Tobias kept on a careful watch as he walked through the woods. He was looking for pokemon, but had not yet encountered anything worth fighting. He had not gone training in the wilderness since he was still in Unova, and the unfamilarity of the land caused him a bit of tension. He liked it, though. He found the feeling exhilarating.
He was not seeking any pokemon species in particular - he merely sought something which would test the abilities of his own. If he was to improve as a trainer, he knew that he would need to evolve his pokemon. So far, his entire team was unevolved.
Tobias thought about his skorupi. It was his newest pokemon, and the only one who he had never commanded in battle. Certainly, he was his priority. He reached into his jacket and removed a pokeball. He called out Arkantos.
The skorupi fidgeted as he took in his new surroundings.
Tobias continued further into the woods, with Arkantos following.
“Come now,” he said to his pokemon, “we’re gonna beat somebody up.”

Tobias and Arkantos continued onward into the woods, as the trainer kept an eye out for pokemon. His skorupi did the same, and was apparently more adept at doing so, as Arkantos came to a stop. Tobias immediately assumed that his pokemon had deteced something, and cast his gave to where the skorupi was looking.
He saw a spinarak, hanging from a tree by its string. He had never seen this species before, but he figured it was a bug-type, and that it would not be too much trouble for Arkantos. He began to think of a battle plan. Was spinarak a poison-type too? He had no idea; all of the spider pokemon with which he was familiar were electric types, but he was not one for taking chances.
Tobias shouted, "Arkantos, use acupressure, and then use night slash on that pokemon!"
Arkantos startled a little. Tobias had never commanded him in battle before. The skorupi managed to gather himself. He was beginning to feel comfortable with Tobias, however, and certainly trusted the trainer enough to follow his directions. He used acupressure on himself, raising his accuracy. He rushed forward, and used night slash. The skorupi raised his stinger offensively, and sliced violently at the spinarak.
The spinarak had evidently not been anticipating aggression, as the spider pokemon made no immediate effort to dodge or react to the attack. Arkantos landed a direct hit, knocking his opponent down from the string.
The spinarak collected itself from the ground, and attacked Arkantos in response. It used leech life, which against the bug and poison-type skorupi did minimal damage. The spider pokemon followed up with metal claw, and slashed at the scorpion. Since spinarak was not a steel-type, the attack was not very strong.
Tobias shouted, "Use night slash again!"
Arkantos raised his stinger, and slashed again at the spinarak, who at this point was still on top of him. He landed a direct hit, but the spinarak did not seem as hurt as he was after the first attack. It seemed as though he was bracing himself.
Tobias had seen this tactic before. The spinarak was using bide. If his skorupi continued to attack, and failed to win the battle within time, he was going to take quite a bit of damage - possibly enough to render him unable to fight further. He clenched his teeth. He had to think fast.
He decided to go all-out, "Arkantos, acupressure, and then night slash!"
The scorpion used acupressure again, this time raising his attack. Then he rushed forward and raised his stinger to slash at the spider pokemon. As the spinarak was attacked, Tobias could see that it was putting all of its effort into maintaining itself for bide's counterattack. However, the attacks from his skorupi seemed to be just too much. The spinarak stopped using bide, and collapsed to the ground. It was unable to battle anymore.
"That's enough," said Tobias, "You've done well, Arkantos."
Tobias went off in another direction, to find another opponent. Arkantos followed along.

Tobias walked deeper into the woods until he spotted a hoothoot perched on a tree branch. As he stopped, Arkantos stopped as well. However, it did not appear that the skorupi had noticed the hoothoot. Tobias looked to the ground and found a stick, about half the length of his arm. He threw the stick up towards the forest canopy. The stick struck the branch on which the hoothoot was perched, scaring it. The hoothoot descended and landed in front of Tobias and his pokemon. It was prepared to fight.
"Arkantos, use acupressure, and then night slash!" shouted Tobias
Before Arkantos could attack, the faster hoothoot used foresight, identifying the skorupi as a target, and ensuring accuracy. The owl pokemon followed up with an echoed voice attack. Arkantos took the hit. He sustained damage, but managed to follow through with his commands. He used acupressure on himself, raising his special defense. The skorupi proceeded to rush forward and slash at the hoothoot with its stinger, in a night slash attack.
The hoothoot took the hit, and was visibly hurt. It reacted by using reflect, raising its defense. It then followed up with another echoed voice. This successive hit was more powerful than the last, but since acupressure had improved Arkantos's special defense, he was able to sustain the damage. However, coupled with the damage from the previous battle, Arkantos was beginning to seem worn as well.
Tobias shouted again, "Arkantos, use acupressure, and then venoshock!"
Arkantos used acupressure, raising his accuracy. He then sprayed venomous fluid from his body at the owl pokemon in a venoshock attack. The hoothoot and the skorupi were now both exhausted.
He went on, "Use venoshock again!"
The hoothoot used another echoed voice attack. Arkantos barely withstood the hit; he was not far from being unable to continue battling. He mustered his strength, and attacked the hoothoot with another spray of venom. The owl pokemon collapsed to the ground, unable to battle.
Tobias could see that his pokemon was hurt. He raised his pokeball.
"Good work. You've had enough."
He called back Arkantos, and placed the pokeball back into his jacket. He turned away from the hoothoot and continued into the forest. Nash and Edge still needed training.

Tobias spotted a togepi waddling along the forest floor. It stopped and began to stare at him. It did not seem frightened of him. Tobias examined the pokemon. He had seen this species before somewhere.
He thought back, "Alright, it's a normal-type, so -- wait, no. It's a fairy- type. I thing Edge will make short work of it."
Tobias reached into his jacket and removed a pokeball. He called out his pawniard, Edge. He clashed his blades together, creating a metallic sound, as he turned into an aggressive stance towards the fairy pokemon. The togepi was threatened by this gesture. It immediately reacted by growling at the pawniard. Edge lowered his arms as his attack fell.
The togepi then followed up with an ancient power attack, using its abilities to raise a boulder out of the ground and hurl it towards Edge. The pawniard took the hit, though it was not very effective. Additionally, he togepi seemed to use the same extra special power from the attack to improve itself temporarily, increasing all of its stats.
Tobias Foster shouted, "Edge, use Thunder Wave, and then Metal Claw!"
Edge released a jolt of electrical energy from its body towards the togepi. The voltage did not harm the pokemon, but caused some paralysis. The togepi clenched up. The pawniard followed up with a metal claw attack, doing significant damage to the fairy.
The togepi attempted to attack in response, but was unable due to paralysis.
"Use metal claw again!" shouted Tobias.
Edge followed command, and slashed at the fairy pokemon in another attack. The togepi fell on its back, unable to battle.
"Alright, that's enough," the he said, "Anymore, and you'll injure it."
Tobias went off again, with Edge following behind.

Tobias and Edge continued walking through the woods, until something caught both of their attention. Tobias's eyes widened as he set his gaze upon a pokemon horde, consisting of five venonats and two venomoths. They bug pokemon looked intently at the trainer and his pawniard.
He remembered speaking to a trainer in a pokemon center, just before he made the trek out into the wilderness. The trainer was looking for pokemon of this species, and offering payment. Tobias might just get a few cents out of this as well.
Tobias knew well that escape was not an option. This was the most tension he had endured in Nue so far. However, he was confident that with proper coordination, his pokemon would prevail. He quite enjoyed the feeling and being uncertain whether he could defeat these foes.
Tobias reached into his jacket and removed a pokeball. He called out his sneasel, Nash. He considered calling out Arkantos as well, but the pokemon was injured, and keeping track of three of his pokemon in battle would likely not herald favorable results.
The horde seemed intrigued as Nash materialized in front of them. Then, they moved forward. The extra pokemon was enough of a threat.
Tobias shouted "Edge, hit them with thunder wave! Nash, swords dance!"
Edge released a jolt of electrical energy from his body, hitting a venonat. It fell behind the others, afflicted with paralysis. Nash assumed a swords dance battle position, readying him for combat and raising his attack.
Tobias shouted again, "Thunder wave! Ice shard!"
Edge released another jolt of electrical energy from its body, this time hitting one of the two venomoths. It was able to remain airborne, but was visibly afflicted by the electrical paralysis. Nash gathered his energy to drain the heat out of the air around him, and managed to flash-freeze enough humidity to form a sharp icicle. He hurled the ice chunk forward, striking a venonat. Hurt, it fell behind the others, but still looked like it could fight.
The horde was upon Nash and Edge, and Tobias's two pokemon could not give anymore successive attacks at the moment. The two dark-types had managed to knock back three of the attacking pokemon for the wave, but three venonats and one venomoth were still ready at the assault.
Two of the venonats used poisonpowder, targeting both Nash and Edge. They both took the hit, and sneasel was afflicted by the toxins. The pawniard, as a steel-type, was immune.
The third venonat attacked Nash with psybeam, creating a ray of psychic energy. Nash braced himself and absorbed the energy. As a dark-type, he was able to resist its effects.
The venomoth used bug buzz, targeting Edge with its vibrations. Edge was knocked back by the blast of soundwaves, but managed to pull himself back up.
Tobias shouted more commands, "Feint attack, and night slash!"
Nash faded back into the foliage. Distracted with the pawniard, the bug-types quickly lost sight of him. He rushed through the bushes and reemerged behind the venomoth. He jumped into the air, and struck the moth pokemon with feint attack.
The pawniard sliced furiously at one of the three venonats in a night slash attack. The target of the attack fell backwards, unable to battle.
Tobias continued, "Nash, ice shard! Edge, metal claw!"
Nash again created a sharp icicle, and hurled it towards the venomoth. The moth pokemon evidently attempted to respond with another bug buzz, but the ice chunk struck it before it could execute the attack, knocking it to the ground it appeared unable to battle further.
Edge slashed at another venonat in a metal claw attack. The bug-type sustained the damage, but was still able to fight.
Of the wave of attackers, only two venonats remained. From further back, two more venonats, and the remaining venomoth made their way over to the fray. A venonat and the venomoth were already afflicted with paralysis from Edge's thunder wave attack. The remaining venonat had already taken damage from Nash's ice shard.
The venonat that Edge had just attacked with metal claw responded with a signal beam attack on the pawniard. Edge took the damage, and was visibly hurt. The other turned to Nash and used a signal beam attack on him as well. Nash managed to avoid the hit, and followed up with his own slash attack, independent of Tobias's orders. The venonat fell, unable to battle further.
"Edge, night slash! Nash, use swords dance and then slash!"
Edge slashed at the venonat that had just attacked him, in a night slash attack, delivering enough damage to render the bug-type unable to battle further.
Nash prepared his stance again, in a swords dance attack, further improving his attack efficiency. He dashed forward and slashed at the venonat which he had hit early in the battle with ice shard. The damage rendered it unable to battle.
Now only two pokemon of the horde remained able to fight, a venonat and a venomoth. Both of them were afflicted with paralysis.
"Attack the big one! Metal claw, ice shard!"
The venomoth managed to muster a silver wind attack, blasting at Nash with materials from its wings. Nash took the hit, and sustained heavy damage from the bug-type attack. Coupled with the increasing fatigue from his poison affliction, Nash would not be able to battle for much longer.
Edge dashed forward and jumped at the venomoth, slashing at it with metal claw. Nash, recovering from the hit, created another ice chunk and hurled it at the moth, knocking it out of the air and unable to fight anymore.
The last remaining venonat looked as though it had attempted to attack as well, but was overtaken by paralysis.
Tobias was about to issue the final order, before he recalled the trainer from the pokemon center. He had no job at this time, and could use the extra money. Tobias reached into his bag and removed a vacant pokeball. He hurled it towards the paralyzed venonat.
The pokeball recognized the unregistered pokemon, and dematerialized it before accepting it into storage. The pokeball landed on the ground, and began to shake. Tobias's heart rate increased as the capture was underway.

Tobias sighed in relief as the capture proved successful. He walked up to the now occupied pokeball, and placed it in his jacket. He did not desire this pokemon, but granted he could find that trainer from town again, it would bring him some hot meals.
He looked around, and surveyed the damage. Four venonats and two venomoths lay on the ground. His own pokemon had done this. He was proud of them.
He looked to Edge and Nash. They were both exhausted, and Nash's poison affliction appeared to be worsening.
"You've both done very well," he said, as he reached for their pokeballs.
He called them back. The forest began to display a tint of orange; daylight would not last for much longer. Additionally, all of his pokemon had just been pushed to their boundaries.
Tobias pulled out his phone and browsed through the GPS feature, to find the shortest route to a pokemon center. He began to head out of the woods. He was pleased with his team's efforts.
