Etta's been long separated from all the people she was closest to: her childhood friends are traveling throughout the world as trainers, and all the rest are back in her hometown of Olivine City. She would be lying if she said she didn't get a little lonely, even with Eclair and Cleave along. While sometimes hard to approach, she doesn't shy from companionship. Etta would welcome the occasional traveling companion, or even just someone she could meet for coffee whenever their paths crossed.

ENEMIES

Etta really isn't one to make enemies, and her line of work doesn't exactly foster rivalries. She's never even met another investigative consultant - at least not one within her profession. Someone would really have to make a nuisance of themselves to get on her bad side. However, she does have something of an ingrained disdain for Team Rocket, and any other crime syndicate, so she's unlikely to jive well with anyone from that stock.

Etta's been attracted to someone a grand total of three times in her life, and never once has it led to a relationship - though at least two of those were probably reciprocated. That being said, Etta still believes in love and wouldn't back away if she saw the potential for a relationship. But she's tried the love-at-first-encounter thing before. It was ridiculous, still haunts her a bit, and she doesn't plan on it happening ever again. The lover-to-be would definitely need to be a friend first, and it would have to be someone she felt "complicit" with - someone whose side she felt she was on, whose trust she shared. Like, "us against the world," in a sense. Someone who has her back, makes her laugh, and can look on at the whole of creation with her and shrug at it's complexity and chaos.

Etta & Mimi

Etta's 24 and was a Consultant, Mimi's 21 and worked for Devon Corp.'s Customer Service.

I can see where she was hired by Devon Corp temporarily to come in and observe, talk to the employees like a temporary counselor for the business if things were getting a little rocky. It was during this time that Etta met Mimi. Etta being invited after work to go out drinking with the rest of Customer Service and some of the people in Accounting. Paired together as Mimi seemed to be the only one remotely close to Etta in age they soon woke up a much needed friendship. Of course when Etta left the company the two still kept in random contact back and forth. Then out of nowhere Etta receives a call from Mimi stating she's heading out of the Region.

Etta: "What why?!"
Mimi: "Long story, but my boat leaves in twenty minutes."
"What about work? . . . You're not eloping are you?!"
"What? No! I got fired."
"You got- Mimi how did you get-"
"Listen Etsy, I just wanted to call and let you know that something isn't right in Devon Corp. I should be back in a few weeks but if anything happens to me and I don't come back."
"Don't you talk like that to me. What's going on?"
"I can't tell you just yet but I'll call you again once I'm out of the Region."
"Mimi I don't- Promise me. Promise me that you'll call."
"I promise Etsy."

And that was the last phone conversation they had. Etta and Mimi can have threads where they're talking to one another back and forth the urgency has ebbed a little and Mimi of course will eventually be sending her pictures of Arthur.
Mimi: Isn't he a cutie?
Etta: He looks gay.
Mimi: He is not you're just jealous because you haven't found anyone yet!
Etta: H-Hey! That's not fair!

Mwahaha I like it. (The Arthur conversation sounds especially spot-on!) The only thing is the nature of the consulting Etta was doing for Devon when they met. She usually specializing in spotting hoaxes, lies, etc., especially when there's some kind of eerie or supernatural bent to it.

So, to make it work, my idea is that she was hired under false pretenses as a counselor by one of the Devon hire-ups that were on Steven's side. Her real mission was to try to root out who was working against him, or something like that. "Spot the mole," kinda, and Etta was hired for her unique talent for spotting conspiracies - and because she doesn't usually do that kind of consulting, no one in the company would recognize her as a corporate investigator. But she couldn't turn anything up after several months, and eventually her firm closed out the job and asked her to come home. Buuuuut as you said, she of course stayed in touch with Mimi, because in all honesty she doesn't have a lot of friends and she finds Mimi fantastically over-the-top.

And now they're both traveling randomly throughout the world, so they're bound to run into each other now and then.
