Cold shivers went down Julia’s body as she stepped out of Iceburgh’s train station. Was she really still in Nue or did she somehow manage it to teleport to Christmas Land? Despite having summer around the corner, people in Iceburgh were wearing thick coats, wooden-made hats and fluffy earmuffs. ‘Man, this has nothing to do with Bayonadaville’, Julia muttered. Luckily, she was a farsighted person and had dressed up for the trip accordingly. Under her cream colored coat, a black high-collar pullover kept her neck and, more specifically, her throat protected from the cold breeze.
Unlike Julia's other pokémon, little Camille, the Azurill, had insisted in remaining outside of its pokéball. Of course, it immediately regretted it once they had stepped out of the train. It jumped into its trainer’s arms as soon as its tail touched the cold ground. ‘Now, now, Camille’, Julia started calmly as she let the Azurill find a comfortable place under her coat, only it’s little ears and eyes popping out. ‘I told you they had cold weather here, yet you insisted in staying out of your pokéball’. But it was almost impossible to scold Camille. The little blue mouse was always so sweet and loving Julia couldn’t bring up the courage to get the least bit mad at it.
While walking through the main streets of Iceburgh, Julia took out a guide of her coat’s pocket. It was a city guide filled with different colored post-it notes. ‘Let’s see…’, she muttered as she looked through the pages. Now that she had gotten used to her new life in Bayonadaville, things had gotten less stressful and Julia was starting to have more days off to spend sightseeing. Nue was a completely unknown region to her, for why visiting Iceburgh was one of the musts in her to-do list. ‘Aha!’, she then exclaimed, immediately stopping in her tracks. ‘They have an ancient temple here Camille, the Temple of Insight. Should we go visit it?’ Azurill nodded happily in response but didn’t move too much as it didn’t want to get unnecessarily in contact with Iceburgh’s cold air.
There was a problem, though. The guide did explain a little bit about the temple’s history, but it did not indicate the way that leaded to it. Julia looked through the guide from the first page to the last one, hoping to have skipped that information. But she did not. ‘Great’, she sentenced a little upset. How can someone make a guide but not include any maps in it? She sighed. Now she would have to ask a complete stranger, a fact that would force her into socializing, something she did not feel quite excited about. ‘Better to do it quick and forget about it as soon as possible’, she then told to herself as she tugged a random passerby by the arm, not even looking at him when doing so.
When she looked up to ask the stranger for the way that would lead her to the Temple of Insight, her heart skipped a beat and her face went blank. W-Who was that? Black hair, pale skin and eyes that resemble those of the devil. Frankly, he was kind of scary. In her state of shock Julia could even recognize a phrase tattooed on his neck in what seemed to be Latin. Now, any normal person would have ignored it and immediately let go of his arm, but that wouldn’t fit Julia’s personality at all. Even though she felt intimidated by his looks, her lawyer-mind forced her into deciphering the quote on his neck first –after all, it’s not everyday you can put your Latin knowledge into practice–. ‘Nec possum tecum vivere, nec sine te’, she repeated in her mind slowly as she finally got the meaning of it: I can live neither with you, nor without you. A beautiful phrase that, however, seemed to fit its owner a lot despite his looks.
Satisfied with her mental working, suddenly the girl realized that she was still grabbing the boy’s arm. She let go of it abruptly before speaking up. ‘U-Um… e-excuse me!’, she said nervously as she backed up a little. ‘I’m looking for the Temple of Insight, but I don’t know which way I should take… W-Would you mind helping me out, please?’ She felt her cheeks burning in crimson fire as she got the words out of her mouth. Julia always got a little nervous when talking to strangers, but the boy’s intimidating looks made her feel more uneasy than usual. Unable to keep her chocolate orbs on his ruby ones, Julia had to look to the side occasionally as she waited for him to answer.

I WAS A CHILD
i heard voices some would sing
And some would scream You soon find you have few choices... I learned the voices died with me When I was a child, I'd sit for hours staring into open flame. Something in it had a power, could barely tear my eyes away. All you have is your fire... and the place you need to reach - don't you ever tame your demons, but always keep 'em on a leash. When I was 16, my senses fooled me thought gasoline was on my clothes. I knew that something would always rule me... I knew the scent was mine alone. All you have is your fire and the place you need to reach.
The smell of chestnuts filled his nostrils.
His hands cupped the fabric of his collar, with his fingers pushing down his sunglasses. An ethereal trail of ivory crept from his mouth as he shivered. Virgin white covered the Earth with snowflakes falling against pale skin, and the sound of snow crunching beneath his feet only served to add to the idea that Iceburgh was stuck in a permanent state of winter. Though the world was not dark, it was still covered in a blanket of pristine dark with faint glitters of white providing light. Giovanni moved quietly through the city, his black trench coat covering most of his frame with the exception of his exposed legs that peeked from his harem pants, the Gourgeist known as Orphne trailing at his side wrapped in a black coat of Giovanni's own weaving. Momentarily, he opened his palms allowing for the snowflakes to form a small cluster before he crushed them and watched as each individual flake fell the ground below. It was easy for Giovanni to adjust to this weather, his time in Snowpoint had made absolute sure of that. However, despite this, he absolutely adored the weather. There was something about the chilling breeze that came with the cold that made him feel at home; maybe it was the fact that the cold reminded of his own soul. Cold. Dark.
Red eyes looked to the streets in the direction of the train that was currently coming to a stop. His brow raised. He hadn't been on the train since his time in Iceburgh, but he knew that the train carried tourists that only showed up to visit the Temple of Insight or Deerling City. He assumed no one aboard was here for Deerling since the small town was in the opposite direction. Bending down he scooped Orphne into his arms and allowed for the creature to make her place in the middle of his trench coat, using the hair-like extensions she called arms as anchors to keep her afloat. Pulling a cigarette from his pocket and into his mouth, he lit it quickly taking a small puff. The cigarettes kept him warm.
Continuing, he moved down the streets up until he felt something grab his arm. Whipping his head backwards, his eyes caught wind of brown orbs that were now locked with his own. His eyes moved down to study her. Every facial expression, gesture, eye twitch, hand motion. Nothing escaped his watchful eye as he watched the girl watch him, his face maintaining the same emotionless demeanor throughout. Cheeks as red as flames, and hair darker than almonds he couldn't help but note that in terms of appearance the girl was rather bland. Befitting of a Shakespearean play. Mentally he smiled. Small golden orbs took notice of the water-mouse that appeared from the girl's jacket. Orphne watched her just as curiously as her trainer watched the girl. Pulling the cigarette from his mouth, his brow raised once more.
"The Temple of Insight? A pity, that you can't find it since it's right there on the map."
Moving his fingers to the small map, he placed his slender fingers on a small dot directly in the corner. The temple stood in the mountain side of Iceburgh, making it particularly hard to find for anyone who didn't know where it was. However, Giovanni was never a man who took pity on the stupid, or at least those he supposed to be lacking in some departments. Slipping his fingers across the paper he created a small unspoken trail that, if she wasn't looking carefully, she would easily miss. Hands dropping to his side he sighed.
The blush on her cheeks only grew harder in crimson color as she felt the boy’s eyes examining her curiously. Even its Gourgeist, which was also half-covered under its trainer’s coat, was taking a close look at Julia’s little blue mouse-pokémon. Getting so much attention all of a sudden was something she did not feel all that comfortable with. If socializing was already a difficult mission to accomplish, standing other people’s looks was almost fatiguing. Unfortunately for her, though, the dark-haired made it to embarrass her even more with his response.
His pale, yet slender fingers, pointed directly to a spot in her guide. There was actually a map in the guide!? Julia’s eyes widened in surprise as mentally she prayed for the Gods to make her invisible to the stranger’s ruby orbs. It had to be admitted, in this sense, that Julia’s marvelous intelligence did not cover all the fields, as she was rather clumsy when it came to reading maps. Let’s be just frank about this, her sense of orientation sucked. She would walk down the street from its upper side and walk into a shop, but when leaving it she would not be able to remember where direction she had taken. Embarrassing. That’s the only thing that popped in her mind as she scolded herself for being so light-headed. If she had paid more attention to the guide now she wouldn’t have to bear with this uncomfortable situation.
One thing was for sure, though. Was it really necessary to reveal her the truth in the way he did? ‘A pity, that you can’t find it since it’s right there on the map'. Really? Of course Julia didn’t have enough social experience as to tell if that was an ordinary comment, but to her there were many other ways to say it. It would’ve been definitely better if he just indicated the right spot on the map. Saying it was ‘a pity’ was definitely not a comment Julia had enjoyed. ‘O-Oh!’ She said, trying to keep her cool and sound as innocently as she usually does. ‘I thing I got a little sleepy during the trip and overlooked the guide's map’. An awkward laugh escaped her lips as she spelled those last words. At least he had helped her out and most surely she had just taken his comment too seriously.
There was another little problem, though. He did tell her the way to the Temple and Julia actually watched and listened closely to his indications, but remembering it was too much to ask. ‘Um…’ Here eyes were still fixed on the map as the male trainer asked her if there was anything else he could do for her. Actually, there was, but maybe that would be too much to ask? The little angel and the little devil in her mind started to fight over the pros and contras of what she was about to ask. ‘Would you…’ She started, trailing off a little and avoiding eye contact as she searched for the right words. C’mon, there are no right words for a question as simple as that, are there? ‘…mind…’ But it was still such a hard thing to do. Plus, it would imply spending more time with him and actually get to socially interact with somebody else than her pokemon. ‘…taking me there?’ Now that did sound weird. Asking someone to ‘take you’ somewhere was typical of friends or buddies, but not strangers. ‘I-I mean, um… I-I don’t think I can find the way by myself, not even with a map’. Ashamed, she looked down for a brief moment before working up the courage to look up again and force a timid smile.

Fear.
The stench penetrated the air, and how he reveled in its taste akin to sweet ecstasy. Oh how, the demon of Iceburgh relished in its glory, basking in its scent as it dripped from her open pores. He couldn't help but curl his lips in anticipation, reveling in the idea of dragging the girl into his little house of horrors and having his Pokemon make the girl fall to her knees. Alas, he would never act on these inhibitions that was how the Zoppé family had met their demise many centuries prior. And though Giovanni proved to be a man made in the devil's flesh, he would not succumb to his family's long-standing tradition. He was a better man than that. Dismembering the thoughts from his mind, he raised a brow, had she really just asked for his company?
Most people took one listen to the words that slept from his silver tongue an found him uneasy. Many of which would end up leaving feeling as though they no longer wanted to be bothered, or rather feel uncomfortable by his presence. And yet, here was the brave soul that chose to stay and continue to occupy her time with the icy demon. Brave. Desperate. His mind couldn't pick which words would truly do the girl justice and his inability clawed at the back of his mind. Like a monster caught within the limelight he felt the pressure of wanting to do a good deed crashing down on him. Should he help her, he would be seen as a better person.
Though Giovanni desperately wanted to snap her in half like a twig, his lips curled into a malicious grin and he move to slip his sunglasses back onto his face. Fleshy fingers slipped into his pocket before he turned his back to her.
"Put some pep in your step and keep up, less you want to get left behind. It's never good to get lost in a place full of icy devils."
He did not wait for her to move, nor did he even see if she was following behind him before he proceeded to move in the direction of the temple. He hated going there. Because of his ghostly appearance, he was often shunned by the monks whenever he passed by or he was given the option to convert or die. All options were beyond his liking so he generally avoided the place. And yet, here he was showing a stranger the path to the one place where God outlawed his demons. Why was he helping her? Well, he was just being kind.
He was definitely something out of the normal. It was true that Julia had not interacted with many people in her life, but she was certain that was the first time she had met someone like him. The way he looked, the way he talked, even the way he stood on his feet… who in earth was he? Whichever the answer to that question might have been, there was something for sure. He did change the expression on his face, even if it had been for a brief moment. Was it really that surprising to ask someone to help you find a place by walking you there? Placing her index finger on her lower lip, Julia started to meditate about that matter. Any other person would have sensed Giovanni’s eyes on her, but the brunette was so deep in her thoughts it almost seemed like her spirit was not on earth anymore.
When she heard the dark-haired respond, Julia saw him already a few steps away. Wait a second, he agreed to accompany her to the temple? Awesome! Now she wouldn’t get lost. However, her moment of relief and happiness evaporated almost immediately as she rested her eyes on his back. No, he certainly did not look like a stranger you would approach; even less ask for his company. But it was Julia, after all, and she usually acted before thinking –probably the reason why she always regretted what came out of her mouth. What if he was some kind of… criminal? He certainly did look like one. But Julia’s mother had always told her not to judge people based on their appearance, so what else could she do?
Clumsily, Julia started to follow after him, yet keeping a safe distance between them. ‘W-Wait a second!’ She then said, grabbing him again by the arm to force him to a halt. ‘What do you exactly mean by… i-icy devils?’ She tightened her grab on him, looking clearly uneasy with the idea of meeting some scary creature during her visit to the Temple of Insight. He was just talking metaphorically… right? Yes, she was scared. Ghost pokémon had never been her strength as she had been pranked by them whenever she wandered near the Victory Road. Frankly, they had been really mean to her, so she didn’t have any good memories of Ghost-related matters. ‘You…’ She said. ‘You’re kidding, right?’ Her glazed eyes looked up to meet his deep bloody orbs. ‘…right?’

From behind a darkened veil, a brow raised.
There weren't many things that brought him great pleasure, but oh how he reveled in the fear that was dripping from each individual pore like sweet nectar. It was something only a twisted man could love. And being the cause of her distress and torment was an added bonus to an already fine cuisine. That look in her eyes of something eerie to come only served to produce a light hearted chuckle from his lips and a quick jerk of his arm, that effectively loosened her hold on him. Orphne felt this, pulling her small frame from behind Goivanni's person to see what the commotion was. That malicious grin that her kind was known for placed upon her face as she stared down Julia with peaked curiosity. This only made the man's cackle grow louder as he patted the creature on her head in reassurance that everything was alright. Poor sweet Julia, might she come close to her end less she learn not to bother someone as malevolent as she.
"Poor thing, seems you've upset little Orphne. You know, ghosts don't take politely to those who shun them."
Releasing a yawn from his lips he continued forward, ushering the girl to follow behind. For but a moment he said nothing, keeping his normal pace and refusing to allow her to stand at his side less the whole community find someway to stitch the two together in acquaintance. However, abruptly he stopped, his hands still deep within his pockets and Orphne now snuggled back in her original resting place. Turning back to face her, he pulled his glasses down and stared at her intently.
"I don't take kindly to being called a liar. There are a lot of wicked things in this world but in the Temple of Insight, well that's the last place you have to worry about any ghosties trying to come after you, love. Frankly, the only thing you have to worry about there are bald men and bad wardrobes."
