I WAS A CHILD
i heard voices some would sing
And some would scream You soon find you have few choices... I learned the voices died with me When I was a child, I'd sit for hours staring into open flame. Something in it had a power, could barely tear my eyes away. All you have is your fire... and the place you need to reach - don't you ever tame your demons, but always keep 'em on a leash. When I was 16, my senses fooled me thought gasoline was on my clothes. I knew that something would always rule me... I knew the scent was mine alone. All you have is your fire and the place you need to reach.
Giovanni was never a man who enjoyed training.
He would've been a fool to assume that Dulachán wasn't ready for anything but his training. The small grim-reaper esque Pokemon was ripe with envy after having been called in for another training session deep within the forests of Iceburgh. His hands cupped the metal of the lantern as he shivered, faint breaths and pants disrupting the everlasting soundtrack of silence. The world was dark now, covered in a veil of blackness that served to provide the perfect hiding spots for the creatures that went bump in the night. Pristine white covered the Earth, with faint shades of green poking from under the clumps of snowflakes that fell from the midnight colored sky. Giovanni moved quietly through the forest, his black fur-coat becoming victim to gusts of wind that always seemed to follow Iceburgh's weather, his Duskull floating casually at his side. The small ghoul Pokemon occasionally letting out a loud wail in discomfort ever so often. He stop for but a moment, before continuing again; Giovanni could only assume the little beast was making an attempt to lure Pokemon in their general direction.
Dull red orbs looked into the distance taking notice of the trees that were now beginning to shake in anticipation. His brow raised and his lips curled. He knew what this meant. Something was coming. Snapping his fingers he watched the cloaked Pokemon moved in front of him, with his hands wrapped behind his back.

Loyalty.
He had never known it in his entire life. So much so that he wasn't accustomed to it; the pleasant stench that stemmed from Dulachán's loyalty to his trainer perforated the air, causing Giovanni's lips to form into a twisted malicious grin that would make any man feel uncomfortable. There was something eerie about coming face to face with a carbon-copy, something of your exact likeness in species and yet somehow so vastly different that it presented itself as a ghostly image. And despite putting on a tough face, he knew that the opposing Duskull's fear was eating him alive. How? It was his eyes. They betrayed him so, they always would. Finding the Duskull's eyes locked with pools of blood red he could feel Dulachán's essence tearing through his brethren's very being. This was fear in its most primal form.
Drawing a quick breath, his eyes caught wind of the Duskull's shadow pulling towards him. Dulachán needed to move, and fast.
"Dulachán, Hex."
He had his orders and now it was his time to follow them. The crack of a dodge and he was now but a few meters to the right, his face obscured by the darkness that surrounded him. Raising his hands in the air a loud cackle emerged from his lips as the large eye floated above him, sending out hues of violet and magenta that sped towards his cousin in name only. Each ring knocking into the Duskull's side, leaving the poor beauty defenseless as the assault continued.
"Disable, follow it up with Shadow Sneak."
Nodding, his face was obscured by the light blue light that was admitting from his form. The wave was spreading quickly and within seconds it would be filling the ghoul's nostrils and attacking at his entire frame. Soon he would be motionless. Call it a cheap parlor trick, he was going to end this as quickly as he could so that he could return to the gym. Now moving at full speed, his shadow crept forward in a blaze of glory the oozing black liquid moving at full speed before pushing upward in a barrage of fists that knocked the demon into an opposing set of trees. The ghoul was finally succumbing to the effects of Loyalty.

The ghoul was finally succumbing to the effects of Dulachán's power, and his power was absolute. Yawning he clapped his hands together, all the while Dulachán crept from behind the shadows.
"Shadow Sneak, again."
The move went into motion for but a moment before the opposing Duskull found himself running from the battle.

He grimaced.
There weren't many things that got him excited, however growth happened to be one of his hot spots. There was something about watching a small weed blossom into the most wicked of flowers that sent chills down his spine; and had he to choose between roses and weeds well he preferred the former. Blood gems watched the ladybug make an appearance from behind the darkness of the trees, it's wings flapping and its body shaking in anticipation. The poor thing had just met its match as Dulachán's hands glowed a dark magenta and deep violet, forming into a medium baseball sized orb that was fired at the insect. Shadow Ball. Giovanni watched with a pleased look on his face, Dulachán was a creature of adaptation and clearly his adaptation was kicking in. He was learning and soon he would be evolving.
The attack collided and the bug Pokemon screamed. Shaking off its pain, the creature created a yellow box around itself, using Light Screen. Giovanni knew how this move worked though he had only seen it once or twice before. Snickering he snapped his fingers. If he couldn't kill the creature from brute force he would just burn it to death.
"Dulachán, use Will-O-Wisp."
Finger on his lip he watched intently as the blue ball of fire appeared in the ghoul's hand. Firing it off in a spectacular performance, his eyes grew wide as the ball sank through the yellow box and a fire completely encased Ledyba. Oh how reveled in it screams of torture and this only served to motivate him to pursue the creature once more.
"Shadow Ball, Dulachán..."
There was no hesitation as the blue flames occasionally covered the bug's frame causing it to scream, and the black orb only served to strengthen the frame. In the midst of this it attempted to use Bug Buzz, releasing a wave of pulsating red waves that faded only seconds after its appearance due to its lack of energy. The assault on the bug continued as Dulachán continued one after another, one Shadow Ball falling after another each one leaving small cracks in the Light Screen that had been created early. Eventually it fell to pieces, and the Shadow Balls were now having the ability to officially deal true pain and with true pain there came the bug's defeat. On its knees, the bug still couldn't move as the effects of Will-O-Wisp still lingered. Giovanni smiled.
"Finish this, Hex.."
Raising his hands to the sky, the ghoul created a large eye that released rings of magenta that destroyed the bug's will to fight.

By God he hated insects. His brow raised in discontent as the little beast came slithering from behind its hole in the ground to meet with Duskull. A deep sigh escaped his lips as he clapped his hands mentally telling Dulachán to prepare himself for another battle, the creature did as he was told and moved forward now face to face with the little thing. He smiled as the creature shook in fear once he got hold of his blood pool eyes that spoke of his malicious intent. The mischievous Duskull awaited his trainer's orders, his eyes staring down at the small insect that he couldn't help but want to snap in half.
"Dulachán use Shadow Sneak."
The crack of a dodge and he was out of arm's reach from the insect. A few meters away, he was standing with his blade still at his back and his face obscured by the darkness that was emitting from the night sky. The shadow was spreading quickly and within seconds it would be surrounding the insect and sending it flying in the air. Red gemstones looked back at the insect who was lying stiff as a board on the pillar that the hollow descended from. He was going to crack this poor thing, and he was going to enjoy every second of it.
Standing, the Scatterbug was now rushing ahead with its head pointed outward like a spear. Jumping forward it leaped right through the ghost Pokemon who was now slowly turning back to meet its assailant. Poor thing, tried to Tackle. Poor simple thing.
"Shadow Sneak, again."
His shadow was moving at full speed, the his hands now still pointed outward. Occasionally, his shadow would change directions moving in a diagonal fashion. Had the insect succumbed to the effects of the previous move he would be rendered ultimately useless even if it was for a brief moment giving him the advantage. Now at the insect's left side he made a thrust forward attempting to use his shadow to slam it into the wall. Each of the fists colliding into the insect and sending it into the ground. Brutality was the best way to describe it, and the ghost reveled in it. He loved it. He loved hearing the cries of pain that emitted from the insect. It was beauty. It was his madness.
Giovanni's lips curled as he watched the small thing make another, final attempt to stand. He enjoyed watching this as there was not a single move the poor thing could use that would even come near phasing Dulachán. As an insect he had the skills of an elderly woman when facing against a ghost, especially one as brutal and nasty as Dulachán. This time, he used Bug Bite, his small teeth trying to dig into the ghost's frame only to be tossed and slammed into the wall like a common rag doll. It was a sad thing to watch, poor thing was determined to win a loosing game. And for some reason Giovanni couldn't help but to pity the thing. Moving he patted the ghoul on his back and smiled.
"Leave him be, we must be going now."
Turning he left. The poor thing would soon find his worth at some point.

And some would scream You soon find you have few choices... I learned the voices died with me When I was a child, I'd sit for hours staring into open flame. When I was 16, my senses fooled me thought gasoline was on my clothes. I knew that something would always rule me... I knew the scent was mine alone. All you have is your fire and the place you need to reach.
As the leafy insect drew closer, the ghoul made his move. His body crouched just low enough to be at eye level with the insect's golden gems; now employing the skills of Shadow Sneak, did his shadow extend and lift right into the insect's face. The shadows moved fluidly, one after the other and were meant to knock the insect backward should they land. The greatest thing about Shadow Sneak was that the more light there was, the more the shadows could extend and being directly under the moonlight made this an opportunity. The shadows continued to throw their punches, all the while the ghoul could feel the effects of the battles beforehand slowly coming into place. He was growing tired, and weary of this. Yet, at the same time he couldn't help but secretly desire more opponents worthy of his stature.
"Hmm..." Giovanni whispered.
His whisper went unheard as the spunky Sewaddle ducked and dodged the barrages and dove towards Dulachán, the ground becoming a mere victim to the brute force that she carried. Though small, Giovanni could tell that she had been through enough battles in here day, so much so that it was painfully obvious that she wouldn't be giving up without kicking and screaming. Only some four years ago, Giovanni would have underestimated such a puny thing, but his transcendence into a Gym Leader changed this. He knew now that even the smallest of Pokemon could be a force to be reckoned with. As the insect drew closer she leaped into the air and released a barrage of Razor Leaves from her frame. Each leaf diving descended faster than she and slicing at Dulachán fabric. For the first time, the ghoul screamed. As the unsuspecting impact only served to worsen as the creature released a wave of green energy known as Struggle Bug. Giovanni smiled. It seemed that the little brute was finally getting the challenge he needed. Falling back the ghoul turned towards his trainer with a look unlike any other.
Giovanni didn't quite know how to describe it either; what he did know, however, was that it filled him with a sweet joy that made him release a laughter from his lips. His hands now on his hips he pointed back towards the bug.
"Come now, don't pout. Use Hex."
Dull ruby eyes widened when he was now met with the face of his insect-esque kin. Her form was now in front of the ghost and she was using Razor Leaf once again; this time the force behind the blow felt as though he was getting hit with a bag of bricks. The collision that came to follow sent Dulachán tumbling back like a rag-doll being taken advantage of by a child throwing a tantrum. As his body fell into the ground he felt his muscle tense in pain, which only grew as he tried to stand. Giovanni's laughter continued. But it subsided as the ghoul sprung forward and raised his hands in the air, the large round eye glowing above him as the rings of magenta were now dashing towards Sewaddle. Each one making its mark perfectly. As the Sewaddle slid through the dirt and the smoke, Giovanni took this opportunity to flip the tables.
"Use Will-O-Wisp."
Panting heavily, he proceeded to release the ball of blue flame that surrounded the little creature and dove directly onto his frame creating a burning sensation that made the leaf scream. She had just witnessed the true gap in their strength, something that only seemed to happen whenever Dulachán was in extreme pain. That burning pain would only prove to explain the ghoul's power. Standing in the darkness, the ghoul looked back at Giovanni and awaited orders.
"Shadow Sneak, follow up with Hex."
Faint breathes still leaking from his lips, his shadow dove forward and proceeded to lift the Sewaddle into the air throwing her into the glassy night sky. It was then that Dulachán used Hex. The magenta hues releasing into the air and slamming the poor thing to the ground sending smiles across his face. Adjusting his footing, Giovanni watched the creature slam into the ground and proceed to lay there before slowly shuffling off into the distance. She had been defeated.

He was done. Taking notice of the final insect he would reach out and pat the small ghoul on his shoulder; normally the beast would deny any help or anything that would make him seem the least bit weak, but he had grown tired of the same battle over and over, so much so that he willingly threw himself into his Poke Ball and allowed for his presence to be hidden until they reached their icy home. Giovanni would smile at this before turning and leaving behind the small Weedle that had lived to see another day.
