He was exhausted. Rolling his shoulders, Jason, or Jeraud rather, exited the warehouse where the illegal MMA matches were held. Jason had just barely won a match against one of the largest opponents he had faced so far, some mountain of a man who called himself "Geo". The dark haired man looked down at his left hand, completely surprised it wasn't broken from the pain he had just endured. No matter, because in his other hand was a thick wad of bills, barely enough to pay for his rent for the month and buy enough food for his pokemon. It had been this like this ever since he moved to Nue, his money fluctuating between barely being able to make rent to having enough to go out a few times a month. The whole thing, managing one's expenses, was a foreign concept to the once spoiled rich boy. He had been used to spending as much as he wanted and never having to deal with the possibility of there being nothing. The chance he might have his card declined! The look of horror that passed on Jason's face the first time it happened was priceless, hell, the cashier even let him buy his groceries for free out of worry he may break down right there.
Since then, though, the blond in disguise had learned to adjust to his new life, ever so slightly. Jason got a job, a shitty one albeit, but his main source of income were the many MMA matches he participated in. While it wasn't the most secure salary, it was all he had, considering Jason refused to participate in trainer battles. It was a well known fact trainers, usually, didn't have to worry about money because they made back what they spent from battling other trainers, or if they were skilled enough, gyms.
Jason scoffed at the idea of challenging a gym as he entered Lunar Park, the lake glistening in the moonlight. He hadn't challenged a gym since Fantina, the phantom mistress of Hearthome, and that was nearly two years ago! The memory was just a piece of himself that lingered, and it didn't help that Jason had both of his gym badges, the one he got from beating Roxanne of Rustboro, locked away in a small safe hidden underneath his bed. Not that he reminisced on them or anything he did, but kept them in case he would ever need to sell them for rent money. Gym badges were powerful items in the way that they earned respect from other trainers, and even Gym Leaders, if presented in the right way. Should some shady fellow ever need to prove himself, all he would need to would be to present a Gym Badge or two. And Arceus knows there's plenty of people like that in Tyntill.
Almost on the opposite of the park from which he had entered, Jason took a seat on a bench that overlooked the beautiful lake. Lunar Park had to be his favorite place in all of Tyntill by far, the etheral beauty it had and the rumors of its haunting reminding Jason of his own ghost pokemon; pokemon he had forced himself to keep secluded from the world, and unfortunately, himself. The black haired man put his hands behind head and sighed, admiring the scenery and regretting everything about himself.

At this time of the night, it was the nocturnal creatures that got the most action out of the park: searching for prey, exploring the moonlit paths, or in the case of the curious Meowth, searching for shiny objects to add to her collection. When she spotted the moonbeams reflecting off of something from some lone Human on a bench, her eyes began sparkle and the gold charm on her forehead flashed once; the thief had found its next target. Retracting her claws, the Meowth began to sneak her way towards the dark haired man, ready to take what she wanted and what would soon be hers.
For Jason, however, his eyes had been wide open the whole time as he stared out over the lake, recounting his many mistakes. He had just touched the small pale red and white minimized capture device hanging from his neck when he noticed something in the distance. A small flash of light had caught his attention, and he looked up frantically, thinking for just a second that perhaps it was Jasmine, teleporting in to tell him it had all just been a horrible dream. Of course, that was not the case, as Jason was smacked in the face by reality, remembering all to clearly she was dead and gone, forever. Putting his head between his knees and rubbing the back of his head, Jason leaned over the bench, cursing to himself how stupid he was. Not just for believing in such an impossible fantasy, but for forcing his current fantasy upon himself. If he had not made so many damn mistakes, performed so lousily in those battles, or just had not gotten involved in the first place he would still be in Hoenn exploring his home region, and more importantly, he would still have Jasmine with him.
Wallowing in self pity, Jason did not notice the small feline pokemon approaching him from the behind, her claws out and ready to slice through the chain keeping the shiny, his minimized pokeball, out of the grasp of the pokemon. Or that was the goal, until the pokemon mistakenly touched the black as night hair that was Jason's causing him to reflexively, his practice with fleeing and from his training from MMA giving him the ability to do so, grab onto what was behind him and slam it into the ground in front of him. The nine pound pokemon went flying through the air before its back hit the ground hard, but she wasn't the only one to succumb to damage, her sharp claws having slashed through Jason's knuckles, blood pouring from the wounds. Grimacing, Jason considered what to do. He didn't have any pokemon on him, and with his hands bleeding, more pokemon were sure to come. Especially here in Lunar Park, what with all the ghost types, they would surely be attracted to the crimson liquid and be on him quicker than one can say Ditto.
Or, at the very least, Jason had thought he had no pokemon on him. Bursting forth from a pokeball he didn't know he had, Chip the Pichu came out, cheeks practically showering the area around him in sparks. The electrical rodent was pissed, his trainer had been attacked and his trainer hadn't called him out, although he couldn't really be that mad about the ladder. Sebastian, Jason's Dusclops, always made sure to sneak a pokeball into the man's clothes before he left their small home for the day. While it would infuriate the human, the ghost pokemon knew it was best, and had a few of Jason's older pokemon take turns going on duty with him. Today happened to be Chip's turn.
Jason just watched as his Pikachu stared down the Meowth, ready to attack at Jason's command. He hadn't commanded a pokemon in battle for nearly a year and, in all honesty, didn't feel like he was ready to. With a parched mouth and bloody hands, he called out, "Sh-shock and clock!" It was an old technique they had worked on before... Well, before the accident. Releasing a wave of electrical energy from his body, Chip prepped himself for a deadly attack. The wave of electricity washed over the Meowth's body, paralyzing it, and before the other pokemon attacked, was luckily able to get out an alluring wink to him. Chip looked at the pokemon oddly for a second, before charging at it, his body surrounded in blue, white, and yellow electricity. Paralyzed and unable to move, the attack hit, and the smell of burnt fur could be smelled as an explosion of light came forth from the collision.
"Heal." Jason said tentatively to Chip, the pokemon obeying and launching a sphere of energy into the air above him. Approaching the Meowth, Jason did something he hadn't done in a very long time. He attempted to capture it. There had been a pokeball laying by the bench earlier, and the dark haired man had picked it up with intentions to sell it back to the Pokemart, but now he found a new use for it.

For the first time in about two years, Jason watched and waited as the pokeball rocked back and forth, the struggle of the feline pokemon inside obvious. The capture device stopped wiggling and flashed white for a brief moment, before dining to signal a successful capture. Jason just stared at the red and white sphere in awe, his electrical ally looking up at his trainer with worry. Chip would have to tell Sebastian about this, because neither of them had thought Jason ready for a new teammate or capable of training one for the matter. Unless, of course, Jason just left the pokeball there. While it would be cruel and unmoral, the Pikachu wouldn't hold it against him. The blond in disguise definitely wouldn't able to train that Meowth and it would have ended up trapped in its pokeball for years, gathering dust and probably dying inside. At least out here, someone might find it and release it or step on the container, ending its suffering early.
To the Pikachu's surprise, Jason picked up the pokeball with both hands, and cupped it, staring at the injured pokemon inside. Blood ran down Jason's arm, from the wounds he had suffered from earlier, and dripped into a small crimson puddle. The dark haired man didn't notice, though, as he was enthralled by the ball held in his hands. Nor did he notice the purple flame that was ever so slowly making its way towards him.
It was a well known fact that Litwick enjoyed a few things, all at the expense of Humans and other living creatures. First off, they loved pulling pranks on people and causing them misery. In of itself, that wasn't uncommon, as most ghost type pokemon were pranksters in one form of another. Where it differed for Litwick and their evolutionary line, is that they fed on the life force, or soul, of the people they tricked. Either by leading them to the underworld and trapping them there or just draining them of their life force with their mystic flame. So when there was a puddle of pure life essence, it was no mystery that the small candle pokemon appeared. She was quite surprised other of her ghastly brethren hadn't appeared, but she wasn't going to let them snag that delicious meal.
That was the plan at least, yet, when she was suddenly zapped with a bolt of electricity, the Litwick looked up in shock pls forgive me for that. She hadn't seen the yellow pokemon there, and as she inched forward, she hadn't realized how pissed it was. Digging underground, the pokemon disappeared from view, only to appear a few moments later, digging underneath her and slamming into her body with an incredible force. The commotion was enough to break Jason from his zoning out, and he nearly dropped the pokeball, catching it just before it hit the ground. He minimized the ball and stored it in his pocket and looked over to see what exactly was going on, and was quite worried at what he saw. Some pokemon, a Litwick he guessed at the purple flame, had managed to confuse Chip and he was whacking imaginary enemies with his tail as the ghost pokemon shot rays of ghastly energy at him.
The fugitive was about to say something when he saw that a ball of white light was hurling itself towards Chip, and he was instantly revitalized. Annoyed at the pokemon, he let loose another blast of electricity before looking back to Jason. "Well done, Chip." Jason said, patting the Pikachu. When he lifted his hand from the pokemon, however, he saw a blood stained hand print on the electric pokemon's yellow fur. He cursed to himself and began to make his way towards the side of the park that would let him out nearest his apartment. Jason needed to get home, or at the very least out of the park, with his hand bleeding the way it was. Whistling for Chip to follow, the dark haired man began to walk away from the now flame less candle, trying to exit without anymore trouble.

Chip hopped by Jason's side, bouncing with all the energy that had been stored inside for who knows how long. Yes he had just relieved himself with the small skirmishes that had just occurred, but the small electric mouse pokemon was ready to fight some more. He looked to Jason, smiling, but wasn't all too happy with what he saw. The dark haired man was struggling to get along, the blood he had lost from his hand taking a toll even as more continued to bleed from it. Of course he would continue walking, however, seeing as if he stopped in the Lunar Park he wouldn't ever get to see the light of day. Continuing forward towards home, the duo of injured man and hyper pokemon made pretty good time given the former's status. Up until he practically ran into a wall of psychic energy.
Jason bounced off of it harmlessly, but it still stunned him to see it, and he looked around for the source of the energy wall. The blue eyed boy was all too aware that his hand was bleeding and it was most likely attracting more pokemon to their location the longer they hung around, but he couldn't get by with the damned wall in the way. "Blast it!" Jason yelled to Chip, hoping the extra energy he had would break through the barrier. Unfortunately, the bolt of lightning that came forth from the Pikachu's cheeks went flying off in another direction, illuminating the area temporarily. That was when Jason saw it, the fiend behind their obstacle; A Solosis.
Pointing with his good hand at the psychic blob of goo, Jason ordered, "Spark and run!" Chip complied with his trainer's commands, and went bounding forward, surrounded in white hot electricity. The attack hit and for a second time the field was filled with light and Jason covered his eyes to keep himself from being blinded. Not surprisingly, the blond in disguise had forgotten about his bloodied hand and he now had blood smeared on his forehead. Ignoring the discomfort and unsettling action, he looked around for the cell like pokemon knowing it hadn't been able to get too far. As he searched, the barrier from before began to disintegrate into nothingness, leaving the path free to walk. But Jason wanted to find that pokemon, and more importantly, his own. It didn't take too long, however, because a blast of electricity let Jason know where Chip was, and in turn, the Solosis. The blob of goo was laying on the ground with the Pikachu standing over it victoriously. The dark haired man didn't really know what to say, and instead just dropped a pokeball on the downed pokemon in an attempt to catch it.

The pokeball stopped moving as it successfully completed its purpose of capturing the psychic pokemon. Jason bent down and tried to pick the pokeball up, but was distracted by the pain in his hand, and accidentally kicked it a few yards away into a bush. Tired and injured, he called out to Chip, saying, "Go get it for me, bud." Chip leaped with joy at the chance to help Jason out, still as energetic as ever, and bounded into the bush and put his mouth around what he assumed to be the pokeball. Oh how wrong he was. The apparent pokemon's body began to glow with a metallic sheen and it rolled in the Pikachu's mouth, grinding against his teeth. Yelping in pain, Chip backed off and readied himself to attack.
His trainer, on the other hand, had been waiting for Chip patiently while he slowly bled to death from his hand. Nothing out of the ordinary for the fugitive. Jason did began to worry when Chip took longer than thirty seconds, and knew something was wrong at the yelp. Avoiding the pool of blood, Jason went towards the bush to figure out what was going on. And was sorely disappointed at what he saw.
"Dig!" Jason ordered, and Chip followed, burrowing into the ground like the mouse he was. The Voltorb, however, looked pissed and was ready to attack Jason until Chip bursted forth from the ground and knocked the pokeball wannabe out. He also happened to find the pokeball Jason had been looking for earlier. Exhausted from the physical and emotional shit storm that just happened, Jason whistled for Chip to follow, and made his way home and towards safety.
