Izumi had picked up another safari Tag while she was at it, and was now trying to see if her luck would get her far enough. She realized that she was building some sort of “catching service”; as she’d been contacted by some individuals who wanted these certain ‘mons, and since her luck with random encounters was really random at best, she decided to put that particular quirk of hers to good use. Now that she’d gone off to the nearest Pokemon Center and healed up her team, she was ready to take on another Safari Zone catching spree. Well, it can’t exactly be called a “spree” because you can nab only one, but what the hell, who cares… she thought as she quickly handed over her other Safari Tag, and hung on to the lone Safari ball she had with her as she passed through the routine security check. Hoping that her newest member of the crew, Riku (the Deino he’d recently gotten) was up to the challenge, she decided that she was going to try and use him this time around.
Once the mandatory check and pat-down was complete, and she was granted access through the gate, she now found herself in the Safari Zone once more—where there seemed to be even more people trying their luck at getting their hands on some of the rarer ‘mons that existed in the world. “Okay, so since I went left last time… might as well go right…” she said, more to herself as she quickly directed her footsteps in that particular direction and then started walking along an expanse of grassland so high, it was almost reaching her thighs. Don’t they ever trim the grass here? She thought, looking around ever-so-carefully before realizing that wild Pokemon did make their homes in tall grass, but the height of this patch she was wading through was pretty ridiculous.
Okay, calm down and wait… and listen… she thought, looking around furtively just in case she missed the ‘mon that would suddenly clamber either from her flank, or from behind—or, on the off-chance, from the front even.

She was looking around on the new path when she felt the wind suddenly drop a few degrees—what had caused it to do that—and then she craned her head around to face front and saw that there was a… levitating snowflake?! She then pinched herself to make sure that she wasn’t just seeing things in front of her, and then feeling the sudden recoil of pain, she knew she wasn’t. how am I going to attack this thing… dang it, now I know what I need… she thought as she quickly felt her hands close around one particular Pokeball, and in a flash of red light, she saw Asuka, her Mienfoo, appear from out of nowhere. “So Asuka… looks like it’s your turn to shine,” she said with a grin, hoping that her ‘mon’s reach was long enough—because this actual snowflake was levitating for crying out loud. “So let’s get this show on the road, let’s try a Swift attack first, okay?”
“Mienfoo!” she heard her companion call out, and watched as Asuka took one step back before inhaling—and then watched as a ray of star-shaped particles spewed out of its mouth—just as the “levitating snowflake” quickly shrouded itself with what appeared to b a hazy kind of mist! “Hah, I know your game,” Izumi said with a grin—as the Swift attack never missed! “Cryogonal, cryogonal, cryogonal…” she heard the snowflake intone—and then realized that it her ‘mon’s attack had hit it a few moments later; because she heard the sound of something smacking against another surface. “Okay, Asuka, follow that up with a Detect status move, because that thing looks like it’s going to blow!” she said, scenting the air that had dropped several more degrees—and from out of the mist she saw that there was a ray of what looked like frozen energy cutting through it!
Crap, I hope it works! She thought as Asuka practically braced itself for the impact—and breathed a sigh of relief as the attack was rendered ineffective—but now the snowflake was on the offensive, and she saw chunks of ice zooming through the air. “Dang it,” she hissed, before shifting her footing, “Asuka, dodge those ice shards, and go and use your Aura Sphere attack, now!”
“Mien, mienfoo!” she heard her companion call out once again, as if in confirmation—and then watched as a sphere of energy quickly coalesced from out of thin air—and then quickly cut through the dissipating fog and smacked the levitating snowflake head-on—she was secretly relieved that her Mienfoo knew attacks that could hit no matter how hard the opponents tried to dodge it. “Come on, girl, let’s get moving!” she called, quickly cutting across the area and then dashing off—she then heard the little pitter-patter of feet following her as she cut through the area, making a mad getaway from the “levitating snowflake”.
Now, where to next… she thought as she looked around, hoping to get a better draw this time.

After making that mad dash away from the berserk snowflake, she and Asuka had put some distance… only to come upon something that looked unusual. “What is that?!” Izumi could only say out of surprise, for it was the first time she’d seen something that looked out of the ordinary that wasn’t from Hoenn. “Mienfoo?” she heard her companion say out of confusion as well; even if she hadn’t been travelling too long with Izumi, she had some knowledge of the world—anything that did not look like her was different. “Well, I’ll call upon you again if you’re needed okay, Asuka? For now, take a rest… because it’s her turn to shine,” she said, watching as her Mienfoo vanished in a flash of red light. A few moments later, her first-ever ‘mon, the Ralts named Momo, appeared in another flash of red light.
“Look up there Momo, you know what that is?” she asked in a low voice, pointing out the… other ‘mon that looked like it was some sort of bug. “Ralts?” she turned back and asked out of confusion as well, unsure of what to do on it. “Well the, let’s go on the offensive now… Magical Leaf, if you may,” she said, taking a different tack this time; and pointing ever-so-discreetly ahead of her, before she heard the trill of approval. “Ralts!” she heard Momo call out, and then watched as leaves that were composed of seemingly visible psychic energy materialized before being scattered and sent hurtling towards the bug ‘mon’s way.
“Ka… kabu, kabu, kabuto?” she heard the strange entity call out—before it was smacked head-on by the Magical Leaf attack. She watched as it was forced back by several paces; and then she heard an ear-piercing sound—one that also made her clamp her own hands over her ears due to the way it sounded… “Is that the musical saw?!” she shouted out, visibly cringing in pain; not realizing that the ‘mon in front of them had used a status change attack. Momo appeared to be visibly rattled, and then she tried to regain her bearings again, before calling out, “Momo, use your Confusion attack on that thing, and let’s get out of here, because I hate the sound of that screeching noise… it was horrible!”
“R-Ralts!” came the reply, and the same hunk of psychic energy given visible form hurtled through the air—and then Izumi dated across the field before scooping up the little one in her hands and making a run for it. There was no way she was going to put up with that noise. Dang it… why can’t something nice drop my way? All I’ve been getting are duds… she thought, shaking her head to clear out the echoing scraping and ringing noise that was invading it.

She was about to flip her tables again when she and Momo came upon a very interesting sight… it was something she never thought she would encounter—it was a Water-type! Grinning, then remembering that she would eventually be hunting for a Mudkip (in the future) she then cracked her knuckles, and decided that this would do—not realizing that there was a lot of potential in this cute little thing that had just crossed her path. “Pip, pip, piplup?” she heard it chirp—and her lips twisted into a grin; since normally the cry of a ‘mon usually confirmed what its name was. “I know what I will call you. But for now… Momo, let’s get this party started!” she said with a grin, pointing straight at the little penguin-esque ‘mon, who was hopping around, before it came to a stop and stared at the Ralts and the human with it. For some reason, it was compelled to join them… but not without a fight!
“Pip, pip, piplup. Piplup?!” she heard it call out, before quickly coming in for an attack! “Whoa! Momo, Calm Mind first, then follow it up with a Magical Leaf!” she called out, skidding off to one protective side, making sure to get the hell out of the way! “Ralts!” she heard Momo call out in reply, before quickly focusing, as if finding its center—it was about to enter its normal stance whenever the Calm Mind status increase was activated—but got sidetracked when the Piplup’s attack connected, knocking her out of her meditative state! “R-ralts?!” she heard it cry out of surprise, as the Piplup rounded about and skidded to get into position for its second attack, and she could only guess that this was either a two-step attack… or a multi-hit one, from the looks of things.
“Come on Momo, I know you can do this! Hang in there!” she called from the sidelines, and Momo quickly picked herself up, and tried to concentrate once more… but just as she was about to find her center, the second attack connected, striking her head and sending her crashing to the dirt once more! “R-ralts… ralts, ralts… RALTS!” she heard Momo shout, something that she’d never seen happen before—and just as the Piplup rounded again and came in for the third strike of the attack that it was launching on Momo, something happened… “What… what’s going on?!” she shouted, trying to squint into the sudden burst of light that had enveloped Momo—and the Piplup was veering in…

After that sudden burst of light, it faded away… and in its place, Momo stood… or was it Momo?! Holy snap what the… Izumi thought, unable to believe what she had just witnessed, and instead of the usual cry, she heard something much different… “Ki, kirlia!” and right then and there, the leaves quickly materialized from out of nowhere, racing towards the incoming Piplup—and it received the full frontal assault of leaves; she then remembered that she’d asked Momo to launch a Magical Leaf attack! “Whoa… Momo… is that you?!” she could only exclaim, and then the familiar sight of spinning came back, only this time it was more pronounced—and more elegant. “Kirlia, ki.” She heard the same voice intone—only this time it sounded older! “Well, Momo, you know what to do… Confusion attack first, then follow it up with a Toxic attack, go!” she shouted, regaining her voice—and her wits a few seconds later.
“Ki, kirlia!” came the call, and then the lump of physical representation of psychic energy materialized, and went zooming in towards the Piplup; which had decided to change tactics and was coming towards them in a spinning motion—it had launched another attack and was screaming down on Momo! Just as the Piplup came in dangerously close, the lump of energy thwacked it straight in the face, sending it flying—and then a few moments later, it had landed in a pool of purple toxic bubbles, which it quickly inhaled—before disappearing. “Perfect, now Momo, try that Magical Leaf attack once more!” Izumi issued, regaining her stride and holding out her hand, waiting for the right time to strike. The Piplup was on its feet, but still wobbly—as the leaves that shimmered into existence screamed down on it—and it was attempting a Peck attack, as Momo could tell—and the leaves battered and pummeled its body, before staggering down to one side! “Ki, kirlia! Ki!” she heard Momo call, and Izumi knew that the time was right—she let the Safari Ball fly, and then watched as the capsule opened, swallowing up the battered Piplup in a burst of red light and falling to the ground, beginning to shake…

She was waiting nervously, watching as the Safari Ball she’d tossed rocked from side to side… and then it stopped. “Did… did it just…” she began, walking forward while Momo kept an eye out on it; as if waiting for it to burst open. “Kirlia, ki.” She said, before nodding, and then doing another beautiful spin—she then watched as Izumi approached it and then picked it up, taking a look at the Piplup that was inside it—it looked very battered, similar to how Riku had ended up the first time she’d traversed in the Safari Zone. “I know exactly what to call you… and since you’re female…” she trailed off with a grin, cradling the ball and making her way back to where Momo stood, spinning and twirling for real—now she looked more… mature, it seemed. “Good job there,” she added with a grin, crouching down and giving Momo an encouraging pet on the back of her head, before pulling out the ball where she resided. “Come on now, you deserve a good rest,” she added, watching as Kirlia vanished in a flash of red light and was sucked back inside.
She then proceeded to pocket Momo’s Pokeball, before finally saying the name that had been on her mind ever since she’d seen the Piplup wander across her path—“I’ll name you Nixe, since you’re a Water-type… it only fits to have a name matching the species,” she added with a grin, as she made her way back towards the entrance of the Safari Zone, proud that another day had passed, and another hut had been successful. She also knew that there were some sales going on in the various PokeMarts, and she decided to pick up the pace, and to get out of the Safari Zone post-haste—because she may not find anything once she did get to her intended destination!
