And here she was, back again. After that whole fiasco with the Mega Stone. So, get this, she got home after picking up the stone and found out it was Audinite - while valuable and certainly a wonderful find, not anything that she wanted, so she put up an ad selling the stone. Not an hour later did she get an e-mail of someone saying they wanted it as a gift to a friend, and thus gave her a giant sum of money for it. It reminded her of that Rosenbach fellow. Needless to say, she was shocked - she had never had such a large amount of money in her bank account before, and all for that little Mega Stone.
What could she make if she found something even more valuable?
It wasn't really about the money, though, it was half-training, half-duty. The Pokemon she had found in the forest were very good for her Pokemon to train against, though soon she might want a higher level of challenge. Still, these Pokemon did the job. And she still had to investigate the rest of those ruins, clear them out. She didn't yet know how deep they went, but they couldn't be that big? They went down, sure, but there's only s far one can go down into the ground...
And so she hummed again, with a much more confident Vanillite in her arms. Vladimir was happy he could win a battle, and after practicing a little against Lissandra, he thought he stood a pretty good chance. Madeline felt a certain excitement as the Pokemon in her arms looked at the place where they had last time. Looking around, the realized they had barely but entered the ruins. What could lie before them, how deep did it go?
"Vladimir, are you as excited as I am?" Asked Madeline suddenly. This was certainly not a normal feeling for her, but boy she liked it.
Dig Dig Dig . . . What's this?! Congratulations, You've found a RELIC STATUE! A stone figure made in a civilization about 3,000 years ago. A maniac will buy it for a high price.
She was on her toes this time - she expected the Pokemon that she might find within these ruins to be somewhat territorial, if such a gentle species like Swablu would outright attack her. Still, she had high expectations - Vladimir's training was going well, and the typing should be in their favor - forests rarely held any Fire-Types or Rock-Types, though they might be here. This place was very ancient - she found a Mega Stone, and a broken statuette lay nearby some structure. With Vladimir in her arms, the Gym Leader attempted to delve deeper, following an ancient set of stairs downward. She was about to head down to the next floor when she felt a powerful force hit her right in the stomach.
"Oof! She exclaimed, falling onto the steps, looking for the source of the sound. It wasn't far - a HootHoot, whose eyes glowed with a blue tint - it might have used some telekinetic psychic move to attack her. Well, if it was a fight it wanted, it was a fight it was going to get. Standing back up, she let Vladimir take the lead - the Fresh Snow Pokemon, what with the confidence surge it was going through, was ready. Without the fight even beginning, it raised its voice to the skies and brought down snow and ice, Hail already filling the area. Madeline approved of her Pokemon's decisions - it knew that it fought best in the snow, and so it called it forth.
The HootHoot's eyes shimmered with blue, and a barrier appeared between it and Vladimir. Was it... Light Screen? Only one way to find out. "Vladimir, it's payback time - show that bird the might of a Gym Leader's Pokemon! Blizzard, go!" Madeline commanded. With a deep breath, the Ice-Type unleashed a howling storm from its mouth, the size of it filling the area with the power of the Hail. The barrier, however, did nothing to stop the incoming attack - so it was Reflect, not Light Screen! The HootHoot was forced back harshly as it was faced with the super-effective attack, and tried to counteract it by releasing a telekinetic blast. The shockwave flew at Vladimir, smashing intot he Ice-Type, the Confusion attack not successfully confounding the Ice-Type, but still dealing damage.
Not that it mattered much - the hurt that was dealt by the Psychic attack was slowly being regenerated by the Vanillite's ability, Ice Body. "Here comes another confusion - block it with Mirror Shot, and then finish it with another Blizzard!" Ordered Madeline. Seeing the incoming attack, the Vanillite gathered the glinting light energy which surrounded it into a ball, and fired it, smashing it against the Confusion attack. Both attacks collided, but the Vanillite quickly followed it up with a Blizzard attack, the super effective Ice-Type move smashing against the Flying-Type. With a struggle to stay up, the HootHoot managed to keep its eyes open for a few minutes, before fainting, finally finishing its hop.
Madeline quickly brought Vladimir back into her arms, praising it duly. She wondered, for a second, if it was safe to continue - the Pokemon attacked her directly. But she brushed the thought aside. "That'll show them to mess with us, eh, Vlad?"
The stairs led down for a few landings, encased in some form of corridor-like falling as she and Vladimir looked around - the detail carved into the stone was quite interesting indeed, nothing she had ever seen before - maybe, after she was done, she'd need to call the League's archeologists to see if this discovery was of any merit. Of course, this would have to be done after she cleared out most of it. She thought, for a second, that it wouldn't be too difficult, but then she reached the last landing, about 3 floors down. Both Pokemon and Gym Leader gasped in surprise.
The room before them was large, dome-like, but empty. Almost like some sort of ancient arena. The rock around the walls was smooth by time, but she could tell that time had worn out many a carving and pattern that the wall once held. Plants had reached this place too, and flora shone out with striking colors, brilliantly painting the walls where there had been patterns before. At that moment, the Snow Queen of the League realized that this discovery was much larger than she previously thought. Walking aimlessly, she tripped, her Pokemon jumping out of her arms in time, trying to help her up.
And in front of her unborrowed a Nincada, obviously angry at her. With a flurry, she retreated, before the Pokemon could harm her. She could see it was guarding something, the way it stood defensively - there was a box behind the Bug-Type. But first, to deal with the threat. "Quick, Vlad, Hail, and Blizzard!" Without delay, the Fresh Snow Pokemon performed its practiced strategy, calling out its species' name and then taking a deep breath, letting out with the breath a howling blizzard, as the snow and ice fell from the sky. The Bug-Type was sent flying back, unable to resist the powerful attack. Scrambling to get back up, the Nincada's eyes glowed with a strange color, before it jumped straight at Vladimir.
"Dodge!" the Gym Leader attempted to command, but the Nincada somehow saw that coming, and changed its path to land onto the Fresh Snow Pokemon, digging fangs into it as it tried to suck some energy out. It must have used Mind Reader. The attack dealt some damage, but not without Madeline's second command. "Blizzard, point blank, and keep going until its out for the count!" And so the Ice-Type did, breathing out an incredible flurry of snow and ice, sending the Bug-Type reeling. Once again, the super-effective attack smashed against the target, and without much of a struggle, the Nincada fell, fainted from the continuous Blizzard.
Madeline clapped cheerfully for her Pokemon, picking Vladimir up once again before approaching the box-like capsule which the Nincada seemed to be guarding. Opening the lid, she looked inside to see a single stone. That coloring... No way... A wide smile painted the Gym Leader's face as she quickly pocketed the stone, running back out of the ruins. The Ice-Type in her arms made a questioning sound.
"I think we might have hit the jackpot, Vladimir, but I need to check if we did! Let's go!"
