either, his attitude bothered her. But she tried to keep her cool, she knew it would get her nowhere in this match and end up slowing it down even more. She shifted on her feet and locked eyes with Theseus. "Stone Edge, twice." She said.
The Salamence geared up on his hind legs. As he slammed forward, the ground around him cracked and large chucks of rocks were tossed up in the air in front of him. And there was a lot of stone, considering he had used two Stone Edges. Theseus roared and the rocks shifted to their sides and ended up being fired off at the Blastiose in a barrage. Theseus readied his wings and shot up back into the air, now that he had fully rested. He hovered about and waited to see what the Blastiose would do.
Salamence: 83% Used Heat Wave to block the Mirror Coated one Used a barrage of Stone Edge x2 to attack

Sometimes, Hydros’ inexperience really shined through, especially when compared with his more seasoned battlers. One of the most glaring examples shone in his face right now when the large turtle did not attack the Salamence and simply just hardened himself further for the long haul as a response to his tongue-click, which was one of his set commands for the pokemon to do as they have judged. In any case, it was something to point out to him later when they went over with this battle after it ended. Not right now though since saying it out loud would tip the girl off that he wasn’t as much in control of the battle as he wished. Not with Hydros anyway.
Instead, he kept quiet and watched as the Blastoise blocked the barrage of stones from the ground by unleashing a huge torrent of water from his cannons that he swept from side to side, stopping all of the stones easily. However, the torrent wasn’t strong enough to cut through the rocks without the rain so it just broke the stones and stalemated there.
After a few seconds, the torrent died off again. Then Hydros did something that almost made Zernebog facepalm. In fact, he would’ve done just that if he didn’t have such excellent control over his emotions. Just what was it that he did? He gained yet another metallic sheen and hardened himself even further.
Well… he would just have to trust that whatever his turtle was planning, it was going to be a good one. But if it weren’t then he would have to take over commanding for the meantime. Pity too, since he was liking this more hands-off version of fighting better than his old one pre-Sevii Islands.
