It was a shopping day! She had a bundle of bags on her hand, from all sorts of fashionable little shops. Until recently her Furforu had been by her side as well, and some of the bags she was carrying made that evident. However she had seemed tired and not wanting to ruin her new trim, so Arietta had let her have a break. A few clothing stores later, she realized she would have to the trip she was most excited about now.. followed by the trip she was least excited about.
The first of her trips was to a custom clothes maker known for his magnificent work. He was a bit of a snob though, although she was used to hanging around such people. He made magnificent costumes for people that wanted to a special style when they were battling their opponents .Many of the most powerful trainers wore radiant costumes when they battled their enemies, like gym leaders and Champions. Since she was one of those people who had a great future ahead she just had to have one. She wanted a look that made people recognize it was her. He was a bit of an eccentric, you came in once.. he studied you for a while, asked some questions, took your measurements, and then you came back later and picked it up. He was an artist, and was proud of his ability to mix his own talents and finding just the right style for his customer.. even if they didn't already know it.
She had heard great things. She had seen his work. She had a vision for the kind of powerful and grace and flair that her own battle outfit would bring. She had saved up for months for it.
Unfortunately it was this first visit that was now causing Arietta to walk into the Stone Emporium in.. an outfit she was ashamed to be seen in.
Arietta was not happy. The way she stomped about the Stone Emporium showed it. His words were ringing through her mind.. She apparently desired attention. She only raised cute female Pokemon. She was proud of her youthful appearance. She had a 'magical' connection with her Pokemon bonded with their hearts or some stuff. It's not that she didn't believe that, but the way he put it made her feel silly and she hated it. He treated her like a kid and the way he had done her outfit showed she was right in assuming that. People were already staring and chuckling at her. He had practically begged her to try it during her last trip and then come back. Right now she just wanted to crawl into a hole and die. Quality it was, but this wasn't the vibe she had expected.
Being in this place didn't help. This was one of the places that let in all sorts of 'trainers' into it.. a label she still only barely accepted as her own. She pouted as she charged forward to the clerk. Some woman who looked really fashionable and that just made her even more upset. How dare pretty girls be pretty when she looked like this. She had trouble meeting her eyes in this weird outfit, but she had to just get this over with so she could get back to the man and pay him for this.. thing.
"How do these Stone things work!? Someone told me that if I wanted my Misdreavus and Roselia to evolve I had to use one of these... things! I don't see how that makes any sense. Explain." she said, speaking in a tone that almost seemed as if she was accusing the woman herself of being responsible for this situation.

Half an hour had passed since the brunette left the Stone Emporium. A whole thirty minutes of tranquillity before Evangeline could hear the soft jingle-jangle of a bell, could see the pinkette fashionably clad in a pink magical girl costume. Quite contradictorily to her outfit, she seemed to be rather grumpy, if that frowny pout was anything to go by, and someone like Evangeline could only wonder what could have lead such a cute, young girl to scowl in such a manner.
"Is that so?" Once the pinkette was done stating her demands, the clerk had to give herself a minute to smile before she could continue. "A Misdreavus and a Roselia, you say? Those are two incredibly beautiful Pokémon, as is the trainer," said she, tilting her head ever so slightly.
After a moment, she continued, "These are called evolution stones, first of all. As your friend said, your Roselia will need the help of a Shiny Stone to evolve, just as much as your Misdreavus will need a Dusk Stone. The elemental energy stored in these stones reverberates with that of certain Pokémon, which ultimately allows them to power up."
Evangeline's tone had been quite serious throughout her short speech, but by the time she reached this point, both her expression and timbre had softened considerably. She was, again, the sweet girl who had welcomed the pinkette with a smile, despite her annoyed entrance. "You and your Roselia must be pretty close to each other," she commented at last, figuring they must have gone through a lot together for the Roselia to have evolved all the way from a Budew. "Isn't that right, beauté?"

She had been prepared for the retaliation. She had almost expected it this time. She often knew she when she was acting bratty but this moment it was especially true. She wasn't happy.. and people never gave the benefit of the doubt. No one ever tried to empathize with her or understand her. However.. suddenly.. no.
This woman had reacted in a way she hadn't expected. It was if she was trying to prove everything she assumed wrong. This was an amazing thing, and she actually felt a flutter... a moment where her mood dared to brighten for a moment. It was hard to fight, even with her mind telling her that this woman was just professional. Deep down she probably considered her a awful brat but..
M-Maybe? "T-Thanks. You're right.. about everything of course." It wasn't that she wasn't used to complimenting herself, if she didn't no one would.. but there you wouldn't have pegged her for someone who had skill in complimenting herself at this moment. She stammered it out, seemed awkward about it.. someone else was calling her beautiful. In this outfit even! A very beautiful lady! Maybe this outfit was better then then she thought.. even if she did think it gave the impression she was trying to look as if she was 5 years old.
Her mannerisms loosened up a bit, she was a little more relaxed. "You like this outfit though? Does it suit me? It's new." she smiled at her. "I got for my debut with my Pokemon.. but I was worried it didn't look good on me." She felt silly. She wanted this woman's validation.. but whether she admitted it to herself or not she wanted everyone's validation. She wanted to be something.. something big.
This woman still seemed almost too good to be true though. She had even explained what Stones were without treating her like she was dumb. She kinda got it now even.. she wondered if her Mawile did anything like that too? She almost wanted to ask, but was afraid of sounding dumb. "I am very close to them, they trust me and I trust them.. and it's more then that. I think we are.. c-connected." she got shy, why was she telling this woman this thing? Nice or not, people just didn't understand this stuff. "B-But anyway, do you know what they'll look like once they do? I know being pretty is important to them too, I wouldn't want to force them to evolve if they wouldn't like it." she said. It was obvious that she cared about this just as much as she thought her Pokemon did.

Oh, that had been enough to brighten up the young girl's face. Evangeline looked on, smiling. Perhaps her bad mood had been consequence of a recent unsatisfactory incident, and that would be all there was to the grumpy expression from before? Evangeline studied what little she could gather from her body language. The pinkette seemed to be getting slightly more comfortable, and the discovery that she was now feeling better made the lavender-haired coordinator and part-time clerk glad beyond measure.
"I like it," Evangeline reassured her. "It looks cute on you. Bright, juvenile, with lots of personality. Very unique, I would say, and it even goes well with your hair," she pointed out, hinting at the girl's pink pigtails, which she hadn't quite noticed were actually part of a wig.
The coordinator's short list of compliments was sincere, though to anyone else it may have come off as mocking remarks, or even sarcasm. Her wording may not have been the best, but for someone as airheaded when it came to word choices it would be hard to tell. Evangeline's voice, at least, would never cease to be filled with that sweetness that people who knew her could consider characteristic to the young woman.
When the pinkette asked about the appearance of her Pokémon post-evolution, Evangeline's lavender irises were momentarily redirected to a distant, blank spot in the background, before returning to the magical girl's amber eyes. Her plans were to explain how, based on the pinkette's response to her own previous question, a deep understanding between Pokémon and trainer was the key to evolution, but the new inquiry threw her train of thought completely off-ground, as she eagerly sought a way of showing the girl what she wanted.
"While I do know how they'd look... Hmm." Evangeline brought one of her gloved hands to her chin, deep in thought. She didn't want to only describe them, but how could she show them to her? "Oh! Of course!" she exclaimed then, suddenly springing back to life. In one quick movement, she removed a thin electronic device from her pocket, and proceeded to tap its screen a few times. Once she was done, she returned her attention to the pinkette, presenting her with her mobile phone's screen. "This is how your Roselia would look. Beautifully melodramatic, wouldn't you agree? I personally love Roserade's appearance, and would love one on my cast if not for my little less than obvious fixation with psychic types."
By this time, as if to prove its trainer right, the Lunatone that had been peacefully hovering between the displays until now decided to levitate right back to the counter, and creep over from behind Evangeline's shoulders.

Arietta pondered the words that were spoken to her. There was the most obvious candidate for her attention..
'Juvenile'
It was a loaded statement. She had been frustrated a lot about being treated like a child lately.. but she knew that deep down she thought that the way she looked.. juvenile and all, was great. She felt as if she was fashionable and managed to enjoy a comfortable middle ground of cute and pretty. In fact she was pretty sure that most girls should be trying to look like her!
The question was what this woman thought of a girl with a juvenile appearance. She wanted to trust that she wasn't looking down on her.. but it was hard. Too many people not worth her time had been feeling that way. She was starting to feel a bit weird though.. she scratched her head. The fabulous designer who had made this outfit was the same way wasn't he.. he also very likely didn't consider her childishness to be a negative thing.
Maybe it wasn't.. maybe there was just a lot of stupid people.
The next statements made her ponder. She was looking at the mobile phone intently.. it actually was pretty. Eventually she brought out her Roselia poke ball and with a flash her tiny little lady was in her hands. At one foot tall her Roselia was a teeny tiny queen, and she explained what she brought her out for. "Roselia, what do you think? Is this how you want to become, how you want to look? It's just as much your decision as it is mine. I know I wouldn't want someone to decide for me this kind of thing." she said.
Arietta felt she knew the answer though, and when Roselia gave an excited.. almost scarily excited smile at the image on display, Arietta felt validated. She knew that this Pokemon sought out strength to be more effective at the stuff that brought her pleasure.. her naughty sadistic little lady would love to evolve. She would love to see her evolve and bring her form of love to the rest of the Pokemon in the world.
"I'll take one then. I hope you get a commission for it. I hope you weren't just complimenting me for one." she laughed at this although she meant it more then she would like to admit.. and then stuck in another question. "What do you think of a juvenile appearance? If you were me, would you work it?" .. she paused again for a moment. She knew something.. that this appearance would fit a bit better if she took on a different.. aura. She tried to soften her expression, loosen up her body language and make it more pronounced and 'cute' and make her voice a bit.. younger sounding. She bent over the counter they were at, smiling wide.. "Do you think I'm the most adorable thing you've ever seen, miss? I hope Ari doesn't make you feel jeaaalous?" She said, which was a lie.
It was kind of gross.. but almost exciting. It was kinda.. fun?
You don't know them like I do
I actually did buy a Shiny Stone upon posting this, so it's all canon-y and everything.

imperfection is beauty, madness is genius

She was staring intently at the screen. Whether it was a good stare or a bad one, Evangeline couldn't quite tell yet. Not until after she had released her Roselia out of her pokéball, that is. The white flash, far from exciting, ended up putting the lavender-haired clerk in a troublesome spot, though she tried her best not to let her discomfort show. The pinkette wasn't supposed to let customers release their Pokémon inside the Emporium, lest any of the stones resonate in-situ. On the other hand, so had obviously done so unknowingly, unmaliciously, and Evangeline couldn't find it in herself to force her young customer to recall the Roselia, as she saw them stand gleefully beside each other, trying to decide whether or not they wanted the grass type to evolve. She shared a worried look with her Lunatone, still lethargically hovering behind her.
Luckily, their choice had been made rather quickly, and none of the Shiny Stones seemed to have reacted to the Roselia's appearance. Evangeline sighed in relief, but let her dilemma fall to the backstage of her airheaded mind when the trainer, once again, surprised her with a new inquiry.
"Oh my," she exclaimed, an unsure smile lingering on her lips. Was it an ill-intentioned question, or was she truthfully curious about the answer Evangeline would offer? Was she looking for attention? Maybe it was all three, maybe neither. Evangeline just couldn't know. "I do have to admit I am a little jealous, ma beauté. Pulling off a cute look like yours may not be all that possible for me, now, if it ever was." A soft, melodious laugh followed her confession, as if to wave off any negative thoughts. "It doesn't bother me, though. Everyone has their own unique kind of beauty, a beauty both physical and metaphysical, and I like yours just as much as I hope you would like mine."

The first step was to recall her Roselia. Although she hated that it was necessary, she knew she shouldn't let Pokemon linger in shops. She hadn't realized that this place might have an even further reason for such a rule.. she returned it for the same reason she would have returned it for any place of business.
The young girl stared at her Poke Ball for a while, as if in deep thought.. eventually she shook it off though. This person had said lovely things.. and it was conflicting within her. This lady was..
She felt something flutter within her. A feeling that bothered her. Deep down she wanted everyone's love and adoration.. she wanted to be recognized and given attention for the things she felt proud of herself about.. but this woman she was starting to realize she wanted that even more. She wanted to believe all the things she was saying were true. Not just pleasantries, or her in business mode.
"D-Do you mean it ma'am?" she said, trying not to hate herself for how small she sounded right now. This woman liked it.. it was okay to sound small she told herself. She wasn't judging you at all.. she thinks you are cute. She wishes she could be as cute as you are. Deep breaths, Arietta. "Do you really mean everything you said, really and truly? I-If you do.. I.. I mean.. if you are being your real self with me right now.. t-then yes.. you're really beautiful.." she hated this feeling. She felt so fragile.. she shouldn't be becoming so vulnerable to this person. She just met her.. she was giving too much of herself to her. She hated this. No. No no no no no. Stupid stupid stupid. She probably wasn't worth it. She was probably just going to hurt her..
Why did the normal things she told herself not have the same effect right now?
"D-Do you have a picture of how Misdreavus will turn out.."

friendly warning that this airhead will break your heart

Evangeline watched the pinkette's stare thoughtfully at another of her pokéballs as she skillfully wrapped up the Shiny Stone that Atlas had picked up from one of the showcases for her. She was lucky that nothing had happened with the Roselia, but the young trainer had mentioned another Pokémon when she first stepped in, had she not? She waited for the trainer to finish with her sweet, almost saccharine confession, before addressing her with a brand new question. Evangeline brought one of her gloved hands back to her lips. "What's your name, sweetheart? Ari, you said?"
Yes, she had most definitely used that name to refer to herself. Evangeline let out a pleased huff, sure she had remembered the pinkette's name right, before offering her another smile. "I do mean everything I've said, Ari. Doubting my feelings would make me really sad, you know."
Right. The Misdreavus. "Typing up a new search on my phone will be all we'll need for a picture of Mismagius, Misdreavus's evolution, but." An abrupt, dramatic halt. Evangeline didn't want to say what she was about to say, but she knew she needed to. "You have to promise you won't take your little friend out inside the store. I can lend you my phone for a bit, so that you can go and consult this with Misdreavus outside, but taking out your Pokémon inside the Stone Emporium is a big no-no, okay?"
Post by Arietta Connally on Jul 5, 2014 18:49:52 GMT -5
She just stared at her for a moment.. collecting her thoughts. Eventually though.. words would start to spill out of her.
"Thank you. I'm sorry for bringing Roselia out and almost risking your job like that." she said, a softer smile starting to come out of her. "It would have been also bad if my poor Roselia had evolved without even getting a chance to decide. I wouldn't want to risk the same with Misdreavus. They are so important to me and I don't want to make a mistake like that with them.. no no. So yes, I'll take it outside."
She really was relaxing. She was starting to speak quite large little chunks, thoughts actually slipping from brain to mouth without the sort of fliter the she usually carried. If she had realized that.. she would only further ponder what mysterious power this lady had come from. She must have come from an alien planet.. or something.
"You can call me Ari.. but my name is Arietta. Ari is something cute I call myself, but no one else has appreciated me enough to call me something like that. You're special, okay? Although I want to show the whole world someday.. " she giggled, and stood proud.
She paused for a moment. There was feeling her heart was dying to express, but it was one she was trying hard to hold back. "You should tell me your name too.. because we're friends now, okay?" it came out in this form, almost sounding like a demand.. or something she was forcing her into. Almost pouty. However that changed.. a few seconds passed and something burst out of her.
"R-right?" these words came out more vulnerable sounding and desperate sounding then she ever intended them to sound. Little tears were even building on the bottom of her eyes as her aura of confidence to protect herself was gone in this just this word.. and she was a lonely little girl who make a meaningful connection with another person.
You don't know them like I do
I'm pretty sure Evangeline just has skipped to the second heart event with Arietta. Isn't that cheating? Hehe. Music
