Boy, if she had been excited before, now she was thrilled - deeply thrilled, and that was an understatement. She had found a Keystone, out of all things, something she confirmed with some research once she had gotten home. That meant she was only missing the Mega Stones, which were much easier to find, and she would be set for Mega Evolution. For a bit, she had thrown herself into books that she could get through some connections of the League. She wasn't that big of a reader - she preferred training to reading - but she found that the two discovered Mega Evolutions that she could use were for Abomasnow. If Trundle and Maokai could Mega Evolve, that would change the course of a lot of Gym Battles. She just needed to find those stones!
She was normally much more calm about things, so she was very surprised with herself when she found herself promptly on the next day at the cave's entrance, ready to dig deep into those ruins again. They were much deeper than she thought before - the Vanillite at her side was ready - it knew that the Pokemon of the area were prone to attacking, so it was prepared. Madeline hummed to herself a fun melody as she began to trek inside, the familiar flora and patterns flourishing around her and Vladimir.
"Now, Vladimir, are you ready to find some Mega Stones?"
She had already made a preliminary report to the League’s archeology department about this ruin, its contained factors, and so on – it, however, had been brushed to the side. She apparently wasn’t a credible enough source. She had almost marched all the way to the League HQ and Blizzard-ed those people in the face. Just because she was Co-Leader, they didn’t have the right to treat her that way. Oh, she was going to show them – all that she needed to do was find more Keystones or Mega Stones until this place’s archeological value is undeniable. At some point, they’d have to listen to her, Co-Leader or not – hell, it wouldn’t have mattered if she was a Champion or a Beginner Trainer. She was the Snow Queen, and they’d learn to listen to their royals.
It didn’t take long for Madeline to find something – a Thunderstone, she quickly recognized. Nothing that she desired, but it was still a valuable find – elemental stones were not found just anywhere. But as quickly as she began passing by the thunderstone, leaving it be where she found it, she heard a high-pitched cry and the ruffle of wings – another Flying-Type?! She had only found Pokemon weak to Ice-Type moves as of late – not that she minded, but it made for simple battles. By the time the wild Pokemon showed up, Vladimir had already jumped out of Madeline’s arms, calling down a Hail to fill the area.
The Pidgey did not seem happy at all to have them here – it flapped its wings with as much might as it could, bringing forth wind that whipped against Madeline and Vladimir, moving the cold falling snow against them. Tailwind, she quickly recognized – it would not be helpful for them if this wind stayed – she had to finish the fight fast. ”Vladimir, you know what to do – Blizzard until it’s down!”
The Pidgey moved first, trying to whip at the Fresh Snow Pokemon with a Twister attack, but Vladimir replied with a gusting Blizzard, the Ice-Type attack overpowering the not-so-strong Dragon-Type move. The Pidgey was sent back, smashed by the snow and ice from the Blizzard attack. Vladimir kept the attack going, bellowing out Blizzard after Blizzard, made accurate by the falling Hail. The base-level Pokemon could not hold on against such strong, high power and super-effective moves, and quickly the Pidgey fell, fainted by the attacks.
Madeline quickly gathered Vladimir again, watching the snow and ice fall around the area, now with their opponent defeated. With a quick step, the Ice-Type specialist brisk-ed onward, searching deeper down.
Training was going well, she thought. She just needed to keep going with this tempo – and hopefully find Pokemon that weren’t weak to the Ice-Type. It made for far too easy defeats. All she needed was a challenge, or, in all truth, a reason to leave the ruins. Last time, it had been that Keystone. She could easily find another Mega Stone and leave. She had a few in mind that she wanted to find. Abomasite and Glailite were her top priorities, but she also had some friends who she knew would either pay a pretty penny or simply accept the gift delightfully. A queen needed to be benevolent to her subjects, and in the case of the “subject” she was thinking about, the more she could help her out, the better. That ship would sail, or her name wasn’t Madelin-
Flanoir?
That glint – she recognized the shape of the stone and the style of it near-immediately. But what kind of Mega Stone was this? She had never seen these colors before, and she had only really acquainted herself with the two stones that she needed for her team. This was a find, surely, but was it worth taking it home, when she had such little space to carry things alrea-
”BURMY, BURM!” A voice yelled out in the corridor, giving Madeline very little to look up. A glowing orb was flying her way, ready to smash against her. Both she and Vladimir jumped to the side, barely dodging the blast. The culprit was a Burmy, who hung from the ceiling. Madeline was already expecting Vladimir to fill the room with Hail, the weather move dropping the temperature by a few degrees. ”Vladimir, let’s show this whelp how we do things – do your thing!” She commanded.
And with a deep breath, the Fresh Snow Pokemon unleashed yet another Blizzard. The Ice-Type attack enveloped its target, shaking it violently from its perch. Ice and snow smashed against the Burmy. The Bug-Type attempted to reply by gathering energy, and firing a ball of condensed power at the Vanillite. Madeline attempted to command a dodge, but the Hidden Power found its mark – the ball exploded, and from it fire spouted. Was the typing to the Hidden Power Fire?! If so, Vladimir just took a serious hit!
”Vladimir, hold on! Let’s be more careful – Blizzard again, go!” Once again, the Ice-Type began pouring out a mighty blizzard against its opponent. Slowly, but surely, the damage done by the Hidden Power was being healed, thanks to Vladimir’s Ice Body Ability. Burmy tried to fire another Hidden Power, but this time Vladimir was ready – with a jump, the Ice-Type dodged the attack, only to reply with another Blizzard. Not being able to withstand such strong Ice-Type attacks, the Burmy fell, fainted.
Madeline had an idea – with a smile, she began to pocket the Pinsirite, and pulled out an empty Poke Ball, throwing it at the fainted Burmy. ”Very good job, Vladimir. Very good job indeed!” .
