The sun was high in the sky as Tobias walked through the rough. There was not a cloud. A vivid blue sky stretched overhead, turning pale towards the horizon. The terrain seemed inhospitable – he wondered how a pokemon would be able to survive here. But, he had heard that he could potentially find a houndour here, which he desired for his team.
He had spent time researching the wild pokemon of Nue, and designated houndour as one of the species which he would try to add to his team. Still, he knew that his search could easily turn fruitless. He intended on using any other discoveries as training fodder for his pokemon. The matter of evolution was still at hand, and his whole team had a long way to go. Regardless of his findings, he was going to get something worthwhile out of this excursion. Tobias knew well that the path to greatness was paved with much hardship.

As he traversed the rough terrain, Tobias came upon two durants approaching from behind a bend. The looked at him menacingly. He was in their territory. Knowing a battle was imminent, he grabbed two pokeballs, and called out Nash and Edge. The sneasel and pawniard materialized in front of him, and assumed offensive stances towards the durants.
Tobias shouted attack orders, “Nash, screech and feint attack! Edge, use thunder wave and night slash!”
Nash emitted a horrible shriek in a screech attack, successfully causing one of the durants to cringe, and lower its defenses. Edge released a bolt of electricity from his body, striking the other durant and inflicting paralysis.
The durant with lower defense rusted forward, in an iron head attack towards Nash. Nash avoided the hit, and counterattacked by leaping behind the ant pokemon and striking with feint attack. Edge assisted by using night slash on the same durant, knocking it out.
The other durant, slowed by its condition, began to make its way up to Edge to attack.
Tobias looked off to the distance, and noticed three more durants approaching to the scene. He took a deep breath as he braced himself for the coming fray.
“Nash, use swords dance and feint attack! Edge, use iron defense and night slash!”
Nash assumed his swords dance form, increasing his attack efficiency. He rushed forward and struck the paralyzed durant with feint attack.
Edge assumed a defensive stance and prepared his body for strikes. The pawniard followed up by attacking the same durant again, rendering it unable to battle.
The three additional durants were upon them.
Tobias shouted, “Nash, use feint attack! Edge, use thunder wave and night slash!”
He hated issuing the same attack orders, but he knew that dark-type moves were the only attacks he could use that would prove effective.
The sneasel disappeared into the rocks and boulders, and emerged behind the durants, and struck one with feint attack.
The pawniard released another jolt of electricity, striking one of the durants and inducing paralysis. He followed up by striking the same durant that Nash had just attacked with night slash. The durant fell, unable to battle further.
Two durant remained able to battle. The paralyzed one cringed up, overtaken by its condition and unable to attack. The other attacked Nash with crunch, catching him in its big, swinging jaws. As a dark-type, the sneasel was able to sustain the damage.
“Night slash! Feint attack!”
Nash again ran back behind the rocks as the durant which had just attacked him focused its attention on Edge. The pawniard ran towards it and attacked with night slash, hacking at its metal armor. The durant sustained the damage, and returned with a bug bite attack. Edge was knocked back by the hit, but was still able to battle.
Nash reemerged and struck the durant with a feint attack. The durant finally fell, unable to battle.
The paralyzed durant managed to make its way back to Tobias’s pokemon.
Tobias shouted, “Night slash! Ice shard!”
Nash flash-freezed an icicle and launched it towards the durant. The icicle shattered on its head, doing some damage.
Edge dashed forward and sliced at the final durant in a night slash attack, rendering it unable to battle.
Tobias looked to his sneasel and pawniard as they eliminated the last of the durants. They were apparently tired, but looked better than they did after having fought the horde of venonat and venomoth they had encountered in the forest. He was pleased with their progress.
“Come on,” he said to them as he stepped away, “we’ve got more work to do.”
They followed as their trainer went off further into the rough terrain.

Tobias and his pokemon continued through the rough until they came upon a belligerent looking snubbull. The fairy pokemon stared down both Nash and Edge, intimidating them and successfully lowering their attack efficiency.
Tobias drew a pokeball and called back the sneasel. He only intended on using his pawniard for this battle.
The trainer shouted, "Edge, use iron defense! Then use thunder wave!"
The pawniard assumed a defensive stance and enclosed the metal parts of his body, increasing his defense significantly. He proceeded to release a wave of electrical energy from his body, targeting the snubbull.
Much to Tobias's shock and dismay, the fairy pokemon managed to avoid the thunder wave attack, and counterattacked by leaping on top of Edge, and pounding away at him in a play rough attack.
Edge sustained the damage, but was still standing strong.
"Scary face! Then thunder wave!"
Edge contorted his face into a menacing appearance, and stared down the snubbull. The tables were turned as he successfully, intimidated the wild pokemon, lowering its speed. He proceeded to use another thunder wave attack, this time hitting it directly. The snubbull cringed up, afflicted by paralysis.
Tobias went on, "Use metal claw!"
The pawniard dashed forward and slashed at the fairy pokemon, dealing heavy damage in a steel-type metal claw attack.
The snubbull gathered itself and lunged forward with its head ducked, striking Edge in a headbutt attack. The pawniard appeared mostly unaffected by the attack.
"Metal claw again!"
Edge slashed at the snubbull again, knocking the fairy pokemon down and rendering it unable to battle.
Tobias was pleased as he watched his pokemon win another battle. He stepped away, heading further into the rough as Edge followed behind.
"Those fairy-types are really annoying," he said mostly to himself.

Tobias continued to walk through the harsh landscape with Edge at his side. The pawniard had been travelling with him for a while now. In addition to experience, he was beginning to gain trust in his trainer.
The two reached a hill. Tobias and Edge scaled the boulders, and upon reaching the top noticed a group of four baltoy and three claydol on the other side. The horde quickly became aware of their presence. Tobias drew a pokeball and called out Nash. The sneasel materialized next to Edge, and the two assumed offensive stances.
The baltoy and claydol began making their way towards Tobias and his pokemon.
Tobias shouted, "Swords dance! Iron Defense!"
Nash improved his stance and readied himself for combat, increasing his attack efficiency. Edge shifted himself into a defensive form, and tightened his metal body.
As the horde was approaching, Tobias shouted again, "Slash! Night Slash!"
Nash and Edge dashed forward, and readied themselves to strike. Two of the baltoy attacked with earth power, manipulating the ground beneath the two pokemon to attack them. Nash was able to avoid the attack, but Edge took some damage. Though hurt, the pawniard was able to keep fighting.
The sneasel hacked at one of the baltoy in a slash attack, rendering the pokemon unable to fight. Edge followed suit and attacked another baltoy, with night slash. The attack was highly effective, and also successfully defeated its target.
Two of the claydol focused themselves with cosmic power, increasing their defenses. The third claydol attacked with ancientpower, manipulating rocks that had been lying on the ground and hurling them towards Nash. The sneasel took the hit, sustaining heavy damage. However, he was able to stay standing.
"Swords dance! Feint attack!" Tobias went on, "Iron defense! Night slash!"
Nash and Edge again improved their stances, increasing the efficiency of their respective offense and defense.
The two remaining baltoy attacked with rock tomb, hurling rocks towards the sneasel and pawniard. The former pokemon was able to avoid the hit, using feint attack to disappear into the rough terrain. The pawniard braced himself and sustained the hit, with his improved defense.
Edge lunged forward and attacked the claydol which had used ancientpower with night slash, hacking violentlty at it. Nash then emerged from behind and struck the same claydol, rendering it unable to fight anymore.
The remaining two claydol attacked Nash and Edge with psybeam. As dark-types, they were both able to resist the psychic attacks.
"Night Slash! Feint attack!"
Edge rushed forward towards the two baltoy as Nash once again ran into cover. Nash emerged behind the two, and the sneasel and pawniard both struck the same pokemon, rendering it unable to fight.
One of the claydol used cosmic power again while the other attacked with ancientpower. The attack hit Edge. The attack did not do much damage, but on top of previous injuries, Edge would not be able to fight much longer.
The remaining baltoy attacked with extrasensory, and attacked to seize Nash with its psychic power. As a dark-type, Nash was immune.
Tobias continued, "Slash! Metal claw!"
The sneasel and pawniard both hacked at the remaining baltoy, rendering it unable to fight.
"Night slash! Feint attack!"
Nash took cover as Edge rushed forward towards the two remaining claydol. Edge leaped and struck with a night slash attack at the claydol which had just attacked him, while Nash attacked the same claydol with feint attack from behind. The doll pokemon was still able to battle.
"Night slash! Slash!"
The other claydol attacked with rock tomb, hurling a rock toward Edge. However, the pawniard was fortunately able to avoid the attack.
The sneasel and the pawniard rushed toward the claydol which had just attacked and both hacked at it, doing critical damage and rendering it unable to battle.
The last remaining claydol attacked with rock tomb, hurling a rock and successfully hitting Nash. The damage rendered the sneasel unable to battle.
Tobias pulled out Nash's pokeball and recalled the sneasel, as he called out, "Metal claw!"
The pawniard mustered the last of its strength and charged at the claydol, then leaped and hacked at it in a metal claw attack.
Tobias drew a vacant ultra pokeball from his pocket and expanded it. He hurled it towards the claydol. The ball recognized the unregistered pokemon, and dematerialized it. The ultra ball dropped to the ground and began to shake.
Tobias looked with anticipation as he awaited whether the catch would be successful. Edge stood by, exhausted from the fight.
