Tobias's wanderings took him far him his new home, and beyond the city limits. He looked back at Tyntill Town, seeing the high-rise buildings of the financial district at one side, and the clustered suburban homes of the residential at the other. He had gotten beyond the town and now found himself in some fields.
"These must be the grasslands I've heard about," he thought to himself.
The sun was beginning its gradual slide into the evening. Tobias knew that he would not get much done today, considering how far he had managed to get himself from his house. He noticed some flying-type pokemon flocking in the distance, by the trees. He realized that he had not had the chance to train his pokemon since he had been in the wilds. Well, evidently there were pokemon here too. He decided to kill what was left of the day right then and there.
Tobias headed further into the grassland, ready to call out one of his pokemon. Evolution was on his mind, and it would take plenty of this work in order to reach it.

Tobias continued along the grassland, noticing that the grass was becoming quite tall the further he walked from Tyntill Town. About a mile back, the blades grazed his ankles, but here they were starting to reach up to his thighs.
Suddenly, he tripped. He found himself face-down in the dirt.
"What the hell was that?" he questioned himself.
He heard an odd, gurgling noise. It sounded organic. Tobias pulled himself to his feet and noticed a gulpin behind him. He had tripped over a pokemon. The gulpin looked up to him, looking frightened and confused.
"Well, at least I've found what I'm looking for," he said to himself as he pulled out a pokeball.
He called out his skorupi. Arkantos materialized from the pokeball in front of him. The scorpion pokemon noticed the gulpin, and readied himself for his opponent.
"Arkantos!" Tobias shouted, "Use acupressure! Then night slash!"
The skorupi applied pressure to its stress points, executing an acupressure technique. Subsequently, he managed to improve his own evasion, allowing him to more easily avoid hits. The bug-type pokemon followed up by raising his stinger, and slicing violently at the gulpin in a night slash attack,
The gulpin sustained the hit, and was visibly hurt. The blob pokemon responded by opening its gaping mouth, and spraying poisonous fluid at Arkantos. The toxic attack hit the skorupi directly, but as Arkantos was also a poison-type, it was completely ineffective.
The gulpin followed up with a gunk shot attack, launching more poisonous material towards the skorupi in a concussive barrage. However, Arkantos managed to scuttle out of the way, avoiding the attack.
Tobias knew that his pokemon, other than night slash and acupressure, only knew poison-type attacks. He would have to win this battle with the same technique.
The trainer shouted, "Again! Use acupressure! Then night slash!"
Arkantos once again applied its acupressure technique, this time improving his speed. He followed up with another night slash. The gulpin took the hit, but still held steadfast.
Tobias seemed a little surprised, having estimated that this attack would render it unable to battle any further. He examined the blob pokemon, and noticed it seemed to be bracing itself. It was using stockpile, and the additional defense from the tension allowed it to sustain the hit.
Before Tobias could offer another command, the gulpin opened its mouth and attacked by launching accreted material at the scorpion pokemon in a spit up attack. It was a direct hit, but Arkantos still had plenty of fight left.
Having sacrificed its defensive boost, Tobias was confident that the next hit would take it out.
"Arkantos! Night slash!"
Arkantos leaped towards the blob pokemon and thrust its stinger at it, slicing in a night slash attack. Finally, the gulpin collapsed on itself, defeated and unable to battle further.
"Good work," Tobias said as he began to turn.
The skorupi scuttled behind as Tobias went further into the grass, to find more opponents.

Tobias and Arkantos ambled through the grasslands, until something caught the trainer's eye. He noticed a blitzle, running along the grass, all alone. He thought it was strange - such pokemon were supposed to travel in large numbers. Regardless, Tobias intended to get the jump on this pokemon.
"Arkantos, use toxic spikes!" he shouted.
The skorupi prepared a barrage of poison-tipped spikes, and tossed them onto the ground. As the blitzle ran past, it reacted painfully, having managed to poke itself on the trap. It slowed to a stop, burdened with pain, as it turned its head and eyed the trainer and his skorupi. The zebra pokemon had been afflicted with poisoning.
The blitzle reacted by releasing a blast of electrical energy from its body, in a shock wave attack. Arkantos was hit by the charge, and sustained some damage.
Tobias went on, "Use acupressure! Then venoshock!"
The skorupi used acupressure, and successfully increased its special attack efficiency. He went on to release a pulse of poison material from his body at the blitzle. The venoshock attack hit, and did considerable damage to the poison-afflicted pokemon.
The blitzle charge forward at the skorupi, and became enveloped in flames.
Tobias's eyes widened at the sight. He had not expected it to know a fire-type attack.
"Arkantos! Dodge!"
The skorupi had not enough time to react, and was struck directly with flame charge. He sustained heavy damage from the hit, but was still able to fight.
"Use venoshock! Then night slash!"
Arkantos gathered himself and released another pulse of toxic material at the blitzle. Coupled with the increasingly damaging poison, the attack was particularly effective. The blitzle stumbled back. The scorpion pokemon then raised its stinger, and slashed violently at the zebra pokemon in a night slash attack. The final blow managed to knock the blitzle from its feet. It collapsed to the ground, unable to fight any further.
Tobias looked to Arkantos. He was impressed with his pokemon's performance. He had actually expected the flame charge attack to render him unable to battle further. He could see that the skorupi had taken considerable damage, however, and drew his pokeball to call him back.
"You've done well," he said as the scorpion pokemon dematerialized into his capsule.
Tobias went on further into the fields, to find more wild pokemon.

Tobias continued to wade through the increasingly tall grass, as he noticed a pokemon rustling through the blades. He readied a pokeball as he sneaked closer. The pokemon's head emerged from the grass - it was a litleo. Tobias figured the lion pokemon must have been chasing that blitzle.
Tobias called out his pawniard. He felt almost reluctant to do so, as he recognized the litleo as being a fire-type. However, all of his pokemon had a weakness to fire.
As Edge materialized in the grass, it used its blades to hack at the brush, clearing space between him and his opponent, as well as starling the litleo.
"Iron defense! Then thunder wave!" he shouted.
Edge clenched the metal parts of his body, putting himself in a more defensive state in an iron defense technique. He proceeded to release a jolt of electricity towards the litleo in a thunder wave attack. The lion pokemon cringed as the electrical energy surged through him, inflicting him with paralysis.
The litleo quickly responded with a take down attack, throwing himself on top of Edge. Given his increased defense, and steel-type advantage, the normal attack did minimal damage.
The litleo, still on top of Edge, then opened its mouth and began to produce flames. The trainer looked on with concern as he judged that Edge was about to take a fire fang attack. However, paralysis overcame the lion pokemon, and prevented it from executing its attack. Tobias smirked.
"Use night slash! Then scary face!" Tobias shouted.
Edge shoved the lion pokemon away from him, and then hacked forward in a night slash attack. As the litleo cringed in pain, the pawniard went on to contort its face into a threatening display, inflicting fear in the lion pokemon and successfully lowering his speed.
The litleo gave no immediate retaliation, overburdened by paralysis, and discouraged by fear.
"Night slash again!"
Edge prepared his blade, then lunged forward and delivered a final night slash attack on the young lion pokemon. The litleo collapsed - it could not battle any further.
"Good work," Tobias commented as he turned around and began to wade back towards Tyntill Town. Edge followed behind.
The sun was beginning to give the landscape a pale orange tint. He knew he did not want to be out in the grasslands during nightfall. However, he thought that he had come far enough that he would probably find another wild pokemon on the way back.

Tobias and Edge did not get far before the two of them noticed a big, plump figure bobbing around in the grass. The creature featured a gigantic tongue, which Tobias found to be quite repulsive. He recognized this species. He had never seen it in person before, but he recognized lickitung - probably from a book or from a television program.
"Alright, normal-type," he said to Edge, but mostly to himself, "this is going to be easy."
Edge hustled to get in front of Tobias, ready for battle.
"Use thunder wave! Then metal claw!" Tobias shouted.
Edge released a charge of electrical energy from his body at the lickitung. The tongue pokemon was startled as it was wrapped with the electricity - it had not yet even noticed the pawniard in the tall grass.
Edge went on to emerge from the foliage and raise his claw, ready to strike with a metal claw attack. However, he was intercepted as the lickitung responded with a metal claw of its own. It had used a me first maneuver to counter the pawniard's attack. However, due to typing, Edge sustained only minor damage.
The lickitung cringed up after delivering its blow the paralysis was taking effect. Tobias noticed this, and issued more commands.
"Metal claw! Then night slash!"
Edge attempted a metal claw attack again, hacking at the lickitung. The normal-type stumble back as this attempt hit directly.
The lickitung opened its mouth wide, inadvertently extending its tongue and disgusting Tobias. The creature attacked with screech, emitting a horrible noise. Edge cringed as his defensive efficiency fell in reaction to the attack.
The pawniard gathered himself and leaped toward the lickitung. He struck with a night slash attack, delivering enough damage to knock the lickitung from its feet. The normal-type pokemon collapsed to the ground, unable to fight.
Tobias looked to the sky again. The orange tint of twilight was becoming prevalent. He knew that he would have to take no more detours if he intended to get home at a reasonable time. He called back his pawniard to his pokeball, and began to head back towards Tyntill Town.
