THE PATH TO ENLIGHTENMENT Location: Temple of Insight - Iceburgh Members: 1-2 The Temple of Insight in Iceburgh is well known throughout the region as an ancient place. A center of introspection and training, the region’s rumored first Mega Evolution occurred near it and was formed by the very same trainer. Go to the Temple and learn it’s history and earn the right to knowledge.
Opponents: 2 NPCs with fully evolved Pokémon, 4 moves each. Rewards: . . . Knowledge Taking with Elinda Aspen
Maybe a week or so had passed since Josh and Izumi had failed their attempt, Izumi's second attempt, at the tower. While this was a different tower though, Josh's goal was the same... He'd had a lot of time to think about his past failure. He had tried to see it as a learning experience, but... In the end, it was a learning experience for Izumi due to his actions, not for him. But alas, he had still left with something. A fire, lit under his ass. Sure, that fire had not been lit immediately. When he and Izumi had left the Tower, he had considered quitting as a Pokemon Trainer. Taking a new career full time, another way to spend time with his Pokemon, and take advantage of the talents he had... And the strong bonds that he shared with them.
But something, somehow... Just kept drawing him back. Even as Izumi considered ending her Trainers career, Josh couldn't let it go. This had been his dream since he was a little boy, as soon as he came close to calling it a day, something drew him back. And that something was the knowledge of mega evolution. He had failed his biggest challenge, he would refuse to go down, to call it quits, he had to make it right.
He had to prove himself. The time for doubting himself had come and gone. His entire life had prepared him for a big challenge, and he knew in his heart... He was born to be a Trainer. He was born to travel, to catch, train and forge strong bonds with Pokemon. Nary was there a challenge that he didn't face head on and not be able to overcome. This... This was another hurdle he had to jump over. And he wouldn't stop until he had accomplished that. All that time, all that effort spent collecting these... Mega Stones, all the time he had spent preparing for this... He refused to allow it to amount to nothing.
The blonde trudged through the snow until the Temple Of Enlightenment came into view. Trudging through right beside him was his partner, Lightning, who was particularly steamed after what had happened last time. In the Pikachu's eyes, he had failed his Trainer. Not only that, but his failure to be able to get out of the Haze attack in time had put Josh at risk in order to protect him. While Lightning would not be fighting today, he would be at his Trainer's side in spirit... The only way he could right now to make it right.
The Temple would come into sight, and the blonde would take a deep, frozen breath as he prepared himself for another fight.

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Yumi stormed out of the thin doors of the temple of enlightenment, he thick coat swiftly flung back onto her shoulders, her arms slipping back into the sleeves and zipping it up over her typical combination of a midrift hoodie and only a slightly longer shirt. From the expression only a few could discern beneath her hood, she was miffed, for more reasons than one, grumbling to herself as she walked through the snowy enviroment and down the steps from the temple.
Since she'd conquered the tower of mastery in Kanto, she had become a bonafied master of Mega Evolution in her own right, but apparently, that kind of news didn't travel to other regions. Despite having proven to the master here that her pokemon could use mega evolution through her, she apparently had to pass their own test before she would be allowed to access their sources of mega information. As if it was anything different from what she already knew! All she needed to do was...er..."Aquire" a replacement for the book she had "Borrowed" from the library back at the tower of mastery. Her old one wasn't too good to begin with, torn and missing pages, some just too faded to read, she needed something new in order to keep up to date with all these new mega stones she was finding in the region.
Still, with only slight annoyance at the residential master, Yumi felt no reason to stick around. She could prove herself in a heartbeat if she wanted to! Especially with the power of her mega pokemon. Sure she got help her first time round, but this time, she was sure she could...
Her thoughts detracted for a moment as she reached the bottom of the steps, noticing someone approacing the temple, vaguely recognizing him throug the cold fog...she lifted her own hood, her red locks flowing free behind her now.

Lightning had begun shivering. The Pikachu was obviously cold, despite everything. Josh noticed it quickly, and wouldn't allow it as he would quickly scoop Lightning up. "Here, let me help.." He whispered as he would unzip his jacket, letting the freezing Pikachu climb inside. Lightning being cold and pressed against Josh after he unzipped his jacket meant that Josh would be colder due to it, but it would help Lightning heat up, and that, really, was all that Josh cared about. Finally, the duo would come to the entrance, the bottom of the stairs. And nearby, Josh heard a voice.
"Josh?"
His eyes moved to the stairs, recognizing Yumi just as she would bring her hood up. Lightning's ears would perk up as he would poke his head out from inside Josh's jacket to get a good look at Yumi. Josh would pull over his own hood, his long blonde hair flowing back down around him.
"Yumi?" He asked, tilting his head. "What're you doing here?" He would ask. Didn't Yumi already have the secrets to Mega Evolution..?

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Yumi smiled a little from the high collar of her thermal coat, her tyical figure well hiddn under the thick and warm layers she was currently wearing. Even her legs had some sort of thermal layer in the pants she was wearing. Heck if it weren't for her bright red hair even in the snowy settlement, and maybe the tone of her voice over the chilly winds, it would likely be hard to find any other discernable traits about her in this thick weather.
"Good to see your face around here. But what are..." Her head slowly turned back to the small temple she had just left, as if answering her own question with a small sigh, before chuckling at her own stupidity and lifting her head again as she looked to Josh once more. "Finally trying to learn how to pull off my tricks? Well best of luck to ya!~ Me? I was just here trying to replace a book..." She rooted around in her backpack and pulled out a small worn and tired book, the binder seemed to nearly be falling apart.
"This is how I try and keep up to date on mega evolution stuff, but as you can see it isn't too reliable anymore." Stuffing the book away carefully, seeing as it may be her only information source for a while, Yumi continued. "But the damn master her wants to make sure I can prove myself too, I mean-" Suddenly Yumi got an idea, sling her back back over her shoulder and looking a little excited. "Hey! You need someone to help you past the test?~"
Post by Josh Dragomir on Feb 7, 2015 18:09:40 GMT -5
Josh smiled a bit as he would recognize the redhead. On that note, he would duly realize that this was probably the most clothing he had ever seen on Yumi, ever. He wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not, but regardless, he would smirk when she would begin to ask what he was doing here, before seeming to turn back toward the temple as the redhead would realize just what Josh was here for. I mean, if you didn't already know what mega evolution was, why else would you be here, right? "Yeah" He said. "You see, Izumi and I have taken the challenge before, as a team. But some whimmy wobby bullshit got pulled out and... We didn't fare very well" He said with a small smile. The nicest way he could put it, he supposed.
Yumi mentioned she was trying to replace a book, and Josh raised an eyebrow. If she'd already earned the knowledge of Mega Evolution, why did she have to prove anything? He was sure she had already taken the blasted test, aye? But then she suggested the idea of going together. "Well, I don't see why not" He said with a small smile in response as he would walk over to the redhead. "I was planning to do this alone, since I knew Izumi was way too crestfallen to take the challenge again for quite some time, if ever again. But... Well, we're both here. I need to prove myself that I can earn that knowledge, and you need to prove yourself to let them accept you for this and that. So if you wanna do this together... Sure!" He said with a smirk. "Pikachu~" Lightning chirped from in the jacket, seeming happy to see Yumi again, and in good spirits.
"Shall we go then?" Josh would ask as he would begin to make his way up the stairs. As they walked, Josh would begin to relay the tale of his last attempt to prove himself worthy of mega evolution knowledge.
"-And since then, Izumi's... Well, like I said... She's crestfallen. Her confidence is at an all time low. She's considering quitting as a Trainer" Josh would say near the end of the story as they would walk inside of the temple. Thank god this place was a little bit warmer. A bit, anyway, and Josh would allow Lightning to climb out of the jacket. If Yumi cared to look, she might notice that Josh had been wearing his regular clothes, the orre-styled trench jacket, the t-shirt and all, underneath the large winter jacket and that long blue scarf that looked like it came from a Dynasty Warriors spin off, likely so he could change into them right before the battle without the need of having to.... Y'know, get naked and all that jazz. There were no doubts there at Josh didn't want his opponent seeing any sign of his... Uhh... Pokeflu-
Anyway! Josh would continue as he looked around at the place, trying to locate where he would be meeting this... Opponent. "I've tried to tell her many a time that it was just one battle. But she seems so adamant on it, so adamant that she just isn't good enough, that this is impossible for someone like her, who isn't used to uberly competitive battle. That's... Part of the reason I'm here, actually. I have to prove it to her. I have to prove that these guys can be beat, that they can be beat by someone who isn't... Y'know, specialized, in some fashion. I want to come back to the ranch, that knowledge in hand, and see the big smile on Izumi's face as she realizes that she has a chance. She and I are relatively around the same skill level. If I can prove to her that they can be beat... I think it'll mean the world to her" He would say, looking back at Yumi. "I appreciate you coming with and helping me as well. I don't know what lies ahead, but I can't think of a better person to tackle a challenge like this with. I just hope that we can handle whoever lies here" He said, taking a breath.
He had to admit, he felt better with Yumi there. Not because she'd faced a similar challenge before, but because he trusted Yumi. He'd seen her in action, and had fought alongside the redhead before. He had confidence in her, and there was no one better that he would want at his side in something as difficult as this. He just hoped that she would be able to have confidence in him.
The blonde looked around once they'd gone about as far as they could. "Hello?" Josh would call out. "We're here about gaining knowledge for mega evolution?"
Punk Couple Jack and Harley challenge you to a double battle!
As Josh's voice rang through the building, two rather rough looking people turned to face him and Yumi. "Huh?" The guy said. Harley nudged him in the side slightly and gestured her head towards the duo. "We're supposed to be challenging these people Jack, just like boss told us." It took the man a moment, but it finally registered in his head. "Oh! Yeah, yeah. Got'cha, forgot. Sorry Harley." She rolled her eyes and stepped forward, grabbing Jack's arm to drag him with her.
The two stepped into Josh and Yumi's view. The girl smirked and tossed her Pokeball up and down. "Mega knowledge, huh? Well before you can talk to our boss, you'll have to go through us first." Harley said. Jack stood tall beside her with his arms crossed. "Yeah, what she said." The pink haired girl stared at Jack with a face that almost said 'How disappointing', but it quickly faded as she turned her attention towards the duo. "The rules are gonna be simple, alright? A double battle, that's it. Got it? You two can go about your strat or ideas, we'll be waiting here."

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Yumi hopped after Josh with a rather excited grin, ready to help out her friend and ensure he got the mega knowledge she knew he deserved as a trainer, while at the same time, making sure she herself could get a new copy of her book. Afterall, couldn't have an upstart mega newbie knowing more than she does huh? There were already some mega pokemon she didn't know could exist, and the sooner she could rectify all this, the better.
Spotting the...well..."ruffians" running the joint somehow didn't fill Yumi with confidence. Well, it did, it made her feel like she may have a better time ahead of herself, but also, she kinda felt like this didn't say much about the state of the temple...She let out an audible chuckle. What the hell was she even talking about!? I mean she had to look at herself first! Some red head running around with her stomache exposed half the time had this power, what was to say these guys here couldn't do it?
"Well it seems our challenge is accepted Josh. What say we hit them hard from the start?~"
Picking a pokeball from her belt, Yumi tossed it out onto the field as the supposed pupils of the temple tasked with challenging them requested. From the pokeball emerged a shuny Metagross, his metallic body shining in the dim light within the temple. Yumi herself Quickly unzipped her coat, tossing it aside and revealing she still had her stomache exposing hoodie beneath, looking like her usual self! Caesar the metagross himself gave only a lw metallic grunt as he placed his hefty legs firmly in the ground.
"Come on then bud, let's see what you got to back me up!"

Josh had expected it. A couple of rude folks would come, challenging them in order for them to earn the knowledge. The blonde would smirk faintly. These guys seemed a little... Less posh then the folks that he had run into last time he had challenged for the knowledge of mega evolution. But he supposed with a different region, different territory... There would be different Trainers to challenge. Fair enough. He had to admit though, they looked a little rough and gruff. But he wouldn't bother making comments about their dress until they started some sort of issue.
Regardless, a double battle it was. The blonde would chuckle as he spun his Pokeball on his finger. He was confident, he was on fire... They could do this. They had to do this. Josh would smirk over at Yumi. She seemed confident as well. Good.
"I like the sound of that, Yumi~" He would tease over at her with a chuckle as he would watch Yumi bring out her Metagross, with a unique coloring that was familiar to Josh. At around the same time as Yumi, Josh would unzip his coat, throwing it off to reveal his regular clothes, as hinted before. Lightning would grab the coat, seeming content to stand behind Josh and wrap himself in it to be warm. One of Josh's Pokeballs would open, bringing out his Beldum, Grodus. Who shared the same white color as Yumi's Metagross. Josh would chuckle a bit as the Beldum would float around the Metagross a bit, seeming curious, but it was time to get to business. Josh would wave the Beldum over to the Pikachu. "Grodus, I know you're new to this, but I need you to stay with Lightning while I take care of business" He would say with an encouraging smile. The Beldum would seem to listen, flying over to the Pikachu and deciding to watch the proceedings.
To Yumi's words, Josh would smirk, finally grasping the Pokeball that he had chosen from the start. "Alright, Yumi, you've got it!" Josh said as he would toss the Pokeball into the air. "Go, Valor!" Josh called as he would bring out his Snorunt. "Snooooo!" Valor would let out as he would hop from one foot to the other, seeming excited about the prospect of a big battle. Valor was cute and small on the outside... But Josh had been training the Snorunt for this ever since his defeat before.
He would wait, in anticipation of what their opponents would bring out...

Bisharp used Taunt on Snorunt and Metagross, then used Magnet Rise Gallade used Night Slash on Snorunt
The two of them watched as Yumi and Josh called their Pokemon. While the Metagross was slightly intimidating, it's partner was not. Jack and Harley exchanged glances with each other. She rose an eyebrow, staring at the Ice type with curiosity. Jack shrugged. "May as well let'em give us all they got." He said simply. With a nod, Harley agreed. Both of them picked off their Pokeballs and tossed them onto the field.
Released from the Pokeballs were two rather tall Pokemon. The Bisharp and Gallade stood next to each other side by side. They gave each other a nod and turned to their opponents. The matchup was rather good for them, or at least that's what Jack and Harley believed. "Alright. Bisharp, let's go! Taunt'em both, then get off the ground." Harley commanded. Jack followed in suit. "Gallade, get that Snorunt!"
With their commands set, the two Pokemon didn't waste anytime. The Bisharp brought its hand up and made a 'Come at me bro' motion, aimed at both Pokemon on the opposing side. Hopefully, this would anger the Pokemon and remove any sort threat. Then, the Dark type would raise into the air. The electricity crackled beneath him and brought him up and above the ground. The Gallade wouldn't waste anytime afterwards and dashed in, his arm glowing darkly as he tried to swipe the small Ice type with a Night Slash.

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
(EDIT! Doc agreed that if the pokemon acted without command, this could work, and seeing as metagross is essentially a supercomputer, I edited in that he made th emove alone)
Truth be told, the arrival of the snorunt on her side of the field from Josh did not fill the red head with confidence. She had seen Josh battle before, and even knew a few of his pokemon, including a pikachu and a charizard. Was a snorunt really the best he could come up with for this challenge? Then again, who was Yumi to judge? She'd made some poor decisions in the past, and even then, the blonde standing next to her could have a plan behind picking the little snoRUNT.
It was only when her eyes returned to her target that Yumi nearly flipped, hearing the command for Taunt, she had to react quickly, but thankfully, her Metagross reacted quicker. Before Yumi's mind could even register the word properly, Caeser was slamming down a wall of earth, the rock slide blocking the vision of the Taunt attack. It was only thanks to his incredible supercomputer of a brain he could take his own move before the Bisharp could process his own.
Caeser didn't even need to think. Some pokemon acted on instinct, but Caeser here? He could just process info without even needing to put any effort in. The glory of having a supercomputer for a brain. Before the Bisahrp even rose up its hands for the Taunt, rocks fell from around the Metagross, forming a wall of earth between the challengers and the challenge. This of course didn't stop the Gallade approaching, and it took Yumi having to jump up to see what was going on with that psychic fighter. She knew Snorunt wouldn't deal well with any sort of attack, so she had to make sure Caeser was at the front of this battle at all costs.
"Take the night slash! Reflect and Magnet rise!"
Reacting as quick as before, Caeser's body shined bright, once in a purple colour as his reflect activated, even covering the snorunt beside him, and once for his magnet rise, floating with ease and weightlessness allowing him to move quickly in the path of the Gallade as it made it's way around the earthen wall, spinning his metallic limbs against the night slash as he took the brunt of the damage.
"Josh. Gonna need to keep that snorunt safe. Climb aboard Caeser okay?"
NOTES
83% Reflect 1/5 Magnet rise! Used rock slide to block vision for taunt Used reflect and magnet rise to move in path of night slash on snorunt.

Admittedly, a Snorunt hadn't been Josh's original plan. To be quite honest, when he had shown up, he was almost literally fired up, and incredibly pissed off to boot. He had full plans to barge in with his Charizard and violently cook up whatever Pokemon the guardian of the mega knowledge had to offer. But Yumi showing up, their teaming up, and her using her Metagross instead had changed things in a hurry. Josh knew that power and power weren't always going to be the answer, and he had learned that from his past failure. He had a plan... He just hoped that Yumi could trust him, and that it wouldn't backfire.
His gaze would divert over to the Punk Party ordering their two suped up pawns to attack, first noticing the Taunt. Of course, he knew Yumi had it covered, and that she did with a creative, outside the box use of Rock Slide. Well... Actually, her Metagross had, on it's own by the looks of it, unless Yumi just had super mind reading powers or something. He smirked faintly as the Snorunt's vision of the Taunt was obstructed. He knew Yumi was smart. She was a very intelligent woman with great battle presence, and like him, loved to think outside the box. They were two peas in a pod that way... And this was one of the reasons that he was most excited about teaming with Yumi for this. While her Metagross had acted on it's own this time, it had likely been something Yumi had taught it, and he knew that Yumu, and her Pokemon... Probably had a few more tricks up their proverbial sleeves. And with that, he would note the Metagross taking Night Slash, wincing a bit. He didn't enjoy the notion of Yumi taking hits for him, but Ice types could be fragile... He had to remember that. And with that, the Metagross would begin to fly thanks to Magnet Rise, and Yumi offered the notion of Valor climbing aboard.
"Got it" He said, before motioning for Valor to climb onto the flying Metagross. Valor would do so, and as he did, Josh would call a command...
"Valor, use Safeguard!"
"Sno!" Valor would respond, letting loose a burst of energy that would bring out a transparent shield around both Valor and her Metagross. Josh had a plan after all... And he would shoot Yumi a wink as he did. Come at me, bro.

Bisharp used Taunt on Snorunt and Metagross, then used Sucker Punch Gallade used Night Slash on Snorunt
The Gallade jumped back, staring at the Metagross in slight confusion. Why had it taken the hit for a Snorunt of all things? However, the Pokemon disregarded that fact and stood next to its partner. Harley on the other hand was almost just as confused, that was definitely odd. If anything, she figured that the Metagross would want to stand the longest. Nonetheless, Harley shook her head and snapped her fingers.
The Bisharp obeyed, Taunting both Pokemon again with a wave of its hands and a grunt. Despite the Safeguard, moves like Taunt, Roar or Whirlwind that didn't directly inflict a status aliment went through the shield. "Go in now!" Harley commanded. The Bisharp sped forward in the air, jabbing forward in a Sucker Punch at the Metagross before instantly pulling back. If the Pokemon did not aim to use an attacking move, the Bisharp was out of there.
"Gallade, go in again!" Jack commanded. The Gallade took action and dashed forward again, aiming it's sights on the Snorunt on top and slashing down with its darkened blade.
