The day has come. With as much promotion as possible, the League Exhibition Matches were set to begin today in Nue. The wilderness surrounding the Ranger Station seems to be have been tamed by the loyal rangers stationed in Nue in preparation, and people are flocking to the area to fill up the grand stands. For those unable to make the journey, the cameras are rolling - ready to capture every bit of the battle! Screens larger than life circle the arena to display all the relevant battle statistics, and the arena itself is standard League decor.
Once you've shuffled pass the popcorn vendors and taken a seat, you're treated to the clear voice of the announcer, who preps the crowd in a display of engaging speech and gets everyone ready for the upcoming matches.
Behind the scenes, the two getting ready to battle are waiting in their own rooms - all the kind of preparations one could wish for in the world and more. Once the time has come, the contestants are announced and introduced as the enter the field, taking up their places on each end. The referees then explain the rules for the crowd and the match begins!
This will be a 3v3 Singles battle, substitutions allowed.
BATTLE RULINGS
One mega evolution will be allowed per character per match. However, it should be noted that all matches will be broadcasted in regional television, and so anything participants do will have site-wide implications.
Failure to reply to your match within 72 hours will result in disqualification, unless prior notification has been given.
All battles will be constantly looked over and reviewed by our battle coaches to avoid unfair methods or power playing. Minor faults will be treated as the yellow cards of a soccer game, and three minor faults will accumulate into a red card, or disqualification.
Battle calculations must be done with Pokémon Showdown's calculator, and each post must include a detailed battle summary. Examples can be found here.
A step-by-step guide to Showdown's Calculator can be found here.[newclass=".match a"]font-family:inherit;font-size:inherit;line-height:inherit;[/newclass][newclass="#vs"]text-shadow:-3px 0 #000,0 3px #000,3px 0 #000,0 -3px #000;[/newclass]
He may be a little too excited, compared tow hat people might think he should be. He is a Professor, after all. Thinker, not fighter, and all that brouhaha. But there had been a small period in his life between his Professorship and his graduation in which he had been a travelling Trainer, and in all honesty, he enjoyed a good battle from time to time.
In all honesty, it was the influence of Mandragora. She was the one who insisted they needed to be strong, that they needed to always be prepared for any situation, which made him train his Pokemon. Most Professors that he knew simply kept to themselves and worked at their craft, leaving their Pokemon as assistants or pets or companions. But he had always taken a little bit of time, however much he could spare, for training and such. Mandragora was kind, yes, polite and calm, but she was… scary in the battlefield. Even through all these years, neither Morgana nor Osiris nor Jupiter nor any of his Pokemon could take her in a fight. He didn’t really know why, but he didn’t question it. Mandragora was almost like his mother at this point, and he’d root (pun intended) for her any day.
Personally, he just thought that, by his position, some merit of battling strength might be necessary. He was to defend himself from people who wanted his research and facilities. He was to defend himself from impetuous trainers who thought they could impose themselves on him and his position. It was a Professor’s job to defend and aid those who are new in their careers as Trainers or Coordintors or such, and someone with a Staryu and a Lileep couldn’t fulfill that duty. That’s why he trained. Because he felt it was his duty.
And that’s why he joined the exhibition matches. It was a good practice, to check if he was still up to the times in battling ability. While he did train with his own Pokemon many a time, he hadn’t battle someone else in ages. He was rusty. Perhaps it was time to exercise his strategic mind once more.
He had made sure his outfit was perfect, not a thread out of place. Mimoza had helped him with it. The blue of his jacket was deep, sapphire, like his eyes. His glasses polished, shining like the brilliant buttons and fastenings on the jacket. The white trim was perfect, untarnished, not moved by a single wrinkle. His hair was, as the children say, on fleek. In his jacket’s pocket, three marble-sized Poke Balls held his choices for the battle. He felt it was very… balanced. Except for the last choice, of course. Even if it was balanced, it was made completely sentimentally. As the Fossil Professor, he had to represent Paleontology somehow.
He smiled as he walked into the arena, unhurried and untarried. There was an impeccable composure in his stride, in his way of moving, in his knowing eyes which scanned over the battlefield, the yelling of the crowds and the booming of the announcer only background noise in his ears. They probably said some phrases, welcoming him, but alas they were lost in his ears. He adjusted his glasses, a movement not done out necessity, but simply habit.
Deep in his home territory, the Wilds of Nue, this venue was planned to take place. It had been some time since his last battle with another person, he'd been occupying his time between patrols with wild Pokemon, although it wasn't much challenge. When general attack capabilities that were predictably obvious were rampant, there wasn't much fun in fighting wild Pokemon, unless you found that rare beast of a mon that gave you a run for your money. A battle with a trainer, on the other hand, often proved much more difficult. A wild Pokemon fights to defend itself, a trainer fights to defeat you, and summons all their skill and ability in order to achieve that goal.
This was why he was so easily attracted to League battles. Even though he had the tendency to lose these things to the more serious trainers, he still had a lot of fun facing a truly challenging opponent. This wasn't the true tournament, but rather an exhibition match, to get everyone pumped for the main event. Like a light sample of the action to come. Even still, that didn't mean his opponent today was going to be a light challenge. With his three pokeballs of choice stowed in his pocket, he stepped out onto the field, causing the spectators to pipe up. The announcer gave a few lines about the battle, but Rikkan's attention was focused on the other trainer across the field.
The exhibition matches were League officials only, and this guy looked quite well dressed for the occasion. He didn't recognize the guy as a Ranger, although that didn't mean much as he hadn't met many of the Nue Rangers yet. With a nod, the white ranger reached into his pocket and withdrew a pokeball, immediately tossing it into the air. As soon as the light faded, an Electivire was left standing on Rikkan's side of the field, ready for battle. "ELEEEC!" After a month or so since the announcement, the League Exhibition Matches were about to begin, and the crowd began to die down at the anticipated battle. Whatever happened here, he was going to play his best cards, and he wasn't going to regret it, even if he lost.
A Ranger? How interesting. Had no other Professor aligned themselves to the event? It seemed like such a sad fact. Yes, he was younger than much of his colleagues, but the fact that he was probably the only Professor to sign up for this event was somewhat saddening. He didn’t know exactly what this meant and what this painted him as, but he hoped that he could paint a good picture for Professors all over the region. Nue’s people had to know that they were going to be able to depend on their Professors and other authority figures of the League.
Almost instinctively, he adjusted his glasses, eyes scanning over the target. An Electivire… Strong. Somewhat fast, although not the fastest. They were famous for their Motor Drive ability, as well for their ridiculously powerful Electric attacks. He could go with Mandragora… But she would be at a disadvantage, and, plus, save the best for last and all that brouhaha. That only left two choices, and he already knew what he was going to go with. He smiled and waved as the announcer introduced the Fossil Professor, head of his field, and the other fanfare. He liked titles, but it wasn’t something he liked flaunting. One hand slipped into his jacket, and pulled out one of the marbles. He knew exactly what Pokemon to use. It was almost his go-to choice as his first Pokemon. The announcer gave out the notice that Arthur was to take the first move, by the coin flip. With a press of the button, the Poke Ball opened, a flash of light filling the air as the capsule released Osiris, the Professor’s Alakazam. The Psi Pokemon’s serious gaze quickly fell upon the opponent, his spoons floating around him before grasping them firmly.
”Osiris, are you ready for battle? I aim to win.” The Professor asked to the Alakazam as the roar of the crowd began to die down. The Alakazam seemed to stroke his mustache in an instinctual form, at the same time the Professor adjusted his glasses again. It seemed natural for both of them.
”By your command, Professor.” the Alakazam replied mentally, the telepathic reply only audible to the people on the battlefield. ”I wish you luck, opponents.” the Psi Pokemon finished stoically, before folding its legs, assuming a meditative pose, eyes staring and ready. As if it was natural, the Psi Pokemon began floating, in the air, ready to battle.
”Very well, Osiris – start with Calm Mind, then attack.” Arthur commanded mentally. Perhaps the greatest strength of fighting alongside Osiris was that no one would hear his battle commands – telepathy was a strong suit that no one could really match.
And with that, the battle begun, the Alakazam seemingly closing its eyes in focus. The Calm Mind move only lasted but a second, but there was a visible blue-ish glow that lit around the body of the Alakazam for a second, before dying down. This boost would slowly grow, and quickly, the attack and defense to special attacks would be devastating. The Alakazam kept his eyes closed, but the grip on his spoons tightened for a second. There was a sense of… foreboding. Arthur knew it well – Future Sight was an incredibly powerful move, nearly unstoppable.
Suddenly, the Psi Pokemon opened its eyes, and one arm rose, pointing a spoon at the opponent Pokemon. With a sheer rush, a wave of telekinetic force flew out, straight at the Electric-Type. Psychic, the most famous move within the Type. It even had a chance to wound the defenses of the target. The power of the Telekinetic wave seemed to shift the earth under it, leaving a trail of dust.
Arthur smirked a little. This was going to be a good fight. He hadn’t had one in a long time. .
Soon enough the crowd began to calm down, the air tense with anticipation. So Alakazam can speak? Rik had heard that it was the smartest Pokemon, but he didn't suspect it could actually communicate with it's trainer. "Storm, let's do this!" All of a sudden, without any command, the Alakazam began to take action, though it's move was all too familiar to the white ranger. The sheen of color all but gave away one of Yuri's signature moves, Calm Mind. The increased defenses on the opponent would make it pointless to fire off from afar, given Storm's already weak ranged capability. Of course, being a psychic type, Alakazam was quite powerful when it came to long range attacks.
The Alakazam remained silent and still, as if taunting the Electivire. "Rrrrr.... Eleeeee?!?!" "Hey... What are you doing?!?!" The silence didn't last very long, the Alakazam opened it's eyes and pointed at the electric type with a spoon. What resulted was a wave of telekinetic energy, barely detectable by the naked eye if only for the disturbance it left on the ground.
"Lift off!"
The Electivire quickly leapt into the air to the side, sliding through the air via magnetic power as the wave of Psychic came careening by. Rikkan himself narrowly sidestepped it as it continued on to slam against the reinforced siding of the stadium. Rikkan whirled back to face the battle. "Flash and Burn, Storm!" Now coasting along with Magnet Rise, the Electivire flew towards the Alakazam, but as it drew near, he hrld up a paw, a white orb nestled within, which immediately erupted into a brilliant Flash of blinding light.
With the opponent potentially blinded, Storm rushed in with an electrified fist, a Thunderpunch aimed straight at the Alakazan's chest.
